Wednesday Ketchup-Catsup-Catch-Up and a CONTEST

This is a Ketchup Catsup Catch-up day on the blog, as there are miscellaneous things I wanted to touch base on today. First of all, we have prizes to award:

1. For Loopy’s Spring Challenge, we used the Random Number Generator to pick two winners from all participants. Meredith in MA and Kristine in CO each won a $25 Loopy Ewe Gift Certificate!

2. For the blog contest about great knitting books for your library, we are sending Light and Layered Knits to Marla in CA, Up, Down, All-Around Stitch Dictionary to Stephanie in CO, The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet Volume One to Jane in KS, and The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet Volume Two to Lindsay in PA. (Remember, if you’d like a good deal on Hunter’s patterns or ebooks, you have until this Friday to pick one out because of the special offer she set up for us! See our Designer Spotlight blog post with Hunter for details.)

Summer-Love-Wrap-The-Loopy-Ewe3. Camp Loopy – how are your first projects coming along? I really like my Summer Love Wrap, done in Universal’s Cotton Supreme. I made a sweater out of this same color once, but it was too big (and darned if that yarn does.not.shrink no matter how many times you wash it and send it through a hot dryer). I had to give it away. So I’m glad to have something else done up in this beautiful Aqua color.

Pogona-The-Loopy-Ewe4. Also regarding Camp Loopy – this Glamping on Loopy Lake colorway is one of my most favorites ever. Next, I want a sweater out of it. (Click on the photo to see how the deep lake navy and the deep woods green play together). I also saved enough skeins of the February color for a sweater. And I think the March Celebrations color would be the greatest color in the world for a t-shirt and jeans sweater. Of course Jack is Back would be a beautiful neutral sweater for blacks and browns. I also set aside a skein of it to make myself Jack Socks.

5. I had to search on Ravelry to see if there were any cute Jack Sock patterns. Maybe Jack Thermal. I did find this adorable Jack-O-Lantern, which has nothing to do with the Jack is Back colorway. But isn’t he fun? I love Alan Dart patterns.

SONY DSC6. I ran across the best shortcut for making s’mores, ever.

7. For those of you who email often to ask how Mocha-the-outdoor-cat is doing these days, here’s a photo from this past weekend. He still belongs to our backyard neighbors, but he spends several days a week sleeping the day away on our back deck, and popping over a few times in the evenings as he takes his neighborhood stroll. I’m pretty sure they have no idea he spends half his life at our house. We’re happy to have him around. Since that post in the link above from 12/11, not only do we put food and water out for him, but we give him a daily brushing and he loves to be picked up. Do you think that might be why he hangs around?? 🙂

Burger8. Back to ketchup – I had homemade (restaurant-made) ketchup in Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant in Las Vegas last fall, when I was there for a yarn industry meeting. (Look – here’s a blurry picture of Beth from Lorna’s Laces, but at least you can see the amazing fries and homemade ketchup on our table.) It was the best ketchup ever. Want to try your hand at homemade Ketchup? Here’s a link that I found on Pinterest. Or this one looks good, too.

9. Or how about Ketchup cookies?  (Um, no.)

Mrs-Crosby2-The-Loopy-Ewe10. What’s your favorite thing to put ketchup on? And how do you prefer to spell it: Catsup or Ketchup?

Leave a comment below and we’ll pick a winner for this fun giftbag from Mrs. Crosby! It contains a skein of Steamer Trunk in Sunset Regatta, a skein of Carpet Bag in Hot Pimiento, a bar of Rosemary Mint Soap, a cute knitting card, and a pattern for Bettie’s Bell hat, which uses either a skein of Steamer Trunk or Carpet Bag. So you could make two hats – one for yourself and one for a friend. We’ll announce the winner in next Wednesday’s blog!

  1. I spell it Ketchup usually. Fries and meatloaf are the only things that I use it on. I am glad that Mocha is still around and that he has a place to come for affection and brushing.

  2. I haven’t ever tried homemade ketchup before although I’ve thought about it. Do you know how long it keeps in the refrigerator?

  3. Definitely ketchup over here. I like it on chips (fries), or on burgers, mixed with mayonnaise. For everything else though, it’s HP sauce (but that may just be a UK thing).

  4. Love the whole Mrs. Crosby line. Would love to win this prize! Love the June celebration color, too. Mine is already on its way to me.

  5. I have tried to make my own ketchup, but it wasn’t very good. About the only things I put ketchup on are meatloaf and french fries.

  6. I love to mix ketchup with hot sauce and horseradish as a dip for raw oysters or fried seafood. The only thing I put unadulterated ketchup on is tater tots. (I eat my fries with mayo!)

  7. I’ve always seen and heard it pronounced ketchup. My favorite thing to put ketchup on would have to be french fries. There’s just something satisfying about that flavor combination.

  8. Ketchup. The other is like dinner for kitty…cat sup! I like ketchup on French fries!!! Yum!

  9. I spell it ketchup. I really like the salty/potato taste of good fries, but I will eat a little ketchup on them. I like ketchup on fried fish, meatloaf and burgers. And, from when I was a very small child and thought hushpuppies were some kind of fried fish, I like to dip my hushpuppies in ketchup (but I’ll only do that at home).

  10. My favorite thing to put ketchup on is macaroni and cheese.
When I told that to a class of kindergarteners, they said, “Yuck!” I like to spell it with a K. Ketchup.
I was a lucky winner in the book blog contest. Maybe I’ll be lucky agIn

  11. I say ketchup, and I use it to dip fries in, and on burgers and hot dogs. This looks like an awesome gift to win!

  12. I spell it ketchup! I love just putting it on a good cheeseburger. Or macaroni and cheese! Odd, but a new favorite of mine.

  13. Ketchup for sure. Ballpark hotdogs is my favorite use foe lot and lots of ketchup. 🙂

  14. I spell it Heinz it the brand I only use.plus I love the upside down bottle. Not just for fries. Mix it with a jar of grape jelly and add sliced hotdogs. Heat, stir a couple of times and its ready to eat. Yummy!

  15. Did you know you can make smores over an old coil-style electric range? You take a carving fork (big with two tines) spear a couple of full-size marshmallows, and toast them over the coil heated red hot. Huge waste of energy, but we used to do this when I was a kid living at home.

And we used to add ketchup to chicken broth.

  16. I love ketchup on onion rings. I have made homemade ketchup from a Jamie Oliver recipe with tomatoes from my garden and it was fantastic. Worth the time it takes!

  17. I spell it “Ketchup” and I have to be boring and say that my favorite thing to have it with is french fries. Now I’m getting a craving…

  18. I pronounce it catch up. I spell it catsup. I only eat it on hamburgers, but I use it in my meatloaf recipe. The yarn looks beautiful.

  19. Ketchup on hamburgers, hotdogs, and bratwurst. All need yellow mustard too BTW. Ketchup on french fries and oven roasted potato wedges.

Grew up with mom spelling it catsup, but I spell it as ketchup.

    Love, love, love the yarn!!

  20. Ketchup is wonderful on fries, though I do know people who love it on scrambled eggs. I had a friend who made ketchup every August over an outdoor fire pit in a big kettle. It was yummy. Anyone notice how ketchup tastes different in Canada.
Wow, a chance to win Mrs. Crosby, thank you so much.

  21. Glad you are catching up with ketchup on top! Love that Jack is Back colorway too! This season of 24 is great fun!

  22. Ketchup is how I prefer to spell the word. As for what I like to put ketchup on, tostones (fried green plantains). I usually chop up a bit of garlic and sauté it, then add it to the ketchup with hot sauce. Talk about tasty! I do the same for homemade fries.

  23. I only put ketchup on hamburgers, but I use it in my calico bean hotdish.

Glamping on Lake Loopy is beautiful yarn! I may use it for my August Challenge.

Happy Glamping, folks! I just finished my June project and it is on the blocking boards at this moment. It is my first project using beads!

  24. I say catsup and my kids all make fun of me. Oh, well. They know what I mean.
Catsup on a bologna sandwich with potato chips. Yummy
