Living in Colorado (and a Contest!)

It seems like at least once a week, someone will ask me how we like living in Colorado. As many of you might remember, we lived in St. Louis for a long time (27 years) and moved to Colorado just over two years ago. Why? Because we had vacationed in Colorado forever and decided that instead of spending 2 wonderful weeks a year out here, we should be spending all of the year out here! So we up and moved our household and The Loopy Ewe, and landed in Fort Collins. We love living here. I drive home from work, looking at the mountains, and being so grateful that we get to live here. Fall is just one of the many reasons we love it here. Aren’t the colors gorgeous? (Photos by my husband the photographer. Click to make bigger! One of the many reasons he likes it out here? Great subject matter for his photography business and a great art gallery in Fort Collins Old Town that sells his photos!)

  1. I love living where I always have. Just wish it were a little closer to the ocean. But, if I have to choose, home is where my niece and her family is!

    Awesome photos!

  2. I live close to where I want to be, but not close enough. I live in Eugene, Oregon now, but would love to live on the Oregon coast – anywhere between Yachats and Pacific City with a view of the ocean a must. Someday!

  3. What beautiful photos! Autumn is my favorite time of year and he has done such wonderful job of catching that I feel like I can smell that crisp Autumn air coming out of his pictures!
I live right outside of DC and I love where I live. I’m close enough to the mountains or the beach to easily enjoy either one on the weekends. I have tons of choices of parks to hike in and also have lots of museums and theaters to pick for entertainments. There are so many beautiful places to travel to in the US and 3 airports here to get me to them and that makes my location perfect!

  4. I live in Northeast Ohio and think it’s great! I really love the change of seasons. If I was to live somewhere else, I would probably choose San Diego, CA as it was one of my most favorite vacation experiences so far ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I live in yucca valley Ca. Part of the Mojave desert. We have to colors here, brown and sage green, i would love to live somewhere that has more color.
My dream is to move to Nova Scotia ; )

  6. I live on NJ with my husband and children. I was born in Maine and I am quite sure I am still supposed to be there. My heart aches to return.

  7. Up and moved this year and it was a big change. Ohio all of my life to Florida. I’m enjoying all of the differences but fall its one season I will always miss. Would love a beautiful picture to remind me…Johnston4kids on rav

  8. My favorite place in the world is on the beach in Aruba. The ONLY problem is that would be in direct conflict with my knitting addiction. No I can’t knit with cotton because it hurts my hands.

  9. I live in central Minnesota, and when we vacation it is either to my favorite place-the North Shore of Minnesota, or to my husband’s-The Black Hills, so that is where we’d move if we could!

  10. i desperately want to go home to seattle. the army has kept us moving around the eastern part of this great country, but there’s something special about the pacific northwest. (beautiful photography, by the way…just gorgeous!)

  11. Live in Sacramento Ca.Used to live in Broomfield co.Miss the state and all the scenery.I come back often to visit DD and grands.Still need to make it to loopy.

  12. That is such a tough question. My husband asks me frequently where I would like to live when we retire and I have no clue. Originally from St. Louis and really like going home, just visited Ft. Collins and TLE and like it there, much better than the Boulder area, spent a week in Big Sky, Montana and that is a beautful place too, Have lived in many other states and they all have their good and bad things but I do know one thing there must be a good yarn store if for no other reason than to talk yarn and knitting with my fellow yarnies.

  13. I’m living in my favorite place (lucky me!) And that would be northern Idaho – we’re almost neighbors. The only disadvantage is no nearby yarn shops.

  14. I was born and raised in Wisconsin.I have lived here almost my whole life (6 months in Indiana), have traveled many places, and still love coming home to Wisconsin. I have many places that I’d still like to visit, but love living here. The only other place I would consider living in is the Black Forest region of Germany. (and not just because is close to the Wollmeise!)

  15. I am in Albuquerque and I want out!! My destination is the deep south. I love the humidity and the sunshine and the heat. Cold is not my cup of tea nor is this dry desert either. Actually, the desert gets mighty cold in the winter (most people don’t realize that). I’m heading south east real, real soon.

  16. Not exactly sure where my dream locale would be, but probably not where we live now in central Ohio. Sure we have beautiful fall and spring weather, but it’s usually way too short with extreme heat and humidity or cold and snow thrown in for excitment.

We have a place in suburban Las Vegas and the desert winter, spring and fall there are nice, but the summers are sizzling. There is an alpine area near there, Mt. Charleston. It’s really a nice summer escape.

I also love the Rockies, northern California, and coastal North Carolina. Since my children appear to be settling in scattered areas of the country, I actually look forward to being able to spend time visiting them in their homes.

  17. We moved to Colorado in 2008 and have no plans to leave. That said, I have a farmhouse dream that has yet to be sated, so we’re in the right state, but not quite the perfect place…

  18. I’m a native Californian who still lives here and I would never live anywhere else. Love the mild weather (hate the cold!). I’ve traveled throughout the US and Europe and have never found another place I’d settle -although I still like to visit new spots. I only wish I had a second home in Tahoe.

  19. Been in Florida for 36 years after being raised in St. Louis. I think if I could live in my favorite place it would be somewhere near the mountains and definitely with 4 real seasons! I so miss the fall colors and crispness in the air!

  20. I live on Bainbridge Island, WA and I wouldn’t leave for anything. The community, the natural beauty and wildlife, the temperate climate and the local artisans make this my very favorite place. If I couldn’t live on Bainbridge, I would live in Berlin. It’s pretty much the opposite of my small town environment, but I love it so.

  21. Such beautiful photos! We’ve lived in South Carolina for the last four years, and I think we’d both like to move. I’m from the midwest and my husband is from the northeast, which means that I think we both have different preferences about where we’d like to end up.

  22. I am living in a good place now but I would also like to live on the shores of Georgian Bay and Newfoundland at some point!

  23. I live in West Michigan, which is gorgeous for 6 months out of the year and I wouldn’t live anywhere else. For the other 6 months though, I’d love to live somewhere that has less of a winter – the cold, snow and constant cloud cover during the winters here really take a toll on my mood and motivation.

  24. I was born and raised in Minnesota and I have also lived in Chicago and Seattle. It seems like whatever state (or country) I visit, I say, “I could live here.” There are so many beautiful places in this world. The best place is with family and my children and grandchildren are scattered around the country so I have beautiful places to live. I think I would like to have an RV and just keep going from place to place (and yarn shop to yarn shop). The pictures your husband takes are gorgeous. I could live there!

  25. Sheri,
Your husband’s photos are gorgeous! I live in Washington DC metro area and I like it, but whenever I’m in an airport or driving on a highway, I always want to see what living elsewhere would be like! Right now, Paris is at the top of the list and when it gets cold here, Florida is going to be at the top of the list.

  26. I live in Minnesota now, and it’s nice, but I lived for 17 years in Southcentral Alaska and I really miss it. It’s gorgeous! Your photos of CO are beautiful. Thanks

  27. Wyoming! Lived here for 6 years after traveling with husband for the Navy. WY is the best (and close enough to Ft. Collins for me to visit my sister – and the Loopy Ewe!)

  28. I just moved to Fort Collins in July, after living in Atlanta most of my life. And I gotta say, I love the change. For one, no humidity! Plus beautiful mountains, lots of community events, and fantastic weather. ๐Ÿ™‚ Oh, and The Loopy Ewe is my LYS. Can it get any better than that??

  29. Chicago was my home from the moment I landed here 30 years ago. I grew up in Omaha, which is a nice place, but Chicago has my heart. Now, if money (and citizenship rules) were no object, I would have a flat in London and a place on the water in Vancouver as well. I love the mountains, but not being able to breathe up there stinks. I seem to operate best at low altitudes. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  30. We have a summer cottage on a lake in Ontario, so I am able to spend summers and early Falls’ there. It is the most beautiful place on earth. So quite and woodsy. And the lake is so cool and clear. When the leaves fall in autumn it looks just like your husbands pictures.

  31. My DH and I live in North Florida about 50 miles from the Georgia line. I love it here. Very mild winters and long summers. I can grow veggies all year long. And flowers bloom all year too. Magnolia trees are plentiful as are dogwoods. Locally grown peaches and pecans are plentiful and grapefruit grow here too. We do have changing leaves in late November. The only thing we lack are mountains… but I do have the oceans within 70 miles east or west.

Your aspen photos are breathtakingly beautiful.

  32. The third photo from the top reminds me of Robert Frost’s poem, The Road Less Traveled. I Love It!!!

A for where I would like to live…. I think I should explore the states that southerly to me until I find one that doesn’t require snow-shoveling in the winter!,

  33. I am blessed to have grown up in Colorado and in all my travels the only place I would move to is Wyoming. Living on the eastern plains and looking at the majestic mountains to the west everyday is my idea of perfect.

  34. Upstate NY has too much snow some winters, and too much heat some summers, but both are always followed by spectacular springs and autumns…….which is why we still make our home here!

  35. I live in Louisiana, and here it is ABSOLUTELY FLAT! I grew up in SE Iowa, and they have great river bluffs. But, give me Colorado and I could be a very happy gal. I would need to knit a lot more there, too. ๐Ÿ™‚

  36. Those photos are amazing!

I am not currently living in my favorite place. My favorite place might be Ithaca, NY… perhaps just college nostalgia but I really loved living there.

  37. Beautiful pictures!! We just returned from Ireland, where we saw my family. If I could live anywhere, it would be there among the sheep that I love so much!

  38. If I were to move, I would love to live somewhere in northern New Mexico. I love the desert and mountains. Colorado is close second. I can knit and spin anywhere and I love cooler/cold weather to wear my knits.

  39. I am torn between Seattle and Wisconsin’s Northwoods, particularly in autumn. Those are lovely photos. I would love to win one for my house!

  40. It’s wonderful that you are living where you want to. Not everyone gets that option. Husband is stationed at fort riley right now. i’d prefer to be living in Michigan. Right on the lake. It’s gorgeous there.
