That’s a pretty good combination, isn’t it? First the cashmere show and tell. Elf Roberta knit up this beautiful scarf for her sister-in-law out of Sweet Georgia’s CashSilk Lace in the Summer Skin color. The pattern is Felicia’s CashSilk Fern Lace Scarf, which is free on Ravelry. It uses just one skein. I can tell you, it turns into a beautiful, lightweight luxurious scarf. I think that pattern would also look beautiful done up in fingering weight yarn – something like Madelinetosh Sock or Three Irish Glenhaven Cashmerino Fingering.
We tried a new dessert recipe at our house last week. It’s similar to this one (in a rather anemic looking photo) that I’ve shared with you before, but with the addition of peanut butter. YUM.
1 brownie mix (for 9 x 13 pan) + eggs, oil, water
1 large containter Cool Whip
2 large boxes of instant chocolate pudding
(prepare each box as directed, as you assemble)
1 bag of peanut butter cups, chopped
3/4 cup of smooth peanut butter
1 (8 oz) pck. cream cheese
3/4 cup powdered sugar
Bake the brownies as directed and let cool. When cool, cute them into bite-sized pieces.
Put the cream cheese in a mixing bowl and add the peanut butter and powdered sugar. Beat until well mixed and smooth. Fold in 1 cup of Cool whip.
Assemble the layers:
1/2 of the brownies
1 box of the pudding prepared as directed and not yet set
1 cup of chopped peanut butter cups
peanut butter/cream cheese/Cool Whip mixture (use the whole thing on this layer)
1/2 of the brownies
1 box of the pudding prepared as directed and not yet set
Frost with the rest of the plain Cool Whip
Top with remaining chopped peanut butter cups
Let set for a few hours (or overnight) and enjoy.
It was fun to read all of your comments on last Friday’s blog post. We’re so glad to have you all here with us on our Sixth Anniversary! I used the Random Number Generator to pick a winner from last week’s comments. The skein of Wollmeise Lace goes to Kimberly in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Congratulations, Kim!
We have another contest this week (since it’s our anniversary month, you know). This week’s question: What’s the best book you’ve read or movie you’ve seen this summer? (I’m looking to add to my book and movie lineup as we move into the fall.) Since this is our second contest of the month, we’ll be giving away two prizes – two of our Sixth Anniversary Kits, which will be making their debut next week. Leave your answers in the comments below and we’ll draw the winners next week!

Just watched The Lorax again today.
Books, yeah, need to find more time for those. Have the latest Donna Andrews on my nightstand that I need to start. If you like funny mysteries, check her out.
The Avengers was a fun, fluffy summer movie!
My other favorite hobby is quilting and I have been working my way through
The Elm Creek Quilts series by Jennifer Chiaverini. Really enjoyed each and every one of them. As for movies I finally saw the Blind Side …. I know it’s been around for a while but what a great movie.
Just finished listening to A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin and am ready to listen to the second book in the series A Clash of Kings.
I’m listening to Water for Elephants on my iPod and it is excellent. I would recomment it to anyone.
I loved reading The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach (I’m not much of a baseball person, but it was really good!), and thought the latest Men in Black movie was hilarious.
Hi! I am a newbie here! I have actually been to Ft. Collins and it is o e of the most beautiful places I have ever been. I am just about to start The Shoemakers Wife by Adriana Trigiani. I know I will love it as I have read every book she has written!
The best book I’ve read this summer is The Postmistress by Sarah Blake. A good read set during WWII and thought provoking too!
The only movie I have seen recently is the new Batman movie. I actually liked it more than I thought I would!
This summer I have listened to all of the JD Robb In Death series and have really enjoyed them.
If you’re in the mood for a feel-good foreign film, check out “The Intouchables.” As for books, I finally got around to reading “Look Homeward, Angel,” by Thomas Wolfe, which is an American classic and not a current release. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
My favourite winter (your summer) read has been Scott Westerfeld’s Leviathan trilogy. Steampunky goodness!
I am woefully behind on summer reads. But this summer I read a wonderful book, that I would recommend to anyone.
The Gurnsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, is a enthralling story. I wanted to live with these people and move to the island of Gurnsey because of the story and characters. Usually, when a book is this good, I search out the authors other works and hastily read them too. Unfortunately the author died shortly after this book was published.
Still is a great read and like I said I’d recommend it to everyone and anyone.
Best book was “Shadow of Night” by Deborah Harkness. It’s the second in a trilogy (the third has yest to be written) about a 21st century witch who can time travel. Most of this book took place in Elizabethan England. Great fun!
Even though it’s classified as “young adult”, “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak is amazing. Movies? I was pretty stoked to see the British version of Death at a Funeral is streaming on Netflix.
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was my favorite movie seen this summer. As for books, the latest Catherine Coulter is on my Nook ready to start.
The best I’ve read so far this summer is City of Refuge, by Tom Piazza. I’ve loved reading the comments and getting new ideas for books to read!
Ruby Sparks
Movie:Ruby Sparks
Book:The Uninvited Guests
I am reading The Ragamuffin Gospel by Brendan Manning. It’s amazing. : )
Haven’t watched any movies lately – have been watching the Olympics which where awesome! Books – last one was the latest Stephanie Plum novel – funnly light reading.
Not a new booK and not necessarily the best book I have ever read, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is certainly an eye opener and is well worth reading.
The best book I read was bloom by Kelle Hampton. I just saw the movie Hope Springs and loved it.
I have been reading Night Circus. I like the book so far, sometimes an ending can turn me off, so this is a half recommendation. I enjoyed the Avengers movie.
the best movie I’ve seen this summer has to be Avengers! And I’m not even a fan of super hero movies, I only went because the hubby and kids wanted to see. I was very surprised by how much I liked it =). unfortunately I haven’t had time to read much of anything this summer, but will be looking into some of the books other commenters have mentioned
Best books_ “The Witness” by Nora Roberts and “Folly Beach” by Dorothea Benton Frank
Books? Movies? I must confess last movie we went to see was the one about Julia Child and there has been so much road construction around our local library since Feb, that I haven’t even tried to get there …. I’ve been digesting M’Lou Linsert Baber’s Double Knitting: Reversible Two-Color Designs and actually modified one of them for Camp Loopy #3 project.
I enjoyed reading “The Island” this summer. Not my usual thing, but it was written by a woman from my area so I thought I’d give it a try.
Best movie…hmm, haven’t seen many, but The Avengers tops the list, even though I’m not generally a huge superhero movie fan.
Somewhat thought-provoking YA book read – Hourglass by Myra McEntire.
best book.. I’d have to say Jenny Lawson’s “Let’s Pretend this Never Happened” so funny.. and I’d also recommend the audio version of that book as she reads it and it’s almost like having a crazy friend tell you crazy stories of their life.
as for movies.. the best one I’ve seen recently was Prometheus if you like the Alien series.
My daughter and I saw Moonrise Kingdom this summer as part of our girls night out. I loved that movie, it was quirky but fun.

I’ve been reading “The Mists of Avalon” by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It’s a retelling of the Arthurian legend from the women’s point of view.
Debra Harkness both books are the best reading since the Dragon Tattoo series.
As for the best movie I’m torn between Batman and The Avengers.
