That’s a pretty good combination, isn’t it? First the cashmere show and tell. Elf Roberta knit up this beautiful scarf for her sister-in-law out of Sweet Georgia’s CashSilk Lace in the Summer Skin color. The pattern is Felicia’s CashSilk Fern Lace Scarf, which is free on Ravelry. It uses just one skein. I can tell you, it turns into a beautiful, lightweight luxurious scarf. I think that pattern would also look beautiful done up in fingering weight yarn – something like Madelinetosh Sock or Three Irish Glenhaven Cashmerino Fingering.
We tried a new dessert recipe at our house last week. It’s similar to this one (in a rather anemic looking photo) that I’ve shared with you before, but with the addition of peanut butter. YUM.
1 brownie mix (for 9 x 13 pan) + eggs, oil, water
1 large containter Cool Whip
2 large boxes of instant chocolate pudding
(prepare each box as directed, as you assemble)
1 bag of peanut butter cups, chopped
3/4 cup of smooth peanut butter
1 (8 oz) pck. cream cheese
3/4 cup powdered sugar
Bake the brownies as directed and let cool. When cool, cute them into bite-sized pieces.
Put the cream cheese in a mixing bowl and add the peanut butter and powdered sugar. Beat until well mixed and smooth. Fold in 1 cup of Cool whip.
Assemble the layers:
1/2 of the brownies
1 box of the pudding prepared as directed and not yet set
1 cup of chopped peanut butter cups
peanut butter/cream cheese/Cool Whip mixture (use the whole thing on this layer)
1/2 of the brownies
1 box of the pudding prepared as directed and not yet set
Frost with the rest of the plain Cool Whip
Top with remaining chopped peanut butter cups
Let set for a few hours (or overnight) and enjoy.
It was fun to read all of your comments on last Friday’s blog post. We’re so glad to have you all here with us on our Sixth Anniversary! I used the Random Number Generator to pick a winner from last week’s comments. The skein of Wollmeise Lace goes to Kimberly in Mt. Pleasant, SC. Congratulations, Kim!
We have another contest this week (since it’s our anniversary month, you know). This week’s question: What’s the best book you’ve read or movie you’ve seen this summer? (I’m looking to add to my book and movie lineup as we move into the fall.) Since this is our second contest of the month, we’ll be giving away two prizes – two of our Sixth Anniversary Kits, which will be making their debut next week. Leave your answers in the comments below and we’ll draw the winners next week!

Well this summer my favorite movie that I watched has been Sherlock Holmes 2 with the Avengers a close second behind it.
I unfortunately have only had my nose in textbooks…no good reading there.!
Happy anniversary!
Best book of the summer: Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts
Haven’t seen a single movie yet!
I’ve got two books. The Broke Diaries which is hilarious and Animal Farm which I pick up from time to time, my copy is well-worn.
As far as movies are concerned Dark Knight Rises, The Avengers and The Bourne Legacy. Happy Happy Anniversary!
“Porch Lights” by Dorothea Benton Frank. And another absolute all-time favorite is “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie and Society” by Mary Ann Shaffer.
Well, I’m a huge Bollywood film addict and the only one I’ve seen in the theater this summer is called Cocktail. It was cute and entertaining, if melodramatic (but that’s kind of to be expected) š
I do all my reading by listening to audiobooks while I knit! My favorite this summer is Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness.
I have read one book this summer – Firefly Lane. It was pretty good.
I have been to one movie this summer – The Dark Knight Rises. It was awesome!!! I love Batman. Oh, I guess we went to Avengers early in the summer (not sure if it was really summer) but loved that one, too! My husband is so lucky that I love all those comic book hero movies š
Jane Goodall – a biograpy of the woman who did so much to change the way we think about animals and the environment. She’s truly amazing and inspiring. It’s a fascinating, very well written biography – highly recommended.
Currently reading & loving “The Night Circus”.
Movie: Avengers. But it’s also the only one I’ve seen. š
Book: Sabriel, the first book in the Abhorsen YA series by Garth Nix. Very good, though it’s the only fiction I’ve finished – everything else has been theology or history!
My husband and I don’t get to the movies much, but have rewatched “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou!” at home and we laugh every single time. My reading has been all trashy, cheap, papterback mysteries that I can read as I float in the pool.
I loved Susannah Kearsley’s the Winter Sea- recommended by another Loopy. Loved it! I’m currently listening to Shadow of the Night by Debbie Harkness and after a slow beginning, its getting good.
There were 2 books I really enjoyed – Dorchester Terrace by Anne Perry & My Enemy My Love. The latter knocked me over – I didn’t know there were 19,000 pow’s from Germany & Italy here in Missouri during WW II. Very interesting story!!
I listened to Miss Julia to the Rescue on cd’s. There were parts I laughed out loud!
Movie- Dark Knight Rises. Book- A Dance with Dragons.
Hmmm…I’ve read too many academic papers to count! We’ll go with…the Avengers. Yeah, that one.
I just finished the Outlander series by Diana Gibaldon and absolutely loved it! I can’t wait for the next book. I read all 7 one after another for months. I hated for it to end.
That trifle looks absolutely amazing!!
My favorite movie this summer was probably “Cabin in the Woods” but I also really loved “Moonride Kingdom”
Book-wise, I don’t think I read anything that blew my mind… I’ve read the first two books of the “Song of Ice and Fire Series”, The Hunger Games trilogy, First two Dresden File novels, “The Golden Lily” by Richelle Mead, “Dead Reckoning” by Charlaine Harris, possibly a few more that I’ve forgotten. š
If you like suspense novels, check out Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I couldn’t put it down!
The best movie that I have seen this summer is Brave…took my two little girls to see it, and we all loved it. The best book that I have read is probably A Storm of Swords (the 3rd book in the A Song of Ice and Fire Series)…I have been making my way through all of them and the 3rd made my head spin (in a good way).
Odd Apocalypse by Dean Koontz. Love this character. The only movie I’ve seen this. Summer was Men in Black 3. It was pretty good.
The Needle in the Blood (for the book), unless you like mysteries then you might try the Carola Dunn, Daisy Dalrymple series. Or you could try Elizabeth Peters’ Amelia Peabody series. I’m enjoying both right now.
Movies: Sherlock Holmes-Game of Shadows (love, love, love)
The only movie I’ve seen this summer is Brave, which I liked.
I’m currently reading Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson, and I love it.
Am reading Every Day In Tuscany by Frances Mayes. Wishing I could pack up. Y knitting and head to Italy this summer.
i listen to books as i knit and right now i am loving the whole murdoch mysteries series, way better than the tv series , which i love , but the books are even better
The best movie I have seen this summer is The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. The movie was fun but at the same time had a message I think about our attitude in growing older and how we live it. Have only been reading fluff since I have been busy with camp loopy!
The book “Wild”
Best movie that hubby & I saw is The Avengers!
Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to read or go to the Movies… Knitti ng, and traveling to Italy/Greece took up much of my summer. š Oh, I remember, I did see the movie ‘Hugo’ on the airplane. …
I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen a single movie this summer – we just don’t watch a whole lot of movies! But I have read some great books – probably my favorite so far is the latest in Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next series, _The Woman Who Died a Lot_. I’m obsessed with this series (if you aren’t familiar, Thursday Next is a literary detective of sorts who travels INTO books to solve crimes – very imaginative and very funny), and ordered a copy from the UK as it comes out six months earlier there!
The best book I’ve read this summer is Patrick Gales Notes from an Exhibition. It was so well-written that I reread it immediately to see how the author did what he did.
I read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. LOVED it. Movie? The Campaign. I just saw it on Friday, and it’s been a looooong time since I laughed that much.
The best book I have read this summer is “The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven” – a true and evolving story of Alex Malarkey, a little boy who was critically injured in a car accident and the miracles involved to bring him back to his family, via Heaven! Just inspirational! It gives me much hope! The best movie I have seen this summer is Captain America. Some may think the genre is corny being a Comic Book story, but I loved the way it was done and the story that was told about a sweet, patriotic young man who’s beautiful inner nature allowed him to become someone who could really make a difference in the world.
“The Night Circus”. Great book.
Audio books really help get all those Camp Loopy projects completed.
Almost every Friday is movie day for my son and myself, so hard to choose. Madagascar III, The Dark Knight, and Promethus are the favorites that I can remember . However, my very favorite for viewing is the DVD sets from the Original Dark Shadows. Finished collection 25, library rental and then found that the library did not order collection 26 (the last one). Am going to start re-renting them this week. They are purrfect for knitting while watching!
Old book, but Empire Falls.
Have been reading “Let’s Pretend this Never Happened” By Jenny Lawson. Soooooo funny, weird and lovely. š
my fave book this summer was Gone Girl–really great story!
I recently just finished Suite Francaise, which takes place in Paris when the Nazis invade. It follows several different people and details how the war affects them and how their lives are all intertwined. The author was a Russian Jewish woman who lived there during this period and actually was tragically killed at Auschwitz. I’m usually not too big on historical fiction, but this was such a touching story!
I recently read ‘Room’ by Emma Donoghue. Very interesting book.
It’s been so long since I’ve seen a movie I don’t remember what the last one was! But I have enjoyed reading lots of books. One that I’ve enjoyed this summer is “Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand”.
Best summer movie..The Best exotic Marigold Hotel.
best book-The next Best Thing by Jennifer Weiner tied with 1,000 White women by Jim Fergus.
best movie- The Avengers
best book (series) Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones series is great.
And haven’t been to the movie theater in a loooooonnng time!
I’ve read some not so great books this year so I won’t discuss those but I had a lot of fun reading The Night Circus. Hoping my remaining books this year get better.
The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein is a great read.
I know it is slightly trashy, but I enjoyed Soulless and the rest of the series.
We’ve seen quite a few movies this summer: The Avengers, Dark Shadows, Men in Black 3, Rock of Ages. All had their good points.
I read the Hunger Game series and really enjoyed them – such a quick read.
I’ve been enjoying a lot of auidobooks this summer (all the better to knit with) – my favorites so far are Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson and Redshirts by John Scalzi.
