Club Loopy, 2011

It’s almost time for “sock club” signups for 2011, but we’ve made a few changes, including the name. Since not every shipment will include a sock yarn or sock pattern, we’ve decided to simply call it “Club Loopy” this year. Do you want to know more? (Lots of info in this post! Note: Signups will be available this week for auto-renewing and next week for new spots. See below.)

1. We will do these in two different rounds of 3 months each. The first round will be the Club Loopy for Spring with shipments in February/March/April. Β (3 kits total) The second round is planned for shipments in September/October/November and will be our Club Loopy for Fall.

2. We will be offering this two ways.

1. You can buy a full spot in the Club (via a one time payment that covers all three months and reserves all three kits for you) and we’ll ship each kit out to you automatically by mid-month in February, March, and April. Or:

2. You can wait until the kits come out each month and purchase an individual kit for that month only.

3. We’re all about bags and quotes in this first round. Each month, you’ll be receiving

1. an exclusively dyed skein of yarn
2. two patterns written for the yarn
3. an exclusive Baggu Bag with a knitting quote on it.

Each of the quotes will be one that we have decorating the walls here at Loopy. Since this is new, we’re giving you a preview of the first bag. Each month you will get a different color and size of bag with a different knitting quote on it. We didn’t order extra quote bags to sell at a later date. These are exclusive to Club Loopy. We will, however, be offering non-imprinted Baggu Bags and accessories soon. Β The bags are made of a nylon parachute-like material. (Like the GoKnit bags, if you have one of those.) They come in a little pouch and are easy to pop into your knitting bag or purse, with your project. Also, easy to loop the straps over your arm and knit on the go. And the bigger they get, the more yarn they can carry! Great for shopping.

4. Since the bag sizes and yarns are all different, the price for each kit will vary slightly from month to month. If you are using the pre-pay option, we’ve figured this all up into one price. The 3 month pre-pay cost is less than if you were to purchase each kit separately.

5. For this round, two months will bring you yarn in multi-colors and one month will bring you a beautiful semi-solid. Two will be fingering weights, one will be a DK weight. Our designers (Debbie O’Neill, Wendy Johnson, Jeannie Cartmel, and Kirsten Kapur) have been hard at work on the patterns, and the dye companies (no hints on those!) have been dyeing up a storm.

6. If you were in the sock club for the first time in 2010, watch your emails this week for a link to auto-renew and pay for the February/March/April round, if you choose. For the Fall Club Loopy, we won’t be doing auto-renews, but we hope you’ll come back and get a spot when they go up on the website.

7. We’ll sell most of the Club Loopy spots via the 3-month pre-pay option, but as I mentioned above, we will set aside a batch for individual sales each month as well.

8. The 3-month spots will go up on the website next week. As soon as you put it into your cart and pay for it, the spot is yours. We’ll ship your first kit out in a couple of weeks. No lotteries, no Loopy Lite options. We figure a 3 month round is sort of like Loopy Lite, which I know a lot of you enjoyed! To purchase the kits individually month to month, watch for them to go up mid-month, after the pre-paid kits have shipped.

9. The cost will be:
– 3 month option: $127 (plus $18 postage US & Canada, $28 postage for other countries)
– Individually: February $39 plus postage, March $46 plus postage, April $49 plus postage. All kits ship separately and can’t be added to other orders.

I’ll be sure to post on our Facebook, Twitter, and Ravelry pages when the spots are up for sale on the website. If you’re not linked up with one of those groups, come link up! (That means clicking “like” on our Facebook page, or “following” us on our Twitter page, or “joining the group” on the Loopy Groupies Ravelry page.) You’ll find the Club Loopy spots under What’s New, and also in the “Kits” section, when they go up for sale next week.

We’ll also be offering a Mother’s Day Kit in April, a Loopy Anniversary Kit in August, and possibly another special kit later in the Fall. We’ll keep you posted on those as well.

  1. Love the bag idea! And the 3 month idea too – I was part of Loopy Lite for 2010 – that was great! Will Loopy Lite members get an auto-renew for this 3 month club?

  2. Sheri, many kudos for always improving and working to please your customers. The new Club Loopy sounds great and a good way to economize, yet still have the fun of getting the package in the mail.

Hope I get one of the spots! Those bags look great, too.

  3. Sorry, but I don’t like this idea at all. I’m mainly a sock knitter and I’m not interested in getting different weights of yarns and non-sock patterns. I guess I’ll spend my sock club money this year on someone else’s sock club. Also, I don’t need a bunch of cheap nylon bags. After the bag from the sock club lite this last time and the oh snap bags and the loopy groopie bag and some other bag I got for something…I just don’t need that many bags in my life. I’d rather have a sock-club that just has the yarn and a pattern. My two cents.

  4. I think it is a great idea for the year!! Thanks for trying different things!! Variety & change keep life interesting!!

  5. Thanks for a great new club!
I was not going to do the Sock Club, but I am in for this!

I have a Baggu Bag which I always carry with me for shopping. They are terrific, washable, and compactly stored.
    Yay!

  6. Club Loopy- I like the sound of that. I think it is a great idea. I also like the idea of purchasing each month as opposed to one time.
BTW snowbound!!!! 6-8 inches of snow fell yesterday! It is nice to sit in front of the fireplace and knit! Hope you get snow! (if you want it)~

  7. and it’s super simple to stitch the baggu carry bag thing (aka baglet) to the baggu bag and make it an all in one bag of awesome so you can just fold the bag in and not have to worry if you still have the baglet that make it go all schrunch and small.

my baggu bag is a little sad though because it doesn’t have an awesome knitting quote on it…

  8. Love the ideas for the club but I hate the limitations with facebook, twitter and ravelry. Wish I could sign up for news updates without having to join a public forum.

  9. Wow – strong reactions today! Guess it’s true that you can’t please everybody all of the time, but it seems to me you’re doing a great job of trying. Club or no club, your service and selection are the best, and I’m hoping you keep tweaking and adjusting and shaking things up for a long, long time to come!

  10. Sounds interesting. I like having non-sock options in sock-weight yarn. Plus the bags look cute and I love having some that fold up stashed in my purse for when I forget to grab some. I’ll definitely be giving the spring club a try even though my stash would appreciate a little weight loss!

  11. I’m still working my way through all of the gorgeous yarn I got from last year’s sock club, so I am pretty sure the yarn retaining walls won’t let me stuff any more in!

The idea sounds pretty interesting, but I definitely prefer to pick out which ones I want when the few extras go up (like with the Dream in Color). Every once in a while there is a color that just doesn’t make me immediately interested from the skein.

  12. Love the idea…especially since I have tried to get into the sock club for three years and didn’t make it yet. I did get to participate in the sock club lite:-) I think this is much more inclusive. Thank you for thinking of a way to try to make everyone included and happy. Although, it IS true, you can’t make everyone happy; let’s face it…you will never make some people happy. I love bags…you can never have too many!!!! I have knitting bags to go with all my outfits LOL. Not to mention, the thinner, less expensive bags are great for holding projects and labeling them so you don’t forget why you bought the yarn in the first place LOL I am not the only one who does this am I???????

  13. This is just perfect, and everything I have been hoping for. Not a huge financial committment, flexibility with how to join, and more than just sock yarn. I have begun purchasing patterns that have other uses for sock yarn as I am swimming in sock yarn. I love that you are also including other yarns. As for the bags, the bags put a smile on any one’s face when I hand it to them and tell them, “Keep the bag, think of me.” My daughter loves my knitting bags, and finally has learned to knit! Maybe the bags coerced her. Hats off to you for putting together such a versatile club!

  14. I love the idea that this has expanded beyond a sock club. Who knows it may branch out even more. Do you know when the payment will be due?

  15. Great ideas, Sheri! Can’t wait to try & get into Club Loopy! I was lucky enough to be a part of Sock Club Lite last year, and am looking forward to notices from TLE in the next few weeks.
Thanks for keeping things fun & interesting πŸ™‚

  16. I like this idea and look forward to seeing the surprises this year. You never know what yarn you’ll fall in love with until you try it. Maybe I’ll find my new fave in the new club. πŸ™‚

  17. Thanks for coming up with the new idea for Club Loopy. I think it sounds great!

No snow for us, but we are expecting wind chills in the negative numbers. My hubby is making hot buttered rum right now. It’s my grandma’s by-the-cup recipe.

  18. I can’t say that I am happy about this, I am really disappointed. I loved being part of the “Sock Club” since I was bitten by the sock bug. It was the only thing I had to look forward to, every other month. But, I guess I will adjust. I am willing to have an open mind, and give it try. I am gonna miss “The Loopy Ewe Sock Club”. Oh, Well…C’est la vie.

  19. I love everything about the new club! My only complaint will be if I don’t get a spot for the second half of the year. I was FINALLY able to get in last year and was looking forward to an automatic “in” for this year.

  20. I love the new club plan, but agree with Beth, and I was a little disappointed when I saw that if we were in the club last year you are not guaranteed a spot in the 2nd half of the year. I can understand that though, because it might be easier on some people money-wise. Thanks for all the hard work you do for all of us happy Loopy Ewe customers, I know I appreciate it!!

  21. Wow, I’ve been looking for a sock club to join and I really like the concept you’ve developed for this year. I hope I get a chance at a spot!!

  22. how fun, love the bag! (will have to look at finances…:( ) and bag quotes! Also hoping for snow even though i have to drive hubby to ferry during what they predict to be the worst of it… early morning flight for him to sunshine for work for next 3 weeks.

  23. I think this is a GREAT idea! Kudos to you Sheri for trying to make everyone happy, but we all know that will never happen. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled, but more often than not, change is GOOD! I’m signing up!! I really like the fact that it just isn’t socks too. I love to knit socks, but I like a little variety! πŸ™‚

Keep up the awesome work at TLE! I am so glad I found you!

Now, if I can just remember NOT to leave the tootsie rolls on the counter when I open my packages… So much for sneaking new yarn into the house! πŸ™‚

  24. I am a bit sad as I have a yarn diet going. I have a GC to spend, but not enough to buy the club. What to do. What to do.

  25. Just a clarification on the Loopy Groupie thing…. Does this count as 1 or 3 orders toward that? Also, are you going to have a bunch of spots available, or is this going to sell out as quick as the Wollmeise? :o)

  26. I want to be included in this so bad. I just love loopy ewe and all the girls. I can hardly wait till next week. Loopy’s yarn is simply the best ever. Every skein in my stash has drool on it and lots of finger imprints. Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. Sounds exciting and perfect for me! Just finished my third pair of socks and wanted a small monthly program that wouldn’t be too overwhelming to be a part of while working. I like the idea of yarn and designer pattern surprise.

  28. This is a great idea. I have been unable to get into the sock club for the past couple of years…although I’ve been able to get the consolution kit. I love the bag. I need a bag stash. There’s no such thing as too many. Thank you for coming up with something new.

  29. YAY! A non-sock club club! I have been a member of other sock clubs and am ready for something new~ I’ll be joining!

  30. Hi Sheri, if you think 7 below wind chill is bad, try the UK this winter, we’ve just had the coldest December since records began a century ago, the temperature didn’t go above freezing for over two weeks (day or night)! for where I live in the south west that is so unusual it will stay clearly in people’s memories.

I love the idea of the club, it sounds excellent, and all the yarns on the shop sound lucious as usual. If only I had more time to knit (and more funds to pay for it!!).

But from a distant fan, thank you.

  31. I hope I get in on the Spring Club! So looking forward to what Sheri and the Elves have “in Store” for us Loopy Groupies!

  32. Boohoo I was a sock club member last year and never got the e-mail, hopefully I will be able to pick up some of my beloved kits on a month to month basis. I am taking last years kit with me today on vacation to Aruba and will miss taking the 2011 with me!
