Things to Distract Me at Work … and a CONTEST!

Loopy Elf Donna got a new puppy named Lucy. Is she not the cutest thing? She had just been to the vet, so she was exhausted from her big morning out.

She posed:

She checked out Loopy:

And then she zonked out, fast asleep.

Needless to say, all work of any kind stopped while Lucy was visiting. We all stood around and watched her sleep and talked about how darned cute she is.

So this month’s contest question is: What distracts you at work? Whether you work in the house or out of the house, I know there are things that pull you away from what you are intending to do. (Ravelry? I’m talking about you.) What distracts you?

Leave your answer in the comments and we will randomly draw names of winners next week. The prize – $25 Loopy Ewe Gift Certificates, so that you can splurge on some new yarn!

(Speaking of contests, have you clicked “like” to join our Loopy Ewe group on Facebook? We hold 24 Hour Quick Quizzes over there from time to time, with Loopy Ewe Gift Certificates for prizes. Don’t miss out!)

  1. anything distracts me at work! i often work at home, with my laptop on the kitchen table. the first thing i have to do before i can even think about working is wash all the dishes.

  2. Awwww…….I think Loopy deserves something special for keeping such a good watch over that darling sleeping baby! Well, I have no internet access at work – so what distracts me? Usually co workers!

  3. At work, my worst distraction is my co-workers! At home, my pup and my knitting, along with the internet, keep me pretty well distracted most of the time . . . actually, it’s amazing that I get anything done!

  4. I work alone in a factory unit, but the unit next to ours is a company run by a family and they have epic fights out the front of my window. Very distracting!

  5. We have an adorable new kitten who can be quite distracting! Her real name is Kaylee, but her nick name is “nutball crazy face!”

  6. I work two jobs part-time.
One job I work from home. Just about everything distracts me from getting started: internet, the fridge, books, housework. But once I get going I become so engrossed I even forget to eat.
At my other job it is mostly customer service so it is difficult to become distracted though if I have a book I want to get back to my mind does wander!

  7. i work in a hospital in the lab. i try not to get too distracted as i view my work as important. however, i do busy myself with ravelry and the the local paper on-line during the slow times.

  8. Ravelry is a huge distraction – what stash is up for sale, what new pattern is available; what’s going on in the fiber universe. The other distraction is knitting blogs. Seems like I just have to “check in” on my favorite few every day.

  9. At home, I do house stuff and then get on the computer to check my favorite knit websites or put in a few minutes of knitting. At work, I can’t do that, unfortunately.

  10. Distractions at work – I get several (okay, tons) of newsletters (including Loopy) and if I get one at work, then it’s a real struggle to keep from clicking away to see what goodies might lie inside. Nope, can’t open any of those at work…

  11. Checking this blog when I take a break…..people asking what my knitting is, (project usually is setting on top of the file cabinet next to my desk.)

  12. Daydreamiwng about my next knitting project distracts me, as does the flight fir life helicopter that flies over my office at 200′ as if comes into land at the helipad that is right outside the small hospital where I work part-time.

  13. I’m retired….but, Ravelry, blogs, Scrabble on line with my sister in law, and Angry Birds (I’ll admit it, I’m addicted) take time from more useful endeavors

  14. I manage to do a good job distracting myself with the internet while I’m trying to work. But I also share an office, and anytime other people come in or out and start talking to my officemate, I find it impossible to concentrate.

  15. Most of my distractions come from the temperature. It’s so COLD in my office that it causes me to find amusing ways to get and stay warm. Also, it causes me to frequently search Ravelry for hats, shawls, cardigans, etc for potential methods to stay warm. LOL

  16. I’m retired so my “work” situation is being home, enjoying myself. I get distracted from my fun by the dishes and laundry. Kind of the reverse of the working world.

  17. Ravelry, I am off and on all day, work gets put aside so I can check new patterns, check the groups I belong too. Facebook, some but Ravelry wins the prize for biggest distraction.

  18. Ravelry distracts me endlessly. Email too. Filling, refilling, and changing my basket at the Loopy Ewe distracts me too.

    Basically the computer distracts me.

    Thanks for the chance!

  19. Anything on the internet – especially blogs (including you Sheri). I am responsible for the company facebook page – another excuse to be on facebook.

  20. Knitting is my number one distraction. It sits on the table in the living room, and I sit down to knit just one more row, when I should be doing laundry, ironing, etc.! But, what a great distraction!

  21. Obviously since I’m writing this comment at work, the internet distracts me at work–or at least at my morning job that pays the bills. I’m on facebook, plurk, ravelry, online shopping, etc.

At my other job, the one that supports my fiber addiction, knitting/spinning/weaving distracts me. I usually work on Sundays when it’s slow slow slow. So I plan knitting projects which means I have to work more to buy yarn for said projects.

  22. Distractions? I work from home, so have no coworkers to look over my shoulder. So I am distracted by anything and everything I have bookmarked on this computer. that includes blogs, personal email, Plurk, Ravelry…

The one thing I do NOT check (often) while at work is Facebook. Everything else, however, seems to be fair game.

And occasionally, I’ll let my current knitting be distracting. 🙂

  23. Ravelry, reading blogs, Ravelry, shopping for yarn, Ravelry, Plurk, Ravelry, knitgirllls podcast and Round the twist podcast and a little more Ravelry (big time suck for me)

  24. Oh my goodness! We just said good-bye to a lovely Lucy yellow lab a few months ago… friends’ dog, but we adored her too…

Clearly, I’m distracted by blogs, dogs, Ravelry, personal email…

  25. Ravelry is definitely my biggest distraction at work with my knitting project that’s always in my purse a close second. If there were dogs around here, that would distract as well. (My Chessie is my prime distraction and home. She’s such a cute goofy thing!)

    Lucy is ADORABLE!!

  26. Ravelry, TLE, Knitty, and various other non-yarn websites. However, my work cubicle is right next to the lunch table, so at noon I have to give up on whatever I’m doing — it’s hard to concentrate when all of my coworkers are talking and eating and having a great time without me!

  27. I am distracted by the projects on the needles crying “Knit me. kmit me!”
They are lying on the couch and all over the house. How can I do anything but knit?

  28. Work distracts me at work! Doing one thing and then something else needs done right now…

That and texts from my husband who needs help with how to do everything.

  29. The cute babies/little kids! I am a Target pharmacist and always have to stop and admire the teeny ones and have a chat with the preschoolers:)
