Loopy Elf Donna got a new puppy named Lucy. Is she not the cutest thing? She had just been to the vet, so she was exhausted from her big morning out.
She posed:
She checked out Loopy:
And then she zonked out, fast asleep.
Needless to say, all work of any kind stopped while Lucy was visiting. We all stood around and watched her sleep and talked about how darned cute she is.
So this month’s contest question is: What distracts you at work? Whether you work in the house or out of the house, I know there are things that pull you away from what you are intending to do. (Ravelry? I’m talking about you.) What distracts you?
Leave your answer in the comments and we will randomly draw names of winners next week. The prize – $25 Loopy Ewe Gift Certificates, so that you can splurge on some new yarn!
(Speaking of contests, have you clicked “like” to join our Loopy Ewe group on Facebook? We hold 24 Hour Quick Quizzes over there from time to time, with Loopy Ewe Gift Certificates for prizes. Don’t miss out!)

the internet generally, though usually knitting related websites… and of course knitting.
My wonderful coworkers pick me up when I get too bogged down at work!
I’m retired, so nothing distracts me from retirement except my part-time job at my LYS! Really, distractions are not a problem. How would that work anyway? I highly recommend retirement!
I agree with alot of comments already — the internet—knitting blogs, other blogs, FB, Ravelry….. You start down a rabbit hole and one thing just leads to another and another!! Do enjoy it, tho, but I need more discipline with it!!
BTW, thanks for all the great quick knitting gift ideas recently – SO many great patterns to choose from. I’ll never get all the projects done that I’d like……but that’s part of the fun with knitting—-always new patterns, yarns, etc etc to keep you interested! Never boring!! 🙂 Thanks for putting that all together for us! 🙂
I’m very easily distracted by any knitting blog or Ravelry.
A bag of pretzel M&Ms it totally distracting until the whole bag is gone.
Distractions? The internet in general, more specifically Twitter and, to a lesser extent, blogs and email.
Hmmm, I must say that I get tempted by visiting The Loopy Ewe while at work… well worth it I must say!
I have pictures of my doggies next to my desk and I find myself looking at them alot during the day. They are my best distraction…. 🙂 Ok, the knitting at lunch also helps. 🙂
Checking my e-mail & the cooking shows on TV….cute little doggie
I used to be distracted at work by on-line novels, personal emails and searching for all info related to knitting. Now I’m home all day, and spend it all knitting, but getting distracted by searching out wonderful yarns and knitting accessories on line!
Too busy at work to be distracted. At home, it’s the knitting that distracts me from getting anything done.
I’d have to say that the entire internet is a huge distraction when I’m trying to work on anything. Sadly, all my work is computer based so it’s hard to be good!
Distractions: Internet, here’s looking at you. Useful. But Distracting.
At work, there are times when the internet lures and “just a couple of minutes” turns into 10 or 15. At home, my dogs are a big distraction if I should be cleaning, doing laundry, any of the fun stuff that has to get done.
My favorite distraction is when folks bring their babies or children to the library. I work in a university library, and I love it when faculty, students, or long graduated students bring their families in to meet me! It’s usually not a long visit, but I love getting to hold these little ones and give the toddlers a little tour and a treat.
It all depends…I have a couple of different jobs, tutoring and teaching medical students how to do pelvic exams. The first one, I get distracted if my tutee is blathering on with ridiculously complex questions that are unrelated to their current problem (which makes me an horrible tutor, I think!). As for the second…well, I can’t imagine a job where being focused is more important! But sometimes, if my student is a very good-looking young man, I forget what I’m supposed to be teaching!
My distraction is when people bring in their baby, grandbaby, wedding, etc. pictures. I can’t resist looking! I love celebrating with my friends and coworkers.
And yes, she is the cutest dog, and I’m not really a dog person. I can she that she would be a distraction.
I work in an office where I’m one of very few women. All those guys around at work can be pretty distracting. Some more than others.
It’s definitely Ravelry. I blocked myself from it except for an hour at lunch time. But it’s still amazing how I find my way around the block… knitting blogs, yarn shopping… Also, I like to chat with my coworkers or friends in other departments when I need a distraction!
I retired a year ago and was so looking forward to quality knitting time. Now my biggest distraction is the view from my deck! Somehow there’s always something to watch. Like today the wind here has been incredible and the lake – I’ve never seen it quite like this it was both angry looking and beautiful at the same time. After that well the computer is always calling me to check out Loopy Ewe for what’s new and I love reading Sheri’s blog. Then it’s on to Ravelry etc.
My phone. Its terrible. I check my email, put it down, do something for 5 minutes, then check it again. Why? Not sure. Not like I get a ton of emails from family or friends (we usually just text or facebook). It is a sick, sick addiction and I can’t stop!
Babies. Anytime somebody brings their baby in we all have to take a break and “fight” to hold/play with them. 🙂
Ravelry. It’s addictive.
I’m a high school teacher, so no ravelry, facebook, phone, etc to distract me at work. Mostly it is teenagers! Their minds go from academics to gossip, or silly stuff in about a millisecond. I have to try to keep myself and them focused.
Hunting online for patterns is a HUGE distraction!!! I get nothing done during my prep period if I start looking at patterns!
ravelry is a pretty big distraction, but it’s the internet as a whole that gets me stuck in a huge blackhole at work. i’ll try and take a break with one little blog, and then i click on a link in the post. and then on a link on the next page…and next….and then forget where i even started.
What distracts me at work? I teach 4th grade. The room is in continual motion and hummmm. Quiet distracts me.
I get distracted by puppies too! One of the best parts of my job is that I get to play with new kittens and puppies when they come in. Of course, there are plenty of adult animals that need attention too. And when we don’t have any animals there for appointments? We have 2 resident cats and the vet brings her old dog to work almost every day. Anything to keep from paperwork 🙂
Having our 5 yr old, 2 yr old & an 18 month old grandkids & a retired husband running around – I can’t walk 5 feet without one of them asking me to read them a book or give them a snack or go outside & play with me or can you find me the last electric bill – puullllease – distraction is an every second occurrence! Thank goodness the first 3 go to their own homes at 5:30!!!
OMG (as my teenaged daughter would say!) that is just the cutest pup ever! How COULD you work with her around! I work at a preschool so there is no time to be distracted! But at home, that is a different story. Um, knitting, Ravelry, anyone?
The Internet in general, and the knitting part of it especially. I can spend hours; it’s dangerous even to take a short “Internet break.”
The Internet distracts me. However, my distractions are work related. I am a technology specialist and I find so many interesting posts on Twitter about technology in schools that I can easily lose track of time. People also distract me with talking about new recipes or their crafting. It’s all good though :=)
My coworkers. Sometimes they are outrageously funny!
What doesn’t distract me?
Mostly Ravelry searches, looking at what I can knit next and seeing if I have yarn for it instead of finishing that which I already have yarn and patterns lined up for.
I teach 4-year olds and have to stay focused to keep up with them! Once in a while I do think wistfully of my knitting sitting quietly at home…
Even though I don’t have direct view of a window, weather distracts me. Just let The Weather Channel icon start blinking at me (and thunder, if I have the sound on), and I’m off checking the radar and wandering around for a better vantage point of the sky. In all its forms, weather is so fascinating!
I should have been a meteorologist.
My coworkers are the ones who distract me. We also have a dog that visits the office once a week and it is hard to get work done on those days.
Ravelry of course! 🙂
Well, I’m on your blog right now when I should be working! So, really, it’s all the social media. But I place the blame squarely on my own shoulders.
oh dear, it’s got to be Ravelry. And it’s not just distracting at work either!! But on the plus side, it leads to a lot of great yarn discoveries….wait, maybe that’s not a good thing either ;-)))
I don’t work outside the home so my distractions are varied depending on my ‘to-do list’ for the day. Usually it’s my two cats who stop me because their antics are just so funny to watch. A toy to be played with, a goofy mistep making them glare as if it was my fault, or a snuggly cuddle and purr. They’re all way more fun than the usual laundry or housework that forever calls me 🙂
Since I just graduated and yet to find work. So my ‘work’ was school… and my 4 cats kept distracting me when I was home… and when I was at school…. my knitting would distract me!
So I have two distractions… and ravelry did distract me quite often when I had my laptop in class… so I had to not have an internet window open.
Just about anything can distract me. I’ll be doing something, see something else, move to that, then see something else, move to that, etc. I didn’t used to be that way… and now your blog is distracting me from going to bed…
The Interweb — like everyone. Oh, and my husband (we both work at home).
awww..it never fails. When I’m doing something other than knitting (once in awhile!), I will pass by “the yarn” and if I go into that area, I start pulling out stuff…and then look for the needles….and then maybe a pattern. Sheesh..talking about yarn ADHD.
And the yarn is out there in full view!
Omg Lucy is the cutest thing ever!
The internet is definitely my biggest distraction.
Ravelry. Knitting. My kids. I never get anything done!
Ravelry and facebook distract me from work. And my work is being a grad student so anything internet related tends to distract me.
My distractions fall into three main categories: computer (mainly Plurk, Rav & Facebook); knitting (with all the WIPs laying around, it’s hard not to stop and work on them throughout the day!); and reading (especially since I have my new Kindle!).
