Things to Distract Me at Work … and a CONTEST!

Loopy Elf Donna got a new puppy named Lucy. Is she not the cutest thing? She had just been to the vet, so she was exhausted from her big morning out.

She posed:

She checked out Loopy:

And then she zonked out, fast asleep.

Needless to say, all work of any kind stopped while Lucy was visiting. We all stood around and watched her sleep and talked about how darned cute she is.

So this month’s contest question is: What distracts you at work? Whether you work in the house or out of the house, I know there are things that pull you away from what you are intending to do. (Ravelry? I’m talking about you.) What distracts you?

Leave your answer in the comments and we will randomly draw names of winners next week. The prize – $25 Loopy Ewe Gift Certificates, so that you can splurge on some new yarn!

(Speaking of contests, have you clicked “like” to join our Loopy Ewe group on Facebook? We hold 24 Hour Quick Quizzes over there from time to time, with Loopy Ewe Gift Certificates for prizes. Don’t miss out!)

  1. Ravelry, Google Reader, and Facebook are my three biggest distractions, followed closely by minesweeper and Mahjongg. Let’s just say I am easily distracted…

  2. My biggest distraction at work is probably knitting. I knit all the time while I answer phones. Love my job.

  3. My biggest distraction is the internet. Ravelry, TLE (pretty yarnz) and lolcats mostly. Then occasionally I bring my knitting to work and all I want to do is knit!

  4. OMG that dog IS adorable. She would have stopped me working too. I work from home and distractions include Ravelry, browsing the Loopy Ewe site, Lolcats (and my “in person lolcats”) and my favorite blogs – this one, Wendyknits and Crazy Aunt Purl

  5. I’m always distracted at work! I work with special education kids in middle school and it doesn’t take much to divert my attention! At home, Ravelry and TLE ares my distractions of choice!

  6. I agree with everyone else on this one….hands down…The Intrnet. Email, Ravelry, Browsing Amazon… All of it. And it is all time I wish I had spent knitting….

  7. Babies, little kids, pet therapy pets can distract me at work. People in general – I’m always ready for a good yak.

  8. I work at home and can’t have the radio on, even on the classical station, or it will distract me. I’m definitely tempted away from working by checking email, Ravelry, and Facebook.

  9. My biggest distraction is a six month old miniature schnauzer named Shakespeare (affectionally called Will). He joined our family at eight weeks of age and has chewed up two sets of Addi lace circs, my phone charger, a heating pad, Birkenstock sandals, my Namaste hot pink accessories case and various other items. He is so cute though–cannot stay mad at him. He has been good this week so hopefully he is growing out of his chewing stage.

  10. LOL My work is my biggest distraction from itself! I spend so much of my day wondering what I was doing a minute ago… There’s always a phone ringing or someone needing help!

  11. The news on the internet. Our local news have some commenters that are just crazy and it is like a train wreck reading them. I periodically go and read one of the newer news stories and just shake my head at what people will comment. It’s sometimes sad that they have nothing to do but leave rude comments.

Occasionally, I do look for yarn but they watch what we look at and block some of it so it is hit or miss.

  12. Well, I’m a school teacher so you’d be surprised of the things that distract me at work! Today, it was a 7th grader who lost a tooth while eating a Tootsie Pop. He freaked out and distracted the whole class. (Losing teeth is usually the domain of the lower grades, but that makes the third this year for my class!)

  13. I work part-time at a knitting shop. I am constantly distracted by the yarns, especially when new stock arrives!
At home, when I’m trying to do any kind of work, I am distracted by the views of Cape Cod Bay out my back windows. It’s beauty changes constantly.

  14. The internet used to be my big distraction. No more! I decided that I want to live in the real world and not through a computer screen. Now my three dogs distract me, but that’s the way I like it.

  15. At the office, the comings and goings of the people around me distract me; when working from home (yes, I get to do that!), my dogs “protecting” me from evil trucks, evil cars, evil neighbors, and evil dogs on the street distract me. I don’t let my knitting distract me or I’d never get anything done!

  16. Hi! I’m a teacher too – so the only distractions are earthquake/fire drills in the middle of tests, kids throwing up….etc. I tutor at lunches, and we only get a 4 min break besides lunch from start at 7:30 to end of day at 2:15, our “restroom run”…so no time otherwise. Our staffroom is always empty. I carry knitting with in the faint hope, or wish desire I’ll actually have time at lunch one day…..that hasn’t happened yet…..but was very useful when I got caught behind a rock slide on the way home!

  17. I work with high school age kids, in special education, and there is an ENDLESS amount of distractions there…though usually I’m trying to stop them!

Today there was a baby mouse that had somehow gotten trapped in the classroom. Cue plenty of distraction until someone took care of it!

  18. Ravelry and Facebook, and the ever-changing scene outside my window of the foot traffic on L Street at 20th Street in Washington DC. I especially liked all the “flowers” blooming out there today in the rain. (aka umbrellas. There are so many pretty ones.)

  19. Ravelry, TLE, all things yarn/knitting related on the web, and being in the Eastern Time Zone, stalking the Friday A.M. Wollmeise updates!

  20. The internet in general distracts me most often from work. Sometimes I just come to TLE and look at all the pretty photos, or remind myself what I bought and have waiting at home for me. Of course, on Mondays, I’m trying to figure out what might be in the sneak up that night!
