Things to Distract Me at Work … and a CONTEST!

Loopy Elf Donna got a new puppy named Lucy. Is she not the cutest thing? She had just been to the vet, so she was exhausted from her big morning out.

She posed:

She checked out Loopy:

And then she zonked out, fast asleep.

Needless to say, all work of any kind stopped while Lucy was visiting. We all stood around and watched her sleep and talked about how darned cute she is.

So this month’s contest question is: What distracts you at work? Whether you work in the house or out of the house, I know there are things that pull you away from what you are intending to do. (Ravelry? I’m talking about you.) What distracts you?

Leave your answer in the comments and we will randomly draw names of winners next week. The prize – $25 Loopy Ewe Gift Certificates, so that you can splurge on some new yarn!

(Speaking of contests, have you clicked “like” to join our Loopy Ewe group on Facebook? We hold 24 Hour Quick Quizzes over there from time to time, with Loopy Ewe Gift Certificates for prizes. Don’t miss out!)

  1. “What distracts you at work?” What doesn’t distract me at work.

    1. People
    2. Noise
    3. Phone
    4. Phone Games
    5. Thinking about knitting
    6. Food
    7. Emails
    8. Thinking about yarn

  2. My biggest distraction from my to do list is usually my list of blog feeds. 🙂 I love going through and seeing what everybody is creating.

  3. The weird conversations I hear are what distract me at work! People are living MUCH more interesting lives than I lead.

  4. Yarn…yarn, Ravelry, facebook, fiber and more yarn. Anyting to do with yarn distracts me from work, Well at least work at home. At my day job having fun wih my coworkers distracts me from actually doing “real” work.

  5. Ravelry? A distraction? Blogs? Online shopping (at the Loopy Ewe of course)? oh yeah and then there is getting up to make a cup of tea and waiting for it to steep and my dog and ……. May it all distracts me 🙂 latifa

  6. Just about anything, since working is no fun, especially in the fall. The leaves are beautiful in New England. ( I live in Rhode Island )

  7. Ravelry for sure but the peacock that hangs around can be pretty distracting too. Of course, I’m easily distracted.

  8. funny you should mention facebook- it is amazing what a time suck it can be! I get lost in Ravelry world as well and once I check into a blog that links me to another blog…I am sure you get the picture! I have three kids as well and they can be distracting as well (can be??) Thanks for all the great holiday knitting ideas!

  9. What distracts me at work? Well, usually the kids (I’m a supply teacher) distract me – trying to look all cute and such…or my worrying and wondering about whether or not I’m doing a good enough job.

  10. a cute baby visiting the office and of course anything knitting related (blogs, ravelry, facebook updates from yarn related sources) . yikes! Why cant the work week be 2 days and the weekend 5 day. That would allow so much more knitting time. 😉

  11. I work from home. Ravelry, IM’g with family members, plus reading a number of newspaper web sites across the country, and watching Food Network manage to distract me from my work. (I am one of many who choose not to do FaceBook or Twitter or the like. Those social networking sites are great ways to get your personal information stolen, per numerous news stories on the TV networks and newspapers, so you can have your identity stolen, not by normal users, but by thieves who make a huge fortune off of the ID thefts. And that doesn’t even count the new Trojan Horse having to do with Video on FaceBook and other social networking sites this past week that even affects Macs, in addition to Windows, for the first time . I have resisted those forever, and I will continue to stay off of those. Ravelry is different, it should be ok.) And don’t click on links on FaceBook or open emails that are unexpected or have to do with Video, as these are probably the Trojan Horse.

On a brighter subject, I love puppies & puppy pictures! They are awesome! 🙂

  12. Since I am now retired everyday is a distraction. I knit, quilt, knit some more- housework is just a thought but even if I start I see my knit projects waiting for me and sit and knit (just a few rows—-right)

  13. Really? You want to know what distracts me at work….it’s those loud talkers! Especially those ones who speak like they have a mouth full of marbles and say” you know, you know?” We work in cubicles people!!! Talk quieter! And with less acronyms…ISU, VSU…well SU! That’s Short for Shut up! Maybe I’m PMSing. 🙂

The 2nd thing is that I’m right next to a floor to ceiling window and if it’s beautiful out I want to gaze out it.

  14. the TV distracts me at work since it is in my view at the register. Also I think a new puppy will be my new distraction at home but not yet…

  15. The only 3 things that distract me from my job (which is teaching/subbing) is, in this order, F5ing during lunch and recess breaks during possible Wollmeise updates on TLE on my iPhone, then Ravelry if I have a computer to sit with, and lastly, if I have no computers and go to the teacher’s lounge for lunch- then I tend to sit and knit for ten minutes while my soup cools down!
If I am in a position where I am a long-term teacher and not day-to-day, then usually my spare time get taken up making copies of work for the students!

  16. My daughter! I work from home, and there is nothing more distracting in the world than a cute and bright 7 year old.

  17. My STASH distracts me!!! I go merrily along thinking I’m gonna be monogamous in my knitting and I happen to walk past my stash and BANG! I get a case of startitis. Is there any hope for me????

  18. Sheri, I work in a very serious office so surprisely enough political disucssions distract me! It may be because I work right on top of DC and the Pentagon :>.

We throughly enjoy disucssing whatever highlights catch our attention during lunchtime reading.

And – I’ve had a couple of Loopies orders lately and they’ve been great! Thanks for the timely nservice. I especially like the Layshea bar I bought (Pear scent) and the Namaste items – the Buddy is absolutely wonderful. It would make a great gift for anyt knitting pal!

  19. Distractions at work? I work in a women’s clothing store and when new knitted products come in we all ooh and aah. Plus puppies and dogs – we all stop to hold them and cuddle them.

  20. I’m always thinking about my next knit project. I love creating new things. Ravelry gives me ideas that I try to work with to come up with new and interesting knits. 🙂

  21. oh, Ravelry is definitely the culprit here. I work from home, writing on the computer, so Raveling is a constant temptation! I don’t even read the great blogs (Yarn Harlot, Panopticon) very often…

  22. Watching birds and squirrels out the front window…and checking on whether or not a bird survived colliding with the window.

  23. What distracts me the most at work? I work in a school, so I would have to say that knitting and or checking Ravelry during my breaks is the biggest distraction. I often lose track of time…it’s a good thing I stay in my classroom and the students “wake me up” when they come in for class! 🙂

  24. the cats are my biggest distraction. i work from home, so they think as long as i’m here i may as well be petting them.
