In honor of our Third Anniversary Month, I’m doing a special contest blog on three different Mondays in August. Today’s blog starts with a mini photo history of Loopy Central.
We started in a little corner of the basement and this was just going to be a little thing I did “on the side”. It was going to be “on the side” because I already had a fun scrapbooking business that I had been doing for 14 years. After Loopy took off, I retired from the scrapbooking business to put all of my time and effort here, instead. (This is one of the first Knitting Groups to come shop in person! Honestly, our space was not a whole lot bigger than what you see in the photo. I had to move out of the little corner so that they’d have room to move around a wee bit and shop.)
We packed boxes and left them on the porch and in our front hallway for the mailman.
Soon we had to expand the shelves into the rest of our basement, to fit more yarn and accessories in.
Then we gave up and moved it out of the house and into our own space.
After a year in the new space, we added the space next to ours so that we could double the size again.
Since we still have plenty of room to add more shelves in our current space, I’m hoping we won’t have to expand any more! (And I have no desire to get to the “warehouse” size. I want to work in a colorful, fun, inspiring-looking shop. I love walking into Loopy Central every morning. It’s bright and cheerful and happy here!)
Today’s blog contest question: How did you first find out about The Loopy Ewe? Leave your answer in the blog comments, and we’ll draw for winners next week. (And it’s ok to say “I don’t remember” if you don’t remember.) We send out one prize package for every 250 comments and last week we gave out 5 of them. (What’s in there? We sent 3 skeins of yarn and 3 accessories in each package, because we’re kind of into 3’s this month.) We’re ready to send out more, so leave your comments and we’ll use the random number generator to draw new names sometime next week.
This week’s Anniversary Special: we have all Cherry Tree Hill yarn, all Heartstrings patterns, and all GoKnit accessories for 20% off. Enjoy this special until midnight Friday. The final Anniversary Week Specials (and our last Anniversary Contest) will be announced in the blog next week.
Also – we just added new things to the website! Under What’s New, you’ll find: Numma Numma Toasty and The Usual, String Theory, Prism Merino Mia, Schoppel Wolle Zauberball (including the new Crazy colors), Yarn Pirate, Intentions Yarn by Miss Violet, Hand Maiden Swiss Mountain Super Sock (brand new!), Perchance to Knit/Spin Roving, 3 AM Emily Bags, Loopy’s Carabiner Tape Measure, Loopy’s Red Sticky Book, and a Lorna’s Laces re-stock, including the Sock Summit colorways (Hydra Pool Party, Lorna’s Lazers, Frankenstein’s Cotillion, Hobgoblin Hoedown, Ghoul’s Gala, Nightmare’s Night Out, and Medusa’s Masquerade.) Next week we’ll also have Whidbey Island, which is the special colorway they did for us to have exclusively at the Summit. Zombie BBQ sold out at the Summit, but we’ll get more for you. Also next week, the special colors that Dream in Color flash-dyed for us to have at the Sock Summit, and several other fun things as well.

I honestly don’t remember, but I am SO glad that I did!
I think it was from Wendy Knits!, but I’m not sure. All I know is I’ve spend more than my fair share at the store!
I think I found you on ravelry and haven’t stopped drooling on your website.
Discovered the Loopy Ewe on an add from the Seascape Shawl at Knitty. When I saw there was a website specific to lace and sock yarn I had to see. I love the site and the blog is fun. Hope to visit the store someday!!
My sister Terri told me about LOOPY EWE a year or so ago and I have been enjoying it ever since.
Arlene
I found Loopy through Wendy’s blog. Had to try you out after seeing all the yarn wonderful she was purchasing from you. You are the best!
i was googling for sock blockers. luckily, i found you!
I googled “sock yarn” and found you. I am ever so glad!!!! I love your shop and think that you have THE BEST customer service in the world. Happy Anniversary!!!! Do not ever leave us, we would be lost. Thank you Sheri and Elves for everything.
I found out about the Loopy Ewe from Wendy.
I heard about TLE for the first time from Wendy’s blog, and over time have been strongly enabled by my wonderful friends in the Loopy Groupies forum on Ravelry 🙂
I am so glad you are here!
I think I found TLE through a search engine–it was so long ago I don’t remember! 😉
Happy Anniversary.. I love my cup, tape measure and yarn!!!! I first heard about the Loopy Ewe on Ravelry or someone’s podcast.
Evelyn
I don’t remember — but so glad I know about it. I sure enjoy reading your blogs!
I believe I probably discovered about TLE from just reading various knit and crochet blogs. That or from Knitty! 🙂
I am pretty sure I found you through Ravelry. Congratulations!
Hmmm… I think I first heard of The Loopy Ewe via a button on someone else’s blog. Marisol’s (Purls Just Wanna Have Fun), maybe? Anyway, I took a look at your website, and now I’m hooked! Thanks for your wonderful customer service, and congrats on your anniversary. 😀
I am pretty sure I found you through Wendy Knits like so many others. Funny thing is that I didn’t even knit socks at the time but I was intrigued with both her blog and your lovely yarn. Yes, I have knit a few pairs of socks since then but not as many as the yarn I have purchased would indicate!
Lime and Violet turned me onto you guys. I (all too quickly) became a groupie and haven’t looked back!
Congrats and well wishes for a long and fruitful venture and for supplying me so well
Honestly, I don’t remember how I first heard of you…but I sure am glad I did!
Ravelry…yeah!
I first heard about your shop from a Lime N Violet podcast. Your selection is so good and so tempting. And your online shop is one of the best ones I have ever dealt with. My sister loves your shop too (by proxy-since I make socks for her from your yarn offerings). I hope you continue your business for a long long time. Isn’t the internet just a great thing?
Back in your basement days, I was making my first pair of socks and a friend suggested i check out the loopy ewe. It took me another year to figure out that you were only a 30 minute drive from my house….
Happy Anniversary Sheri and all of the Elves.
I thnk I first saw The Loopy Ewe ad in the back of a knitting magazine. It all snowballed from there for me! I couldn’t stop ordering! Then, alll of a sudden, I was a vendor for a short time!
Top notch customer service. That won me over.
As an reader of several blogs & magazines I have seen your name but most of all on Wendy Knits.
Happy Anniversary.
I can’t remember for sure, but I think I heard about The Loopy Ewe from the Lime & Violet podcast. I made one order and was hooked!!! I love that I can order my yarn on a Monday night and have my yarn in hand most weeks by Thursday to show off at my knitting group! 😉
I think from Wendy Knits. I’m not sure though. It was the Dream in Color stuff that dragged me in though.
And happy third. May there be many more.
I found you guys after I started knitting socks. We had no lys, so I searched on the web and found you. So glad I did, love shopping with you.
I think it was Wendy, but however I found you I’m glad I did!
Found you through Wendy Knits blog. Love you guys!
Hi, I Love the Loopy Ewe…I was searching for sock blockers…
I think I asked jeeves…I also read alot about you on different knitting blogs.
Your so popular…Keep up the good work you provide for us all….Thanks
Gail Lucille.
Loopy found me!!! The cute logo caught my eye on another knitting page and who could resist such a cutie!!
You gotta love Loopy!!!
Through Wendy Johnson, or course!
I heard about tle at knit night. Hope my comment is not too late for the contest.
I can’t for the life of me remember…I’ve been with you from the very beginning! And hooray for that! ;-D
I found out about you when I was looking for some Sweet Georgia Slayer yarn, and I managed to snag a couple of skeins for my first or second order. Still haven’t knit them up though, there was a gauge deception on the yarn’s part…
Wendy led me here!
~Christine
I found you by listening to Lime N Violet!! Those girls love you a lot!!
I found you from Wendy Knits. Love her! TLE rocks!!
I don’t know how I found the Loopy Ewe, but thank goodness I did! Love everything you offer and rarely shop anyplace else! Happy Anniversary!
Andrea
I noticed your sponsorship of SS09 on the Sock Summit website
Most definitely, Ravelry!!
Don’t know where I’d be today without it. A day without Raveling is like a day without sunshine, or chai!
I found this marvelous vendor through Ravelry and just fell in love! You have the best selection. Such loveliness here!
Thanks for running these contests.
A knitting guild friend told me about your site. I was hooked from my first visit! Funny thing is, I became a Loopy Groupie long before she did. Granted, I have only a cat and a yarn/book/music habit to support, while she’s married with two kids.
It’s been a pleasure watching your wonderful business be so successful and expand to such a big “small business.” I love seeing nice people who give good customer service have the success they so richly deserve. May it continue for as long as you want it to!
It was nice to see you in person at Sock Summit!
I don’t remember how I first heard about TLE but I was hooked from day one! Such an amazing diversity of yarn, friendly people and awesome customer service.
I don’t remember, but with so many others saying Wendy Knits (I love little Lucy), that’s probably the case with me, too. I read her everyday, just like TLE – where I get , knitting, food, knitting, bugs. (I think I covered one of those things with bug spray the other day, ew, hate bugs), and just about everything else, including great contests! Happy Anniversary!!
I learned about TLE from my friend Marita. She’s a yarn-finding genius. I owe all my skeins of Wollemeise to her quick fingers!
I learned about TLE from reading Wendy Knits blog. Soooo much gorgeous yarn, just not enough time (or maybe I should learn to knit in my sleep)! Happy Anniversary Sheri and Company!
I love Loopy Ewe and am so glad to have found it. : ) I found it from reading Wendy Johnson’s blog. Happy Anniversary!
In August of 2006, I had been knitting socks for about six months and was catching on to all the fantastic yarns out there. I was anxious to find some Claudia Hand Painted sock yarn and I found The Loopy Ewe through a link on the Claudia web-site. Sheri had just opened the shop that very month! I’ve been shopping with The Loopy Ewe ever since.
I learned about you from Wendy knits web site she talked about your wonderful customer service
