In honor of our Third Anniversary Month, I’m doing a special contest blog on three different Mondays in August. Today’s blog starts with a mini photo history of Loopy Central.
We started in a little corner of the basement and this was just going to be a little thing I did “on the side”. It was going to be “on the side” because I already had a fun scrapbooking business that I had been doing for 14 years. After Loopy took off, I retired from the scrapbooking business to put all of my time and effort here, instead. (This is one of the first Knitting Groups to come shop in person! Honestly, our space was not a whole lot bigger than what you see in the photo. I had to move out of the little corner so that they’d have room to move around a wee bit and shop.)
We packed boxes and left them on the porch and in our front hallway for the mailman.
Soon we had to expand the shelves into the rest of our basement, to fit more yarn and accessories in.
Then we gave up and moved it out of the house and into our own space.
After a year in the new space, we added the space next to ours so that we could double the size again.
Since we still have plenty of room to add more shelves in our current space, I’m hoping we won’t have to expand any more! (And I have no desire to get to the “warehouse” size. I want to work in a colorful, fun, inspiring-looking shop. I love walking into Loopy Central every morning. It’s bright and cheerful and happy here!)

I think I’m may have read about Loopy Ewe once on the Yarn Harlot’s blog but it was really Wendy’s blog that I really looked into it. Now I’m doing a KAL on Ravelry with Wendy’s newest book.

Wow, it was so great to see “Loopy Through The Ages” this morning ! I came to TLE almost 3 years ago from the very, very first time Wendy mentioned you on her blog. Remember when you only had 5 yarn lines and had a contest to guess how many skeins of yarn were in stock in the whole shop? Or the time you broke the mail truck? Good times! I have been following along ever since, and have a finished sock drawer full of lovely socks from Loopy yarns. Thanks for all you do and happy anniversary!

Sheri, Congratulations again on this anniversary and continued success with the Loopy Ewe. I think I googled sock yarn and found a listing for you. It was very soon after you had started and I got in your first sock club. Loved the Jknits blue, burgundy and white socks that were the 1st (I think) anniversary kit. And last night I was using my very favorite stitch marker–a little pumpkin that came with a doughnut in one of the early fall kits. The sock was called pheasant and is still one of my very favorites to wear and one of my favorites to knit. Many happy, happy memories have been created for me by all the wonderful people associated with the Loopy Ewe.
Memory gets weaker with every stitch, but I think I first heard of you from the WendyKnits blog. Happy Anniversary and thanks so much for all you’ve done for so many. We knitters have benefited, but so also have many talented dyers and spinners and crafters of all sorts.

I first heard about loopy from an online blog that pointed to good sock info and sources.

I found you via Googling for “St. Louis yarn shops” early in Jan 2007. I was blown away by the beautiful yarns and the explosion of color. At the time I could only crochet and decided that the yarn I had ordered needed to be knit.
This would be the second time in my life that you have been directly responsible for a new hobby being introduced to my life. The first was back in 1997 when someone gave me your card while I was standing in the scrapbooking aisle at a Megabox store not to far from Loopy Central.
I am so thankful I found you too.

to my fellow Socknitter for the tip : poorer in the bank account, but much
happier having found the best of all yarn stores. I feel pround to have kept Loopy
