Silent Night

It’s starting to look like Christmas here at The Loopy Ewe. Just a little. Besides this and the door wreath and a string of lights, that’s about the extent of it. I wish my house was so quick and easy to decorate!  That’s on my schedule for this weekend. (How far ahead do you all decorate for the holidays?) Since I’m here at Loopy Cental more hours in my day than I am at home, we had to have a little something holiday-ish here.

Speaking of the holidays, here is a photo of the new Limited Edition color for December from Cherry Tree Hill, called Silent Night. (Along with the companion solid color, Cornflower.)  We get all of the limited edition colorways in Supersock Select, because we love that soft yarn base and the way it takes the color so vibrantly.  These are enroute to us and we’ll have them up for you as soon as they get here. Did you get the other Limited Edition colors?  We have a few Burnished Berry left, and then there was Very Scary and Pilgrim’s Progress.  It’s fun to see what they come up with each month.

It’s time to welcome new Loopy Groupies again! Remember, you make Loopy Groupie status when you get your 6th package from us. We send along a special welcome bag for you with that order, and you get an email when we put up the major re-stocks (aka: Sneak Ups) each week. From time to time, we also do a Loopy Groupie Appreciation Month and this is one of those months!  With your first December order, all LG’s will be receiving our favorite calendar, the Romney Ridge Farm calendar for 2009. (Isn’t this a face to love?) So welcome to the following new Loopies: Carol in OH, Melissa in NC, Katherine in NC, Mary Ellen in PA, Liz in IL, Emily in IA, Michelle in CA, Lori in MO, Shelley in DC, Lynn in WA, Jessica in CA, Katherine in TX, Anne in WI, Sylvia in CA, MaryLu in OH, Marcia in MA, Grace in TX, Noella in MA, Camila in AK, Sanna in Finland, Danielle in CA, Rachel in MI, Debra in SC, Deborah in KY, Alma in GA, Barb in UT, Elsie in CA, Paula in FL, Lisa in TX, Katherine in IL, Christine in KY, Jessica in VA, Lynda in NJ, Susan in GA, Jennifer in VA, Heather in IA, Toni in TN, Helen in MO, Kathy in MO, Francesca in CA, Karen in MD, Elizabeth in ND, Jill in VA, Debra in AR, Judy in OR, Melissa in UT, Petra in Finland, Natasha in GA, Margaret in NY, Christina in MA, Erin in GA, Sharon in NE, Anmiryam in PA, Sarah in NY, Heather in OH, Tamra in MD, Phyllis in GA, Stephanie in VA, Eve in GA, Nelly in CA, Kay in NY, Susan in CO, Judith in WA, Lucy in the U.K., Kristi in MA, Laura in NJ, Teri in WA, Nicole in WA, Carol in VA, Sarah in Australia, Kristine in KY, Karen in CA, Pamela in MA, Christine in OK, Tara in VT, Jennifer in CA, Trista in WA, Terry in CA, Barbara in NH, Caryn in IL, Emily in AK, Deborah in AL, Rosalee in Canada, Mandy in PA, Pat in Canada, Teri in WA, Mary Beth in AZ, Kelly in MI, Nina in MA, Karyn in NY, Jenny in IA, Kjirsten in WI, Nadine in Germany, Carla in FL, Marjoein in Sweden, Winnie in AZ, Andrea in AZ, Janelle in Canada, Janice in VA, Heather in FL, Leah in OR, Phyllis in GA, Patty in OH, Maggi in VA, Terri in SC, Sara in MA, Ida in NY, Hanuko in CA, Michelle in CO, Leigh Ann in VA, Rebecca in CO, Samantha in CO, Alice in VA, Megan in NC, Marian in NJ, Valerie in ME, Emily in IL, Kathryn in MA, Cheryl in OH, Lynn in Canada, Karen in CO, Rebecca in PA, Malia in CA, Barbara in CA, Theresa in WA, Malia in VA, Alicia in GA, Christine in CA, Beth in CA, Kelly in MO, Pam in OK, Linda in MA, Carolyn in MD, Mary in AL, Joyce in NC, Jennifer in Canada, Sarah in IL, Diane in MI, Shel in MO, Joan in WI, Jayne in Canada, Kate in  Canada, Melissa in CA, Leanna in WI, Ward in AK, Regina in Germany, Nannette in GA, Erynn in MN, Suzanne in CA, Laura in GA, Janet in CA, Lisa in CT, Elisabeth in Norway, Larissa in NH, Erica in NJ, Nicole in MD, Erica in NJ, Dawn in DE, Kaaren in OR, Brooke in MD, Marianne in NC, Gisela in TX, Dorris in PA, Marie in GA, Elizabeth in CA, Katherine in TX, Deborah in RI, Rain in CA, Ellen in Australia, Paula in Canada, Rachel in IN, Kate in Ga, Heather in FL, Alison in NY, Deb in NC, Amber in NJ, Anne in AZ, Deb in MO, Kimberly in FL, Susan in WA, Pamela in CA, Rose-Marie in Sweden, Teresa in CA, Sarah in NJ, Lisa in TX, Beth in CT, Erin in Canada, Cindy in VA, Eugenia in OR, Patricia in CA, Lisa in NY, Janet in IL, Elizabeth in TX, Christina in WA, Adrienne in OR, Janel in CO, Kelli in VA, Marion in VA, Melanie in TN, Suzanne in CA, Julie in CO, Denise in MA, Shawna in IN, Sharron in OH, and Julie in PA. 1. good morning Sheri! I hope to get some Christmas decorations up this week but with hubby wanting to spend every weekend at the cabin, it’s hard to get into the spirit 🙁 since we don’t have a lot of time during the week to get stuff out.

And this year I think I may just get a small prelit fake tree; our new cat Mia thinks nothing of flying thru the air from bookcase to couch to cat tree, and I can just see her knocking it over and water everywhere!

  2. We are finally going to have one of each this year. We have two giant windows that overlook the front yard. I would like to get the real tree big enough that it looks like it’s going into the floor and ending as the artificial tree upstairs. Alas, the boy thinks that’s a silly idea. 🙂

  3. I don’t put up Christmas decorations at my place. I wait and enjoy my mom’s because she likes to go all out. : ) I think she’s switched over to artificial since her friends got out of the Christmas tree farm business as I know she used to like to buy from them.

Look forward to the new LTD Ed CTH – I seem to be collecting them. : -D

And, woo hoo for more Loopy Groupies – that’s so wonderful! : )

  4. Thanks for the heads-up on the Limited Edition CTH. I love these colorways.

Mrs. Scrooge here decorates by hanging a wreath on the door. I’m too busy knitting to do much decorating. I used to put up a huge tree (I collected ornaments). I’m thinking about putting up a small pre-lit tree but would have to put kitty/dog proof ornaments on it.

I decorate me by eating lots and lots of yummy stuff and wearing Christmas shirts.

  5. Real trees. I love the smell of having them around – I think it adds something to decorations. And in a first this year, a real tree at work! We’re decorating it this week. Love the new CTH too!

  6. Real!

We all go out as a family to a Christmas tree farm, and cut down our own.

    One of my favorite rituals.

    Christine

  7. I try to decorate Thanksgiving weekend. We did a little but not all of it. We will have 3 threes. 2 artificial, 1 real. So far, we have one done, our St. Jude tree (Dyl was there for Christmas last year, so he picked a white tree, which we decorated w/ ornaments from St. Jude, and crafts he made while there. We decided to keep it that way and only add the new yearly ornaments from St. Jude on to that tree) The other 2 will get done this weekend.

  8. I’m too busy knitting to decorate much. Plus it’s just me and the hubby, and neither of us cares that much. I bought two large poinsettias and placed them by the fireplace and put a live wreath on the door. And will hang stockings on the fireplace. That’s about it. Maybe string a few lights on the front porch rail. If I need more Christmas bling, I’ll cast on with my new skein of Starry which I love.

  9. I’m a real tree person. We do have an artificial tree and I only put that up when it’s not our turn to host Christmas (not many people see it then), or if, by chance, I feel Scroogy that particular year. Which does happen sometimes. I’d like to get a real tree this year, only a small one – a cute 5-6 foot one. It’s a minimalist Christmas this year, I think.

I hope to start my cookie baking this Friday and find time to get that cute little tree also. There aren’t many weekends before Christmas this year to prepare so it feels alittle earlier than usual getting ready. Glad my knitted gifts are done – that helps on the stress level.

    Happy Decorating!

  10. Hi Sheri! We put up our artificial tree the day after Thanksgiving, and this was the first year that our 2 year old helped to decorate the tree–he was so cute! He loves all the Christmas carols that we play on the cd player…cant wait to get more knitting time in soon. I have a few gifts I am making for my husband, dad, son, and myself. I’m also knitting a christmas tree skirt.

  11. Always a real tree for me! I will never forget one Christmas when I was about 16 and my parents were discussing getting an artificial tree. I was so upset that some of my friends secretly went out, bought me a real tree and showed up with it at our front door one night. That was one of the most thoughtful Christmas surprises I have ever had.

  12. We just decorated our office for both Hanukkah (me) and Christmas (the guys). We have a small artificial tree and a Menorah in place, plus we put garland around the lamp posts.

Between calls today, I will be sending out my holiday cards and sneaking in some holiday knitting.

Looking forward to receiving the calendar this week – thank you 🙂

  13. oh, I am a cheater on the Christmas tree.

We run a summer only tourist operation here in Alaska, so I go down to the giftshop and grab the fully decorated Xmas tree (artificial) and make the kids carry it up to the dining hall, and we add our family ornaments.

After Christmas, we make certain to only take off the ornaments without price labels and take it back down to the sales floor.

  14. Welcome aboard to all the new Groupies! The more, the merrier! 😎

I do a real tree, although with my allergies I really should have an artificial. I blame it on the cat, telling Mama that he REALLY loves the real tree. 🙂 He does, too, and in fact, this time of year he’s known as The Light Inspector because he “helps” with that part.

In fact, I got the tree the other day, got it set up and watered, but still no lights or decorations. I came around the corner half an hour later, and there he sat, staring at the tree as if to say, “It needs something….” Missed the perfect Christmas card picture there. It was great!

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE that colorway! May have to get some!

  15. We have such a cozy little condo that we don’t have a tree. Last year we picked up one of the foot tall black trees and decked it out with little blue lights, but that was the extent of it. I miss having a real tree though. We always got a spruce and it made the house smell so nice!

  16. A real tree, balsam, that we get at a local Christmas tree farm. But I don’t put it up till the weekend before Christmas and then we keep it up till 12th Night.

  17. We have artificial. I got sick of being the only one who had to clean up and make sure the tree was watered. This year we have 3 big trees and one small.

  18. Because I’m afraid that my kitty would be way too interested (my other cats would routinely knock down my small tree–fortunately, there was no glass in little paws because I had all soft ornaments), I no longer get a Christmas tree. If I did, though, it would be a real one.

I have a large plant in my window, and I put Christmas lights on that. It looks very festive!

  19. If we do a Christmas tree, it is real. But this year we will be with the grandkids for Christmas, so no tree at our place. I do have a very tiny artificial one I put up when we don’t have a big tree. I like to decorate after Thanksgiving and leave everything up until Jan 6.

  20. As much as I love real trees, we do artificial. With a toddler and three cats, one of whom trees herself in the tree EVERY year, plus me being allergic to them, it’s just not practical to get the real one. Maybe when the toddler grows up a little more…

  21. we have an artificial one since cutting down trees year after year is not good for the environment. THis way, you spend once and have to use for years to come (and cheaper too) then if we “pine” (ha!) for the xmas tree smell we light a tree scented candle

  22. My mom’s going to get the Christmas tree up tomorrow with the help of my aunt and cousins (not to gross anyone out, but mom discovered droppings – loads – in the attic, and mom doesn’t like mice so my aunt’s coming to help because she can handle stuff like that). We have a pre-lit tree and it looks so nice. But we’ve never had a real tree. To be honest, that’s about the extent of our decoration – wished we would do more like lights around the house and bushes. Have fun decorating!

  23. I like the tradition of the family going together to pick out the tree, cutting it down ans dragging it through the snow of Pittsburgh to bring it home and decorate. Some of those memories are my fondest of growing up.
I can’t wait to read about everyone’s RAK!

  24. We have two real trees. We always get a 10ft+ fresh tree for our living room – hopefully the 15mo old won’t learn how to pull it down. Then we descorate the 20ft blue spruce in our front yard. When we started the tradition 5 years ago, the tree was a lot shorter!

  25. Yay! I got my Loopy Groupie Package today! You guys at Loopy Central are fantastic!

Our tree is atrificial, just waiting to be decorated this weekend hopefully. It depends on how much time I have left. Got to do some clearing up around the apartment first. I have a feeling my stash has exploded, it seems to be yarn everywhere :S

I love all of the LTD ed CTH yarns and will definatley be getting one skein of decembers along with the companion colour.

  26. My traditional time to put out all the Christmas decorations is the weekend (or Friday) after Thanksgiving. I was a little earlier this year though and I noticed that quite a few people I know (and businesses) were decorating earlier. I think it’s one way some of us cope with the gloomy economy – lots of cheerful lights and decorations! I prefer real trees but since I often travel AND I like to leave my decorations out from Thanksgiving to New Years AND overall it just seems wasteful to kill a tree for a few weeks’ use, I use an artificial tree. I buy a real wreath or garland to get some of that fresh smell (and yes, I know that flies in the face of the Green rationale – workin’ on that!).

With 3 cats, I consider myself awfully lucky that none of them are interested in doing more than giving the tree a “hm, what’s that?” look (especially since I collect German glass ornaments!).

I LOVE those new knitted ornament patterns and ordered them ALL earlier this week. Now I know what to do with all my leftover sock yarn bits and next year I’ll have a tree with knitted ornaments in my office or bedroom (or both).

  27. I vote for real but we have an artificial tree. We always had a real one up to a few years ago. The kids have so many allergies, and unfortunately a real tree triggers them.

I am not a big decorator, the tree a few Christmas knick knacks on the mantle and some lights in the windows. I don’t mind putting it up but I hate taking it down so I have decreased the number of decorations over the years much to the kids dismay.

Love the new yarn color, Still trying to decide what to make with my Burnished Berries

  28. I already did my first RAK for the month yesterday afternoon, and I can’t wait to see what everyone else is doing!

  29. Yup, my daughters boyfriend walked into the house this morning at 6 am and was in awe. He kind of sadly said they are lucky when they get around to putting up a tree at his house…i think he must have spent last xmas at the house with his eyes closed then cause our house isn’t much different! Yup, it threw up xmas here! smile love that new colorway!

  30. The tree must be real! I grew up on a Christmas tree farm, and we still work there on the weekends in December. My grandparents had a Christmas tree farm and my uncle has a tree farm, so it runs in the family. My December crafting is mostly making wreaths, and my sister makes roping. Real evergreens everywhere:)

  31. Real tree! When I was a kid, it went up on Christmas Eve (a clever strategy, I’m now told, to harness our excitement). Now we usually get around to it the Sunday or Monday before Christmas, and leave it up until early January. All I need for Christmas really is the tree and the music.

  32. Artificial. There’s something about putting the tree together that makes me a kid again. I can almost hear my father cussing a blue streak just thinking about it.

Besides, I have absolutely no place in this house where I can safely put up a real tree.

  33. I have vowed that as long as I live in the Pacific Northwest of the USA, I will have a real christmas tree – it’s the christmas tree capital of the world. I grew up with neighbors who had a Christmas tree farm. Why not?

  34. artificial, all the way. i’m not a big fan of pine scents, and the ONE time i had a real tree it was such a PITA that i swore never again.

and idid my random act of kindness on monday, so i’ve been sitting on my hands waiting for friday!

  35. Real tree. No question. I love how it makes the whole house smell like the holidays. I’ve only really had to deal with needles on the day we put it up and the day we took it down.

That and I grew up always having a real tree. I can’t imagine putting up a fake one!

Of course, this is a classic “DPNs, 2 circs or Magic Loop” question. Everyone will have an opinion and they’re all right! 🙂

  36. We have to have artificial in our heat. It is commonly 30C by Christmas, where I live. We sometimes had a real one forty years ago, in my childhood. It was a bit cooler, then. Another global warming thing, I suppose.

  37. As much as I love the real thing, put me in a closed room with a live pine tree and it won’t be pretty. I can’t even handle the scented candles (which I find very weird, it’s not like they use real trees to get the scent), so I have to do a fake tree. We don’t usually put one up when we’re spending Christmas with relatives, but I just need one this year. I think I’ll buy a 3-4 footer, that way I can put it up on a table, away from the cats.

  38. We used to do real but our cats would always pee on the treeskirt or nearby. Yuck. Since we made the switch everything has been fine. I put it up after my daughter’s birthday which is the 7th and I keep it up until after the Epiphany. Sometimes several weeks later. And I keep one Nativity out year around because if it broke in storage, I would be heartbreaking.

  39. Congrats to all the new Loopy Groupies!

When I first moved here there were practically no Christmas decorations of any kind to be seen. It was so depressing! Now it’s become fashionable to decorate the outside of the house and put lights on outdoor trees. Indoor trees, however, are almost always artificial. (The cost of real trees is prohibitive and those fussy Italian housewives don’t want to clean up all the dropped needles!) At home my parents always had a real tree, which was put up the week before Christmas—sometimes on Christmas Eve—and not taken down until after Epiphany. Everyone else in the neighborhood had the tree up the day after Thanksgiving and out on the curb by December 26!

  40. I also grew up with the tradition of the tree going up the week before Christmas and taken down on Epiphany. Once the tree was up, my favorite thing was to turn it’s lights on for breakfast on those dark winter mornings. I’m fond of natural trees, balsam is the very best, when I can find one. This year, I’ll be traveling for Christmas, so I don’t plan to do a tree of my own. I’ll miss it on this side of the holiday, but I won’t miss taking it down.

  41. Artificial. My son’s asthma and allergies aren’t compatible with a live tree. He gets extremely ill with a live tree in the house. His health is more important than any old Christmas tree!

  42. Generally, if we have a tree (and we have multiple religions in the house, so it’s a tree and a menorah usually), it’s a live tree. We have cats who would take down a big tree, plus I grew up being taught to respect the environment too much to cut down a tree. It’s ingrained in me, if you have a tree, it should still be in a pot, and it needs to be planted later. I think this year, we’ll have one of the nice 3ft tall trees, up on the mantle over the fireplace, next to the menorah for Chanukah, since they fall at the same time of the month this year. Stockings at one end, dreidels and the like (when they aren’t being played with) at the other, and presents will end up being put out on Christmas eve and piled on top of the air hockey table like they were last year. We’re somewhat non-traditional around my place, and I love it. 🙂

  43. I vote for real. I am not at my trailer, as the poor thing is still blocked up and not leveled yet, Every time they schedule to get it done it storms. I live in the country.
What i would really like to do is get a Colorado spruce or pondrosa pine or lodgepole pine with roots have it in a pot and then plant it for spring. Well next year.
I also normally do the tree if we have one after Thanksgiving and then leave it up until I take it down. I love the smell of evergreens. so I like t have some in the house yar round if possible. But We did put up the tree at my gf house last night and it looks lvely. We are training the little kitten t leave it alone, you should have seen its eyes when it saw the decoratd tree, just cute. My cat who is boarding here just looked at it and that was it.
I always do RAK so I dont know where to start. But do have mine for the week as well
Welcome to all the new Loopies! ANd i love the clors of the CTH lovely. ANd i am s glad Cascade black is finally restocked I have been waiting forever for it to arrive.

    loveya

  44. We do a real tree. We go out on our farm and pick a tree. They aren’t always the best looking but we love to cut down a tree of our own and decorate them. We decorate with oragami that my DD made and oragami baskets we fill with candy. We also have silver bells hanging fro the windows with cotton picked locally and wild turkey feathers.
