We’ve Got the Spirit … and a CONTEST!

“We’ve got the spirit, yes we do, we’ve got the spirit, how ’bout you?” Remember that cheer from your school days? (Do they still do that one?)  It went back and forth from one team to the other team and eventually degenerated into both sides chanting “we’ve got more, we’ve got more”. Well, we have Team Spirit around here, too.  We have teamed up with Lorna’s Laces to bring you an exclusive line of Team Spirit colorways, for all of your favorite teams – professional teams, little league teams, high school teams, college teams, etc. So many of you have loved our Loopy Ewe red/white colorway (and we keep having to order more), that it got the wheels turning.  We’ll start with team colors for the two baseball teams that reach the World Series (and Lorna’s Laces promises to have it to us within days of finding out which two teams will go), and then we’ll add in many other team colors.  Here’s your job – leave your suggestions for YOUR favorite team colors in the blog comments.  We’ll take suggestions until next Friday, October 10th, and then we’ll randomly draw a winner from all of the comments for a Loopy Ewe gift certificate. Then, we’ll go through and get the most popular two-color combinations into production and have them here asap. Just think of all the people who would love socks/scarves/hats out of their favorite team colors!

Speaking of socks, we have more yarn barreling down on us by the case-full. Yay!  Here’s a sock that I knit up using Sereknity (I knit it this summer while on vacation, but I forgot to share it with you when we received our first order of Sereknity and put it up. It knit up very quickly, making me think that’d I’d do the matching sock right away. But … I haven’t yet. Seemed like I had plenty of time to get it done before sock-wearing weather came back to St. Louis this fall.) I love the yarn base and also thought it was fun the way the stripes swirled up around the ankle.  The colorway is Cowgirl and we do still have a few skeins of that in stock.  There are actually quite a few colors of Heather’s yarn that I love. (It really IS a problem to be surrounded by all of this beautiful yarn, day in and day out, but I know that I will garner no sympathy from any of you.)

Next week’s Sneak Up – fun stuff. We’ll have: Noni Patterns (felted and children’s clothes), Fleece Artist Casbah, Beanie Baggies (including a new red/white one), Creatively Dyed Roving and Luxury Sock, Sanguine Gryphon Silk/Merino Roving, Gales Art Black BFL Roving, Lawre’s Laine bags (new fabrics), Lorna’s Laces Supersock and Roving in Amy’s Vintage Office (the Amy-blend yarn base will be here shortly), Sanguine Gryphon Eidos, Chewy Spaghetti, Scarlet Fleece, and another exclusive colorway from Dream in Color – “Don’t Be Blue” in the Classy weight. (We said we’d keep that colorway in Smooshy exclusive to the Don’t Be Blue Kit people, which we will, but we thought you might like it in Classy for scarves and sweaters. It’s gorgeous!) And coming the week after that (so far) – roving from Zen String and more Harry Potter yarn from Opal.  They’re shipping it to us today.

For your chocolate fix this weekend:

“5 Minutes to Chocolate”

4 Tbl. flour
4 Tbl. sugar
2 Tbl. baking cocoa
1 egg
3 Tbl. milk
3 Tbl. oil
3 Tbl. chocolate chips
dash of vanilla

Add dry ingredients to your favorite large coffee mug and mix well.  Add in egg and mix thoroughly, then add in milk and oil and mix well.  Add chocolate chips and vanilla.

Bake at 3 minutes in the microwave. (The cake may rise up above your mug, but it will back down as it cools.  The blue Loopy Ewe mug – from our Second Anniversary Kit – will allow just enough room on top to add a scoop of ice cream.  You know, if you were so inclined.)

Don’t forget to leave us a comment with your favorite team color combinations. We’re looking forward to getting started on that for you!

  1. Green & Gold for the Packers!!!

Black & Gold for the University of Iowa Hawkeyes!!!

Maroon & Gold for the Lincoln Railsplitters, my old high school!!

  2. I know you are in St. Louis but as a loyal CUBS fan 🙁 I would have to vote for red, white and blue, which of course would serve for a multitude of themes.

Also Chicago Bears colors navy, orange, white.

What about those Nebraska Cornhuskers! Red, White, and I think some black.

I know I love the underdogs!!

    Elise

  3. Forgot to add my son’s school Marquette, Navy and golden yellow!!

My daughter’s school KU can use the Cubbie yarn!

  4. whee!! black and gold–go steelers!! the steeler nation is huge, fiercely loyal, and full of team pride! here we go, steelers, here we go! w00t!

  5. The cardinal and white for BALL STATE UNIVERSITY, my alma matre and David Letterman’s. They’re #25 in the rankings (1st time since the 60s)

    Colts blue and white please.

Black and gold too for Purdue and Arlington High School.

  6. Definitely Garnet & Black (University of South Carolina Gamecocks!)!!

Also, Purple & Gold would be great, too, for my sister’s school!

What a great idea! Thanks for considering our input!!

  7. War Eagle! My favorite college football team are the Auburn tigers! Their colors are NAVY blue and orange, and I know that my mom and brother would love a pair of hand knit team spirit socks!

  8. Blue and Orange for the METS…my husband would love such socks…also grey and maroon for my dd’s high school…thanks!

  9. My favorite team is the Finnish Lions 🙂 Yes, I know, national hockey team might not be what you had in mind, but they are my favorite team and you asked 😀

Our colors are blue and white.
(The perfect yarn would be half white and half blue, but of two different blues – thin dark blue stripes surrounding wider azureblue, skyblue field… about 1/2 white, 1/8 dark blue (not marine, more like navy, clear, dark blue), 1/4 skyblue, 1/8 dark blue.

  10. Black and white – because I want to make leggings for my granddaughter and cannot find black (fine weight) yarn at LYS.

  11. How fun, Sheri! You’ve got the whole blog rockin’ with spirit. I loved my high school red and white then and I love it now and that’s covered. Univ of Virginia orange and blue was never all that palatable, so let’s just forget that one. For the men in my family: My bil is a BIG Tampa Bay Bucs fan, and finding anything remotely resembling their burnt orange and black colorway is nigh impossible. My husband lives and dies (i.e., dies) every year with the Oakland As–so green and gold and white would make him a nice knitted shroud. We got the spirit!

  12. Black, gray, & gold – United States Military Academy (West Point)
Blue & White – Duke University “Blue Devils”
Blue & Gold – Emory University
Crimson & Cream – University of Oklahoma
Orange & Black – Oklahoma State University
Rose & Gray – Vassar College (when it was all women)

  13. Carolina Blue and White for UNC
Maroon and Orange for Virginia Tech

Can’t wait to see what combinations get made 🙂

  14. Black and Gold for the Pittsburgh Steelers, of course.

The NFL spent a ton of money trying to figure out how to get women interested in pro football. What they found out was that Pittsburgh Steeler female fans out numbered ANY other team 2 to 1.

Sounds like more knitters to me as well 😉

  15. Well, I live on the Illinois side of the river, and my husband went to U of I, so I have to say orange and blue. (My college colors are red and silver, but wouldn’t that just be a loopy color way?)

    Lisa Kay

  16. My son attends South High in Anchorage, AK and their colors are black & gold so I vote for SAHS colors: Black & Gold.

Thank you! The recipe looks great. Single serving, how cool!

  17. For my husband & younger daughter, garnet & black. Garnet is sort of a cross between maroon & burgundy, but definitely not red/crimson! And for my older daughter, purple & gold. For me? I’m happy if they’re happy! But I’ll wear the garnet & black, too, since my husband loves to go to every single sporting event he can!! Thanks! 🙂

  18. Arizona State University – maroon and gold
University of Michigan – blue and maize
University of Nebraska – red and white

  19. I’d love to see OSU colors (scarlet and grey). I really want to make a pair of OSU socks for my brother-in-law for Christmas. The only sock yarn I’ve found with it is Claudia Handpaints and they are not machine washable so I’m sure my sister would make short work of them the first time they had to be washed. Plus I love Lorna’s Laces!

  20. Well, my high school colors were black and gold and that also seems to be popular. I did go to Stephens College and enjoyed the Missouri games so that’s black and gold again. BUT, where is BAMA? Our colors are Crimson and White, not red and white. ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not to mention the Cowboys blue and silver. I also love the Packers green and gold.

    Ann in Dallas

  21. I echo the singular request made by Dana, Gen, Crystal, Tammy, and Monet for The University of Tennessee Orange and White. There are thousands of Tennessee fans scattered across the country, not to mention the 107,000 in the stadium on Saturdays, who would kill to be able to find our unique shade of orange (think cantaloupe or mango – a yellow orange) in a sock (or any other weight) yarn.

While the Vols are hugely popular, I can’t forget the Lady Vols, reigning NCAA basketball champions (yeah Candace Parker!!!). The Lady Vols colors add a light sky blue to the orange and white.

From one who has been bleeding orange for 40+ years… Go Vols!!! Go Lady Vols!!!

  22. Purple and Gold was James Madison University (Madison College when I went).

Green and White was my high school, no longer a school at all, Ft. Hunt High School.

    Thanks for another great contest!

  23. What about colours for provinces and states? ie.: green and yellow for Saskatchewan, blue, white and green for Labrador?

  24. I vote for black and gold – Steelers
Nearly navy and White – PSU
    Gold and Navy – Pitt
Dark blue and Orange – Chicago Bears

    yes, my family “split” –

BTW – the chocolate looks yummy!
