Randomness Day

Random #1: With the whole Loopy move, I also got a new computer. I had to wait until last weekend because Mac came out with a new system, but now I have it. There are good and bad things about this.

DSC01327Good: bigger screen
Bad: things had to be transferred over and new systems/files/folders had to be set up.
Good: Web Guy was here to take care of it.
Bad: I have a sneaking suspicion that I lost some emails in the process.
Weird: Look at this new wireless keyboard that goes with it.
Even Weirder: I like it and it’s easy to type on.

DSC01328Random #2: I have this shelf in my office and I love having all of my cute WoolPets in once place. (Of course I had to have a Loopy, and also a Louise (Loopy’s big sister) and a Bart (Loopy’s no-good brother, the black sheep of the family.) Also, Loopy in his Halloween costume. I’m a bit addicted to Laurie’s adorable WoolPets. (We did get more of the Loopy kits in stock, if you haven’t made one yet.) Also, you need to keep an eye on her etsy shop, as there are several other cute critters that she has available. As for the yarn on my shelf – this is the “fall” display. My current three favorite Fall colorways: J.Knits Reno, Sheepaints Autumn Forest, and Numma Numma Baba Ganoush. I love them all. (I also like having a spot to display a few skeins at a time.)

gracieRandom #3: Gracie is hyper. Truly, she is such a crazy cat. She looks as sweet as can be, and she will lay in your arms and purr louder than a truck as long as you want to hold her, but the minute you put her down, she’s going 90 miles an hour and swatting everything in her path. I have never seen a cat who liked to PLAY so much. This toy – which I went back and forth about, because really, does one need to spend money on yet another cat toy? – is worth its weight in gold. She will play with this thing forever. We have to put it up at night because she drives us nuts with it. I may have finally taught her that she doesn’t need to attack Zoe every time Zoe walks by. (“Oooh – big cat play toy!”) I did not teach her to avoid the dog, but she took care of that all by herself. One loud hiss and a major swipe with claws extended, and I think Casey will carefully avoid that one the rest of her life.

Lucy pic for SheriRandom #4: I’m going on a knitting weekend. (I know -doesn’t it seem like I just did that?? Don’t bring that up to WH, please.) I’m going to spend the night Thursday night with this cute cat (and I’m sure she is a bit more laid back than Gracie the Kamikaze) and then we’re driving up to a retreat place in VA for a weekend of knitting with a few friends. I think I’m going to learn to spin. That’s a very bad thing. I know I will like it. I have no time for spinning in my life at the moment. But I’m going to learn anyway. I think I’m nuts.

Random #5: Next week we’ll have more fun things for you. So far, new J.Knits, a fresh batch of Scarlet Fleece, more Chewy Spaghetti fingering, 8 big boxes of Dream in Color, brand new lace yarn from Zen String, and we’ll see what else arrives in the meantime. I can’t wait for you to see some of the cool things we have on order, which are arriving any time!

Random #6: Yes, it IS time for the next Sock Club installment! However, we’re waiting on the last item for the package to arrive. As soon as it gets here, we’ll get them packed and shipped. Watch for your Sock Club invoices in your email around the end of next week. (And because I know you’ll ask – our Sock Club is full, but we’ll have signups for 2008 in mid-January. I’ll pre-announce it on the blog and in our monthly customer email newsletter, so you’ll know when sign-ups are open again!)

Before I take off for the weekend, I wanted to announce the October Blog contest winner. Jen wins a $25 gift certificate to The Loopy Ewe! Thanks so much for all of your wonderful comments, which I have loved reading. We’ll have another fun contest in November!

(edited: ok – working on getting the photos back.Β  Check in tomorrow! Dumb computers……..)

  1. I cannot see the pictures (but can imagine they are very cute). I’m very excited about your sock club. Decided to pass on STR…to see if I can get on yours πŸ™‚ I’m a Loopy Groupie now!! Makes me happy. πŸ™‚
Hope you have a great time kniting this weekend.

  2. No pictures here in NJ either….we want the photos! πŸ™ Bring back the old computer, Sheri! Good-bye STR sock club for 2008….Hello Loopy Ewe Sock club
    F-O-R-E-V-E-R!!!

  3. Pacific NW is not receiving pictures either.
I just placed an order the last sneak up and used my winnings from the Loopy on vacation Contest. I’m the one with the crab picture!
Thank you to everyone that voted for my picture.
Sheri, thanks for having such fun contests and for being so generous.

  4. And, I thought my computer was broken because I couldn’t see the pics…but I’m sure they’ll eventually appear, so wait patiently, I will…

Have fun on your knitting weekend! In VA? That’s in my neck of the woods! Must remember to research that for future reference for myself…

I can’t wait for the next installment of the sock club – and hope I’ll be able to get in next year – its so much fun!! : )

  5. Pictures not showing in Toronto.

We had a very hyper kitten like that once, he mellowed eventually… but I think my great aunt’s hearing is still damaged from when Nonna screamed in her ear on the phone as the cat zoomed by her head (he liked to bounce off walls and furniture and Nonna was scared of him at the best of times….)

Have fun on the knitting weekend.

  6. No pictures here, but what fun news! πŸ™‚

Have a blast in VA – it’s such a nice area (I feel comfortable saying that, given that I’m in Maryland). Happy Halloween!

  7. Hi there! I was going to email you earlier today to tell you that I couldn’t see the posts from the Loopy Tour post (which was weird because I had been able to see them earlier) and now I can’t see these photos either! Hmmm…ghosts and goblins at work at your site?! And can I just say again how much I love your blog!!!! Of course I’m severely envious of the knitting weekend….

  8. Aww, no pics πŸ™ Just wanted to let you know that I’ve been bringing my Loopy Groupie tote to university and I’m having random people who know nothing about the Loopy Ewe oo and ah over it. I totally heart it myself πŸ™‚

  9. Thank you so much Sheri! I’ll keep my eyes peeled and my mind sharp for the next Sneak Up. πŸ˜‰

Again…thank you thank you thank you!

  10. glad it wasn’t just me with the pictures 😐

have a great kniting weekend and I think I know where you may be heading due to a post on another blog πŸ™‚ Will you teach me to spin after learning from ??????? (I won’t spill the beans)

  11. I just read another blog…I think I figured out where Sheri is going … well, the cat mention also gave it away. Oh, I can’t see photos in PA either…have fun on the East Coast!

  12. Inquiring minds want to know: If I order Numma Numma, which color will I receive? I love the Baba Ganoush, but like one skein better than the other. Are the two skeins pictured to show the possible grab-bag range of colors?

  13. Have fun learning to spin! Does this means Loopy rovings are in our future? πŸ™‚ I understand what you’re going through with the kitten. As I type this, my 6 month old kitten, Purl is making me multitask and play fetch with her. She never seems to tire of chasing her puffball and bringing it back to me. I apparently adopted a puppy-cat.
    Have a great weekend!

  14. You head into my back yard just as I head southeast for some beach time. I’ll be running my own, personal knitting retreat on the back deck, weather permitting.

Enjoy the retreat! The leaves are past peak, but they weren’t so great this year anyway.

  15. Boy, you that’s so odd—I read Wendy’s blog and found out she has a special weekend planned and then I found moved on to your blog and found out that you have a special knitting weekend planned and thought, hey wait a minute…… Hope you guys have a great time! And have fun learning to spin. It sounds like you’ll have a wonderful teacher.

  16. Oooooooh Sheri, you are so very lucky to be meeting Lucy tmrw πŸ™‚ Have a wonderful weekend, you deserve a retreat after all the moving hijinx of the last 2 weeks. I started spinning 3 months ago and my new Lendrum wheel came to live with us last Friday – you’re going to love it but it’s going to be big trouble (in a good way) trust me!

By the way, as you may have guessed, no pics here in Winnipeg either.

  17. Sounds like your Gracey is being a lovely young cat. Love her attitude/enthusiasm.

Have a lovely time, and give the much-beloved Lucy a chin scritch for me.

  18. Boy, you’ve got smart readers. πŸ™‚

Lucy is so excited to meet you tomorrow — I don’t know if I’ll ever get her to settle down and go to bed tonight.

  19. You are going to have just the best week end!!! I thought that was Lucy in that picture! Gracie is a sweety for sure. My Siamese will do those kind of things and she howls in the process. We have a “toy Basket” for all their play things. Cats need variety! You have fun and look forward to all the news when you return.

  20. Ooh, you’re going to meet Lucy! I’m jealous!

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend. It sounds great!

  21. LOVE the cat toy! We have one that’s sort of like that but that one might attract all three of our cats. I just got the catalog from that store and that’s where I’ll do the kitty Christmas shopping! (Oh…you should try this! One of my cats apparently LOVES LOVES LOVES the scent of coffee beans! Go figure. When I had a candle set in them she kept digging them out and playing with them. So…I knit a mouse and stuffed it with coffee beans. Her absolute favorite toy!)

  22. LOL–I love hyper kitties! Gracie sure is a cutey pie. Have a good and relaxing time on your retreat. you deserve a rest after moving–that’s a lot of work and stress.
    Smiles!

  23. I couldn’t see the pictures earlier today either…but now they are back. Have a lovely weekend with Wendy and Lucy (and bring back some more tow-up patterns if she’ll part with any :))!

    Love the Sheepaints…but I missed out…

  24. I love how Gracie doesn’t even look at all innocent in that picture–she looks like she’s going to attack you in another 10 seconds.

Once you learn to spin, it’ll be no time at all before you’re filling those empty shelves up with roving. The spinners out there are probably cackling maniacally as they read. But I’m not a spinner, so I’m just guessing.

  25. Yeah! a new computer! I am going to start showing/telling my son how College Guy comes home on his breaks and well that moms like it alot, that that’s what you do when you go away to college…Ah, I think you’ll like the spinning, maybe you’ll make a spot at LE for some rovings, spindles, and all that good spinning stuff. HAVE A GREAT knitting weekend!

  26. No time for spinning—yeah, yeah, I’ve heard that one before! I don’t know if I’m more jealous that you’re going to learn to spin or that you’re going to meet Lucy (and Lucy’s Momma, of course)!

    Have a great weekend!

  27. Have a great time! I suppose you’ll be sworn to secrecy on the actual size of your hostess’s stash :-).

(A late happy: I’ve just found out that a chunk of my son’s dental work that I’d been told the insurance wasn’t going to cover might end up being covered after all. If that turns out to be the case….you’ll find out next week ;-).) (Maybe I’d better do a lot of sock knitting this weekend, just in case….)

  28. I got the photos just fine-I’m using an iMac and am anxiously awaiting my new Leopard operating system which will be here next week.
Knitting weekend-think I’ll start today!! Have a great time! Looking forward to seeing what you knit.
Spinning seems fun, but then I’d have to PLY and am not sure what that means. I think I’ll start by dyeing yarn, and see how that goes. Love the yarn display. I think I’ll copy it with my stash!!

  29. Pic’s coming thru just fine. I’m at work on a PC; my iMac is at home. Running TIger, holding off on upgrading to Leopard for now. …Envious of the retreat you’re going on.- Have a great time w/Wendy, & give Lucy some skritches for/from me. (I knew that’s who you meant as soon as I saw Lucy’s pic, before I checked the link.) …Looking forward to the Dream In Color – it’s like the Charmin of yarn! You just want to hold it, pet it, & squeeze it!

  30. Have a marvelous time. Total envy over here. I’m sure you’ll let us know how the spinning goes. That is something I don’t dare try for one reason—I’ll love it!

  31. I remember when my Paddy was a kitten. He was rather hyper, too. In fact, he still is from time to time, thinks he’s Seabiscuit reincarnated, but that’s a different story. Anyway, when he was a kitten, he was scratching EVERYTHING, so we got him one of those box scratcher thingies, you know, the corrugated cardboard? It has catnip in it. I do not recommend catnip for 15 week old kittens. BAD mix. Or good, if you like to watch cats bounce off the walls like Ricochet Rabbit. πŸ˜‰

    Have fun on your trip!

  32. You’re doomed. Spinning and then fibers will suck you in so fast that WH will figure he might as well have kept the shop in the house for all the extra room he got out of the deal. Well, ok, probably you have better self control than I do and probably you’ll spin more than I do so that won’t be the case for you. But it is wonderful fun. You’ll love it.

The new computer will please you by being faster I expect. I love the idea of a wireless keyboard. I’m hoping to be able to upgrade myself within the next year or so.

Have a good time on your weekend. Don’t forget to post a photo of your first handspun when you get back so we can all ooh and ahh over it.

  33. Hey, I’ve been thinking about getting a Mac for work. I’ve always been a PC gal but the latest models are intriguing.

I can’t wait to see the Winter Sock yarn. Is it dark, full of jewels, or it is wintery with shades of white and gray shot through with a brigh? Enquiring minds are full of anticipation…heehee!

Have a great time with this weekend. After getting your new space Loopified, you deserve a restul and fun time.

  34. Have a great time with Lucy and Wendy in Virginia! Yes, learning to spin when you don’t have time is bad, very bad. Because it’s also addictive! On the other hand, suppose you didn’t learn and wanted to for the rest of your life and you didn’t get to do it? Yep – hands down NOW is the time to do it. Everything else sort of falls into place. Now I’ll wait and see if/when you bring a wheel home!

  35. The new Macs are marvelous! Finally installed the new OS a couple of days ago, and it feels zippier on both of my Macs.

Spinning! Oh, my. You will be hooked, just like the rest of us. I picked up my Majacraft Rose 2 weeks ago, and it was love at first spin. I’m working on some biffle at the moment that is going to be socks, probably Wendy’s Garden Path pattern. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), my fiber stash is starting to resemble my yarn stash. And there are so many beautiful fibers to spin! Just remember, spinning is like yoga. Very relaxing. You need to spin to get rid of stress.

  36. Tried to post a comment twice yesterday but the crazy thing wouldn’t let me, Glad to see there are photos now.
Have a lot of fun. I don’t think those bears will be a problem you will have sharp, pointy sticks after all. Maybe Gracie needs to come along and keep them away from you..
    Have a great weekend.
