I’m a big fan of Etsy. I have found many of our wonderful indie dyers over there. And I do love shopping there quite a bit, too. Since I know (I KNOW!) that all of you just spent all of your money over here in the early morning Sneak Up, I thought it’d be safe to post some fun etsy sites without being accused of trying to get you to spend more money. 🙂 These aren’t yarn sites – but some are related to knitting, and some not. Imagine my surprise when this cute penny rug showed up (who sent this to me? It’s wonderful – thank you so much!)

Since it was bill-paying day (see Monday’s post) and since I needed some diversions to keep me from bill-paying for awhile, I clicked around on other Etsy sites.
This cracked me up:

What are some of your favorite Etsy shops – not yarn, but other fun things? I have a whole “favorites” section dedicated to etsy in my bookmarks.
A quick yarn update – I did the Sneak Up at 3:30 am this morning, just so the Wollmeise would still be available mid-morning for everyone. Well. It was STILL gone by just after 8 am. (Claudia – we love love love your yarn!) Remember, we’re getting more in August and as often as we can after that (hopefully monthly). Sooner or later, I’m hoping we’ll actually be able to keep it in stock. Later, I guess.
Many of you have asked about Dream in Color. It turns out they are going to be able to ship our next order to us tomorrow after all! So – watch for more Dream in Color next week. Yay!
Back to packing orders……..

I love Etsy, try to support the dealers whenever they have what I want, I love Loopy Ewe…the sneakups are terrific and I have been lucky enough to get in on afew as I am a night worker. The times I couldn’t get in, sleep, vacation whatever…I said aw and then went on knowing the yarns that could be resocked would be restocked. I,for one, know I have plenty of other yarn to keep me busy til the next buying binge occurs. Honestly the only time missing a sneak up or particular yarn has been when i was eyeing something to include in a swap package or as a gift. I think limiting people’s skein allowance even on new yarn is a little extreme…I have been eyeing Yarntini for months now, managed to get a skein or two from Etsy way back, actually may have been my first Etsy purchase, lol. I have yet to knit that yarn. I check Etsy and LE routinely to see if there is any available. Just a part of my daily routine now.
Thanks Sheri and family for the terrific job you do, the amazing yarns you continue to offer, the dyers and spinners you support and always evident concern for your customer satisfaction.

One of my favorite Etsy sites is http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5028856. This is true innovation to me. Colored pencil art! Brilliant! And her customer service is amazing as well.
Well, the Sneak Up timing meant the East Coast could grab everything. But fair is fair, as an earlier commenter pointed out. I was crushed not to score Wollmeise! But I really, really need a hiatus from buying yarn so I think it was a blessing in disguise. So happy to see that you have Spritely Goods! I can’t believe two of my favorite colors are left…Chaparral and Spring is Here! But, I already have those stashed so I am safe!!!!
(And why am I trying to buy wool when we are now at almost 25 days above 110? We only average ten of those days a year.) But those Maruca bags too…WOW!!!!
Sorry I missed the “huge sneak up” , I will try to be first in line in August for Claudia’s yarn (it is really wondeful), to see the range of colour sneak over to her website and take a look.

Thanks Sheri, I did sneak over and pick up Bob the Sheep, he was to much to resist.
I am going to post my knee high Gryffindor socks (LL Flames) on the blog today and also in the photo album, as well as a picture of Loopy and a very special little friend.
Sheri, thank you for what you do… you put your all into it and that is what keeps me coming back for more (whether to lurk or buy).
Thank you!
I love Daisycakes Soaps on etsy. Their soaps are terrific and they send along little goodies (where have I seen that before?). My last order had and little chai tea soap shaped like a china teacup and saucer.

(Hope this gets through. Tried twice yesterday and posting seemed to work but didn’t. Safari is being a brat. Trying with Camino.)
Well, I have to agree that the staggering of the updates keeps me on my toes. I had my first cart-jumper this sneak-up. I had a beautiful skein of Wollemeise in black and red, and it jumped after I had put in my credit card information and pushed order (and not to brag, but I don’t waste time when it comes to getting those numbers typed out and hitting order.) But I managed to get a skien in another colorway. My mistake was scrolling through the what’s new, and not just going to the search by vendor because the update this time was so huge the Wollemeise was not even in the what’s new pages.
To secure a skein, I had to get up when the boy got up to take the dog out, and of course wait for him to leave the apartment before I was able to get the loopy ewe up on the computer, because if he had seen my yarn feeding frenzy (knowing how monumental the stash is already) it would have been embarassing. And still I had a cart jumper, and half of the colorways were already sold out.
As far as the one or two skein limit… maybe I am wrong, but I don’t think anyone is stockpiling any particular yarn in a single colorway. Maybe collecting them all by a particular dyer (Dream in Color is so incredible it is on its way to becming a scarf from Victorian Lace Today. I could collect all of the colorways like people collected beanie babies in 1996)… Anyway, I think it’s just a lot of us trying to get our knitterly mitts on the yarn, and not so much a few people getting their mitts on a lot of yarn.
Maybe next time when a sneak up is imminent, I will just load up on coffee and hit refresh all night…
People, people, people! It’s not the end of the knitting world that you didn’t get Wollmeise this time! It will be back.
I thinking limiting the skein number of a “new” yarn is ridiculous. First, the coding for Web Guy would be unthinkable, and second, limiting the number isn’t going to help if you aren’t on your computer as the 25th or 50th or whatever person. There are many, many people shopping at TLE, and a set number of skeins of every yarn, for every sneak up! Thirdly, the nature of commerce, capitalism and competitive shopping means that not everyone gets what they want. There will be other chances, you can be sure. If Sheri can make it happern, she will.
I think Sheri is to be commended for getting up in the wee hours of the morning to do this sneak up. By staggering the sneak up times, everyone gets a chance eventually.
Sheri and her family are providing us with the best in sock & lace yarrn, needles, patterns and goodies, and the best in customer service. They support indie dyers and allow us to see, and sometimes buy, unique yarns. Yippee for that, and kudos to all of the family. Keep up the most excellent work!
The other thought I had would be to do 1/2 updates, 12 hours apart. It wouldn’t be much more work than a sneak-up already is, and would eliminate some of the time zone complaints. Or just updating as things come in, but that may not be as easy for you, Sheri. Just some ideas that are rattling around in my skull.
And Tigger’s Mom, if you read the above posts carefully, you’ll see that no one is falling down and having fits. We all KNOW that it is just yarn. I don’t think it’s ridiculous to suggest some ways to make the shopping experience at TLE smoother for more customers, and no one would even think of criticizing Sheri. We all love her and appreciate what she does!

I forgot to take Loopy on vacation last week, but she said that was ok; she enjoyed a little peace and quiet.
Thanks for all you do Sheri! The Loopy Ewe is the best!!
Dear knitters and Sheri,
I´m overwhelmed about these sneak up, your comments and your lovely welcome for my yarn, thank you so much! I hope you are not disappointed from my yarn, I´m only a little German hand dyer and you have such great stuff in the US. Sheri and I can´t know what will happen (right Sheri?), please be indulgent. You know she try always her best :-).
Exotic greetings (means my exotic terrible grammar ;-))
Claudia
Last I checked, we didn’t put in our URLs so that people could continue to express their ideas on a free market economy in our totally unrelated blog posts.
I think this belongs here:
Bronwyn has left a new comment on your post “Everyone wants to be up on Ravelry”:
Hi Melissa, I came through the loopy ewe. I just wanted to clarify that it’s not one person buying all of one colorway… think of it this way: A shop gets 10 colors, 10 skeins of each. If 10 people each buy 1 of each colorway, that is all 100 skeins, gone. And Sheri has WAY more than 10 customers, and I know some of them buy many colorways of new yarns at one time (Dream in Color, for example.) This is what I would like to see limited in the future, not because I am just such a whiny baby (I really don’t even care about the yarn! I have plenty!) but because Sheri has so, so many customers who only want 1 or 2, but because a few people buy many or wants, you have far more unhappy than happy people.
I hope it makes more sense now, whether you agree or not. 🙂
I loove Etsy and I sell hand dyed sock yarn there too (thefuzzypeach.etsy.com) and I have a problem with not spending my profits on other’s sock yarns. I love!! Laughing Rat (she has a sale on even!) and handspun on snowmoon3. I also loveLoneStarArts for their daring names of colors, a purple/blue/black called shiner! Oh and mpatrizio for VERY cute stationary.
And as I’m broke right now, awating the start of my first teaching job next week, I’m one who is very happy that all the good stuff was gone before I knew it was there. It saved me the greif of seeing it and knowing I can’t buy it! 😛 Silly I know, but I have to keep my sanity by rationalizing things. 😀
