Sending Loopy Love 2017 (and a CONTEST!)

Last year we had so much fun sending out Loopy Boxes of Love to some really deserving people. We asked you to nominate someone who could use a spot of cheer for the holiday season, who maybe could not afford a Loopy Box of their own. And we were snowed under with responses! We sent out lots and lots of wonderful boxes of love. Here are a few of them, waiting to be picked up by the post office last year:

We want to do that again this year, and we need your help again. Let us know who you think needs a box of love right about now. Email us (support@theloopyewe.com) by this Saturday, the 16th. Please include the person’s name and address, why you think they would be a good person to get a Box of Love, and whether they are a knitter or a sewist. We’ll gather all of the nominations, will pick some to send to, and then we’ll get these boxes shipped out next Monday. (We wish we could send a box to everyone that is nominated, but of course we can’t. However, we’ll do as many as we can.) Just a reminder – this costs you nothing. We are paying for the shipping and some of the contents, and we have companies who have donated things to us over the past year that we’ll be including in the boxes or packages. So who do you know that needs a box of Loopy Love right about now?

Thank you for helping us carry out this Random Act of Kindness again this year! We’d also like to share a Loopy Box of Fun with one of you. To enter the contest, leave a comment below. Tell us anything you’d like to share with us this December (what you’re working on, what you want for Christmas, your favorite holiday treat, the temperature in your town, what you are going to knit or quilt in January – anything you want to tell us.) We’ll send out the contest winner’s box next week, too!

  1. Three projects lined up for next Jan. Drachenfels and Solaris shawls, and spinning up a pound of Sweet Georgia roving for a sweater!

  2. After spending much of the last 6 months knitting things for a lot of the people in my life, I am finally sitting down and making a scarf for my holiday trip to Victoria. I can hardly wait to see the holiday lights in Butchart Gardens and breathe air that is crisp and cold!

Thank you Loopy Ewe for providing me many, many, many hours of crafting and gifts to friends and family.

  3. My friend, Dianne, just had surgery for breast cancer. She is being very brave as she waits to hear from the oncologist. I would love for her to have a surprise this Christmas besides the one she is dealing with. Both of us are quilters. Presently I am working on a Hawaiian Applique quilt and finishing up thre quilts that I am giving as gifts.

  4. I’m busy hosting a party for work, getting presents, and cooking food. I’m also making a set of hats, mittens and scarves for my daughters.

  5. starting three identical shawls for the 3 girls who stuck with choir all the way through: my daughter and friend 1 from 4th to 12th, and friend 2 who was at a different elementary, so 6th-12th.

  6. thanks for the giveaway opp. I just finished up the Fractal using the Blue Moon special Christmas colorway from 2 years ago – YEAH YEAH I know but I kept putting it away after Christmas – anyway it’s done and I love it ! No idea what I want to start next but I definitely need to finish up my Camp Loopy 3 project that got shelved because I was depressed because I didn’t finish. It’s 57 here in the deep south which is quite cool for 4:55pm Cheers and Merry Christmas all – Mel

  7. I am trying to finish three balaclavas, one cowl, one shawl, assorted tiny “gifties” and get ready to host the extended family on Christmas Eve. Suspect I’ll be doing good to be ready to host come Christmas Eve!

  8. I’ve been doing clothes sewing for grandkids recently and while I love it, I also can’t wait to get back to both my quilting and knitting.

  9. I have loved going to the Strip Club meetings and have even pushed myself to make presents for family. I am loving getting back into sewing!

  10. It looks like it will be a warm day for Christmas, but not super hot! We will probably do a roast leg of lamb, even though it is a hot day. We are silly, and follow the Northern Hemisphere traditions instead of cooking the shrimps on the Barbie. But we will have some Pink Bubbly, that is a certainty! I will be thinking of all my family in the USA and my friends there, too, and try hard not to miss everyone so much!

  11. Honestly knitting is very far down the list this year this month, but I am finishing up my third Wonder Woman Wrap for a friend for her sister for Christmas. I’ll be able to get back to my stuff in January, my WIP list (admitted WIP list) is only about 20 items long… Lawdy I put a number on it…

  12. For December, I have only the blocking left on my Mom’s Aperture Shawl for Christmas. It’s an extra-special hug for her as we celebrate our first Christmas without my Dad and her hubby of 65-1/2 yrs.

I am halfway finished with a Lilli Pilli for my niece that won’t make it under the tree for Dec 25, but it will be a great no-later-than-Valentines present.
For me, I have a Lamina Wrap and Bambara Shawl that are waiting for “all for me” knitting time in Jan/Feb and 2018 will finally be my year to learn to knit socks two-at-a-time, two up via Magic Loop.

  13. Oh wow! I am working on my homework as Summer in Oz school, even though I know classes are dismissed for first semester soon. So I will be crocheting a shawl with the beautiful yarn I bought during your Autumn. And I am planning some tote bags in the Basic Grey as well as my Holtz stash from TLE. It’s Summer Holiday/Christmas this year and my chance to knit and sew without interruption. Heaven! Merry Christmas to all the Loopies.

  14. I’m so looking forward to the new year & (hopefully) having more knitting time. Fingers crossed that I get a year full of yarn & new projects. This year was a slow knitting year for me, & I’ve missed it!

  15. My friend Iona needs a box of love! She works at the post office call center and has been working 12 hrs a day for the holiday season. She will even work 12 hrs on Xmas eve. If that wasn’t enough, she fractured her ankle last week. 🙁 She loves knitting and needs to put her feet up and relax with some yarn. Thank you 🙂

  16. Knitted five hats for great nieces and nephews, a sweater for a one year old, a poncho for a friend who is retiring and now a scarf for me. Yippee!

  17. It has been mid 40s during the day and low 20s at night here for the past 5-6 days. Perfect knitting weather if I could get in the mood! Hope to finish the 2 pairs of socks on the needles by the end of the year. I need to get one pair far enough along before Christmas so it can be tried on by those size 13 feet that carry my nephew around.

  18. Sheri and Elves…you are the best! This is just one more reason why. Thanks for another fun filled year of knitting and stitching! Looking forward to finishing academy next semester and surprises you have in store!

  19. As always the fun The Loopy Ewe creates for their customers is amazing. Summer camp ROCKS and the academy is challenging and creative. Please continue your amazing camps, academies and mixers plus anyother great ideas!
    Merry Christmas!

  20. I’ll be ringing in the New Year the way I usually do…by starting a shawl project! This year it’s Chittagong by Ann Weaver. That’s been in my queue a long time!

Looking forward to the challenges for the last semester of Loopy Academy!

  21. As with every Christmas season, I spend every spare second I can knitting up gifts for my loved ones! This year: cabled hats! Made hats for my brother and sister already, and now I am working on one for my new niece. I got married this year, so I am now a lucky auntie of an 8 year old!

  22. Need to get back to my knitting. Oh, how I miss it! Have had everything packed up for a pending move that has been delayed. So as soon as I find my needles and yarn, I’ll be back at it!

  23. We have freezing fog here for I can’t remember how many days. Getting ready to travel for Christmas sometime next week. We will be through Fort Collins on our way home after Christmas, perhaps when Loopy Central is open.

  24. Working on a crocheted Adventure Time graphgan for my sister and other crafty items for Christmas!! Can’t wait until January for the TwoHearts solar system blanket CAL!

  25. Love all the new Indie Dyer selections added in this year. I’m slowly working my way through trying some yarn from each!

  26. I love it to pieces that you send out boxes of Love to people at Christmas like this. You have got to be some special kind of people to think of others and do the extra work for these special gifts during what is probably a really incredibly busy time of year for your business!

  27. I am a crocheter who is excited to start new projects come January! I’ve got to finish the 3 I’m working on currently, before Christmas! It’s always fun at the beginning of a new year to just sit down and make anything you feel like making. I have a beautiful skein of Lorna Laces that has a lovely scarf ready to be made from it.

  28. We have a lite dusting of snow today which gets me in the mood to finish baking my cranberry almond biscotti and drizzle them with white chocolate after they cool. Like so many, I have been busy knitting mittens and socks for gifts and am looking forward to finishing my Sonora Shawl after Christmas. Merry Christmas everyone!

  29. Just finished graduate school! In celebration, I’ve casted on a match and move shawl and a hat… And I’m eyeing all the yarn…

  30. This year Christmas is my time to stop and pause from a whirlwind year. I plan a quiet Christmas with lots of knitting and time for reflection. I am looking forward to the pause button so very much!

  31. You guys are awesome. I love this idea and it warms my heart that you’re doing this. I ordered some goodies from you last week and I cannot wait to do some knitting when it arrives Tuesday. Thanks and Happy Holidays!

  32. I am so grateful for Loopy Academy. My son was in Boot Camp during the Holidays for Freshman year and it kept me busy. We are going on our fourth year of him not being home for the holidays and that darn entralac is keeping me from missing him – too much…..

  33. Since December 22nd is my birthday, I’d like to be knitting myself a new scarf and hat for winter with a fun new yarn and pattern.

Cold and windy in Wyoming! Need to stay warm and inside.

Time for relaxing with yarn or I could start a new quilt. Yep, I sew too! That’s why I love Loopy Ewe. All I want is there!

  34. I’m currently working on a Cowl for my mom. In January I’m hoping to knit some preemie hats for local hospitals and an Audre Shawl for myself.

  35. My favorite treat (other than yarny loveliness) is a bubble bath with knitting podcasts and some candles. Ahhhhh 🙂

  36. It’s my goal to be pleasant, kind and thankful to •anyone• working •anywhere• that I encounter at any time during this holiday season. I am almost always friendly but sometimes I just am not paying much attention to someone helping me in a store or restaurant. I want to be sure that they know how much I appreciate their efforts during a time of year when it’s easy to get caught up in the moment. (Your kindness is much appreciated!)

  37. I think I’m going to continue knitting Christmas things after Christmas just because I love the santas, elves and snowmen.

  38. Knitting: I’m making 6 sets of baa-ble mittens to surprise gift to some friends

RAK: putting together some little “lunch bags” to hand out to the homeless. Each bag has some granola bars, peanut butter crackers, a tangerine, gloves, chapstick & a $5 McDonalds gift card. Each day on my drive to work, there are at least 3 or 4 people that are panhandling on corners & look like they could use a little helping hand.

  39. Hi! Thanks for doing this! That’s really nice! Im excited to be finishing up my holiday knitted gifts Starting in January, I’m going to try to finish a Bohus colorwork sweater that I started a year ago lol.

  40. This week snow has hit my area. And I have had to shovel the snow a few times. My plan is start working on a few cowls. If I got to shovel this stuff and be in the cold I might as well be warm. I told my mom and said knowing my luck we willl get a heat wave after I make them. My mom said do it do it;)

  41. Got 2 more days at work then looking forward to a good break and getting some knitting and sewing in. Currently need to finish the rocky coast cardigan which just needs sleeves and have a few sewing projects to start

  42. Hi Y’all! I’m looking forward to spending time with family and friends. One of our favorite activities is driving around looking at Christmas lights.

Hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!
