Sending Loopy Love 2017 (and a CONTEST!)

Last year we had so much fun sending out Loopy Boxes of Love to some really deserving people. We asked you to nominate someone who could use a spot of cheer for the holiday season, who maybe could not afford a Loopy Box of their own. And we were snowed under with responses! We sent out lots and lots of wonderful boxes of love. Here are a few of them, waiting to be picked up by the post office last year:

We want to do that again this year, and we need your help again. Let us know who you think needs a box of love right about now. Email us (support@theloopyewe.com) by this Saturday, the 16th. Please include the person’s name and address, why you think they would be a good person to get a Box of Love, and whether they are a knitter or a sewist. We’ll gather all of the nominations, will pick some to send to, and then we’ll get these boxes shipped out next Monday. (We wish we could send a box to everyone that is nominated, but of course we can’t. However, we’ll do as many as we can.) Just a reminder – this costs you nothing. We are paying for the shipping and some of the contents, and we have companies who have donated things to us over the past year that we’ll be including in the boxes or packages. So who do you know that needs a box of Loopy Love right about now?

Thank you for helping us carry out this Random Act of Kindness again this year! We’d also like to share a Loopy Box of Fun with one of you. To enter the contest, leave a comment below. Tell us anything you’d like to share with us this December (what you’re working on, what you want for Christmas, your favorite holiday treat, the temperature in your town, what you are going to knit or quilt in January – anything you want to tell us.) We’ll send out the contest winner’s box next week, too!

  1. I am busy making 20 batches of peanut brittle to mail to friends and family. This effort really cuts into my Knitting time. I did plan ahead and have 10 pair of hand knit socks to send with some of the packages. Come January I will begin my sock Knitting for Christmas 2018

  2. working on now:

    Guernsey wrap
    Verderer’s Cowl (2 of them)
    Sock

    working on in January:\
    see above
(goal is to have wrap and sock done by Dec. 31. Wish me luck)

  3. I’m busy working on recovering from surgery; there is a little knitting involved, some Xbox as well and some sewing. I’m hoping to get cleared for exercise next month so I can start working on my overall wellness.

  4. I’m finishing up a baby sweater for my niece who is expecting in the new year. I can’t wait for her shower to give her the baby blanket I knit during Camp Loopy in August. Then I plan to knit myself something.

  5. I’m using my Worthy fingering yarn to make an infinity scarf for a very nice person who is retiring from the library that I volunteer at. It has to be done before her party on Dec. 29th. I’m hoping to finish it by the end of the week because then I must concentrate on holiday baking!

  6. I’m working on Bel Air with Bugga I bought from you years ago! It’s lovely.
Treat-Warm snickerdoodles and a cold glass of milk!
I dont want to think about Chicago’s temperature right now-it’s COLD!
My daughter got a Box of Fun last year and she loved it. It was so sweet of you 🙂

  7. I am working on my grandson’s hat out of the BMFA Cattywampus color that I ordered from The Loopy Ewe during the Thanksgiving weekend sale. He ordered wild colors so Cattywampus fits the bill. I’d like to knit myself a sweater come January. Thanks for being so kind. This world can use all the random acts of kindness we can muster.

  8. I cannot wait for this semester to end so that I can either finish the 3 WIPs that I have on the needles or cast on something new. In the meantime I’m trying to get my husband’s birthday socks, off the needles before they are more than a week late.

  9. I’m getting ready to start a baby blanket for my oldest niece’s first baby! And a poncho for my mom. Once the holidays are over, that is! I haven’t done a baby blanket for quite a while, and I’m pretty excited about this one. Just got my Cascade 220 superwash in the mail yesterday!

  10. Such a wonderful thing you are doing! I am trying to finish up my Coastal Fog shawl and then I need to make myself a hat before it gets too cold!

  11. I’m working on a Yowza Weigh It Shawl. I’m enjoying the pretty colors and the simplicity of the pattern. It’s so nice to knit next to the glow of our Christmas tree. Thank you for the chance to win.

  12. It’s cold here tonight, and windy — wind chills in the single digits. I’m working on a ‘knit sweater’ blanket for my godson for Christmas — but it’ll probably be late! I think he’ll like it anyway!

    Thank you for the contests!

  13. I’m working on holiday gifts, still. One Koolhaas hat, one Knit & purl Cowl, one Sockhead Hat need to be finished. I’ve finished my other holiday knitting. Yay!

  14. I’m attempting to make almost all Xmas gifts this year. It’s going…slowly. I need to finish some socks I just started, finish a scarf/mittens, and make 3 stuffed animals. Also maybe a hat. I don’t have high hopes.

  15. My daughter just requested last week a pair of fingerless gloves and a tree skirt. The gloves might happen this year but that tree skirt will have to be worked on for next year! Kids! They think we can just spit these things out! Hahaha! I am looking forward to her visit from VA and my brother’s family’s visit from NC this year. Memories in the making! Merry Christmas to you & yours!

  16. I just wanted to say that my friend was bestowed with one of these boxes last year and it was a wonderful surprise for her and I thank you for that!!

  17. It’s 17 degrees this December morning and I’m so glad to have furry boots and a cup of Vanilla Almond tea.

  18. I’m working on fingerless mitts in Tumbleweed Yarn Lariat for my oldest son, and hope to get them finished today so I can get them sent and cast on a Match and Move in Wollmeise and LMFA from TLE. I’m glad to be a knitter in weather like this; our temp is only 20 degrees with windchills of 5!

  19. I love that you guys do this! What a great way to brighten someone’s day, especially during the holidays when it is easy to forget to make time for yourself…

  20. I have mailed out all cards, all packages, everything that needs to be mailed. Except for one gift that has not yet arrived here from when I ordered it. Maui’s hook is on the Slow Boat From China (thanks, Amazon) and will get mailed to the recipient when it arrives.

    (Pick me! Pick me!)

  21. I am cross stitching. Oh my. Not knitting. Well I have knit a couple of gifts and finished my Academy semester this month, and I’m getting ready for a KAL. But I really would like this Christmas cross stitch finished by Christmas so it can hang for a few days at least. It may join a WIP pile though at the rate I’m going. I keep thinking of knits to make for gifts. The joy of giving. And I do need to make some white chocolate popcorn for my friend on the 23rd.

  22. I am really excited that my daughter will be here this year! Haven’t seen her for over a year, and we were last together for Christmas 2014. So I’m happy that waking up Christmas morning will be with both my girls (even if they are 29 and almost 31), and sewing them enjoy sister time.

  23. Just finished a quilt for my nephew (part of the Great Loopy Sewing Challenge); currently experimenting with various types of gift-card holders (mini-stockings; swedish heart baskets).

  24. I set myself loose knitting projects for Christmas this year and have happily completed them already. The day after I finished my last project, I found out the local NICU needs preemie hats, so I am starting a few of those.

  25. I used my the Cascade yarns in my latest box of fun to knit a hat and some toys for a family needing some love this Christmas. Today I am recuperating from cataract surgery yesterday.

I’d add a photo, but don’t know how to do it here.

  26. It’s cold and grey, I’m busy trying to finish up knitting some presents and dreaming of casting on something special for myself on Christmas! Thanks for the fun year, I’ve so enjoyed playing along and being involved! Happy New Year!

  27. My family has chosen a very quiet Christmas celebration on Christmas Eve this year, so Christmas will be rather anti-climatical.

In the last week, my son lost his cell phone and his job in a 24 hour period (totally his fault and totally preventable…but still). Then, today, my green singing finch died. He looked very peaceful, sitting on the bottom of the cage with his head bowed. Tomorrow would have been my Mom’s birthday…

Nothing major…I have warmth, shelter, family, food, etc. SIGH! Just feeling a little gloomy this holiday.

  28. I’m spending time far away from home, and in Florida with a family member who’s in the hospital, so the holidays are on hold–quite liberating actually, to not have all that self imposed pre-holiday stress!

  29. I am working on 2 semesters of Academy projects plus a quilt for a friend. I hope to get everything finished in time for Christmas and be ready for next Academy semesters. I wish to finish with the first graduates Spring of 2018! Cheers!

  30. This is so sweet! Thanks for the chance to nominate someone and a chance to win. My favorite part about TLE is your fabric. I make bags for my etsy shop amd christmas stockings. I live spending hours on your page looking at fabric and selecting ones that match. I sew most in the winter as my studio has nop cooling. I make extra qhile its cold out so i can keep my store srocked in the summer.
My friend and i take a girls trip to Ft. Collins twice a year and stop at TLE for a while. Its a calming and soothing place to wonder. I love it!

  31. Right now focusing on finals and taking breaks in between knitting on a shawl for my sister and sweaters for my husband and kids.

  32. I nominate Betty Bradley! She’s been instrumental in leading our group (Arvada Yarn and Fabric Crafters) including leading 4 seperate charity projects where we donated to the community (CASA, Headstart, Knitted Knockers and the American Heart Association Red Hat Campaign). She’s always willing to teach what she knows and she’s a good friend and supporter of our community in Arvada. She loves knitting Socks!

  33. I have finished sewing and knitting all my gifts this year and am now working on a test knit for a shop. I’m looking forward to some quality time with my family this Christmas.

  34. My favorite treat this Christmas has to be the old fashioned steamed pudding. We have it every year, every year I worry about if it is to dry, did I add too much brandy, did I forget to add enough candied fruit. Every year I watch in my children’s eyes the amazement as we celebrate the pudding much like Tiny Tim did in Charles Dickens imagination. Every year I am grateful for another year healthy and happy.

  35. I’m stitching 5 ornaments for each of the kids. I do this every year. I have the 5th one almost stitched completely, then comes the finishing. I should Gabe them done by Christmas Eve. I’m also working on a Helen Stewart shawl and two dish cloths for stocking stuffers. My favorite treat for Christmas is a Kringle from OH Bakery in Racine, Wisconsin.

  36. Such a fun idea!!

It’s been so snowless here, it still doesn’t feel like the holidays. But that hasn’t deterred me from working on all sorts of projects; I got my gifts done back in the spring, so it’s all for me right now 😀

  37. I asked Santa for a new sewing machine for Christmas and plan on doing some sewing in the new year – lucky me, Loopy has fabrics and sewing stuff too!!

  38. I am recently transplanted from Northern Colorado to TEXAS and I am currently enjoying the “cold” weather we finally have down here!
