This is a Ketchup Catsup Catch-up day on the blog, as there are miscellaneous things I wanted to touch base on today. First of all, we have prizes to award:
1. For Loopy’s Spring Challenge, we used the Random Number Generator to pick two winners from all participants. Meredith in MA and Kristine in CO each won a $25 Loopy Ewe Gift Certificate!
2. For the blog contest about great knitting books for your library, we are sending Light and Layered Knits to Marla in CA, Up, Down, All-Around Stitch Dictionary to Stephanie in CO, The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet Volume One to Jane in KS, and The Knitter’s Curiosity Cabinet Volume Two to Lindsay in PA. (Remember, if you’d like a good deal on Hunter’s patterns or ebooks, you have until this Friday to pick one out because of the special offer she set up for us! See our Designer Spotlight blog post with Hunter for details.)
3. Camp Loopy – how are your first projects coming along? I really like my Summer Love Wrap, done in Universal’s Cotton Supreme. I made a sweater out of this same color once, but it was too big (and darned if that yarn does.not.shrink no matter how many times you wash it and send it through a hot dryer). I had to give it away. So I’m glad to have something else done up in this beautiful Aqua color.
4. Also regarding Camp Loopy – this Glamping on Loopy Lake colorway is one of my most favorites ever. Next, I want a sweater out of it. (Click on the photo to see how the deep lake navy and the deep woods green play together). I also saved enough skeins of the February color for a sweater. And I think the March Celebrations color would be the greatest color in the world for a t-shirt and jeans sweater. Of course Jack is Back would be a beautiful neutral sweater for blacks and browns. I also set aside a skein of it to make myself Jack Socks.
5. I had to search on Ravelry to see if there were any cute Jack Sock patterns. Maybe Jack Thermal. I did find this adorable Jack-O-Lantern, which has nothing to do with the Jack is Back colorway. But isn’t he fun? I love Alan Dart patterns.
6. I ran across the best shortcut for making s’mores, ever.
7. For those of you who email often to ask how Mocha-the-outdoor-cat is doing these days, here’s a photo from this past weekend. He still belongs to our backyard neighbors, but he spends several days a week sleeping the day away on our back deck, and popping over a few times in the evenings as he takes his neighborhood stroll. I’m pretty sure they have no idea he spends half his life at our house. We’re happy to have him around. Since that post in the link above from 12/11, not only do we put food and water out for him, but we give him a daily brushing and he loves to be picked up. Do you think that might be why he hangs around?? 🙂
8. Back to ketchup – I had homemade (restaurant-made) ketchup in Gordon Ramsey’s restaurant in Las Vegas last fall, when I was there for a yarn industry meeting. (Look – here’s a blurry picture of Beth from Lorna’s Laces, but at least you can see the amazing fries and homemade ketchup on our table.) It was the best ketchup ever. Want to try your hand at homemade Ketchup? Here’s a link that I found on Pinterest. Or this one looks good, too.
9. Or how about Ketchup cookies? (Um, no.)
10. What’s your favorite thing to put ketchup on? And how do you prefer to spell it: Catsup or Ketchup?
Leave a comment below and we’ll pick a winner for this fun giftbag from Mrs. Crosby! It contains a skein of Steamer Trunk in Sunset Regatta, a skein of Carpet Bag in Hot Pimiento, a bar of Rosemary Mint Soap, a cute knitting card, and a pattern for Bettie’s Bell hat, which uses either a skein of Steamer Trunk or Carpet Bag. So you could make two hats – one for yourself and one for a friend. We’ll announce the winner in next Wednesday’s blog!

Love the misc. catch up! And in my house, it’s ketchup–and it’s only Heinz ketchup. And speaking of ketchup, my favorite thing to put it on is… Scrambled Eggs! Yummy!
Catsup — with Tator Tots!
It’s ketchup, of course. And my total favorite it to put in on homemade meatloaf.
I spell it ketchup. We are not big fans of it. Like it with hot dogs and hamburgers. May be I should try the homemade one to change my mind!!!
I love ketchup – especially on french fries. Now I want both. Thanks.
I like to put ketchup on my scrambled eggs and in my meatloaf.
Ketchup with French fries!
I really like ketchup on my liverwurst sandwich. Oh, and it must be on Wonder bread!
I spell it both ways – I’m a Gemini. I find that’s a good excuse for almost everything! And I like it on fries, tater tots, and meat loaf. But we also mix it with Mayo for fries and that’s a favorite in my house. When I lived for a brief time in Idaho, I found that they serve gravy with fries. It was wonderful.
I spell it ketchup and I like it on my eggs and home made Mac-and-cheese! Thanks for the chance to win!
I like putting ketchup on hot dogs at the tiger’s ballpark! Best part about summer.
Ketchup potato chips! Yes, a good Canadian staple of childhood. (Old Dutch are the best) A fellow Canadian and I were describing them to a co-worker yesterday and he dared to say “Ketchup? Chips? Yuck!” Seriously—don’t knock them till you try them!
I say Ketchup — I love that your neighbour kitty thinks of you as her other mum!
We have used Chocolate Oreos in a pinch for Smores as well!!
Ketchup …. on yummy meatloaf!
It’s ketchup, of course! I will skip the ketchup cookies, although a certain nephew at a certain age may have enjoyed them. I avoid it, unless it’s for cooking.
It is ketchup………….ham and beans…..YUM!!!!!!
The only thing I put Ketchup on anymore is fries,
What great colors! Thanks for the ketchup recipe 🙂
I do love ketchup, always Heinz (although making it sounds worth a try – can’t be as hard as knitting socks!). I always have lots on fried egg sandwiches!
French fries. The crispier the better. Oh wait, hot dogs. No meatloaf. And it’s catsup. 🙂
Ketchup for me. Catsup doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
I love to put ketchup on fries and grilled hot dogs.
That’s easy – McDonald’s fries. Mmmmmmm!! And it’s definitely ketchup. I don’t think I’ve ever said catsup in my life.
Ketchup on hotdogs, fries, hamburgers and sometimes eggs. Ooo I almost forgot meatloaf .
French fries and tater tots! And only Heinz ketchup will do the job.
Ketchup is the Jackson spelling and I love to put it on all types of potatoes… well not the scalloped ones.
I spell it like I say it-ketchup 🙂 The other spelling looks a bit like cat soup…and that really isn’t appetizing at all…
We spell it ketchup in my house. I mostly just put it on burgers! Oh, and it’s for dipping tater tots in 🙂
I wonder if ketchup cookies taste like ketchup chips (which are delicious!)?
Well, of course, ketchup goes with French fries like bread and butter, like cookies and milk, like peanut butter and jelly— etc., etc., etc.
Ketchup. I like it on hamburgers. Mustard is for hotdogs, and never the twain shall meet!
I spell it catsup, and I don’t care for it myself. But my children have always loved it with their potato chips. Even now, when they are 27!
Ketchup on hot dogs for the 4th of July – can’t wait!!
Love the yarn, could live without Ketchup
Growing up it was always “catsup” , but today in my kitchen it is Heinz & nothing else. The best thing to put it on is a turkey burger from the grill w/shed smoked Gouda cheese!
Ketchup on Mom’s meatloaf sandwiches is the best!!!!
Either spelling works fine for me. Several of our local restaurants make their own and they are delish on fries, sweet potato fries or burgers.
My favorite thing to put ketchup (and that is the way I spell it) is French fries. Yumm!
That is a sweet little package of goodies! I am sure I could give them a great home!
I spell it Ketchup. Love it on eggs.
I’d rather use salsa than ketchup!
So much news in one post !!!
My mother fried liver and onions
It much have been as often as once a week
I loved that L&O dinner best
Smothered with ketchup 🙂
Hugs
Ketchup. I only use it for french fries and homemade meatloaf, though since I’m not a huge ketchup fan.
I wonder if the way it’s spelled is is a regional thing…
Spell it catsup, but pronounce it ketchup. Mix it with some mayo and a touch of yellow mustard to make a delicious sauce to dip for fries and tater tots! The yarn is lovely!
French fries. 🙂
I don’t really like ketchup. But I have good job.
A mom tomato and her three baby tomatoes were walking down the street. One of the babies kept falling behind. The mom stomped her foot on the baby and went “catch up!” (get it. you have to read it aloud)
joke- not job!
Ketchup on french fries! Delish!
Hmmmm. I love burgers with ketchup. But the best is filet mignon. I use ketchup and sherry and other her herbs in the sauce. Super yummy.
Ketchup. And yes! Tater tots! Haven’t had that for so long, might have to splurge and get some this weekend, yum!
Has to be ketchup and on my fries.
Ok this may sound really disgusting, but when I was a kid, my dad wouldn’t allow spaghetti sauce to be served at home. Our spaghetti was served with ketchup. Thinking of that now, it’s been a really long time since I’ve had ketchup spaghetti !
