A New Slouch Hat

I turned to this hat because I was making a boring-to-knit cowl and needed something to get my knitting mojo back. The idea was to knit 4 rows on the cowl and then spend the rest of my knitting time (for that day) on the hat. Of course once I started in on the hat, I had no desire to go back to the cowl, so I haven’t touched it since.

This is the Skinner Hat by Melissa LaBarre, knit up in a new yarn line that we’ll be adding in to the shop soon. (Still under wraps, but I love the yarn.) It’s a 50/50 merino/silk and knit up beautifully. The hat is long so that it slouches in the back when you wear it. (Or if you have Rapunzel braids, I would imagine you could tuck them all up in there and keep them warm and dry.)

Guess who else likes merino/silk blends? Zoe had a good time checking it out.

“Mine?”

I thought I’d celebrate Thanksgiving week by giving away a few things in the blog this week. It seemed fitting to share some extra prizes with all of you, since YOU are at the top of The Loopy Ewe Gratitude List this year. Today’s giveaway – 5 of you will win a copy of this pattern, just because I liked it so much and want to share it with you. If you’d like to be in the running, leave a comment below. We’ll announce the winners on Wednesday’s blog (where we’ll then have another giveaway to share with you.)

  1. Cute hat. Want to do new hats for husband and brother. After that it will be time for a new hat for me. Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. Love the hat and lusting over the yarn.

Does Zoe have a problem with leaving your yarn alone. My cats won’t leave my yarn alone. My daughter has two cats and they don’t bother her yarn at all. I think mine might be toying with me.

  3. The yarn is beautiful! Would love to see it “in person”, along with the pattern! Your Zoe is a very discerning feline, with excellent taste! I know she is your “Quality Control Inspector”!

  4. Your Zoe is a curious about yarn as mine. Have to keep all my yarn (except acrylic – she is a yarn snob) in closed containers or she wanders off with it!

Love the pattern, my Katie and all her friends have asked for slouchy hats for Christmas, they are all the rage with teenage girls.

    Happy Thanksgiving!

  5. Hey, Sheri….love the yarn. It goes so well with my dress coat!! I love the lacey look of the pattern. I have three little girls in the neighborhood that I knit for and they would look adorable in that hat! They’ve already told me that they must have fingerless gloves this year!! The two together would make a great gift for each of them.

  6. Cute hat! I’d love to win the pattern. I have a few of her other hat patterns that I’m itching to try.
    Happy Thanksgiving!

  7. Pick me! Pick me! (or not……) Working on a sockhead hat with a beautiful skein of Claudia’s yarn… round and round and round I go….. (Glad you did the post on hat suggestions…that’s where I got the idea and am on my second one!!) Looking forward to knitting together soon!!

  8. My knitting mojo up and left when I started seminary. I really need a fun project to do during the next several days before my final projects and exams start next week. And on these cooler, winter like days in the Missouri my head would relish being warm.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the loopy elves.

  9. Happy Thanksgiving !! yeah and I need to get back to granddaughter’s fingerless mitts ( some reason not going well !)

  10. I never thought that I’d like berets, but after knitting a couple they’re quite nice. This pattern looks like it could change my mind on slouchy hats… looks like a fun knit!
