Knitting Groups and a CONTEST!

Last night was our late-night shopping hours evening. We’re open later the first Thursday of each month. Some Thursday nights are crazy busy, and other nights are calm and laid back. Last night, we had a great group of knitters pop over from Illinois to hang out, shop, and knit. In that group there were experienced knitters and brand new knitters, which is always fun. Some of them were just learning to knit socks and were being encouraged and instructed by the more experienced knitters in their group.

But the unique thing about this group? Some of them were the very first in-person shoppers to visit The Loopy Ewe. Here’s a photo of their first trip, back when Loopy was just a teeny tiny corner of shelves in my basement. They could stand in the middle of it and reach any shelf and any skein of yarn. (I’m not exaggerating.) The thing is, I think they had just as much fun on that first visit as they did on this visit (and all of their visits in between). It doesn’t matter how many shelves of yarn you have – just getting knitting friends and yarn together pretty much guarantees that fun will follow.

I made up a couple of extra Spring Fling Goodie Bags, just so I could share them with you in a blog contest! This year’s bag was a clear vinyl tote with shoulder straps, that came with a yellow-checked Loopy Ewe Mug, a sample of hand lotion, a Loopy sticky note set, and a skein of Wollmeise in a variety of colorways. Would you like to win one? Just leave us a comment below and answer this question: How many years have you been knitting? We’ll draw for the Goodie Bag winners next week.

  1. Hi Sheri –

I am just dying to come to Loopy Central in person! One of these days…

I’ve now been knitting for four years and would LOVE to win the Spring Fling package!

    Thanks for the opportunity,

  2. I have been knitting since my grandmother taught me in October of 2004, so that’s almost seven years. I can tell I’ve been knitting A LOT when I start knitting in my sleep. That’s always fun. 😉

  3. Oh, off and on for more than 20 years! My mom taught me when I was little, and I didn’t knit through college, and took it up again after I got married! Now, I’m a constant addicted knitter!

  4. I’ve been knitting just about 10 years. I taught myself from a book! It took several tries to finally get it.

  5. I’ve been knitting for five and a half years now – I started knitting a month after I started working at the hospital here, and my 6 year service anniversary is this coming August. It’s nice to have a solid benchmark to rely on!

  6. I’ve been knitting for over 40 years. Not obsessively for all that time, it comes and goes. But I learned in Girl Scouts. We made slippers. This last obsessive wave has lasted about 15 years so I think it might stick this time.

  7. I knit my first sweater vest at the age of 10. I learned to knit before then, so let’s say 50 years.

  8. Almost 5 years to the day! Currently I’ve been on a major sock knitting kick, so this has worked out well for me and my majorly large sock yarn stash. 🙂

  9. Seriously knitting for the past five years but judging by my stash it looks more like the past fifty!

  10. I’ve been knitting a little over 2 years. It’s become my new obsession. Thanks for the contest for the goodie bag.

  11. I learned the basics of knitting as a teenager, but I’ve only really been knitting for about 5 years. I so wish I had re-discovered it sooner. And I’m knitting as fast as I can. Thanks for the blogs, the recipes and the contests, Sheri!

  12. I’ve been knitting for about 10 years now. Of course I’ve acquired enough stash for about 20 years during that time. 🙂

  13. I learned how to knit when I was in my 20s, took a break for a couple of decades or so, and came back to knitting in earnest about five years ago. So, do you want the 30 year answer or the 5 year answer, LOL!

  14. Oh geez. I think 6 years or so? Maybe longer. It’s the one thing I have started that I actually stuck with!

  15. A little more than 20 years—-no wait! my math is Terrible, it’s a bit over 30 now!! (since around 1980 when i graduated high school then started college…learning to knit from a book was in there)

  16. I can’t remember not knitting, so it must be very, very long since I started. Pretty much all my life. I just can’t write the number it frightens me 🙂

  17. Six years – I taught myself to knit while traveling for my job. Its the best way to pass time waiting for that plane or train!!

  18. I’ve been knitting for 40mumble years! There were a few lean knitting years when I was a student, but apart from that it’s been pretty constant. I’ve got some pretty deep stash from 40 something years too!

  19. I’ve been knitting for about two years now. I would love to come to Spring Fling some year.

  20. My Godmother taught me to crochet when I was 13. I leaned to knit at age 20 from my head nurse at the hospital where I worked. Full steam ahead from then on.

  21. I’ve been knitting 45 years! Mom taught me to knit Barbie scarves when I was 6 or 7 years old. Lucky me!

  22. My mother’s fried Millie taught me the basics when I was 9. Oh my gosh, 55 years ago. Thank you Millie. (And thank you Loopy Ewe).

  23. I first learned to knit from my host family sisters in Germany 27 years ago…then took a break until my son was one, 17 years ago, when I took a knitting class–but the teacher wanted us to make a sweater, and my pattern was garter stitch…so I took another break until about 5 or 6 years ago, when I picked it up again and determined to do what I’d wanted to do all along: try all kinds of patterns–lace, cables, etc.

  24. Let’s see, my instructors are now in the eleventh grade, so that makes it 7 years. My how time flies!

  25. I was lucky enough o attend the very first Spring Fling – it is a dream of mine to go again a second time 🙂

  26. I’ve been knitting for 5 years. And just found out that my LYS, where I learned to knit, is closing in June. I wish I lived closer to TLE! I’m in a Chicago suburb and that’s just too far when I need a quick fix. 🙂

  27. I have been knitting for less than a year – started last September. My grandmother knitted and crocheted and tried to teach me and my sisters. Our oldest sister took to it but my younger sister and myself found excuses. Of course I regret that now but am making up for lost time after finding The Loopy Ewe. Like Lisa I wish I were closer – I’m in NJ.

    Thank you Loopy.
