Spring Fling Goodie Bag Contest

DSC03689Before I start a new contest, I wanted to announce the winners from the April Blog Contest (where I asked you about the weirdest thing you have ever cooked with or eaten.) Some of you have eaten some rather disgusting interesting things. YUCK. Wow! I used the random generator to pick 3 winners, and will be sending skeins of Femme Fatale (the color that Claudia dyed up for the Spring Fling) to Betty in Calgary, Marji in NY, and Catrina in NC. Congratulations to all three of you! I have a few extra skeins of this colorway, so you’ll have another chance to win it in our May blog contest as well. 🙂

DSC03685Speaking of the Fling, when people first arrive and check in, we give them each a Goodie Bag, filled with fun things. Since I’m such a bag and mug kind of person, I have fun picking these out especially for the Fling each year. And then filling them! Here is a photo of this year’s bag and contents. (I was a little into Apple Green this spring – can you tell? It’s such a happy color. I got our new travel mugs in that color as well.) I liked this bag so much that I may order them to sell here (only it won’t say Spring Fling). I liked the mugs a lot, too, but since we have a hard time shipping mugs because of breakage, I probably won’t have those for sale online. But I do have some filled Goodie Bags to give away, and I thought a blog contest would be the way to go. Included: the cute bag (it has an over-the-shoulder strap, pockets under the flap, and water bottle holder), 1 skein of Wollmeise’s Femme Fatale, the Loopy mug, two patterns, a Little Loopy, a post-it holder, a Spring Fling stitchmarker, and a mini skein of Baby Boom. Retail value is $65. We’ll use the random generator to pick the winners from the comments section and I’ll pick a winner for every 200 or so entries. My question for you to answer in the comments is: Who is your favorite knitwear designer?  (It’s ok to say “I don’t have one”. I want everyone to be eligible to get in on this contest. But if you do have one, tell us!)

Have you joined our groups on Facebook and Twitter? We just finished up one of our 24 Quick Quizzes over there. I think I need to start doing those on our Ravelry group every once in awhile, too. We love connecting with you in other places, if you have time for those things in your life. (They can take time away from knitting, though. Ask me how I know….)

I‘m heading off to MDSW this weekend and hope to see some of you there! I never did come up with a good meeting place or time for Loopy Groupies. Instead, I’m just going to carry this big red bag, because it’s the ideal lightweight shopping bag, and I do intend to fill it up with purchases. If you see me walking by, grab me and say hi!  I’ll be back to blogging on Monday with pictures of SHEEP. I love all of those sheep.

  1. I think anyone who can write a decent knitting pattern deserves kudos, but Cookie A is my fave for socks (for now)!

  2. I’m still so new at knitting I don’t think I can answer this question! 🙂 I’m still trying to find simple enough patterns that I can do without giving up.

  3. I don’t think I could pick just one.. there are so many talented designers 🙂 I love reading about the Spring Fling though!

  4. Oh there’s so many! Wendyknits is great for shawls and socks. Cookie A. makes pretty socks, but too complicated for me!!
Liz Abinante makes beautiful things based on the TV show Bones. Indigirl, Samantha Roshak, FunFaerieGirl, Turtlegirl76… gosh the list goes on and on. I simply cant choose.

  5. Favorite designer has to be Wendy Johnson, Wendyknits. The patterns I always like the most turn out to be her designs.

Love the Fling goodie bag. Maybe I’ll get lucky via the randomness of the universe…..

  6. Oh, I couldn’t possibly pick a favorite. I love knitspot, adore Cookie A., cherish WendyKnits, think Ysolda Teague is the cat’s meow (or the sheeps bah) and would readily admit that I was years into knitting before I found out about the genius that is/will always be Elizabeth Z but, since finding her, have only grown to admire her more:)

  7. I can’t pick only one knitwear designer, are you kidding? There’s WendyKnits, there’s Anne Hanson, there’s Ysolda Teague, there’s Jared Flood, there’s always Elizabeth Zimmermann (and then if you want to slide over to the crochet side of the aisle, there’s Doris Chan …)!

  8. My favorite designers include Wendy Knits and Cookie A. I love making socks and make them most often of anything I knit.

  9. My favorite designer is Lee Meredith from Portland, Oregon. Her designs are so interesting to knit and the finished project has the wow factor. You just wonder how did she make that and is the pattern available. I love her hats and always try to have one on the needles. Find her at http://www.leethal.net

  10. My favorites change with what I am knitting – socks, toys, lace. Right now I am in a lace phase and I love Nancy Bush’s designs. I also enjoy watching new patterns come up on Anna Hrachovec’s blog Mochimochiland- tiny little creatures. They make me smile.

  11. I love Anne Hanson’s designs – I’m currently working on the Matterhorn set. I have been admiring the designs from Kirsten Kapur and Cookie A. I’ll have to try a pattern from each of them over the summer.

  12. i admire a lot of designers, no faves. but for doing, i’m not a great knitter, so i still favor anyone with an easy pattern. 🙂

  13. I love a lot of them! But if I had to choose just one, it would have to be Ysolda Teague. So far I have not had any problems knitting her designs, they’re dead easy and simple yet gives me a very pretty FO.

  14. Wendy ( for her socks) and Sally Melville. But I have made very few garments. I am going to remedy that problem this year!!!!

  15. Just one designer?!? Jared Flood, Ysolda Teague & Anne Hanson come to mind immediately. There are so many things I want to knit, want to learn, designers I want to try . . . I need to be independently wealthy & have unlimited knitting time!

  16. Anne Hanson. Her patterns are easy to understand, easy to knit and well written and charted. Hardly ever any errata. The beautiful things I knit make me look like an expert! That’s why I have so very many of her patterns! Yeah, Anne!

  17. Oh, Sheri, half my problem is too many favorite designers! The other half of course is too many favorite yarns, as you know. 🙂 I love Susan Pandorf for lace, Anne Hanson for socks and lace, Wendy Johnson and Cookie A for socks, and Ysolda Teague and Laura Chau for sweaters, to name just a few. I am continually humbled and inspired by the amazing talent that’s out there!

  18. My favorite designers so far are Cookie for socks and Ysolda Teague for her small shawls and darling Elijah!
