Wednesday Forecast: Snow. 5-6″, starting at dinnertime. Single digits, with windchills below zero. We’re going to get buried here in the Midwest. (Well – “buried” is relative. It’s considered buried for us.) I’m ready. I love snow. It does help that I’m only 3 blocks from Loopy and have few other places to go in this weather.
Thursday Forecast: Continued snow and cold temperatures. Many school closings already in the works. Loopy Elves are quickly pointing out that they may not be able to make it in to work. College Daughter may need to Elf tomorrow. Orders may take an extra day to get out, due to anticipated Elf Shortage.
Friday Forecast: Sunny, highs in the mid 70’s. A delightful day. (Granted, this is in California, not St. Louis. Seems like a really good time for me to be heading out to our twice-a-year TNNA Market, doesn’t it?)
Saturday/Sunday Forecast: Continued sunny and warm. Much yarn buying going on. Many decisions to make. Not much knitting going on.
Monday Forecast: Continued sunny and warm, turning to freezing and cold as the plane leaves CA and gets back to St. Louis on Monday night. No Sneak Up, no blog, but we’ll be sure to have new things up for you on Tuesday, and a blog full of TNNA info on Wednesday.
Or ….. this may all be a hoax. Sometimes the grocery stores bribe the weather people to make these things up. That way, there is a run on bread and milk, but then nothing ever happens. We’ll see. (And as a knitter, I’m much more concerned about whether or not I have enough projects to last me through the storm – the heck with the bread and milk.)
Sheri what’stheforecastinyourneckofthewoods?
cold. endless cold. followed by more cold and then, yes cold, with a cold front predicted. Also wind, howling like a pack o wolves. black ice all around, graying frozen snow mounds everywhere. how many days till spring? A friend who moved to Chicago used to say every day that she was freezing her a** off, and told people she would be “a**-less by springtime.”
Whatever you have about 18 hours later – because you are kind enough to shove it eastward. Enjoy TNNA & travel safely.
Our forecast is for snow starting Thursday night. We still have some leftovers from the Blizzard of 2009. But today it’s sunny and cold here. Brrrrr…. Every 10 years or so we get weather like this. Twenty-ten is our year, it seems.
Enjoy CA and TNNA. Great timing on your part.
Cold, cold.and colder forecast for the DC metro area. Anticipating flurries tomorrow evening into Friday. Temps in the 20’s Friday through Sunday or Monday, then back up to the 30’s. Can you say “heat-wave”? 😉 Sheri, do you think you can bring some of the warmth & sunshine with you and put it on the See What’s New page when you get back?
It’s actually warmed up to the 20’s today in WIsconsin–it’s been in the teens and lower for about a week. The weather guy this morning thought it was pretty funny that the temp in Sturgeon Bay, WI was higher then that in Atlanta and Jacksonville, FL. It’s damp and feels like there will be snow, which is in the forecast for Thursday. But only around 3″ here in Oshkosh. The southern part of the state should get more. 6″ or less is OK, I like it when we get the fresh coating on the old snow (no, it usually doesn’t melt here until Spring!). Plus that makes it all the better for snowshoing! If we didn’t have the cold and snow, why would we knit!
Continuous gray skies, and snow, 1 – 2″ tomorrow. More into the weekend and cold. Your weather arrives in the Ohio Valley about 24 – 48 hours later. We aren’t are predicted to go about freezing before mid week next week at the earliest.
The weather people here in Pittsburgh always remind us to stock up on bread, milk, and toilet paper! Not being from here, it always cracks me up to think that a little snow might make your bathroom a danger zone!
Just north of you Sheri (North Central Illinois)and they are predicting 7-11 inches with 30 mph winds to follow and single digit temps. It has been nothing but cold here and there is about 6 inches on the ground from the last strom that they said that we were to get 2 inches. Wouldn’t it be nice to work at a job where you got paid to be right 25% of the time.
I am sick of Winter and ready for Spring. I am tried of being cold all the time and cannot get warm no matter what I do or wear.
Funny picture!
Tnna is being held right down the street from me. I am envious. :p. There are quite a few good eateries right around there, fyi. and if you use the free shuttle you dont have to doubble pay for parking.
An Elf shortage! Heavens, what is the world coming to? Have a great trip to TNNA, and please order lots and lots of stuff for us to buy.
14 degrees projected in Big D. Yikes! We don’t do cold in Texas! : )
I’m sure I could survive a week on the leftover holiday treats hanging around here. Besides, who needs food as long as you’ve got yarn!
We’re getting the Arctic temps, too, but only 2″-4″ of snow starting tonight. Makes me wish that businesses closed like schools do.
And I giggled at “Elf Shortage.” Because typically Elves are well, short. 🙂
I’m over in O’Fallon for work, but would LOVE to fill in for the Loopy Elves. Have rental car, will travel! (Unfortunately I think my customer would prefer I be here. Bummer.)
All snow forecasts are sponsored by the French Toast Council. What else are you going to do with the bread and milk when it doesn’t snow?
Around here the schools are notorious for canceling school for a forecast that doesn’t materialize. Happened today I think.
I am rather bitter(ly cold) about our current weather in Indiana, so I fear I should not comment about it in a public place. However, your post made me laugh, which in turn might have made the sun peak out for a moment…so thank you for that!
Fifty degrees here today – thirty eight degrees tomorrow – then back up. Yipee for the southwest. It should really be much warmer, but I’ll take this over what most of the country has.
Same as yours except I don’t get to go to California for the weekend. I think
it’s going to be in the 30’s next week sometime. We will feel like we are having
a heat wave.
Have a very safe trip Sheri! Soak up everything new that you see so that we can all read about it next week. I am glad that I got my order in earlier this week lol .
As for snow, I work for a company that sells woodstoves and fireplaces and they don’t close the doors on a little weather, they love it when it snows here in Ohio.
PS I am rolling the dice for the sock club again this year. Wish me luck!
Sounds a lot like what we are in for tomorrow, Sheri, only more snow (6-9 inches). Wind, cold, etc., etc. I’m so glad I can work from home! Now, what chance do you think of my new dining room set has of being delivered tomorrow, the date the shipper called me with a week ago? It’s arrived at O’Hare. Poor table and chairs!
Freezing cold on the east coast, and looking forward to spring…just three more months but whose counting. In the meantime, constantly looking for those new knitting projects. Did anyone take notice of the sweater worn by Susan in Desperate Housewifes this past week. That will be my next quest.
Sheri, This may be your best blog yet. Love the snow report and then it turns to 70 degrees. Only because you are leaving the area. I’m surprised you are coming back to the cold. If it was me, I’d stay in Calif until St Louis realy warms up.
No I’m not a cold person and Yes, give me sun, palm trees and 70 degrees. (not much luck in Washington DC where the high this week is 37. This weekend we will be luck if it get to 25 as a high.)
hope you have fun in Calif and find lots of new and exciting things for us to buy.
Happy New year.
Freezing temps for days. In HOUSTON. We will have lows in the 20’s for the next three nights, and highs in the 30’s. And we have a chance of a second snow …. I know it’s normal to have these temps elsewhere, but not here!
Personally, I’m happy because it means I get to wear some of my heavier knitted items that I don’t usually get much wear from!!!
We’re having a heat wave…. it’s 10 degrees out, but we’re about to get more snow, on top of the layer of snow and ice we already have. It’s been in the minus’s since Christmas, and it will be going back there shortly. Is is summer yet? Can you take me with you to CA? I promise, I can buy yarn with the best of them……
Have fun at TNNA. I’m slightly jealous that you’ll see sunshine. We haven’t seen that all week so far. As for the weather here, it’s been below freezing since this past weekend and will stay that way for a while. One good thing about the temperatures…I can take pretty pictures of snowflakes–see my blog.
NE FL low 20’s every night for a week – I’m afraid I’m going to lose my ornamental palms – they are not indignious to this area – On a positive note – it’s great to be able to wear ALL my knitted items that for years on end never get used unless we go farther north for a winter holiday. Also makes my husband WAY more interested in anything I might be knitting for him. Sheri – safe travels to TNNA – hope you have a great time – enjoy the sun and warm temps. Melody
Well now they’ve upgraded it to 3 – 6″ of powder coming in an Alberta clipper. We’ll see.
It is snowing here AGAIN. We already had 24 plus inches and now we are supposed to get anywhere from 3 to 12 more on top of that. At least the temperature was above zero today. I actually I never thought 9 degrees would be pleasant.
Wednesday: Exactly the same.
Thursday: Exactly the same. Volunteer Elf opportunity???? yay!
Friday: Bitter cold, temps in the teens to single digits.
Saturday: Temps below zero in the early AM. I’m really looking forward to this since I have to officiate at a swim meet and that requires shorts. brrrrrrrr!!!!
Sunday: more of the same and more short wearing. I must be nuts!
COLD on the northeast here. You wonder how the little birds can stand it in the cold and wind. It was an expense but I am SO glad I had an energy efficient gas heater installed in the fall. My gas bill is less than half from last year 🙂 (which was milder than this yr I think) and I hesitate to think of what the bill would be with the antique I had before! Now flurries or lt. snow for Friday – but they change the forecast so often you don’t know what to think. I would be happy if the sun would just come out. I feel bad for the farmers in Florida & anywhere else the crops were hit, though. It’s one thing to feel cold but when it affects your lively hood – that’s something else.
Snow is an excellent excuse to knit and eat…both of which I did here in Minnesota over Christmas when we got 18 inches! Enjoy both your snow and your sunshine. Looking forward to all the fun stuff you share with us next week!
We have light snow for one day of the weekend (I think I saw it was Friday) and then brisk temperatures the rest of the weekend. Not too bad, even though I’m going to be out probably Friday night for Guild and in and out the rest of the weekend.
we caught a slight glimpse of flurries in early december… otherwise? rain, rain and more rain. I could do with a lil snow, at this rate we may not get any this year!
For some reason, here in Baltimore the run is on for bread, milk and toilet paper!
Warm and sunny, too warm for my knitwear. 😉
Stay safe and warm in the crazy weather and have plenty of knitting time with Knitting Daughter. I also look at it this way – in a few months, we’ll be complaining of the heat 🙂
i was just thinking today how much i love winter. i am aware that almost everyone except my second graders think i’m insane. i don’t mind. it’s heat that doesn’t thrill me, unless there’s a beach involved. 🙂
The forecast outside is for snow and blowing snow and way below zero windchills…. The forecast for the inside is for fire; hot tea; knitting and possibly a movie. Just wishing the inside forecast also included my kids…. house MUCH too quiet!!!!
We are getting what you are getting (minus the 70 degree interlude, of course!). My son is practically begging for a snow day (yes, school did just start again on Monday). Maybe his wishes will come true. Happy travels!
I am set with lots of lovely yarn from the Loopy Ewe to keep me busy through this “blizzard” Happy shopping!!! Hey how are your fuzzy girls. I have missed not seeing any pictures.
Elf shortage or not, I got my order asap as usual!Thank you, Sheri!
We’ve already got what you’ll be getting–have fun with that! Hope it doesn’t close the airport on you!
Here in balmy Florissant Missouri we have snow, dogs to cuddle and a grand package from The Loopy Ewe to open and enjoy!
The snow is falling so hard it is hissing as it sifts through the trees.
Chihuahuas potty outside with alacrity when it is snowing.
Our temps are dropping and the wind is blowing and that window in DH’s man cave is whistling…..I’ve got bread, milk, ingredients for good, warm comfort foods….and yarn!
And a permanent job – I just got that today! I start on Monday.
I’m in No. Cal & today we had foggy weather & 49..
Tomorrow about the same..my sister will be in
to visit you all next week I believe.
Enjoy your time out here in our warm weather!
It’s even cold, very cold here in west central Florida and we’re the only county around the Tampa Bay area to stay above freezing . . . but just barely . . . it’s supposed to go down to 33 degrees tonight! Ugh!!! And 20 years ago when we moved here, we went swimming in the ocean on New Year’s Day! We live just a mile and a half from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and people often ask if we spend lots of time there. No – it’s too cold for about 5 months over the fall and winter and too hot for about 5 months in the summer! But we still don’t shovel snow. Enjoy sunny south CA!
Oh dear. I hope the Loopy ewe HQ doesn’t get buried in snow! Whatever would you do with all that wet yarn? I know…..have a sale! LOL!
Dubai could use some of that cold weather so don’t hesitate to send us some. This week’s forecast is hazy with lows of 16-17C and highs of 24-25C. I think it’s threatening to rain as the clouds have been looking grey and heavy this past two days. It’s not as cold this time of the year compared the past years, but it’s lovely since I get to wear all my hand-knits! In fact I am wearing an Ishbel shawl and a pair of Cotty socks now!
Keep warm, Sheri!
I’m heading to California tomorrow as well for a family vacation. But here in Northern Virginia snow is predicted overnight and into the morning. It will be nice to get to California for a few days in the sun and warmth.
Is it a hoax or just a way to play on people’s insecurities. I don’s fall for it. I can drive in any type of weather. Anyway it is cold in the Tidewater area of Virginia. I just wish we had some snow! It is wonderful knitting weather! I am trying to find a sweater pattern for my 14-year-old son. What an adventure!
