Sock Summit

We’re in Portland! We arrived on Tuesday evening and got up early Wednesday morning to ….. run errands. Well, we couldn’t get in to start setting up our booth until 1 pm, so we went shopping instead. It seemed like a good use of our time.

Aug 6, 2009 008When we found our booth space, it was almost impossible to get into it because of all of the boxes of stuff that we shipped out there. We blocked the whole thing. (Which led me to believe that we would never fit it all in the booth, but I was proved wrong. We have those red tables full of re-stocking yarns and accessories underneath, but we did manage to fit it all in!) We spent 9 hours setting up on Wednesday and a few more hours today. Here is the finished booth (with Susan and Knitting Daughter posing.) Loopy Groupie Lou saw it and called it “Loopy Lite”. Lou has been at Loopy Central for Spring Fling shopping and she thought it was like we had taken that and recreated it in a miniature version. I think she’s right. It feels very “Loopy” to me, from the red carpet to the red and white shelves, to the socks and Loopy presiding over all!

Aug 6, 2009 009Last night the Marketplace was open for just two hours for students (people who were signed up to take classes) and teachers. It was crazy busy and the two hours were over in a blink. So far, the best part of being here has been meeting our awesome Loopy customers in person! It was like a family reunion at times, as we recognized so many names. The other fun part is seeing all of the famous sock designers in attendance. Nancy Bush, Charlene Schurch, Barbara Walker, Meg Swanson…. and a whole bunch more. And of course we always love connecting with Mary-Heather, Sarah, Casey and Jess from Ravelry.

Aug 6, 2009 012I wish I had time to take all of the classes. (I did joke with Claudia in Germany that the next time I ought to just bring Wollmeise, sell out the first day, and then take classes and play the rest of the time – ha!ย  And then I realize what I’m saying and wise up. I’d fear for my life with a booth full of Wollmeise.)

Today is a long day at the Marketplace. The shopping is open from 8:30 – 6:30 and we’re looking forward to meeting a whole bunch more of you. I’ll post again when I can.

For those of you waiting on orders, remember that when we do a sale like we’re doing this week, the orders can take an extra day or two to ship. (And the poor Elves we left behind are working like mad to keep up with them all.) Just know that it’s all in process!

  1. Thank you so much for the Portland update!! It looks absolutely amazing. Your booth is just darling ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. “I’d fear for my life with a booth full of Wollmeise.”

Boy, you got that right! And Claudia would probably be traumatized for life at the sign of thousands of knitters surging forward, their eyes glowing red, arms outstretched, screaming, “Wollmeise! Wollmeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeise!” (And probably mispronouncing it.)

Lucky you! I wish I could have gone! Hope you have a wonderful time!

  3. What a wonderful weekend you’re going to have! I love the booth!

(Hmm, I wonder if my DH can be persuaded to help me construct a wall of sock yarn cubbyholes like that – of course, not QUITE so much sock yarn to store in them…)

  4. Your booth looks great! I’d like to see the before and after photos…before the shoppers and after the shoppers have emptied your shelves…I doubt you’ll be shipping much home!

  5. Oh boy, that sure looks like thee place to be! Many of us are sitting home wishing, wishing that we could be there. Hoping everyone there has a glorious time. Back to scrubbing my floors ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. arrrghhhh! as a mainer, i keep reading portland and thinking it’s the REAL portland you’re talking about, not oregon. you really should specify…or just say oregon. either way.

  7. โ€œIโ€™d fear for my life with a booth full of Wollmeise.โ€

LOL – it would sell out faster than when you have it up on the site – you would need armed guards to quell the crowds!!

Glad to see you and the yarn made it there safely! I’ll be in Portland the week AFTER sock summit and can’t wait to enjoy the cool air and visit the yarn shops.

See you in September and good luck with the rest of the market!

  8. Thanks for the update, Sheri! I agree with the others, it looks like a mini-Loopy Ewe (well, from what I see of it in your photos :). So cozy and inviting! Wish I could be there.

  9. The thought of you with a booth full of Wollmeise made me laugh out loud! Hope you sell everything so you have nothing left to ship home.

  10. Looks like so much fun! I can’t wait to meet Jess & Casey one day. And a booth full of Wollmeise – you would be one extremely brave person! Have lots of fun!

  11. Oh, what fun! I love the pics. It’s nice to try to imagine all the fun that is going on out there! Have a great time and keep us . . .posted. snicker.

  12. Now I’m really sad that I couldn’t make it out to Portland. Next year, I’d be happy to work your booth for you just so I could be there (and then you could take all the classes)!

  13. Your booth is adorable and I am SO envious! I would love to be where you’re at right now! Good luck and by the way…what are those cute bags like things hanging in front of the counter? I am a knitting bag freak! ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Oh, I am soooo envious…wish I could have mustered up the time and $$ to come. Maybe if it is a huge success (which it certainly looks like it’s gonna be…) it will happen again in the future! How many are signed up to attend…any idea?

I shall console myself with a few skeins of Smooshy to knit Wendy’s new Order to Chaos shawl… *sigh*

  15. Your booth does look just like a little Loopy Central. So awesome. Jeanne (previous post) and I think alike…I also want to know about the bags in the front. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great time in Portland.

  16. Thank you, Sheri, for sharing Sock Summit pictures. It’s almost as good as being there. Hope you and Susan and Knitting Daughter have a great time. Sounds like you all have really worked hard so far. The booth looks great.

And a huge thank you to the elves that stayed behind and manned Loopy Central. I know we’ve stressed them out.

  17. Sheri sounds and looks like you are having a Grand time!
    Thanks for sharing with us!
    enjoy the weekend…

  18. So glad you get to be there! Even selling, and even without the death-defying thought of Wollmeise. I think Gryphon is getting those attackers because of the Bugga.

  19. Portland! I was just there visiting a few months ago. I’m sure you’re going to be busy beyond belief for the whole weekend, but… You definitely need to try and get out around downtown while you’re there!

Powell’s (The City of Books!) is a must see, of course; they have the biggest knitting book selection I’ve ever seen!. And there’s this awesome deli we found up the road called Kenny and Zuke’s (they make their own pastrami and corned beef! On site!). Oh! And Voodoo Donuts is wonderful as well (they have sugar cereal covered donuts! Captain Crunch, Fruit Loops and Cocoa Puffs!).

    Have an excellent weekend!

  20. Booth looks great! It sounds like it is a wonderful place to be…so envious. Let’s think east coast for next year????

  21. What a beautiful job you’ve done bringing the Loopy Ewe to Sock Summit! I know it’s going to be one of the busiest booths there. You have many adoring fans….just wish I was there to adore it in person. The Spring Fling seems so far away….I am invited again aren’t I ??? ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. I came by, you were busy, didn’t have time to chat. So I talked a friend into buying stuff. ๐Ÿ™‚ And then I bought some stuff. And showed off knits made with yarn (L&V Intentions) from your shop. LOL Never did introduce myself though.

Your set up looks gorgeous! Such a friendly booth.

  23. Sheri, Susan and Julia you have done an outstandingย  job setting the booth up.ย  It is absolutely beautiful.ย  Have a wonderful weekend and safe travels home.ย  Hugs

  24. Wow! Loopy Lite/Loopy Ewe Too looks amazing – all that droolness in one tiny space!
Thanks for the photo’s Sheri, it’s almost like being there, i hope you guys are having a blast today ๐Ÿ™‚

  25. I wish I were there to shop in person, your booth looks amazing. I did order something from the sale, and it arrived in a flash, just like always. Your Elves are working hard to continue your great customer service!

  26. I placed an order on August 3rd. I received the order on August 5th. I have never known any business to complete an order so fast. I barely had time to hide the yarn before the husband got up (he works at night). It isn’t easy hiding a potential gift when it arrives so quickly. Your service is more than amazing. It is stunning. Thank you. I love your shop.

  27. Your Loopy booth looks great and I really wish I could be there! It looks like it would be so much fun just to be in the marketplace! ๐Ÿ™‚

  28. Loved the Loopy Lite booth-wish I could have been there, too. I know you’ll have great success, but I also know how difficult it is running a booth at a show-hang in there-I doubt you’ll have time to knit for helping folks buy yarn!

  29. Love you’re report. Have a wonderful time. Wish I was there to meet you and shop…..more. Love the anniversary sale!

  30. Wonderful! Your booth looks like home. I love it. Have an awesome time and don’t forget to sit once in a while – those floors can kill your feet!

  31. Sheri & Susan – It was GREAT to meet you and I loved getting a small sense of what Loopy Central is like – thanks to all of you for being so, so gracious. Oh – and I also love the String Theory that might have fallen into my basket ๐Ÿ™‚
