Sock Summit or Not?

Are you heading to The Sock Summit next week?  If so, read on. (If not, you can skip to the last paragraph….)  We’re really looking forward to seeing so many of you at our booth next week in Portland. Many of you have been emailing to ask what we’re going to have there for you, so I thought I’d share some of the things that you’ll find. Our booth is going to be all about touch. You will find some of the softest, loveliest sock yarns around – many of your favorites!  We’ll have:

DSC02886Numma Numma Toasty
Numma Numma The Usual
Tempted Luxe Grrl
Hand Maiden Casbah
Hand Maiden Swiss Mountain Sock (brand new!)
String Theory Caper
Yarn Pirate
Intentions Yarn by Miss Violet
Dream in Color Smooshy (in 5 exclusive new colors)
Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock (including Sock Summit colorways)
Fiesta Baby Boomerang
Intentions/Yarn Pirate/Gale’s Art/Scarlet Fleece Roving
and of course fun accessories!

DSC02885For those of you who saw the Dye for Glory entries on Ravelry, we’ll have the special colorways from Lorna’s Laces, Numma Numma, Scarlet Fleece, and String Theory for sale at our booth. And watch for special out-of-the-blue Loopy Trivia questions at random times in our booth. There will be prizes!

We shipped a ton out there. Literally. A ton. I’d show you the final photo of palettes and crate, but it’s not for the faint-of-heart. It makes me a bit weak-kneed when I see it. (Mostly because I hope it sells and we don’t have to ship that much back. You all are going to be shopping out there, right??) Here are a few of the boxes that arrived for weeks and stacked up at Loopy. We felt like we had lost a bunch of weight when it all shipped out!

In addition to yarn, roving and accessories, you’ll also find some celebrities spending time in our booth:

1. Loopy Groupies (yes, it’s true. The Loopy Ewe booth will be the best place to find the largest gathering of Loopy Groupies at one time. And you know we have the BEST knitters in the world in our Loopy Groupie bunch. We can’t wait to hang out with you, and we consider you the best celebrities of all!)

2.  Beth Casey, owner of Lorna’s Laces, will be at our booth to meet all of you on Friday and Saturday mornings. She’s an amazing color person. She took the photo of our Loopy Knitting Nook rug and turned it into the anniversary colorway that you all are loving right now! I know you’ll have fun meeting her. Come tell her all of the color combinations that you’d like to see and we’ll work on some new Loopy colorways with her.

3.  Brad and Jeannie Duncan from Fiesta/7 Dimes will be in our booth Friday and Saturday afternoons. We have a hard time keeping Boomerang and Baby Boomerang in stock, because you love it so much. Come meet the couple behind one of your favorite lines, and pick up some Baby Boom while you’re at it.

4.  Allen Butler of Numma Numma will be in our booth on Friday afternoon, which was the only break she had from classes!  We’re so happy she wanted to spend it with us. As you know, Numma Numma is one of those yarns that come in and go out immediately (with barely a pause in between) and there’s a reason for that. Well, two reasons. 1) the yarn base that Allen has spun up and 2) the unique colorways that she comes up with.  You have to meet her.

Of course so many of our awesome indie dyers will also be at The Sock Summit with their own booths. Make sure to stop and see Gryphon at The Sanguine Gryphon booth (where you can also meet Kate of Dragonfly Fibers), Josette at The Enchanted Knoll Farm booth, Stephanie and Mona at the Dye Dreams booth, Kim at the Happy Hands (Toe Jamz) booth, and more. (Plus, there are a couple of our upcoming new indie dyers who will have booths there, but that’s all still a secret!)

Have I mentioned how excited we are to see you? Loopy Elf (aka Office Manager) Susan, Loopy Summer Intern (aka Knitting Daughter) Julia, and I will all be working at the booth, taking care of things for you. We’ve worked hard to bring you a booth packed full of wonderful, touchable, must-have yarn, fun knitting celebrities, and contests. Come see!

For those of you not going to Sock Summit – are you just positive you can’t hop in the car and road trip it?Just spur-of-the-moment like? Throwing caution to the wind? (sigh). Well we haven’t forgotten about you and we don’t want to make you feel sad for missing out. We’ll be blogging and sharing photos next week, to keep you in the loop. (or to keep you “Loopy”.) You’ll also want to check my Monday evening blog post, which will have our August Anniversary Contest (great prizes!) and some more fun information that you’ll want to know. That’s all I’m saying right now. Shhhhh.

And because we’re all about “touch” with our yarns, Web Guy has come up with a brilliant new device called “Loopytouch”.   That’s right, you can now reach through your computer and touch any yarn you’d like on our website. Simply click on the “Search The Loopy Ewe” link in the blue box on the homepage, and then type in the word loopytouch (no spaces) in the search box. We like to think of it as bringing the yarn right into your home.

Now I’m off to spend a fun weekend with my friend Janice and her daughter K, who drove down from Iowa. I expect it to be full of knitting, shopping, lattes, good food, and fun. (Poor WH. I hope he doesn’t feel too left out. It is definitely going to be a GIRLS weekend.)

  1. Have Fun at Sock Summit – but not too much fun! Those of us who didn’t make it will be jealous enough! But I’m sure you left plenty of goodies for us for next week.

How about knitting and drinking wine while getting pedicures? Skip the manicures, you can’t knit while doing that.

Say Hi! to Janice for me!

  2. Sock Summit is too far for me to go. Now you need to do an east coast event so east coast folks can come see you. (I know you were at MDS&W but it was right after Fling FPS.) Come on out to Asheville for SAFF in the fall.

Girls weekend–eat, knit, eat and drink, watch chick flicks, eat and drink some more, shop a little, eat and drink again, maybe play cards or board games, eat and drink…

    y’all have fun

  3. I had a girls weekend in March. We took the train into Chicago and had a Traditional Tea at the Ritz Carlton Garden Room, then stayed at the Palmer House over night. We got dressed up and went to Morton’s Steak House for dinner, then for drinks on the 96th floor of the Hancock and looked at all the beautiful city lights (even the bathrooms has an amazing view), then off to a piano bar till 3 in the morning.

The next morning we had a delicious breakfast at the Hotel and then off to the Art Institute for several hours before grabbing some goodies to eat on the train on the way back. So much fun can’t wait to do it again.

  4. Silly!! I love the LoopyTouch…is it coincidence that after I touched I felt loopier?? have a wonderful Sock Summit…I predict you will be calling the shop to have them send more things out…

  5. I am definitely jealous as I will not be at the Sock Summit. I will be on vacation so I guess that’s good, but OH MY the Sock Summit! All you fellow Loopies that are going I will just have to live vicariously through you.

One of the best girl weekends I have ever had was earlier this year. Some ladies(bout 10 of us) from my knitting/crochet group stayed in a home perched on top of a mountain(awesome views) and knit or crocheted in our PJ’s all weekend. No makeup and all. Perfect girlie weekend for me and hope to do it again. We also did a lil yarn shopping on the way up!

Happy Anniversary to Sheri and all the Loopy Elves! You guys are the best!!!

  6. The sock summit sounds like a blast! Have a good time! Will you be carrying some of the DIC and LL colors? (As if I need anymore yarn!!)

  7. Ok, you got me Sheri. I had to look! Love the loopytouch. ; )

My daughter and I have been enjoying girls week all week long as our men are out of town together. It has been so great. Lots of lounging, knitting, eating, movies, giggling…just having fun hanging out together.

Wish I could be at Sock Summit, but this year it’s just a no go for me. Have a great time. How about bringing Loopy to SAFF in October this year? Oh, please…..

  8. Wish I was going to Sock Summit, it sounds like it will be lots of fun.
Love the loopytouch, it made me laugh.
Most of this summer my brother in law was staying with us recovering from an illness.
He loved to get up in the morning and hide my loopy somewhere in the house and wait for me to spot him. It got to be a fun game. Loopy had some great hiding places, on the ceiling fan, riding statues sitting on lights, hugging candles. Well you get the idea it was fun.

  9. Last year my friends and I spent a “girls long weekend” Thurs to Tues. in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Being from Boston we all went to a Baltimore Boston game wearing shirts I made, Red(of course) with the Red Sox insignia in front and the back was printed “GIRLS FROM BOSTON” so many people stopped us including Larry Luchiano.
The rest of our w/e included fun days at different pubs, the Aquarium, the IMAX, water taxi to Fells Point, and Fort McHenry., a little shopping. I tire very easily and very often could be found sitting at the waters edge with my knitting or back in my room knitting. By nightfal certainly back in my room knitting.

All women should have girls weekends. There is more to like than cooking and cleaning.

  10. Swiss Mountain SOCK???? *faints*

Save me some Vampire Tea Party! Wish I could be there with you all–what an amazing good time you’ll all have!

  11. Wow! Sock Summit with TLE sounds like so much fun. Wish I could be there. But I’ll enjoy from here. Hope you, Susan and Julia have a blast.

My favorite girls’ weekend is eating, taking in a good chick flick, going to the bookstore and talking and catching up. Godiva chocolate is a must at some point. Shopping is fun, too. Nothing like coming home full, happy and with lots of bags.

    Enjoy Portland.

  12. If BFF Liz and I could take the time off, I’d be all for driving out to Sock Summit! We LOVE us a road trip! And especially since there will be Numma Numma. I’ve been trying to snag a Meat and Three forever and it keeps leaping out of my cart. Unfortunately, no more vacation time for me. 🙁 Have a good time, though!

Love that Loopy Touch! heehee…. Yes, I had to look.

Girl’s weekend? Good food, good movies, and plenty of hanging around time. Maybe some shopping thrown in. Overall, just some fun and relative quiet!

  13. it’s too bad our trip to Portland is scheduled for the WEEK AFTER SS!! no fair! (pouts) But Loopy will be joining us on our trek and I’ll have some pics to share.

Hmm – girls weekend – with my sisters and BFFs, handing out, mani pedi time, and knitting/catching up time! The important thing is to spend time together.

    Safe travels!!

  14. Ahh!!! You totally got me on the loopytouch thing!

I am absolutely ecstatic about meeting you next week! You’ve absolutely outdone yourself by adding special guests to your booth!

Enjoy your weekend and have a safe trip out here!

    Michelle

  15. Loopy Touch – HA HA HA!!!!! (that would have been good for April Fools)

Have a great time at Sock Summit – so wish I could be there – will hopefully see you for Spring Fling next April 🙂

  16. Have a great time at Sock Summit. I know you will have a great time. Living on the other coast is just to far to hop in car and go. Is Danny cracking up laughing and all of us who fell hook line and sinker for loopytouch? It made my day, I couldn’t stop laughing after I tried it. Brilliant idea. Hugs

  17. Love the Loopytouch. Made me laugh out loud. Thanks.

A perfect girls weekend would be a cabin in the mountains, no cell phones, no TV, DVD player for movies, and my closest knitting friends, and at least one non-knitter who loves to cook for all of us. Oh, we would knit something for her.

  18. If I had a choice of anywhere I’d want to be next week, it would be Sock Summit, but alas, I’m just too far away. I hope everyone who is lucky enough to go has a blissful time.
Girl’s weekend? Oohhh, I just had a girl’s week with my daughter a few weeks ago. My we had fun! Included was knitting, (learning some new things from her and picking out a “project for the week”), going on long walks, enjoying farmer’s markets, parks, shopping, of course food, both what we cooked and let someone else cook, and having the luxury of girl talk hours on end.
Have oodles of fun at the Summit all you lucky wonderful knitters! I’ll be thinkin’ of ya.

  19. Thanks for giving those of us unable to get to sock summit (i have what i believe to be a really good excuse, but i still wish i could be there) something to smile about. 😉 especially if we had made the mistake of reading all the paragraphs before the last one.

  20. I am pea green. We had to cancel Sock Summit because of my job situation. I still ache when I read about Sock Summit. I wanted to go so bad. Oh well….I’ll read your blog posts and look at all the fun then cross my fingers and toes that there will be a Sock Summit II!!!

  21. Definitely a GOTCHA! But I love the little guys to pieces, so it was fun. How’d you manage to capture that expression, anyway?

  22. Oh how I wish I was going to SS09. I would love to have seen and heard Barbara Walker and Meg Swanson. And now I know I would have spent most of my time in the merchant mall! Isn’t feeling the wool what we all like to do? I used to tell my boys “just look with your eyes” but it seems yarnaholics are unable to do that.
Next summit I hope they hold in Toronto! (Pass it on to Stephanie, will you?!)
    Love the loopytouch! Brilliant!

  23. I wish I could just hop in the car and drive out! The drive to Portland (from inland) is one of my favourites, because you follow the Columbia River for miles, and it’s always thrilling.

Have fun at Sock Summit! I hope you don’t ship anything back!

  24. I am prepared to place a small wager that you come back empty-handed – remember how many of us are supposed to be there….

and your weekend makes me think of time I spend with my BFF Kelly – whenever we get together, it’s yarn, lattes, and giggling… have fun!

  25. Okay, Sheri, I fell hook, line and sinker for your trick. I didn’t know it was April Fool’s Day! I trusted Web Guy so much that I just knew something fabulous had been invented. Went – right – there!

Love your blog and site. Wouldn’t miss a day. Thanks for poking fun and being fun! Can’t wait to see what you do next.

  26. I am green with envy for all of you who will be at the Sock Summit. Virginia is a long way from Oregon. Sigh. Have fun!!

  27. My body will be here in OK. My heart will be at SS. Have fun and thanks for thinking for all of us getting ready for back to school. Had it been anywhere from St. Louis to Denver, I would have been there. Maybe next time.

  28. Can you just reach down and pick me up on the way???? I won’t be going to Sock Summit but I am really looking forward to your blog posts.

Please take pictures of the booth before it is ransacked so I can see what I am missing out on.

    .

  29. I’d love to see the “after” picture–what gets shipped back. I’m thinking it will be verrrry small.

Have fun. Hope to see you there!

  30. Love to be at the Sock Summit, but too far to drive. Maybe they should move it to the east coast next year.

  31. well darn and here i was thinking “wow, webguy has really out done himself this time” lol.
Hope you guys have a great time at Sock Summit! I wish i could afford the airfare and car hire – but that’s ok i will get to see all your photo’s and be there vicariously through you all 🙂

Here’s a thought .. maybe they should make it an international thing in the future 😉 can you just imagine the fun australian customs would have with all those knitters and knitting needles coming in to the country ?

  32. If my husband knew exactly how much space I have reserved in my bag for acquisitions of yarn, he would faint, or throw up! See you at Sock Summit!!

  33. Hope SockSummit10 is on the East Coast of USA or Canada so all of us that REALLY want to be there but can’t pay for the air fare/hotel & class costs could afford to go…air fare is really prohibitive…Sigh! And we also LOVE to knit socks and we are really NICE people!!

  34. Just finishing my road trip with the girls to Mt. Rushmore. I don’t think I could have convinced them to keep driving to Portland so I’ll just have to live vicariously through the rest of you.

So my recommendation for a girls week – Mt. Rushmore, Sturgis and the Badlands. Stop at the Frontier Cabins in Wall, SD. A great spot to spend the night and the rooms are worth the prices (real beds!!!!)

Have a safe trip and much success.
    Kimknits

  35. Dream In Color Smooshy in new colors! Will you be getting more in for when you return for those of us who cannot go? Would love to see them.

  36. OK – I had to look! I knew I was setting myself up, but we can’t be sensible all the time can we? Have a great week, wish I wasn’t so many thousands of miles away.

  37. OK -I admit – I had to try the loopy touch- it brought me a good laugh-can’t come to SS cause I’m having surgery tomorrow but I got my anniversary box in the mail the other day so I’ll have my tea in my new Loopy mug

  38. I’ll admit, I am envious of everyone going to Sock Summit, but this is why I love the internets so much — I know that everyone there will have tremendous blog fodder and I can live vicariously through them! Have the best time!!!

  39. cute, i fell for it! i have to admit, i did not totally get the sock summit (what it was about) when i first heard about it, now i totally want to go!

  40. For me a girls night out is usually a cheesy movie (at someone’s house) and dinner either in or at a restaurant. When my friends and I did this regularly, someone would always ask the maitre d for a waiter with a cute butt.

  41. Have fun at Sock Summit! I do suspect that “crowd control” will be necessary around your booth. Cannot wait for the photos. So glad Susan and Julia will join you. I know you all will work hard, but have some fun too! Safe travels.
