This morning I was sitting at my desk answering emails, and the Loopy doorbell rang. It was almost 10:00, which means that shopping hours were starting, and the Loopy Elves were due to be arriving. (Fridays are our Late Start days – we don’t come in until around 10 am. We love Fridays!) I knew that the Elves would just walk in, so I figured this must be shoppers. When I opened the door, there stood this delightful group! (Terri, Emily, Marjie, Anita, Kay and Karen.) They drove up from Oklahoma just to do some yarn shopping and have a fun Girls Knitting Weekend. Doesn’t that sound like an excellent group to be a part of? Not only that, but they were just a joy to have here. We made them promise to come back again some time. 🙂 Thursdays and Fridays are our in-store-shopping days and we’re usually pretty busy. Since most of you know the routine around here (new stuff goes up on Monday or Tuesday, all of the Sneak Up orders for the week are typically out by Wednesdays), you also understand why we only have in-store shopping on Thursdays and Fridays (and by appt.). You keep us way too busy to do both, earlier in the week. And we like that about you! Fortunately, our post office cooperates by scheduling our mail pickups between 3 and 4 pm, and we’re still able to get the orders out on
Thursdays and Fridays, in between all of that. All in all, Fridays are usually a fun day around here. (You know that we don’t put things up for sale here in person until they’ve gone up on the website for all of you, right? Look at these cute signs – attached to a knitting needle – that Elf Anna came up with. We just stick them in the new stuff that hasn’t gone up yet and it works great!)
We are, however, still buried in boxes. This week we put up more Mini Mochi, Araucania Itata, new Lorna’s Laces colors, Noro Silk Garden, Malabrigo Worsted, Dream in Color Smooshy, Cascade Fixation, Cascade Eco Alpaca, and S.R. Kertzer On Your Toes Bamboo. More boxes have arrived over the past few days. Depending on what we can get photo-ed and up, you might find these yarns/lines next week. (Anything that doesn’t go up next week, will be up the week after for sure.) Colinette Jitterbug, Fiesta Ballet, The Sanguine Gryphon Kypria, Dye Dreams, Jade Sapphire Cashmere Lace, Dragonfly Fibers, Lime & Violet Intentions yarn, Tuscan Grove Bellagio, Dream in Color Classy, Cherry Tree Hill, and Farmhouse Bonnie’s Bamboo and Fannie’s Fingering. Still waiting on the new Magic Ball yarn from Skacel, the new Pearl line from Lorna’s Laces, and some indie dyer yarns that are enroute. (See? Buried in boxes. More on the way FPS. And hey – someone told me that Rachael Ray said “FPS” on her tv show this week. She stole my saying. What’s up with that??)
I do have a new recipe for you today. Elf Mary brought this in for us to enjoy one day for lunch and I’ve already made it for my family. It’s delicious, and I hope you enjoy it.
2 lbs. hamburger
1/2 of an onion, chopped
2 (16 oz) cans of pinto beans, undrained
1 (16 oz) can of petite diced tomatoes
1 can of Rotell tomatoes with chilies
1 can of chili without beans (like Brooks)
16 oz. low fat sour cream
1/2 lb. Velveeta
Brown the hamburger and onion together, and drain. In a separate pot, heat up everything else. When it’s hot, add in the meat and mix well. Serve with tortilla chips on the side. Makes a lot!
My weekend consists of a little bit of Loopy work and then some hanging out with these two three characters. I have the first 3 discs of Bones Season Two (thank you, Netflix) and am ready to jump into them with some knitting on the side. I’m working on a new indie dyer yarn that is due to arrive sometime in March, and I’m knitting it up into my first pair of Jaywalkers (free pattern on Ravelry, thank you Grumperina!). The yarn is a hand-dyed self-striping and I love watching the pattern emerge. (Poor WH has to spend the weekend working on tax stuff at his work. Doesn’t that sound fun?) What are your weekend plans? Any good movies to watch? Any fun new patterns and yarns to work with? Any big hikes to go on? Any taxes to do?
Sheri whowantsyoutoknowthattomorrowwe’llhit60degreeshereinSt.Louis
Between my three kids we have seven basketball games to attend this weekend. In five different gyms. Can you say bring knitting for halftime?
The kitties look so cute!!
Most of my weekend is the same old hamster-wheel stuff, but I’ll also be getting my stuff together for Madrona (fiber arts/knitting conf) which is next Thu-Sun and I have a class EACH! DAY! I’m so excited. Lucy Neatby, Beth Brown-Reinsel, Nancy Bush, and Sally Melville – plus the Yarn Harlot and Elsebeth Lavold and others at the dinner and hanging out. I mean, what more could you want to banish the winter blahs?
What beautiful eyes the kitty on the right has! She looks like she’s wearing eyeliner!
BTW, when do you get more of those Valentine kits. I missed out! 🙁
well, i am open on the books so for now just on call. overcoming a cold so may still be in bed! need to run a few errands though and get serious about starting seedlings for the garden soon, cleaning up the garage, etc….then i would love to play doing hobby things i enjoy!
How’d you get the kitty bookends to pose like that? They both have such sweet expressions. Of course I love Loopy, too. You have great weekend pals.
This weekend is the big packing weekend – we move next week! The stash is packed, but not much else. So I won’t be getting much knitting in, alas.
Hi Sheri! Sounds like you and the kitties are going to have a nice weekend. I hope I can get some good kitty and knitting time in too, but it’s going to be tough. I have a birthday dinner with my sis and brother in law tonight at The Melting Pot (YUM!) and tomorrow I’m going to see the musical Chicago. Sunday, we’re planning a trip up to Mt. Evans to do some snowshoeing.
Have a great weekend!
My hubby might actually get a day off this week! (Rarely happens) I need to knit a teddy bear hat for a friend who is having a baby next week and hopes to finish my “No Cables” Fargyles socks . Planning on watching Space Buddies with kids and Fireproof with hubby. The kiddos have bball games, birthday parties and a scouting outing to go ice skating (if its not melted.). Have a great weekend!
Hi Sheri,
I hope you enjoy the warm weather! It’s headed my way (Virginia). I am a new loopy fan so I give up…. what does FPS mean?
What a great list of stuff coming up. I’m hoping one of the indie dyers not specified is Zen String.
Also, what is that fantastic yarn in the picture with the cute sign?
(Not like I need more. I’ve just been moping/worrying about the economy. But at least I’ll have wool to keep us warm!)
60 DEGREES!! What a heat wave – break out the capris! Here in WI, we’re expecting 40’s. It’s a promissing start to spring.
I work for a CPA firm, so I know all about tax season stuff. Hubby & I don’t even have all of our statements yet, so I can’t begin. Guess I can knit, huh?
I may have to suggest a road trip with Hubby on our Goldwing motorcycle to visit TLE sometime. I’m sure it would be a pretty ride.
Have a warm, relaxing weekend with your bright-eyed kitties.
I know some of those women. I have been down to visit their LYS, Gourmet Yarn, in OKC. They are a lot of fun to be around. I need a trip to Loopy Ewe.
Hi Sherri,
It’s going to be in 50’s and 60 here in Virginia this weekend, so I plan go getting my SUV washed. It’s about time, it looks like it been painted white (salt from out last bout of winter weather). Other than that some knitting and playing with my dog.
I too missed out on the Valentine Kit, any chance of getting any more? I just love Stacy’s yarn from Tempted.
Have a nice weekend!
Since it will hit 50 degrees here in So. PA/MD, I’m driving down to MD to join my daughter for some outlet shopping while hubby works on computers at church and taxes. Ah, such a life! Then knitting in the evening.
Hi Sherri,
I just got my FIRST order from you today. Thank you,Thank you, Thank you. I
love all of them. You helped me with these sock yarns on the phone.
I have one question what yarn is in the picture on your Blog today 01/6/09 ?.
Have a nice weekend. In Ca. we will be rainy all weekend. 3 storms in a row. We
always go BIG here (mud slides will happen)
Bye-Bye
I work on Saturdays but I get to knit..My WH goes to work this Saturday & then he will continue on the taxes..then 3 more weeks I will be at Stitches West!!!
Tomorrow we’ll hit 60 degrees in NC too. Glad you’re better and back on line. I really missed you. I did knitting night tonight and tomorrow I hope that I’ll finish my first lace shawl All-Over Lace Faroese. This one is a prayer shawl. Then I’m going to try to finish my Daily Sweater. I’m working on another pair of Snow on Cedars Mitts of KAL and hope to cast on my clapotis soon.
I haven’t knitted a pair of socks since early January and am experiencing sock knitting withdrawal. I hope to cast on socks soon too.
Friday,work,Saturday,work,Sunday knit, puppies
A hike sounds like a lovely idea.
DH taxes are done and filed, I am still waiting for one paper then….
Nothing exciting, just same old same old here…we may hit 47…woohoo look out old fieldstone foundation, water is on its way, LOL
Your three characters look like a great bunch to hang out with! Enjoy Bones (a great show, I agree) and the lovely weather.
We’re going to have a warm-up in Boston, too–very welcome after all the snow and cold, even to this winter lover!
Tomorrow we’re having a KAL with James and my other Girasole buddies. I am (finally) knitting the border of the thing, and have finished about 130 out of the necessary 213 points. It’s gonna be done before the weekend is over…and then on to a new project!
Have to go play at a wedding tomorrow evening, and going to hear the Symphony on Sunday.
No taxes yet!
Hi Sheri,
Your cats are so darn cute! Going to take care of my mom in Sacramento tomorrow and will be gone from home for a week. She had knee surgery on Tuesday and needs help doing the daily living stuff. Say a little prayer for her if you don’t mind. She is a big TLE fan and shops with you guys also. She is the sock queen in my life. 🙂 Taking my two sons, 4 and 18 months with me as well since DH is in Asia for business. FPS!! I say it too, all the time. 🙂 So, say a little prayer for me too since I’ve never traveled on an airplane with the kids solo yet.
Wow! 60 degrees! That’s warmer than it is here in Southern California this weekend. We’re in the middle of a storm right now that is so welcome, you wouldn’t believe it. Enjoy your knitting, the cats, and watching Bones. Gotta love Netflix!
What an adorable photo of Loopy and the kitties! We’re expecting slightly warmer weather over here, but it comes with rain. That, along with all the melted snow from our last storm, means our little river is full right now. Very pretty. It also means a lot of mud is getting tracked in. I’m knitting a cowl from sKnitches Big Tryst but I might have to put it down and clean the floors! At least no taxes to worry about; tax season here is in September!
I have a very ealry fund raiser to go to Sat. morning. I plan on knitting while the girl child mans the table (it is her fund raiser after all)
Warmer weather here too. It was almost 50 today. Seems strange since we still have a lot of ice and snow on the ground.
Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your Bones dvds
The weekend here so far involves a lot of reading for my Senior Seminar class, buying a new refrigerator since our old one just croaked, and watching the husband mull over which big screen tv to get with the tax refund money.
I think I will pop in Repo the Genetic Opera tonight, and sing along while knitting up my very first pair of Monkey socks. Or I may finish up the long gloves I am knitting up out of some Creatively Dyed Calypso yarn in Kiss Sheri, which I have dubbed my Bloody Valentine Gloves (I know a little morbid but that’s what they demand to be called lol).
Enjoy Bones, I love that series 😀
Oh gosh, very similar weekend. Taxes to do, planning on watching some 80’s goodness in movies–Labyrinth (the Jennifer Connally/David Bowie/Henson one) and Legend (Cruise/Sara/Scott). I have a Moebius Cowl on the needles in some Hand Maiden 100% Cashmere I stumbled across last summer and Cat Bordhi’s moebius knitting style is certainly fun and intriguing. The cashmere is totally to die for; its so soft and feels so wonderful, it’s just perfect for a cowl.
Today, on the first above freezing day in weeks, our small town is having a chili cook off; I get to work the children’s game tent. Tomorrow my son returns from his trip to Memphis competing in the International Blues competition. Can’t wait to hear how it went!
Your fur babies are so cute!!
This weekend I’m hoping to finish some UFOs, but with the weather so nice (I’m just across the river) I might have to spend some time outside.
I have a good weekend lined up. Saturday morning is knitting with a bunch of friends at Brentwood Borders cafe, Sunday afternoon is a post National Novel Writing Month get-together with a bunch of writing friends. Totally different sets of people, all great fun to be with. Even for a total introvert like me.
I have a very similar weekend –I got the first season of Northern Exposure from Netflix and am going to watch that, knit a sock and hang out with the two dogs. It’s also going to be warm here, hopefully enough to melt all this ice! I’m tired of almost getting whiplash just from walking out to my car and slipping on it. Normally, I just take whatever weather we’re having and be happy I’m alive to see it, but this winter, I am just so done with the extreme cold and the ice. Have a great weekend!
Brian and I are gonna work on the driveway out to where we will be building our house in the near future. We are a bit more than halfway once there the clearing will begin YAY!!! Besides that We will spend some more quality time knitting (he is knitting again too 🙂 ) and watching CSI season 8 on DVD
I wish hiking were a possibility- but the trails are snowed under.
Saturday am will find me working, and I will do errands in the pm, then finish up any work odds and ends. Ain’t partial self-employment grand! A movie this evening too.
Tomorrow is a get together at a friend’s house in the country. It should be a good break- hoping for decent weather.
Glad to hear it is warming up in St. Louis- my oldest sister lives there (U City) and she was telling us about all the snow and cold temps of late.
You’ll hit 60, wow, I’m jealous! We’re at 46, with 30 mph winds so far, might be lucky to hit 50 here. We have so much snow on the ground that lower lying areas may get some flooding.
I need to wind up our tax year for our small business, print out the accounting stuff, copy the forms, etc, so I can get them to our accountant to get the 1120S form done. I can’t do anything with our personal taxes, until we get the 1120S form back, not to mention that form has a filing date of 3/15.
I love your kitties with Loopy picture! How did you get them to look so intently at the camera? And, your recipe sounds wonderful! I wish I could make it here, but one son is allergic to milk products & another doesn’t like beans, sigh! Someday, I will make it. 🙂
The kitty photo is adorable! How sweet to get them posing together. Both of my orders arrived on Thursday so I had my own Loopy celebration! LOVE the Valentine’s Day kit…and the fabric yarn ball holder…and my yarn. Have a wonderful weekend!
I hope you had a fabulous weekend here. I am so excited about the Lime and Violet Intentions yarn. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I get lucky this week.
We were in Cape Girardeau at a swim meet this weekend. Nothing like spending two days waiting hours for those few minutes that your child swims. Can’t wait for next weekend when we get to do it all over again.
I may have to come visit Loopy Central for some fiber therapy in order to survive.
Your cats look so adorable! We spent the weekend cleaning up and trying (unsuccessfully) to finish the unpacking. I still have to find homes for about 6 or so more boxes worth of stuff. Sigh.
I love Bones. I bet you’ll enjoy it. You’ll have to tell me what you think of the changes they made between Season 1 and Season 2.
We spent part of yesterday helping with Orphan Foundation’s Red Scarf Valentine’s Day care package stuffing! What a zoo, but a lot of fun! Hubby said later that they didn’t need us (I dragged him along), but if everyone who thought that stayed home, they would have needed us!
I made the Mexican Soup this weekend. It is wonderful!
Sheri,
Thanks so much for the warm welcome. We had such a great time in your shop last Friday. It is numero uno on our list of shops in St. Louis. We will be back!
Kay
I made the soup tonight and it was truly a winner!!!
