It’s January, which means another Challenge or Knit-A-Long! (Not that these Big Guys are knitting. Rather, they seem to be stirring up trouble here at Loopy Central at the moment.) I had something in mind for this quarter, but in the meantime, Anne in MD started a Clapotis Knit-A-Long on the Loopy Groupie board on Ravelry. There are so many of you working on that (myself included!) that I think it’s wise not to muddy up the waters and add yet another one. So – jump in and join us! It started January 1st and you will find the pattern for free on Knitty.com (here’s the Clapotis link by the brilliant Kate Gilbert). I’m making mine out of some Hand Maiden Sea Silk that I had in my stash. (Well, technically it was in my stash because I frogged the project I had started with it. Twice.) This is the first time I’ve done a Clapotis and I’m having a lot of fun with it. There’s something refreshing about purposely dropping stitches and watching them unravel. 🙂 Now I really want to make another one out of Amy’s Vintage Office. It’s on my new list. So leave a comment below if you’re participating in this KAL with us. The fun thing about the Clapotis is that you can use any yarn that strikes your fancy. Different weights and materials will render different sizes and draping, but it’s all fun. If you’re on Ravelry, check out the Clapotis link to see what others have used and how it looks. I’m not sure when it ends on the Loopy Groupie board, but we’ll leave it open here for the first quarter, meaning you should finish by 3/31 and have your photos posted by 4/15. (Here’s a tip from Sandy in WY that I thought was great. She added a stitchmarker to the very bottom starting point of her triangle, to keep it from curling up. I wish I had known that when I started, as it about drove me nuts. I’ll definitely use that tip on the next one.) Be sure to add your photos from the 4th Qtr. Challenge ’08 to the Photo Gallery by 1/15 so that we can vote and award prizes.
Update on the things that many of you have been emailing me about and asking!
1. We do have Schaefer’s new Nichole yarn on order and the first part of our order is shipping out this week. We’ll have it up asap. We may put the first half up and then the rest later when it arrives, instead of making you wait for the whole thing. We also do have more Anne, Lola and Andrea on order for you.
2. Namaste’s Zuma Eggplant order is stuck in Customs at the moment. They’re hoping they’ll have it to ship out to all of their shops by mid-January. They know we’re all anxious to get it in! If you are on our pre-order list, we still have one with your name on it for you. If you did not pre-order and want to, I do still have a few available from this first order. Email me.
3. Sock Club details coming in Friday’s Blog Post. Sign-ups begin next Monday, the 12th.
4. Malabrigo Sock and Worsted – have been on order for a long time, and we’re not sure when it will be in. But we’re looking forward to getting it.
5. I’m heading off to our twice-a-year TNNA Market in a week, so that I can stay on top of all of the new yarns and trends for you! Email me if there is any line/yarn you’d like me to look into while I’m there. I’ll add it to my list.
6. Did you catch this week’s Sneak Up? We added lots of Hand Maiden Casbah, bellamoden Fingering, new Tempted Roving, Gypsy Knits DK, Loopy Soap, Romney Ridge Calendars, Addi Clicks, Opal Wintermarchen, and patterns from Figheadh and Nelkin Designs.
Lastly, Happy 25th Anniversary to my Wonderful Hubby. 🙂 I remember thinking 25 years was a long long time when my parents celebrated their 25th. It seems to go pretty fast when you’re the one in it! We were married on a cold, snowy night and it was beautiful. I added this particular photo because so many of you know my friend Janice, and if I’m going to show what Paul and I looked like 25 years ago, then I think you ought to see Janice and Steve, too. It was a fun weekend with all of our favorite friends and family there with us!
Happy Anniversary, Sheri. What a great picture, too.
I am excited to be a part of the KAL, that is a pattern I have been wanting to knit for a long time. I have the yarn the pattern calls for from a few years past and I think I will just knit mine with that.
Happy 25th! I think you all look the same today as 25 years ago. I am in the Clapotis KAL and will be using my wollmeise, Frosh. I have to finish my swap partner’s project first then I will be casting on.
Happy Anniversary. I am always happy to know people who are married for a long time. You have a wonderful family and share that with all of us through TLE.
Thank you and I hope you have another 25 more together.
Happy 25th Anniversary, Sheri & Paul! Congratulations! What a cool photo of a quartet of friends! 🙂
Happy 25th Anniversary! What a nice picture to share.
DH and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary as well, later this month. It didn’t snow the day we got married but I think the high temp was 10 degrees that day. It was very cold and windy!
Enjoy your special day.
yup, count me in as well! maybe this coming weekend i can cast on for it, yeah!! love some of those yarns…sea silk….mmmmmm!
Happy 25th Anniversary, Sheri and WonderHubby! I’m not in the Clapotis KAL yet, but will be in a few minutes! I’m already working on one, using Trekking XXL. The intended recipient is so frail, I didn’t want to weigh her down with the original yarn. It’s coming out beautifully so far.
Happy Anniversary Sheri and Paul. Wonderful memories these past 25 years. Love, Mum
Happy Anniversary…we were married on a snowy day also. Feb 13, 1971!! in Louisville, Ky. WOW it’s how long ago!! O my. Have 25 more great years!
Happy Anniversary! It’s a great photo!
I’m using the Jojoland melody for my clapotis and have just about finished the increase section.
Congrats on your anniversary!
I am participating in the Clapotis KAL and I am using Lorna’s Laces Shepard Sport in Blackwatch. I love being able to drop a stitch and watch it unravel…it feels slightly rebelious to not pick the dropped stitch back up. ;p
Happy 25th Anniversary Sheri! I am participating in the Clap KAL and I am using Wollmeise Dani. I’m just starting the straight section.
Happy Anniversary, Sheri & WH! Dh and I will celebrate our…drum roll please…35th in June (Good Lord willing). The time just flies, I agree.
I can’t see why anybody would want to look just the same after 25 years! LOL You look like sweet babies in that wedding pic. And you look fabulous now! It’s all good.
No Cla-po-tee for meeee. I’m knitting up the 2nd anniversary Loopified Casbah as 2-socks-at-once-on-two-circs (super simple technique…what was I leery about?). It’s fab yarn, and I have a red/black/grey-theme-lovin’ friend who’ll be very happy with the socks!
Happy Anniversary Sheri!
I’m really enjoying ‘leading’ the Clapotis KAL! It’s my first time: to lead one AND to knit the Clapotis. 😉 Lots of EYECANDY when one searches by our special ‘tag’. ♥ Anyone can join but please cast on before Jan 31st.
We are honored that you’ve chosen to join us too Sheri! It’s very loose but ‘rules’ are on the very first post. Knit on! We’re all just ‘knitting until finished’ but I like that you’ve given some sort of end date here for FOs and pics. Anyone who doesn’t finish by then is stil invited to continue until finished, and can still do discussions on the thread.
LOVE the wedding pic — you guys are all BABIES. Of course, you all still look exactly like you did then. 😀
Happy Anniversary Sheri! Of course y’all look the same as 25 years ago. Forever young! Have a great day!
Happy Anniversary!!! 25 years – how wonderful!!! : )
One of these days I’ll make a Clapotis – I still feel like I have way to many WIPs, so I am committed to finishing them first. Must be disciplined!
Just wanted to wish you a Happy Anniversary. We will celebrate our 28th this summer.
BTW: CD graduated in December and will begin grad school next week. In the past couple of years she has moved from thinking my knitting was “cute” to loving her handknit socks to knitting scarves with cheap acrylic to taking a liking to the “good stuff” to buying her first skeins of Noro to teaching several college friends to knit. It has all just made me smile. As I told her – that is how this thing called knitting has lived on through the years. Knitting has even made an impression on my 17 year old son who drove to my favorite LYS and bought me a gift certificate for Christmas. It wasn’t the gift that touched me the thought that went into it . Wow – this is long…sorry.
As I said – Happy Anniversary!
I haven’t made a Clapotis yet (and I wasn’t sure I was ever going to), but I have seen a number on Ravelry made from a single skein of sock yarn. I was mostly looking at the Malabrigo sock yarn ones, but there are a lot of good examples in the Dream in Color yarns too. So delicious!
Happy 25th!! What a milestone! All four of you still look about the same now as you did then, well, maybe a *couple* of years older, but pretty much the same! I had thought about joining in the Clapotis KAL but I think I’m going to have to pass on it, and maybe do a mini-KAL with a couple of SnB friends later in the year. Right now, I’m working on my Loopy Swap project, and participating in the Spring Fling January KAL, and I have several other projects that I need to do (which haven’t been started yet) before I’d have the time for Clapotis. (Meanwhile, I’ll be eyeing everyone else’s for ideas!)
Count me in on the Clapotis KAL. I’ve had that on my long list of projects to start.
I’m working on the Clapotis KAL with my All Things Heather Silk Merino. And I think you all look exactly the same too. You’re all gorgeous. Congratulations to you and WH on your milestone anniversary. My DH and I will be celebrating our 25th anniversary in a year and a bit. I’m trying to figure out how that can be since I don’t feel anything like old enough for our marriage to have been legal 23.5 years ago. I mean I’d have been 10 right? LOL
I’m in the KAL with Handmaiden Seasilk in Wildflower. It was so charming to see the wedding photo. I had no trouble at all recognising you from your current photo, Sheri.
Hey. I’m in for the Clapotis KAL. It has been really fun to see where this pattern goes. I’m using 2 skeins of GK DK and alternating, and the yarn and colors are stunning.
I love that picture – thanks for sharing!
Woot woot for your anniversary!!! Hope you all had a wonderful dinner the other night!
I’m doing my first Clapotis in the KAL on Rav; I’m using Wollmeise Versuchskaninchen 1 that I was lucky enough to get here in November!!!
Hi Sheri. Count me in for the KAL. I’m going to use some 3-ply fingering weight yarn I spun from some Tempted roving. I’ve been trying to figure out what to make out of it, and I think the Clapotis is the perfect pattern.
Happy 25th to you and your WH! May you have another 25 years, and beyond, to spend in love together. I just found a skein in my stash which should be perfect for a Clapotis, and I will cast on just as soon as I finish up the little something extra I’m knitting for my swap partner.
Congratulations on 25 years together! Best wishes for the next 25 years and beyond.
I’m using the Amy Friendly yarn for the Clapotis KAL, and I love it. I’ve never worked with bamboo before, but it feels scrumptious when mixed with silk! And the colors are gorgeous. Have fun with the Seasilk, then try another with this stuff.
Belated congratulations on your 25th anniversary! And best wishes for the next 25!
We just celebrated our 18th in December—there was snow on the ground then, too!
Whee! I’m definitely in on the Clapotis. I’m using Mmmmmaaaalabrigo in Autumn Forest!
And HUGE congrats on your 25th! It takes special people to stay together that long, and you certainly are that!
I’ve been wanting to make Clapotis for the longest time, so count me in! I have to clear some WIPs out of the way first though.
BTW, the feed to Bloglines isn’t working properly for me. I noticed it today and had unread blogpost since New Year.
And of course congratulations on your 25th!
I have failed to complete a single Clapotis because it’s such a LOOOOONG process of the same stitches…but maybe this time…for a KAL, I can actually finish one.
Count me in!
I’m using some Sanguine Gryphon Kypria in Nemesis. So pretty. So so pretty. =)
I’m in on the KAL, I’m just so far behind on things, this is the first chance I’ve had to get my ducks in a row 🙂
Happy Anniversary, Sheri & Paul! We’re right behind you — 23 years this June!
Count me in on the Clapotis KAL. No pictures yet; need to get my card reader fixed.
Happy anniversary, Sheri and Paul.
Count me in for the clapotis. This will be my fifth clapotis – I have given away three of them. It’s a fun knit.
Joining late, but still interested. Have some handspun from roving purchased at TLE that I’m excited to try.
I’m in…mine is already done, but I haven’t posted the pictures yet, so I will do that soon.
I just finished up my Clapotis for the Q1-09 Challenge/KAL. I really loved the Bellagio yarn – I will definitely use it again in the future. The colors are just gorgeous and the yarn is really soft. I sent a photo for the Gallery as well.
