It’s a Perfect Day For ….

… Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate from Starbucks. Have you tried that yet? (Or their Hazelnut Hot Chocolate?) YUM.  Of course they didn’t put these square marshmallows in there – those are from Trader Joes.  What is hot chocolate without marshmallows? I’m also looking forward to the Peppermint Marshmallows that appear at Trader Joes in time for the holidays. So good in Peppermint Hot Chocolate.

… Going through your stash and finding a skein of yarn that is perfect for a project you want to knit up and get done in time for the holidays. It’s always fun to pay a visit to my stash, because there are things in there that I forgot that I had. (Sad.)  There was a time when I only bought “one project ahead”, but I got over that soon enough. Now I love having many different options when I feel like starting something new. (And many different options when the economy is tanking and I might not feel like spending the money to buy something new. We must insure that our knitting habit never suffers, right? Having a stash insures that we won’t run out of yarn to use.)

… Getting rid of things in your stash that you will never use. (And in fact, you’re not sure why you bought it in the first place, and you wonder what you were thinking?)

... Making your list of gifts that need to be knitted, and making sure you have everything that you need to finish each project. (Should I mention that we only have 62 days until Christmas? Or is that information that you just don’t need to know?)

… Finding a few new things to buy at The Loopy Ewe, to replace the space vacated by the stash you got rid of. (See, I’m not suggesting getting rid of stash so that you have less. Stash is a good thing. I’m just  suggesting getting rid of the stuff you’ll never use. Of course you have to fill in those empty holes. And of course you knew I’d say that!) 🙂

… Whipping up some comfort food for dinner this weekend. This is our favorite meatloaf recipe and I hope you like it, too!

Victorian Sampler Meatloaf

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 cup cracker crumbs
2 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup chopped onions (optional)
2 Tbl. chopped green pepper (optional)
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 Tbl. Worcestershire sauce
4 oz. tomato sauce

Sauce

1/2 cup ketchup
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 Tbl. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. mustard

Mix meatloaf ingredients in order given and shape into a loaf.  Bake in 1 1/2 qt. loaf pan for 1 1/4 hours at 350 degrees.  Remove from oven, drain, and pour sauce over the top.  Return to oven for another 15 minutes.

I just talked to my friend Janice, who is spending a weekend in Sedona, AZ. She said, “It’s beautiful here – 80 degrees and sunny!  What’s it like there today?”  I said, “Oh, it’s a beautiful day here, too.  Cloudy and cool and I just love it!”  She said, “You’re so weird.”  It’s a wonder that we’re friends…

So what is it a “perfect day for” in your neck of the woods?

  1. I’m thinking that the salted caramel hot chocolate sounds good right now and may have to take a trip to Starbucks when my co-worker comes back from lunch. In the meantime, back to the knitting (shhhhh…don’t tell,I’m knitting at my desk!)

  2. A day of peace with no interruptions or political phone calls. I hope the weather
gets better. Getting some knitting done.

  3. Yes, Sheri, today is the perfect day to reduce the stash.

My husband has been commenting almost daily about all the wool I have! So, I started the “Abby” cowl from knitty last night with some 2-ply Handmaiden cashmere that I bought from you a while back.

    Have a good weekend!

  4. today’s weather is perfect – 58 degrees, sunny, with a light breeze. I even rode my bike to work today!

Your meatloaf recipe is the same one that my family has used for many years! It’s even better cold in sandwiches!

  5. There’s HOW MANY days left until Christmas? *panics a little*

I think I may need one of those salted caramel hot chocolates to soothe me from that thought.

Around here, it’s cold and threatening to rain, but Skate America (figure skating competition) is being held down the street, so I think it’s the perfect day for trying out my new hand warmers and sitting in a cold ice rink!

  6. The Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate is AMAZING!!!! Marshmallows would only make it better….. remind self to get next Wed at Trader Joe’s……

It’s a SAFF kind of day for me tomorrow, after a Rascal Flatts kind of night last night. It’s amazing I’m still awake and reading this (the show wasn’t even in GA…..but SO worth it!) At least I’m riding up with LYS so I can knit (or sleep) instead of drive……..

    Enjoy your weekend Sheri!!

  7. Today is a perfect day for getting the house cleaned up and laundry done and then popping in a good movie and kitting. Unfortunately, I’m working today and my son has a weekend long swim meet that starts at 4pm today. ick. I do have to say that swim meets are great for getting in 3-4 hours of solid knitting time, the only bummer is that it starts Saturday and Sunday morning at 7am. ugh!

I am putting your meatloaf recipe on my list of things to make in the coming week. It sounds ymmy!

  8. I just got back from Sedona about a month ago, and I agree with Janice, it is so beautiful there. I didn’t want to leave. I would definately rather be there than here, in gloomy, cold, rainy IN.

  9. Oh mine! Today’s a perfect day for curling under the blankets with some hot chocolate and a book or some knitting (or my ever-growing blanket) while it’s raining out (what fun it was to walk around campus in the rain). Those marshmallows looks so good in that hot chocolate – I’ll have to make me some hot chocolate before work tonight.

  10. Salted??? hot chocolate. Never heard of it…what is it and where does one get it? Glad you liked the Halloween sock video…

Perfect day…hmmm. No obligations (I have to go play an outdoor (!) weeding this afternoon/eve…are these young brides nuts???). Someone else to do the cooking. No chores. No phone calls. No bills. Some nice knitting projects to finish. A cozy fire in the fireplace. Oh yeah, and a batch of freshly baked cookies!! And chocolate. All with no detectable calories!

  11. It’s a perfect day for (or would be if at home and not work):

–going to SAFF since I live in NC (I canceled my trip due to economic concerns. I figure I can expand stash from home via internet). My KF keep twisting my arm to drive up Sunday but 7-8 hour round trip alone is too far.

–drinking hot chocolate or spiced cider and eating popcorn

–knitting my vest, my mitts (cast on my Snow on Cedars with handspun last night) or power socks and watching “Baby Mama” which came from Netflix today.

    –spinning

(I may have to try some Starbucks hot chocolate Monday at knit night)

  12. Funny you should mention stash acquisition… I think that today is a perfect day for getting some yarn to knit a baby blanket (for a baby who’s due Christmas eve!). And for knitting with my knitting group. And for spinning some more of my lovely Sanguine Gryphon roving, and for reading a book out loud to my girls.

If only it were cool and cloudy here (my favorite weather, too), but it’s not…

  13. I’ve been wondering about those salted caramel chocolates. I just semi-ruined it with a look at the nutritional info though – that would have to be a special treat I guess (even with the soy). Funny you posted a meatloaf recipe today. I went grocery shopping last night and stared dully at the sandwich lunch meats and decided I really needed to make a meatloaf this weekend so I could have something different in a couple sandwiches next week! Rain or now rain, this is a perfect weekend to get my knitting mojo back. I’ve got some good Netflix stuff queued up and I’m ready to cook some (sort of healthy) comfort foods, watch some movies, and knit!

  14. Today is the perfect day to make Meat Sauce for tomorrow’s Lasagna!!
Knitting on my Feather and Fan scarf or neck warmer – still haven’t decided which size I want to make…
And cleaning up my knitting corner so that I can knit comfortably all weekend long…

  15. Actually, the ideal way to enjoy one’s hot chocolate involves adding a hefty shot (or two) of Bailey’s Irish Cream. 😀 Yummy, and warms you from the inside out!

Today’s a perfect day for knitting on some Christmas presents. The kids & I are going to watch some Doctor Who, and I’ll work on my mom’s Taconic Sweater & a market bag. 🙂 I love cozy afternoons like this!

  16. 62 knitting days till Christmas?? (panic!!) must knit a lot more than 2 hours a night! No more knitting for me at lunch – it’s Christmas knitting from now on. Three scarves, two hats, two pairs of socks, one stole – and a partridge in a pear tree!.

This weekend will be the two fiber festivals in S. Arizona and the weather will be sunny and cooler. Is it wrong I’m irrationally looking forward to fondling sheep and alpaca?

Off to the ‘Buck to load up on coffee so I can knit faster. Have a GREAT weekend!!

  17. It’s a perfect day for…

    -hot chocolate
    – getting bills paid and mailed out before the weekend.
-catching up on filing household paperwork
-planning my grocery shopping list for the coming week
    -vacuming
    or, even better…
    -hot chocolate
    -knitting a scarf
-planning (or is that plotting?) my next ambitious project

  18. It really must be a perfect day for making a list of gifts to knit, because that’s just what I was doing this afternoon, and mentally going through my stash (while invigilating a test for my Latin class) to decide what I could make.
Tonight there’s supposed to be heavy rain here, so it sounds like a perfect evening to start on those holiday projects (or marking those tests, but I’ll try not to think about that right now).

  19. My stash is not that large, but I have ran into the problem of needing more places to store it. And, I do not think it needs down -sized, I just need a larger stash storage area. Perfect day, hmm, right now, I would say a day to myself, no kids, no husband, a clean house, a few movies, and knitting projects at my side. Maybe a few extra $’s to spend on stash enhancement via Loopy.

  20. Raining in FL. Great to be indoors knitting. It has cooled down a little, gives me hope of future Loopy Kisses coming this way. I love hot chocolate, the best powder to have at home is the Godiva one. Have a wonderful weekend. I have never been to any of the fairs, they are too far from us. But they are having Stitches in Atlanta next year and that is not that far.

  21. Yum! Meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner, and meatloaf sammiches for lunch tomorrow! Can’t beat that!

I love destashing…isn’t that weird? I just gave a bunch of stuff to my manager’s 13-year-old, who loves crochet. I never sell it, I just give it away.

Have a good weekend, and hug all the animals for us!

  22. Today is the absolute perfect day for weeding out the stash. We’re having a statewide Ravelry meetup tomorrow (Stillwater, OK) and we’re swapping. Even if I don’t find something I want to trade for, I’m happy to have my ‘what the heck would I do with THIS?’ yarn find a new home.

The weather here is sunny and crisp. Not the kind of day where cocoa is NEEDED, but perfect for it nonetheless.

  23. I tried to talk the daughter into getting the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate the other night I could sample it, but she went for the 4 cocoa signature one. It was OK but I bet the Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate is better.

Today was a perfect day for napping, and I did a lot of that. It rained all morning and most of the afternoon, and now the sun is trying to peek through the clouds. Temp is hovering around 50. I love a cool, crisp sunny day, so today is half way to perfect. And even better than that is a sunny day right after a big snow.

  24. Rainy all day here, but got some knitting done while waiting on my car. Salted hot chocolate sounds yummy, now I want some too. Hope to knit this weekend and try to relax. Things have been a bit stressful around here. Should clean a little bit too! The weather is supposed to turn cooler this week so I can’t wait for that! Have a great weekend.

  25. I’m still at work (about an hour to go), and when I get done I’m going to sit in a corner on the couch and knit on my current pair of socks (I have obligations, so I won’t get to knit as long as I want to).

But tomorrow, tomorrow is the perfect day for:

    – singing interesting sections from Pirates of Penzance
    – drinking hot cocoa while knitting/finishing Pundit Babies for Monday’s mail
    – watching cheesy action flicks while knitting a pair of socks
    – reading a fantasy novel, so I can go to the library and get more
    – getting far enough in my holiday knitting that I can justify starting another sweater for me

  26. I could have written your blog! I’m making my step-DD a corset-type vest and discovered that I have yarn that will be perfect for her and the pattern. How cool is that! I also realized that, heaven forbid, I have enough sock yarn to last well over a year. And I thought I would never had a stash, FPS!

    Perfect day for:
    -chlling with the kittens.
-finishin up one pair of socks and starting on another pair which just happen to be for Christmas.
-watching a movie that nobody else wants to see. I like days when I’m home alone.:-)

  27. A perfect day would be a nice dinner in the oven, BOTH sons at home. Sitting by the fire knitting something really AWESOME!

  28. It is a perfect day for a massage and finishing a hat knit out of my handspun (my first low-twist singles). Fortunately, that’s what I have planned for this evening.

This weekend is supposed to be a fabulous blue skies with mild temperatures Colorado weekend. It will be the perfect weekend to ride my bike during the day and do some spinning and knitting in the evening.

  29. I think it’s a perfect day for some of that hot chocolate, marshmallows and meatloaf! Yum!

It’s actually a perfect night to clean, my best friend and her daughter are flying in from CA tomorrow!

I love cooler weather too. I grew up in CA, I don’t miss it!

  30. SAFF was wonderful as usual! This was only my second year, but I’ll be going again. I met Gryphon from The Sanguine Gryphon, and Diane from Creatively Dyed Yarn. If you have a chance, you need to go. What neat ladies! It was rainy and cold, but so worth going. Cocoa would have been wonderful!!

  31. Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate? Sounds delicious—I’d love to try it!

Here it is damp and foggy (although still not cold, darnitall) and it WOULD be a perfect day for rediscovering yarns I’d forgotten in my stash (I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one) and lining up the Christmas knitting projects. But it may not happen, given that the rest of the family is home today and the laundry is threatening to take over the house. I might find time to shop for ingredients for that meatloaf, however!

  32. salted caramel hot chocolate = yummy
hazelnut hot chocolate = not so much

actually, it could just be that the starbucks here in lovely downtown Baltimore is not so good…

  33. Here in TN, it’s a perfect day for finishing chores early, cozying up to a cup of hot apple tea, eating some chili, and of course staying in to knit! 🙂 Fall is finally here and it’s beautiful. The crisp air is quite refreshing.

  34. A perfect day for me would be:- Not having to worry about the economy.
The housework all done[well, for a few hours anyway]
Cold weather -I LOVE the winter
Rain and more rain as we are in drought
Knitting by the heater ,with my dogs.

  35. I’m laughing at the timing of your destash and replace with TLE yarn comments. I’ve been destashing and am accepting payments in the form of TLE gift certificates!!!

  36. Hmm, i so missed those marshmallows the other day at TJ’s! Meatloaf looks good, maybe for dinner tomorrow, although i use oats instead of breadcrumbs.

  37. A perfect day around here is getting my CSM to work and cranking out three pairs of socks in a day. Did that yesterday…today was only two but I managed to get the ribber working. ;o)

  38. I was able to destash by giving one of my accidetal duplicate colorways to a friend for a birthday gift. I also made up a “sock kit” with a skein of yarn, a public sock pattern, dps, and instruction in sock knitting to sell at an auction for our church fundraiser, and it went for $55!

A perfect day for me is reading Sheri’s blog, knitting, and listening to a book while I knit with at least one cat and one dog on my lap!

You know it’s winter in Gunnison when you have to replace your Jeep’s convertilble top with the hard top, which we did yesterday.

  39. Your meatloaf recipe sounds a lot like my mom’s (now mine) – yummy! Hmmm, I might have to alter dinner plans for tonight.

I *wish* we had a Trader Joe’s around here.

My perfect day is one at home with all the chores done so I can knit. Heaven!

  40. Sheri – that hot chocolate is OUTRAGEOUS! Tried that yesterday. Of course while my daughter and I were dipping into the calorie pool – I just added the pumpkin scones from Starbucks to our order. The Team Spirit yarn (Phillies colors) arrived Friday, and they are wonderful too. Yesterday was a perfect day (evening) to watch the Phillies win!!

  41. I’m having one of those Mondays when I can’t remember what a perfect day consists of. Maybe a hot bath tonight will help. But I’m not so far gone I can’t pass along a tip to fellow marshmallow lovers! Check out Laura’s marshmallows here:

    http://www.lcandy.com/

She’s offering cranberry-orange marshmallows right now that are very tasty. My favorite varieties are dark chocolate, raspberry, and Key lime. Her graham crackers are the best, so if you’re looking for the best s’more ever, think Laura’s marshmallows, Laura’s graham crackers, and your favorite chocolate. Mmm!

  42. I was digging through my stash yesterday, thinking about knitting throw pillows for my kids for Christmas, and found a half-finished afghan I haven’t touched in a couple of years. I’ve lost the pattern, don’t even remember what it was, and I’ve repurposed the yarn by now. So I’m going to take it apart and turn it into their pillows.

  43. Made the meatloaf on Wednesday. Loved it! My husband loved it also. I am not a cook, but this was easy enough and was enough for two dinners and one lunch.
    Thanks for the recipe!
