Well you all made it such a fun birthday for me. I wanted to show you pictures of some of the things that came in the mail over this past week! I showed you some of the mini socks in last week’s post, so now I’ll show you some of the other knitted things which arrived. (And some of you send non-knitted things which were equally fun – woohoo!) I am a lucky lucky gal to have such wonderful Loopy friends.
First the “not socks but still knitted” items. My friend Janice sent me this gorgeous charcoal felted bag (and check out the cute Loopy pin on the front that she had made for me!) I have also included the other wonderful felted bag she made for me last fall, because I don’t think that I ever showed that on the blog. I love them both and she is a very talented knitter/felter, isn’t she?
Next is this fun “Sparkle the Peacock” sporting six mini-socks from Dawn! Sparkle comes from Debbie (who also makes the Sock Blocker Keychains that we sell) and I’ve been talking to Debbie about having Sparkle here for awhile. I think it’s finally going to happen soon, so start making your mini socks! (Same pattern as the keychains.) Dawn did overtime by making up all 6 “feathers” on Sparkle and he looks darned cute sitting on my desk here at Loopy Central.
Look at the pretty roving that Katie from Yarn Love sent to me! This is a new colorway that she made up for my birthday called “Sweet Sheri” and I have left it at work to keep from tempting me to spin it up. I think it might be on my schedule for the weekend because I can’t leave it alone any more.
In addition to the roving, she also dyed up the colorway on sock yarn and knit me up a pair of socks! I know that you will love this colorway, so she is dyeing some up for us to have here at The Loopy Ewe. She read my Ravelry profile and saw that some of my favorite colors are cranberry, chocolate, sage and navy. She’s a good sleuth!
The next pair of socks came from Sabrina and were knit up in the Cherry Tree Hill Cherry Blossom colorway. I told her that this was so perfect because sometimes I wear pink and wish I had socks that had pink in them! (Not that I think your socks have to match your outfit. Because they so don’t.) But still, I was lacking “pink” in my sock wardrobe.
Then there was this collaborative effort from Susan and Katie, which means that I get to “wear” two friends at once – ha! (Do you sometimes feel like you’re taking your friends along with you for the day when you wear socks that someone has made you? You don’t? Oh. Me neither, then…..) This is from Fiesta Baby Boom in the Taos colorway, and honest-to-goodness this is one colorway that has been on my “must knit” list since Fiesta started coming in. I love this combo, and I love the socks even more.
The last pair of socks are my first ever socks knit from handspun. My friend Allen (from Numma Numma) handspun the yarn and then knit these socks out of it. Aren’t they beautiful? And I wish you could feel how soft they are. They may be responsible for making me feel like I need to handspin my sock yarn from now on. (Well, ok. You all know that I am not that caliber of a spinner yet, but I have high hopes. Someday.)
I also received a pair of amazing socks from Claudia in Germany (the Wollmeise herself!). I wish I could show them to you because they took my breath away when I opened them. However, it’s done up in the pattern and yarn that she did for our Sock Club shipment, so it’s all a secret at this point! I’ll show them when that club kit has gone out, later in the year. 🙂
So there you have it – the new knitted lovelies that arrived to help me celebrate my birthday. I love them to pieces and I know that I am completely and hopelessly spoiled. I admit it.
What are you knitting this weekend? I’m going to finish up a sock, work on my lace project, and spin. I haven’t started my DC KAL sweater yet, but I have plenty of time to finish before June 1st. I do have the swatch done and the first two skeins wound, so it will get started soon!

What wonderful gifts!
If I am lucky, I will be continuing with a scarf that seems never ending. I did however finish my daughter’s sweater while she was in surgery last week, so I just need to block that.
I’d be afraid of dropping a stitch while getting my haircut, and then the stylist dropping the scissors to my scalp! I will stick with the only pointy objects being in MY hands!
I will be knittng on a bag to be felted, continuing on my skirt and my green socks that are in progress for a blog contest. And if I get bored with all of that I will work on a little lace.
What wonderful gifts!! Wow. There are some talented Loopy Knitters!! Hope you have a wonderful weekend!! 🙂
Such nice presents- and I definitely plan to buy the Sweet Sheri yarn, and Sparkle the Peacock! (So glad you like Katie’s & my joint effort, too!) This weekend, I’ll be finishing the 2nd sock of a pair for my sister (Hedera, done in J Knits Eureka), & continuing to work on my project for my Spring Fling swap partner. I’m not saying what that is, ’cause I’m keepin’ it a secret for now! …I don’t bring my knitting with me when I get my hair done because I don’t want to knit my hair into the project, but even more because I’m afraid the haircolor would drip onto the yarn or project!
Oooo – What fun socks! Have fun wearing them!
This weekend I will be working on my Smooshy Flamingo Pie socks that I cast on yesterday and waiting on pins and needles for my Classy Flamingo Pie to arrive so I can get swatching for my KAL sweater…I am so excited to get started on that!
Have a great weekend!
Oh you are so lucky! To have so many lovely friends to send you so many fabulous birthday socks! So one of the sock club goodies will be from Wollmeise, hunh?? Can’t wait!
This weekend in between ER shifts I am finishing my Loopy Spring Sock Club Socks (cause emotionally I am soooo done with those little cables every 3 rows!). They are coming out just beautiful. And I went stash diving yesterday, and came up with some Cherry Tree Hill “Monet” which seemed perfect for another spring pair, and I’m halfway up the feet already…gonna put a celtic braid along the sides of the leg. Good take-along project.
No, I don’t knit when I’m getting my hair cut, but I DO knit while my little grey roots are soaking up their non-grey color. Everyone at the salon waits to see what socks I’m working on this time!
Oh, and BTW…I just got the pattern for that “Lucy” felted bag too!
Wow! I love ’em all. I do need a haircut too, and I have lace and a clapotis to knit on (and on and…) this weekend. There’s a baby shower to attend too.
What lovely presents! 4 pairs of socks! And a Sparkle, he is too cute. I’ve got to me a peacock.
I’m finishing a pair of socks made with old KP Sock Landscape. The yarn has been siiting in my stash for almost 2 years…it’s time had come. As soon as they are done, I’m going to wait to get the new Sock Club Sock kit. I’m leaving for vacation in weeks and I need something nice to keep me company.
I’m getting my hair cut today:-) I need a new ‘do, and body, and clothes…
What wonderful socks! It was fun spoiling you.
Well, yes, I do knit while I get my hair cut. My hairdresser’s used to it by now. My daughter usually falls asleep during her haircuts!
It’s supposed to be another totally wild weather weekend here (rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow), so I have lots of knitting on the docket – finish the back of Urban Aran, knit up to the fourth color band on Tulip Cardigan (my DIC KAL project, just waiting for the last two colors!), start some pink socks for a friend (due by Easter – eekk), finish a Noro felted bag, knit on my green wool peddler’s shawl….I guess that does it!
Its been a while since I last got my hair cut, I can def see myself knitting while thas happening. I shed alot so hair in my knitting (mine or the cats) is nothing new to me, I just putt it out and keep on knitting 🙂 Hope you had a wonderful birthday!
Have A Nice Weekend!!!
Ah yes, time for a haircut here too. I hope to sneak in at 4 in the afternoon one day next week so I don’t clutter my weekend with that little chore (I like my stylist, but just never really have enjoyed going in for hair “stuff.” Pedicures are another story!)
This weekend I continue with my Selbuvotter mittens (hopefully will finish), and I have two shawls on the needles – the Cap Shawl from Victorian Lace Today and the Kilkenny Shawl from Folk Shawls. Once the mittens are done, I need another small (portable! not pattern intense!) project. Actually, I have Kilkenny memorized, but it’s just BIG.
I’m desperate for Cherry Tree Hill to do some solids in their dk yarn (for Selbuvotter projects) but don’t know which gods to send offerings to on that. I already am picturing black or white yarn with handpaints for the patterns and the picture is so darn clear in my head that it seems like I should be able to make the yarn magically appear too 😉
Dear Sheri,
I’m glad you had a really “Happy Birthday.” I love your peacock and I already
e-mailed Janice and told her how much I liked your loopy bag. I even bought a loopy
pin for someone I know that collects anything to do with sheep. Do you know
why I can’t get your pictures on my computer? Is there other people that have
that trouble? I would love to see all your gifts; they sound wonderful. Hope
all your days are “happy”. I did get the picture of the peacock and your lucy bag
on Janice’s link. I have computer and knitting fairies in my house. They seem
to mess up everything. Since I’m computer illiterate, maybe I’m doing something
wrong. I have a mobius and a pair of socks that I’m working on this weekend. Hope
to get one of them finished.
I love all of the gifts! I still say that you should celebrate your birthday for an entire month (or maybe even two)!
You got some wonderful hand knitted birthday gifts! Enjoy them!
I may not get much knitting done this weekend. My College Guy just got home for his very short Spring Break, and he has to leave to go back Tuesday morning, because he has to work sound for a very big country music concert (not my favorite, glad it’s not me) on Wednesday night. i hadn’t heard of Lorrie Morgan before, but I guess she’s won a number of Grammiy Awards. Add to that, my youngest son has a huge Symphony Orchestra concert tonight & a Symphonic Band concert tomorrow afternoon, plus a few more activities in there, sigh!
I really want to get my DIC – Classy swatches closer to done, and my measurements, so I can finally get started on my Mr Greenjeans. But, in a way, I’m glad that I’ve had a ton of interruptions, because I am starting to learn a lot from those who are much further along in the KAL than I am. I like learning as much as I can from others!
Wow – what fun gifts! You certainly deserve them after all the things you do for us on a regular basis! I’m not sure what knitting I’ll work on this weekend – I am still so far behind on making progress on all my WIPs – I might switch back to the colorwork project and the lace project – because I need to wrap them up. I haven’t started anything new and its driving me crazy because I really, really want to – but I feel I need to finish what I have started first – and maybe frog 2 projects – I just can’t decide it they are completely “dead” projects…I hope you have a wonderful weekend!! Oh, and I don’t knit while getting my hair done – it just wouldn’t work for me. I really must decide what I want to do with my hair – I’ve just been letting it grow and grow… kind of like my yarn collection, lol… : )
I don’t knit while getting my hair cut either and I’m getting mine cut right after work. I have enough dog and cat hair in my projects without adding mine to the mix. What am I knitting this weekend?
Charity knitting projects–prayer shawl for Brenda (argosy wrap using Fantasy Naturale red & purple colorway) and preemie cap in blush
Things for me–Wendy’s generic toe-ups to be finished tomorrow–Jitterbug castagna and my Debbie Bliss Aran Tweed pullover which I hope to finish soon as am itchy to start my DC KAL!!! When I finish my socks, I’m going to cast on gift socks for my exchange partner.
Saturday afternoon I’ll go for my last spinning class. I’m having a tough time getting bobbin tension adjusted so hopefully can get that straight so can practice tonight.
Sunday afternoons I work on Christmas/birthday gifts–project now is an angel kitchen towel.
I’m glad you had a good birthday.
PS I want a Sparkle!!!!
Wow!!! What great gifts. You are spoiled. …isn’t it great!!!
I will be knitting socks, trying to get to #52 by the end of the month ,,, 6 more to go : )
I won’t even take my knitting along in for the wait. I have a thing about all that hair and I don’t want it in my knitting …. so no I don’t think it is weird.
Lovely gifts! Happy birthday!
I’m working on the Wine and Roses mitts from Interweave for my sister. She works in a salon that has the air conditioning on regarless of the outside temperature and she freezes all the time. Hopefully, these will help.
Oh, always working on a sock too.
Wow – I love the peacock. Gotta have one of those. The socks I knit are in great company – what fun (and well-knit) friends they have! You are loved, Sheri!
This weekend I am up to my elbows in construction (new dye studio – yay!) and dye (and boy is that getting complicated…can’t wait ’til the construction part is done). I hope I get to knit a bit on my 9 to 5 socks for the loopy non-sock club knit along – lately I have to knit along or I won’t take time to knit at all – FPS!
I’m so happy that your birthday was special.
What a lovely day you had!!!!
We are suppose to have a rainy, stormy day on Saturday, so I plan to sit on the couch and knit on my Loopy Sweater KAL and get the body done so all I have left is the sleeves. I need to work on the secret project too so that it can get mailed out to it’s recipient.
I’m so glad you enjoyed your birthday!
i’m so glad you got spoiled!!! I can’t think of anyone else that deserves it more!!!
laura
Yay!!! Getting lots of presents is always fun! Glad you are enjoying it!
I can’t wait for sparkle! I saw that online not too long ago and thought it was SOOOO cute!
As to my weekend knitting…I’ve been working on the “scotty vest” using Dream In Color fatty…so that will be my weekend project. May start the rocketry sweater in classy as well. One of these days I’ll start my DIC KAL sweater…..
Those are beautiful gifts; you have so many talented friends.
I agree that I would feel weird knitting while getting my hair cut, but maybe that’s because I don’t really get my hair cut—I’m rather ashamed to admit that my husband cuts my hair and I cut his. Mine is long and straight so all he has to do is trim the ends at the back (I wouldn’t even have time to knit anything and he’d be done). He has so much thick, curly hair that even if I cut out a big chunk no one would be able to tell! Maybe I could find a way to knit while cutting his hair, though…
As for weekend knitting, I expect to do a lot of it because we’re supposed to get another huge snowstorm. I finally finished my Bohus Wild Apple pullover and I’m intending to finish the fair isle Cherished Pullover (the pattern is listed on Ravelry if anyone wants to see it) I’m making for my daughter, and then maybe start my spring sock club socks. They look so bright and lively!
Will be finishing Jaywalkers for husband, and working on my Mr. Greenjeans sweater.
Also will probably cast on MORE socks, since I’ll be getting some great yarns from TLE!
What lovely gifts! I totally want some of the Yarn Love “Sweet Sheri” colorway when it comes in. It’s beautiful! I hope you’ll show us when you finish spinning that roving.
I don’t knit when I get my hair cut–I actually never thought of it! My hair is very long, but I still get a few inches chopped off every four months or so. It would probably definitely get in my knitting!
I’m going to start a new sock this weekend (I just finished my last pair)–yay!
How nice to be thought of by so many for your birthday.
OK, just to clarify what is weird and what is not. Knitting while you wait 35 minutes for color to set isn’t weird …. right? Knitting while getting your haircut, that’s the weird part … right?
We’re in the same place with the DIC KAL. Last night, I decided it was time to wind some skeins of DIC. I wound 2 & knit a swatch. Now, I understand what all of the hoopla is about. It really is beautiful yarn to knit with & I love the feel of the swatch.
This weekend I’m going to finish the last little bit of a pair of socks. Then, I might just start the DIC KAL sweater. Right now I’m leaning toward knitting the Hourglass Sweater, but I might shift back to Mr. Greenjeans.
You got some great gifts, and I really love those bags from Janice.
This weekend I am hoping to make progress on my “Ferns & Toadstools” colorway socks – in between taking care of our new lambs, one of which I just HAD to name Loopy. (My boys said I couldn’t name a male lamb Loopy because it’s “The Loopy Ewe” and ewes are girls. So I told them that Sheri said Loopy is a boy. They think that doesn’t make sense but I told them Sheri said so!!)
On the upside…..having hair that needs cutting proves that 1) you are indeed ALIVE 2)you keep up on your hygiene and 3) you care enough to provide the rest of us with something lovely to look at. Have to get a see thru bib for the hairdresser so you can knit while getting a haircut!!
I am knitting on my KAL shrug and hopefully working on a second sock 🙂
baby is actually sleeping so there WILL be knitting this weekend and lots of it!!!
This weekend I am knitting a feather ‘n fan shawl that I need to finish..That’s about it..glad you had a happy birthday…are you enjoying more snow? My family in Louisville are expecting about 10 in I heard!
Oh, gorgeous roving! That Katie… I’m a sucker for her. What lovely gifts all around!
I don’t knit while my hair is cut either. Waiting for color… yes, but not while I’m in the chair. It’s a little weird with the big cape and all… not to mention the flying hair…
Sparkle looks good on red. Glad he is enjoying his new home.
Lots of nice presents there. I was contemplating the Cherry Blossom yarn yesterday. Looks good knit up in that pattern.
This weekend, I will finish knitting the Carie Lynn bag (see blog if you don’t know what that is) and then figuring out what to do next. I haven’t been able to knit lace while my head is dizzy so maybe cast on the blanket for my daughter or work on completing my afghan or work more on a sock. So much yarn, so little time. I need that in a t-shirt.. You notice I had to buy another Loopy bag this week because I have so many projects going – all my bags are full.
Lovely socks and felted bags! Lovely friends.
Hi Sheri, That is an awesome post! Just shows you what you mean to all of us “loyal fans!!”
Hugs,
Kirsty
Holy moley! You got some NICE gifts. You must feel so loved.
I especially liked the ones from Kat at Yarn Love — it looks like she put all kinds of pattern stitches in them — way cool! Will you be carrying that pattern? I’d buy it for sure if you do. Just sayin’.
I would be afraid to get hair all over my knitting and I need to be able to see my knitting so I can’t stick it under the cape thing. Have you been spinning at all???? I keep looking for spinning updates. I think you got some great gifts for your birthday. I am excited about the Woolmeise colorway.
Wonderful gifts. For some reason your blog photos don’t come up on my computer anymore…do you have a suggestion? Have a great weeeknd,
Your gifts are so beautiful. I would love to have a peacock…so cute. Sheri, did you send your snow to Ohio? We are getting clobbered. By tomorrow night, we’re supposed to get 12-15″. Not sure if we’ll really get that much, but we have about 6″ of it so far. Working on socks this weekend.
Sheri you are so………..Blessed. I love the sock peacock. I’ll bet it looks awesome on your desk with those cute socks. Where can we find the pattern for the socks. I’d love to order a peacock..
I’m also in OHIO and fortunately the snow has not started in my neck of the woods yet, but it will get here soon…
Cathy in NW Ohio
Lovely birthday gifts! I’ll be knitting on a prayer shawl for my best friend. I couldn’t just go with the easy rectangle from Homespun for her, I had to go with the Forest Canopy shawl in Socks That Rock mediumweight in Jewel of the Nile. I won that yarn some time back, and had no idea what to do with it.
My friend’s mother has Alzheimers, and things are progressing rapidly now. I’m hoping I get it done in time to provide some comfort.
Wow, Sheri, what a wonderful birthday you had, I loved the socks!
I plan to knit a bit on my Marie Antoinette socks with the DIC Strange Harvest(from the Loopy, of course!) It sure is fun to have a pattern in sections, the honeybee edging and the cuff are done and I am about to start the sock leg. This is the kind of project I pick up and do a few rows and then I have to put it down and do a more simple project.
I have decided that March is the month for finishing up some long put off second socks. I have started the 2nd RPM sock, an Opal Feelings sock and I need to do the 2nd waving lace sock. I did it with DIC Wisterious and it sure is beautiful!
You enjoy your weekend, and you should have some cozy feet:)
Very cool b-day swag. 😀 😀 😀
Why, yes, I DO knit while at the salon. But only while she’s mixing color and then again while the color does what it does. For 35 frickin’ minutes, most times. My hairdresser is my SIL, so everyone in the place gets to see which socks I’m working on. LOL. The salon owner hits me up for a pair every time I’m in there. 🙂
I get to start new socks this weekend in between working and doing homework. I finished a second sock today waiting in the ER with my mom (she’s fine) and had yarn but not the right needles to get started. (The cuff is on 2s the foot is on 1.5s). And so it goes.
You are a spoiled and lucky girl you are!!!
I am knitting nothing this weekend, well I might knock off a couple of rows before knit group on Sunday but it remains quite doubtful.
ack………….
Nice birthday gifts, Sheri!
I’m presently knitting a baby afghan, and would like to finish it before the baby starts preschool. Ha! Things were coming along really good and then bam! I am off one stitch in my present row, and not able to find my mistake, so am thinking it will cost me about three rows of tearing out. ughhh… 😛 So much for things coming right along!
I’ll admit that it’s weird, but I do it. I do just plain stockinette only and I, obviously, keep it under the protective cape thingy. And I find it easier to feel what I’m doing and thus not make mistakes if I use dk or heavier yarn for that project.
It looks like you got lots of lovely birthday presents.
I am working on my DIC-KAL sweater. I finished the second front yesterday and I am casting on the back now. I am plesantly surprised that it goes so fast, and I am really enjoying this yarn! I also should work on some socks, and I am itching to do some spinning.
What cool birthday presents! So glad you had a fun birthday!
This weekend the Kid Slique and I will be trying to agree on a project. I started out with the easy-peasy scarf you showed us a few blog posts ago, but would it cooperate? Not on your life. I had to frog it about three times. It wants to be something else. I’ll let you know!
Knitting while having my hair cut? Dangerous.
No, I don’t knit while getting my hair cut (even if I tucked it under the protective cape, I would still be worried about hair), and I find that getting my hair cut, colored, or whatever, is just a nice relaxing time for me to just SIT there (which I hardly ever do without a book or knitting in hand).
What wonderful socks! I was checking out that Blossom Colorway yesterday, wondering how it would knit up! I just love it! And of course, the FIESTA’s are magnificent! 🙂 I love that Fiesta! 🙂 Happy weekend!
I also knit when getting my hair done. It kills the time. I am planning on starting some socks with the lovely yarn that Stacy sent me. This is my perk for being her swap partner for the fling. And it is true the colors that she does are amazing! I thought it was pretty last night when I got home from work, this morning with sleep I really did not appreciate the colors for how intense they are. So all of the Tempted yarns should be flying right out of there!
