Those Pesky Elves

DSC01434.JPGWe have a lot of fun working here – we really do. (And can you even call it “work” when it involves so much yarn??) So I *think* that this sign was left on Loopy in jest, yesterday. There are some Sneak Ups that stretch everyone, and these awesome Elves busted their tails this week to get all of your orders out to you in a timely fashion. It cracked me up to walk by Loopy one day to see this “Free the Elves!” apron tied around his neck. πŸ™‚

Once again I’m a happy mom, as I have both kids under one roof again. I just sleep better at night, knowing their bedrooms are full – know what I mean? (Well – those of you who have had kids go off to college or out on their own know exactly what I mean!) College Guy came home last night. I know he will need a few days to catch up on post-finals sleep, but then I have a list for him. (Shhh – don’t tell him. He thinks he’s home on break.) I just re-read that and realized that many of you will email or leave blog comments telling me to “let him have a nice relaxing break” and trust me, I will. I’m just kidding about the list. (sort of).

The Baby Monkey Socks have almost returned! We had a bit of a glitch (called “transferring everything from an old computer to a new computer and losing some of the important things in the process.” AKA “transferring things from old to new and some idiot the computer owner not being able to find everything she needs on the new computer.” AKA “Web Guy is not here to find it when I need it.” FPS.) I have the pattern back and we’re working on formatting it to get up on the Free Patterns link asap. I’m so sorry for the wait. We also have a wonderful new fingerless mitts pattern for children that Monica (of “Monica Knits” pattern fame) has given to us out of the kindness of her heart. So we’ll be getting that up as well.

Update on other things that you have been asking about:
When will you have more Fiesta Boomerang and Baby Boom? They been backordered since the end of September, but we do anticipate getting our order in late this month and will be fully re-stocked.
When will you have more Sock Blockers? They are never out of stock for TOO long because WH makes them and can get them turned around pretty quickly for us. So if you’re waiting for a particular size/style and want to know when we’ll have them again, it’s always “soon”.
How does the Noro feel? Softer than regular Noro, not as soft as most of our sock yarns. How does it feel after washing? I’ve heard it softens up a lot and when you put the socks on your feet, they feel great.
When is the roving coming in? We have that amazing alpaca roving from Alpaca With a Twist now. We also have our first Sakina Needles shipment on the way, and more coming from Tempted and … a couple of others. It is so fun to have roving in the shop!
Do you have the new Dream in Color colorways and lace yarn yet? No. Our order of Classy came in yesterday, but we’re still waiting on the rest. We will get it up asap when it arrives, but it might not be next week after all. We’ll keep you posted.
Are you going to be shipping the week after Christmas, or are you taking that week off? We’ll be here and we’ll be shipping. We also have another great sale opportunity for you from Cherry Tree Hill in their DK Sock Yarn (again, with special limited edition colors, only available here. Cheryl at CTH said, “Tell them we’re setting those dyes aside just for The Loopy Ewe and your customers!”) I have another idea that I’m cooking up, too. We’ll see if we can get both of those things ready for you the week after Christmas. If not, then the first week in January.
– Did my husband/mom/dad/grandparents/aunt/uncle/kids/best friend buy me things from my Wish List? Or a Gift Certificate to The Loopy Ewe? We’ll never tell. (You didn’t really think we would, did you?) But the answer to most of you is probably yes, as there has been a lot of holiday shopping going on. πŸ™‚

I think that’s it for questions I keep hearing lately. Did I miss any?

My plans for the weekend? Working on some Noro socks so that I can show you a sample on Monday’s blog. (Plus watching movies and hanging out with my family. I love nights like that. And we’re due to get bad weather, so that makes staying in even more fun.) Your plans for the weekend?

Sheri drinkinghotchocolateasItype.See?NoteverydayisaPeppermintMochaday….

  1. That photo of Loopy made me chuckle… : ) I’m hoping to wrap up my holiday knitting this weekend. Other than that, just want a quiet relaxing weekend – perhaps staying in myself as there is also potential for bad weather here in the DC area, but I don’ t think as bad as the Midwest.

And, I have decided today is a Peppermint Hot Chocolate day for me – my afternoon treat. : )

  2. It must be a wonderful feeling to have your children home with you. I must admit that I’m still in the wishing they’d just all leave the house for an hour or two phase (5 boys between the ages of 5 & 15 can do that to a gal).

I had asked you about the Hill Country yanrs in college colorways before. Just so you know if it comes up again, “Gig ‘Em Aggies” (a gorgeous colorway I just received from you is Texas A & M) and “Hook “Em Horns” is Texas Longhorns. There used to be others but I’m not sure of their names at the moment. Anyway, my nephew is is a Longhorn football player so if you get a chance to get “Hook ‘Em Horns” I’d be all over that! πŸ˜‰

Sadly my knowledge of all things college football has been subliminally obtained through years of of living in a house of sports fanatics.

    Enjoy your weekend!!

  3. I’m putting up the tree with my kids tonight. Buddy Bill’s college kid arrives home today, just ahead of the winter storm coming our way tomorrow. What a relief! Sunday we’ll all play in the snow. πŸ™‚

  4. Love the “Free the Elves” πŸ˜‰ I’m really looking forward to seeing how the Noro knits up. I just want to buy everything in the Noro photo from Wednesday – those colors look SO YUMMY.

You know, when my family asked for my Christmas list (yes, we do that – saves on the guessing and we actually keep each other updated so we don’t duplicate things) the ONLY thing I sent at first was my Loopy Wishlist. One sister whined so I reluctantly sent a non-yarn list, but I told her (and the rest of my sisters) that I really, really, DID want yarn. Really.

    A lot.

  5. Weekend plans…. hope to get our phone, electric and water back. Kids in from college so…movies, knitting, wrapping gifts, knitting, spinning, movies, cooking and on and on and on.
I took your advise and while at Starbucks today I did buy for the car behind mine…thought it was one lady but appearently it was about half an office. (home health) they deserved it, with all the ice round here. Felt good. Happy Holidays all!
    xoxo Stacy

  6. How nice to have everyone under one roof again! Our weekend plans include going to a piano recital for our daughters, sleeping in, and making pizzas πŸ™‚ Enjoy yours!

  7. I would have liked some elves to come dig my car out this morning!

I guess I am still at the stage of enjoying when my kids (7 & 11) are OUT of the house, but I do miss them when they are gone. Most of the time. πŸ™‚

    Happy weekend!

  8. How about a preview of that yarntini cashmere? It sounds simply yummy!

I have a skein of the Noro sock yarn in the ever-favorite color 095. It’s definitely not the softest sock yarn going but the colors are pretty. It’s also quite thin – maybe even thinner than trekking? I’m thinking size 0 needles? If so, it will be a while before that pair gets made. I think it’s thinner than Wollmeise, and probably not as nice to knit with. But we will see!

We just recover from one storm and then get ready for another here. There’s a biggie coming Sunday so school will likely be cancelled. I work only 3 miles from my house, so the only thing that keeps me out of work is if my driveway isn’t plowed early.

Lots of Christmas sock and glove knitting ahead this weekend!

  9. I got my Loopy order today and I love yarn and the surprise. It’s very cool and the kids are enjoying the pictures. Plans for this weekend for me are trying to stay healthy. We have a house of sick kiddies right now. By the end of the weekend, I may want them all out of the house. πŸ˜‰ Enjoy your family time!!!

  10. “Free the Elves!!!” You gotta love it!
I will be watching movies and knitting socks all weekend as the snow is headed this way.

  11. Sheri, drop a Candy Cane Hershey’s KIss in your hot chocolate. Yummo!!!!! Enjoy the time with the family this weekend. Will there be spinning progress this weekend????

  12. Hope the weather isn’t too bad for you this weekend, just bad enough to stay in.

I will be trying to catch up on my last minute holiday knitting. They say we will be getting snow tomorrow night. Just when I have a great holiday party to attend. But I am going no matter what.

So that is my weekend. Everyone stay warm and safe wherever you are.

  13. So anxious for the Dream in Color lace weight yarn.
Can you tell us what colors you expect?
Humming carols and watching for your DC updates. . .
I’m dreaming of a Dream in Color Christmas

Try to have a relaxing weekend and don’t be surprised if the kids wanna be spending more time with their friends than family. It happens.

  14. This weekend:

    Go hear Brave Combo tonight.
    Finish More Stripes Vest.
Finish Circus Panda Cotton socks if possible.
    Run son around outside.
Pick up library books and read.
Hope that my latest Loopy order finally arrives (and wish that USPS provided as much detail on package progress as UPS does).
    Finish and mail Christmas cards.

  15. “Free the Elves” , I love it~~

This is my annual Christmas Baking weekend so I will be amidst swirls of flour and the smell of vanilla, sugar and butter whipped into frothy yellow. And we might be getting some big snows so I’m happy to stay in with baking and knitting.

Knitting-wise, I need to fix the two stocking caps, finish a moebius in Malabrigo (yummy, yummy yarn), and knit one more fingerless mitt. All before next Saturday…yikkeee.

  16. Hee… “Free the elves. ” Hee….

My weekend is too packed. Taking Mama (a.k.a. my 79-year-old-3-year-old) to do her Christmas shopping tonight, which should be fun; breakfast with a friend, choir rehearsal, and hair cut tomorrow; and the Christmas Choir Concert on Sunday. If I’m lucky, I’ll get some time to work on the knitting between events and regular weekend stuff like laundry and house cleaning. I have a hat that MUST be finished so it can be shipped to Atlanta. The end is in sight, it’s just a question of having the time to do it. Maybe I can convince the cat to wrap the presents for me? πŸ˜‰

Yea, definitely need more knitting and cocoa time. πŸ™‚

  17. If you free the elves we’ll be yarn-less, and that would be a tragedy. πŸ™‚ Goodness knows we don’t have enough yarn. LOL! Hang in there and make sure to take time out for YOU!

  18. Apparently we’re getting 6-10 inches of snow tomorrow, so my weekend plans are to stay at home, drink hot chocolate, and knit my little fingers off. I decided to give a lot of knitted presents, forgetting that knitting takes more time for me than crocheting, so I’m under the gun.

My husband was sweet enough to do a run to the store so we have what we were short on. Since he’s off school (he’s a grad student at Purdue) and I work from home it won’t be a disaster if we can’t get out on Monday πŸ™‚

Of course, that’s assuming we keep power and cable…..

  19. We got a foot of snow yesterday afternoon, so I’ll be staying in this weekend, knitting and watching my tivo.
I’m glad your kids are home. Have a great weekend, all of you!

  20. I’m right there with you Sheri about the college kids being home. Got one college daughter home last week and the other one home just about an hour ago. I’m a happy camper indeed! Let the fun begin. Wishing we were all sitting around drinking hot chocolate, but it just doesn’t taste right when you’re wearing shorts and tank tops. Seems it will never cool off here?? We’re SO jealous of you who are getting a bit of the white stuff. Enjoy it for us and have a great weekend.

  21. That apron is a hoot! Weekend plans…trying to mail packages, do cards, knit, and get ready for the snow that is supposed to hit. Unfortunately, tomorrow will begin with attending a funeral for the husband of a friend. Very sad. Nice man. She needs moral support so we will be there for her and her kids and grandkids.

  22. I love the apron. I guess we all need to be freed from something. The new things
look wonderful, but I may not partake for a while. Still working on this Christmas.
Can’t drink hot chocolate, but drink a lot of hot tea. I may have told you this
story, but here goes. When my youngest son Rick went to college, I was working
for a doctor and I did everything in his office from typing his letters, accounting,
scheduling his surgeries, and seeing his patients. The day after Rick left, I went
in early to start typing his letters; I was so upset about Rick ( that was my baby),
the last one to leave home, I erased all his letters off of the machine. That was the
old days when the letters were on a machine, not a computer. I went out on the
stairwell and cried because Rick left and cried some more because I erased all the
letters. My boss came out and said “for goodness sakes Barbara, he’s only going
to college. He’s not going off to war.” What do dad’s know. Besides his girls were
still babies then. I still knit my old boss
something every Christmas. This year he got a pair of socks out of Whiskey that
I saw in the “Interweave” magazine. I hope he takes good care of them. My scarf
    is in the mail. Hurrah!!!!

  23. My poor beagle had a seizure Monday night-(she’s never had one before) so instead of going to Canada for hubbys work Christmas party—- I’m staying behind to take care of one very spoiled (and now fine- apparently) beagle… (At least I don”t have to find a gown I can wear with handknit socks for a Christmas party….. that’s kind of rough πŸ˜‰

The Noro looks like it would make YUMTASTIC chevron scarves..and fingerless mitts……. and oh—- stranded tams/ hats and gloves! …..(I’m a little skeptical about it being well wearing for my tootsies;)

other than pup sitting- I’ll be knitting while I’m waiting in line to take my youngest to see Santa… (that should be equal to a pair of socks- the week before Christmas I’m thinking!)

  24. OH GREAT! I just ordered a skein of CTH in DK from ya’ll and now I hear it will be on sale! Well shooooooooooooot Guess I’m gonna have to order it again πŸ™‚

My mom grew quite accustomed to me coming home for winter break, hugging her then sleeping for the next four days. hahahaha

  25. I’ll Be filling out an order form so I can get some Yarn in to ship out for my customers, blogging, knitting and most likely watchin the snow fall. Where we are (about 5 hrs sw of you sheri) we are suposed to get anywhere from 5-7 inches on top of sleet and freezing rain, YUCK!!! Oh well that neans I’ll have lots of uninterrupted knitting time πŸ™‚

  26. Two sick kids to take care of. (Okay, one and the husband.) All plans of accomplishing much this weekend have gone straight down the… er… have been scuttled.

    Pass the echinacea.

  27. Well give the elves a day or two off but don’t free them, we love their speedy service and appreciate them.
I have 2 more years before I experience one of my kids away at college.I don’t even sleep well when they are at a friends house overnight, I can only imagine how sleep deprived I will be when they go off to school.

We are expecting that same bad weather. College guy got home just in time they are expecting about a foot of snow up where he goes to school. We are going to have ice then snow, so says the weather man. He has been wrong the last two weeks about our snow, so I will believe it when I see it.

    Have a great weekend

  28. I’m so glad we have power again. πŸ™‚ We spent 4 days without electricity and it’s been so cold…brr…we are expecting some snow this weekend. I hope it doesn’t come, as there are still so many people around here without power.

  29. I just finished knitting one of those “Neck Hugs” using the very pricey Lorna Laces yarn (that has silk in it) for a Christmas gift. I’m almost tempted to include the ball band that has the $32 price on it!! Non-knitters have no idea how expensive yarn can be and never mind the hours it takes to knit something nice!! Almost makes me want to give hand knitted Christmas gifts only to other knitters who will appreciate them.

  30. I can appreciate how good it must feel having your kids back under your roof; mine aren’t old enough yet to go away to school but already I feel a little sad when the’ve got after school activities and get home late.

“Free the Elves” is ok; start worrying when you see “Free Loopy”!

  31. Free the Elves…..not on your life! How would we all get out yarn….unless Loopy suddenly develops opposable thumbs and can help with the packing…then I’m all for it!

Noro sock yarn….got some today and was disappointed in the the thinness and lack of softness of the yarn. Alos the fact that it says, and I quote “hand wash only in cold water” was quite a turn off to me.
The colors and combinations however….are to DIE for!!!! Gorgeous! I fear I will be knitting them on zeros though, arghhh! …loose knitter that I am.

  32. That’s no fair, everybody’s getting to relax!! I graduate Saturday night…all that hard work at is finally done and now I’ll have more time for knitting. But I still need to finish some last projects for my independent study course. Sunday we’re going to Busch Gardens. The weather has been pretty muggy down here and I still have the air on. πŸ™ I would like some nicer weather!

  33. I agree, there is no better feeling than having all the
kids back home and under the same roof. For me,
that will happen Tuesday. Can’t wait!! Then the
holidays will really start. Weekend plans of
    running around (before the NorEaster).baking,
and finally finishing that baby sweater(one seam left)!
And my elves ( the boys) will be VERY busy!

  34. Lots to do this weekend…decorate the tree (which hubby set up LAST weekend!), work on hubby’s second sock, finish my mitts, try to get some baking done, work on this huge stack of work on my desk…I need a 4-day weekend! No ice and snow down here in SE Texas…cold rain this morning and lots of cold wind the rest of the day. Sounds like a great day to stay home and get some things accomplished! Glad College Guy made it home before the weather blows in!

  35. I know just what you mean about having the kids all safely in their own beds. Even though mine are too young for college, when they go away to camp or a sleepover I can never sleep. It’s such a relief when they’re home again. Enjoy having your family all together once again!
Today, I’m preparing for having my in-laws over for dinner. I just made your stew from last Friday’s blog entry, so we’re counting on that to be extra tasty : ). I’ll also be writing out Chistmas cards. We have a tradition that my eldest daughter hand paints the card. She just finished it, so now I can get started. Other than that I’m just waiting for the right moment to suggest to my husband what a great idea it would be for me to go to the Spring Fling and for him to have a special spring father-daughter weekend with the four girls!

  36. Did you see the story on NBC about the RAK at a Starbucks in FL? One man started it and it kept going down the line! The man said he started not as a RAK but because the man behind him was yelling and honking his horn, and he wanted to turn negative into positive.

  37. Yay! Waiting for the Noro. I’m so excited!

I discovered a recipe for Barcelona hot chocolate, which combines hot chocolate and espresso. Made it this morning and it was amazing! Yum! so now you can have hot chocolate and coffee, together at last!

  38. My own College Guy is on his way home at this moment. I am so excited to have him here again for a few weeks. I do understand what you mean! I’m sending daughter and boyfriend out to bring back pizza and movies and plan to just hole up with all my sweeties.

  39. I was straightening up my basket o’ yarn, and decided to take the whole balls leftover from past projects to my knitting group. One of the ladies remarked, after they nearly emptied my box of yarn that I should put it up here as a RAK. I’m not sure which is better – giving them the yarn, or them giving me back much needed space in my living room.

I can’t wait for the Noro – it looks like fun!

  40. I just wanted to say that I received my package today……………super fast as always and I loved the calendar. The sheep and bunny were just precious and I enjoyed reading their “personal bios” also. Thank you for the special extra!!!

  41. Well, it was minus 9 degrees here at noon today, but no clouds, just beautiful blue sky and LOTS of snow from last weekend.

I, too, saw the RAK at Starbuck’s in FL on the news, and I started yelling at my husband, Loopies have been doing RAKs all Month!! Then I had to explain to him about the contest, and blog, etc.

Can’t wait to sign up tomorrow for April sleepover!!!

Staying inside knitting socks from TLE Interlacements Tiny Toes. Netflix pick tonight is “Syrianna” w/ George Clooney. Oyster stew for supper and chardonnay, with husband’s prize winning pecan pie! Life could hardly be any better!

  42. Well now my College daughter is officially college graduate daughter, we spent the weekend watching her graduate. I also had some car knitting time and finished the hat for her boyfriend and I have almost finished the socks for my mother-in-law. Now I have to worry about her finding a job, but she will be home for Christmas in a couple of days, then she is off to NYC for new years for her graduation present. The hats and scarves will come in handy then! Enjoy them while they come home, her visits have become shorter and more infrequent over the past year but you want them to grow up.

  43. Tonight I too, have both kids (and a son-in-love) under our roof. It was a harrowing experience getting them here, including canceled flights, blizzards and a 600 mile round trip drive culminating with a return here around 5am today. Everyone’s home. It’s such a wonderful feeling.

Hope that it’s been a relaxing weekend for you.
