We called in the troops!

Ok – THAT was a fun Sneak Up! (Seriously – y’all broke all previous records!) In addition to the regular Loopy Elves (Susan, Vicki and Anna), we had to call in both of my folks, WH and KD for order packing on this one. (College Guy lent his support by calling last night to tell us he was glad to be in Indiana, watching from afar. Nice guy.) We’re still working on orders – we’ll try to get them all out by tomorrow, but some may spill over into Tuesday. We really ARE working ’round the clock to get everything out to you. Monday is a holiday here in the U.S., so no mail on Monday. When this week’s orders are done, I’m taking a couple of days off to knit. It’s so nice to have a holiday in there to justify that.

Just to keep you updated – Wendy’s patterns have come and gone, but more will arrive by mid-week next week. We did sell out of most of the Dream in Color shades, but I called Veronica and she’s sending us all that she had to spare on her shelves, today. So we’ll have a bit more to hold us over until the next big regularly-scheduled order arrives the third week in September. Someone asked about the size of our orders. We always order very very big huge orders. Huge pretty much describes it. 🙂 But you all also have very very big huge appetites for DC. Huge pretty much describes that, too! We aim to keep you filled up as often as Dream in Color can send us yarn. Fortunately, they’re very good to us and delightful to work with. They’ll keep it coming to us, and we’ll keep it coming to you. Apparently you have huge appetites for ShibuiKnits, too. Either that, or you were just having too much fun adding things to your cart. Or maybe both.  They sent another order to us yesterday already. So by mid-week next week, we’ll have all of this back in stock for you again, and of course we plan to keep up with it as fast as these companies can keep us stocked after that. Thank you so much for making this Sneak Up so much fun, and for all your business. We so appreciate you!

The next Sneak Up will be fun, too. We have Fiesta Baby Boomerang, Zen String Bambewe, Chewy Spaghetti and Cider Moon Glacier all ready to pop up for you. In addition, I know that Yarn Pirate, Perchance to Knit, Yarn Love, Wollmeise, Misty Mountain Farms, and Nature’s Palette have either shipped or will ship within the next few days. And of course we have other fun new stuff coming any day, too – so it looks like September is shaping up to be a yarn-filled month for all of us. Yay! (When is the next Sneak Up? Um – as soon as the post office delivers more boxes to us. I think they really wonder about us….. I’ll keep you posted on the next one, of course.)

school-lily8-08011Look at this cute kitten. This is “Loopy Elf Junior” with her new kitten, Lily. LEJ is Susan-the-awesome-assistant’s daughter, and she was the Loopy Elf Junior this summer. She was a great order picker and we loved it when she came in to work with Susan. She got to know our Zoe and decided she really wanted a cat. Susan talked her hubby into allowing a cat into the family. (It was no easy task, believe me.) So Knitting Daughter and I met Susan and LEJ at the humane society a couple of Saturdays ago, and she picked out Lily for them to take home and love. They are having a wonderful time with her and Lily is a lucky little kitten to have found a home with them. Isn’t she a cutie? (Do you know how hard it is to be at the Humane Society and not bring another cat or dog home?)

I know I need to share more HEALTHY recipes with you, but here’s another delicious non-healthy one for today. Once you’ve tried these, you will be hooked.

DSC01035.JPGAunt Ardith’s Special K Bars (I have no idea who Aunt Ardith is, but she came up with some great bars.)

6 cups Special K cereal
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup butterscotch chips

Cook sugar and syrup to boil. Take off heat and stir in peanut butter and vanilla. Mix well. Pour over cereal and stir to coat. Pour into buttered 9 x 13 pan. Melt chips and spread over the top.

And in case you’re needing more knitting time in your life this holiday weekend, here is the blog post I wrote last year to help you find time over Labor Day Weekend for knitting. I think the ideas will still work for you. I’m planning on adding a few into my weekend as well.

  1. Wow, Sheri! You guys are the best! I’m sure glad I got my order in quickly (of course, I was checking your website every 30 minutes all day long)! And, I still look at it all day long, dying to order more – one could say that I’m becoming obsessed!:) Keep up the good work!

Hope you have a very relaxing weekend!

  2. Good for Susan and her family! LIly is a very fortunate kitty–I had a Miss Lily Vanilli who looked much like her.

You all are so brave. I can’t even walk into an animal shelter. Just can’t bear to look into those sweet, confused doggy and kitty faces. “What did I do wrong?” they all seem to be asking. Nope. Canna do it.

Oh, and thanks, Aunt Ardith. Honey, IMO, that’s about what it takes to make Special K worth eating!

  3. I’m with Liz in IN…I don’t go into shelters anymore. We’ve got three shelter-kitten-cats here and every day I have to remind myself I really do want my dh to live here more than I want more kitties!!! At least with dh there’s no hairballs… Lily is a beautiful, beautiful little girl; I’m so pleased to see a rescued baby!

I have a wonderful plan for knitting this weekend: Christian music fest! Nothing to do but sit for six hours today, listen to great music, and work on socks! Tomorrow, the kids go by themselves and I’m at home….dh is working..house is already clean…kids are eating at concert so no cooking…gee, whatever will I do with my time?!?!?

  4. Oh dear, I guess this means I better go see if any of my new cart is left…my first order hasn’t even arrived yet!

My kitties are old in years but young in heart–one an adoptee from the SPCA in 1992 (he’s 17), the other from an herb farm I frequented 13 years ago.

    Enjoy the weekend!

  5. I have a terribly hard time with the whole animal shelter thing too. I go drop off old towels of sheets or stuff periodically and the only thing that saves me is that the animals are kept behind a door so you actually have to go out there to see their poor sad/eager/hopeful little faces. Good for Susan indeed. Lucky kitty looks pretty happy.

I hope you have a relaxing weekend and thanks for all those knitting time tips. Unfortunately my family doesn’t trust me an inch. I’d get busted if I tried any of those. Well, maybe not the donut one. I might try that tomorrow morning and see how it goes. Most likely my daughter will insist on coming along though. And she’d tattle. So even that one might not work.

I was reading along and got to the end of my screen and thought, “How can a recipe containing Special K be that unhealthy?” Then I hit the scroll arrow and thought, “Oh, that’s how.” My teeth hurt just thinking about adding sugar to corn syrup.

  6. I, too, check your site several times a day when I’m not at work. I love looking at all the new stuff! I get a severe case of the “I wants”, but sanity (most of the time) takes over and I just look. hehehe. I’m waiting for the Wollmeise. Once I get that, then I’m done buying for a while (ha! I wanna see how long that will last) and plan on knitting my brains out. I’m almost done with Christmas stuff, and then its MY stuff time. 😉 Hope you have a great holiday weekend!

  7. I was very tempted by the sneak-up, but didn’t purchase anything. For some reason I thought Wollmeise was going to be in this sneak-up. I’m holding out until then. (that’s what I say today anyway).

So glad that Loopy Elf Jr. and her family adopted Lily. She’s a beauty. I bet her Dad is going to be in love with Lilly before they know it. IMO if you’re not a cat lover, you just have to be around them to become smitten with their personalities and love. When my 2 dogs are endlessly barking (like now), I tell them next time around I’m just having cats. Of course that’s not true, I love my 3 felines, but the 2 dogs are so special in their own ways.

  8. Have a great weekend Sheri!

Fun tips, by the way. I have a feeling that I can’t get away with any of that this weekend though. It’s our 5th wedding anniversary!

  9. yay kitty! i want to get a dog.

knitting time this weekend? i better find it! working on some last -minute birthday gifts for some friends and will have hours in the day time to hang out and watch Friday Night Lights: Season One and Heroes: Season One that should be on my doorstep when I get home from work, tonight. woooohooooo!

so glad to know there will be more shibui knits. i really fell in love with one of those colors, and couldn’t buy it fast enough to get it while in stock!

  10. I hope you have a great knitting weekend. I probably won’t get much done with the inlaws here. I looked at last years post and there were 4 comments. When I posted this there were already eight and you just put it up. I just want to let you know that I appreciate all the hard work you do for us. The Loopy Ewe is my favorite sock yarn store. I am not just saying that.

  11. I can say that I’ve had bars like that, or something similar and they are heaven!! Someone in my family makes them every Christmas and let’s just say they go fast…

I’m definitely going to go check out your post from last year to see how to carve more knitting time in to my long holiday weekend (actually, I don’t really plan to do much else other than knit – with the exception of taking care of that pesky laundry that has been piling up). You SOOOO deserve enjoying a long weekend after this busy last few days taking care of sneak up orders (and a big thanks to all your usual helpers and the recruits you called in for extra help).

I think tonight is the night I’m going to master kitchener (I have a practice piece set up before going live with the sock). I have proudly held out on getting my PSL… I want to get it tomorrow morning after I make a quick run to the local farmer’s market to pick up some peaches. A friend just gave me a super simple recipe called “Grilled Peaches with Sweetened Sour Cream” that she says is to die for – I’ll report my results to you. : )

  12. You guys are amazing! My order is on its way and I am so super excited! I hope you all have a nice relaxing weekend! 🙂

P.S. If there is Special K involved it’s automatically healthy. LOL! 😉

  13. Last year’s Labor Day post was great! My family isn’t in the New England area (except for my friends-family); it’s just Jenny (my kitty) and me here, so we can knit as much as we want! Smart as Jenny is, she hasn’t yet expressed an interest in learning how to knit. However, she assists by sitting on my lap and ON my knitting. By the way, she came from the SPCA as well. All my kitties have always been adopted from shelters.

Welcome, Lily! She’s adorable, and I’m so glad she found a good home.

I’m always happy to see Labor Day arrive, because fall and winter are my favorite seasons. I hope everyone has a wonderful, knitting-filled holiday weekend!

  14. We cannot go to a shelter unless we are planning to bring a new pet home. It is impossible for us. Since we just invited a drop off kitten (found by the chicken coop) to join our menagerie we will not be going to any shelters in the near or not so near future. Enjoy your weekend!

  15. Love the Sneak-up It went by so fast- I decided I wanted Wasabi-then made the mistake of looking at the other colors, then when I went back to get it—it was gone!!! A Learning Experience.
The kitty is a sweetie. The cookies sound wonderful and also the ideas on how to find knitting time. Enjoy the days off. ra

  16. Hey, that cute little kitten looks just like my big kittie, Gambit, except mine is a boy. I have “puppy fever” so I don’t dare go to the local shelter or SPCA. Our house is full of pets right now.

Can’t wait for the next Sneak Up — I want some Baby Boomerang, among other stuff.
I’m off to the Outer Banks this weekend so I have a full week to cram in lots of knitting time. :o)

  17. Oh Sheri, how exciting that this was the best sneak up ever. A great big thanks to all who help. We so appreciate it. It is still hot and miseralble here. Lily is a beauty. She is indeed very lucky. Four out of five of my cats were shelter animals. The two dogs were from people who didn’t want them anymore. How sad. I would not trust myself to go into a shelter. Will indeed knit this weekend. Hope you have a great holiday weekend and get to knit and relax. You so deserve it. Hugs

  18. For those who cannot bear going to the shelter (as I can’t), you can adopt pets that were taken from shelters through animal rescue groups. The animals are fostered in private homes where you can visit them to see if you want to adopt them.

LEJ and Lily are both darling! A perfect match!

The sneak up was grand! Excellent job once again by the Loopy team! Thank you so much!

  19. Ok — I’m new at this game—exactly how do these Sneak-ups work?? I’m serious! Where do you even check to see if they’re happening??? Help!!

  20. What a cute kitty! 🙂 I’ve always been a sucker for kitties – we have 2 that came into our lives when a coworker brought kittens into my office.

Loved the sneak up, although I’m sure I’m guilty of bogging down your server while I refreshed… and then bought more yarn than I planned. 😉

  21. I think it’s a great credit to you with how far you’ve come since last year – from 4 comments to 20 already (and you just posted). I love shopping with you all, and it was incredibly hard to resist this sneak-up, but I did it! I am longing for knitting time this weekend! I have so many things I want to do. I envy the person who has her Christmas knitting done – amazing! I’ll have to start in January next year to accomplish that! 🙂
Enjoy your long weekend! Will we see pics of your new knitting accomplishments next week? Hope so! 🙂

  22. When I saw all the cool yarn, I told my husband I had to order right and then because most of it would be gone in 24 hours. I can’t wait to order some of your Fiesta Little Boomer! Hope they have some cool colors. Have a great weekend!
    Gina

  23. Sweet kitten! My first rescue kitten looked a lot like Lily, same colouring, stocky legs, and big paws, except Quantum had lost her tail. She grew into a 17 pound adult cat! Our second rescue cat is my “small” cat, a mere 12 pounds. I love to hear tales of rescued animals going to good homes.

I have some of that Dream in Colour heading my way, after seing the worsted weight version in a yarn store, I can’t wait to see what the sock weight is like!

  24. I can’t walk into the Humane Society without sobbing my eyes out and emptying my wallet! LEJ and her new kitty make a beautiful pair 🙂

    Have a great weekend!

  25. Sheri, I already have some things in my cart in preparation for the next sneak up! I Will get some Wendy patterns next time around (fingers crossed). This weekend I am doing my best to complete some Pairs of socks. Using sport weight yarn (Serendipity and Yarntini) gives me a fighting chance.

Two of our three cats came from the humane society and they are the best!

Looking forward to getting my next yarn shipment….

  26. That recipe is in my family cookbook, but with only 4-5 cups of special K and no vanilla. I’ll have to try adding the vanilla next time, but the bars stick together better with less cereal. They are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE. I can only make them for family gatherings because otherwise I could eat a whole pan in about two days.

I’m so glad I ordered the Dream in Color I wanted right away. I’ve gotten my Mom interested in socks too, and she got some of the Sockina Cotton, the one that you knitted up. She is so excited for the self patterning yarn. It’s going to be her ‘first socks’.

  27. So, if you eat a whole pan of Special K bars, can you dance around the room singing “you can’t pinch an inch on me?”

I do indeed know about the sad kitties, since I’m a vet. I hit an admittedly rare sucker moment this week and kept a small kitten with a broken leg. He was supposed to be put down, but is instead now 3-legged, going home with a very nice girl, and soaking up all the attention like cream. I should take a picture of him at some point and put it up on my blog.

Just as well that the Sneak up is mostly over. I’m supposed to be shopping for my Hogwarts Sock Kit Swap pal – and I’m not at all sure what her desires are yet!!

  28. What a lovely, lucky cat. I bet that’s what our new baby will look like when she grows a bit more. We did not have to go to the humane society though. the FedEx guy brought the kittens to Webs, Girl made a call to her father, and the next thing you know there’s a 4 week old kitten living in my office! And to think, two days ago, I wasn’t a “cat person”!

  29. Delighted that you had such a great (huge!) sneak-up. I’m holding out for the Wollmeise, but will probably weaken when that comes in. ”

Labor Day means that the heat wave may be nearing the end…109 degrees here yesterday and I think it must be near that today. We, thankfully, have air conditioning and ceiling fan in living area, but I’ve been planning to go to our home in Ashland, Oregon, for some intensive knitting and a little theatre-going over Labor Day week…and we don’t have air conditioning there. Sigh…

Have just tried “Colin’s toe” for toe-up socks…and it is BEEEEUUUtiful! Works really well with Cat Bordhi’s new patterns. I’m excited! Can hardly wait for the Wollmeise and the new Wendy pattern.

  30. I love reading of restocking, makes me pout less that I passed on any yarn during the last sneak up. I should balance my check book during a every sneak up! Makes it a whole lot easier to resist the call of the yarn.

  31. I decided I wasn’t going to wait for the cold weather; I’m wearing my hand-knit socks anyway (though mainly the cotton-blend ones, granted….).

If the mosquitoes weren’t so bad, my preferred form of weekend knitting time would be to go to a playground with my son and let him run loose for an hour while I work on something. But I’m sure I’ll figure out something.

  32. Thanks for having such yummy yarn in the sneak up! I bought stuff for my secret pal so I was able to indulge without the guilt! Now if only I could find a away to indulge in those snack bars without the guilt.

  33. “Do you know how hard it is to be at the Humane Society and not bring another cat or dog home?”

That’s exactly why I ban myself from the Humane Society until I’m ready for another pet. I’ve gone twice in the past few years ‘just to look around’. One time I came home with a dog, and the other time a cat.

I make that same recipe, except with Rice Crispies. They’re called Scotcheroos in my family. I have no idea why. 🙂

  34. My mom was pretty ehh.. about adopting the two cats we have now, but they have both really grown on her. My favorite (and this is so sweet, get a tissue!) is our old man, Pebbles. He walks like the Duke and was living outside, ratty and sick when we found him. Now he is sleek and powerful, and always SO happy to be petted and hugged. He is also very polite – if he wants attention, he will gently tap you with his paw. If he wants to sit on the couch next to you, he’ll sit on the floor, looking up, until he is invited. SO CUTE!

You know I am rabid for some Baby Boomer, so hopefully I won’t miss that. 🙂

  35. The Special K bars are a necessity at any of our family gatherings. My niece makes them and has actually been asked to “show the bars” before being granted entry to the house. They must be good for you or they wouldn’t taste so good and disappear in so little time, usually before the cheese and crackers, etc. I think they are actually considered a vegetable in our family. Have a great week end knitting. it is what I plan to do.

  36. I see I am not the only one with OCD when it comes to yarn and your shop!! I am so excited about the next sneak up. I have been wanting to try out all those yarns and replenish the others!!
You are so wonderful to help a kitty find a forever home!! I have five. One, my Siamese Truffles, was a shelter kitty and the other four are ferals that arrived at my door. The difference between a feral and a stray is that the feral is wild, never having had human contact. Well actually one of them was a kitten to one of my ferals and I stole her when she was three days old!! I raised her and had her mom spayed. The kitten who is now 6 has epilepsy and takes valium everyday. She is a very laid back kitty now. 🙂
Thank you for being such a wonderful yarn shop!! Have a great holiday and I will be checking my email diligently for that next sneak up.

  37. I have bought more yarn from loopy in the last two weeks than I’ve probably bought total in the last year…I’ve been really REALLY bad. I have more sock yarn than I think I could knit in a year too.

Cute kitty, makes me miss mine, and want more kittens!

This weekend, well there will be more cleaning and work than knitting, but I always find time for knitting, and spinning!

  38. Congrats to LEJ on her new best furry friend! We have three shelter kitties – including our own Lily – who came as a package deal last year. Our Lily was so feral that the shelter vet had a hard time treating her. It took five weeks of building up trust before she would even let me touch her. Now she is all about belly rubs! 😀

Even though I’ll be getting a package from the last sneak up, count me among the folks who keep looking for Wollmeise to reappear. Dare we hope?

  39. Sheri – I love your blog. Your sense of humor is fabulous. Many thanks to all who are helping out. I loved the sneak-up — sorry for the multiple orders. I can never seem to remember what I needed and I wanted to make sure I ordered some of Wendy’s sock patterns. I can’t wait to smoosh my new DIC. Have a wonderful holiday weekend. Hopefully, we’ll all get some knitting in!

  40. I gotta get OUTA here! Those cookie bars look very good, very, very, good! Have a really wonderful weekend, onewhocontributedtothissurgeinorders,Terry.
(I had to copy your style:)

  41. How can it have been the best sneak up ever if I was still away on vacation?!?

But I’m back now, and ready for the next one…. Besides all the gorgeous yarn, I’m looking forward to getting hold of Wendy’s patterns.

Happy Labor Day to all you statesiders and good luck getting in more knitting time. Those are great suggestions, Sheri, and could be adapted for other holidays as well!

Wicked, wicked woman, that Aunt Ardith.
