Dream in Color

DSC01048.JPGEven more yarn going up in this week’s Sneak Up, because our next mega-order of Dream in Color has arrived. WH loves those – no re-photoing necessary! And of course we have more coming mid-September-ish. I’ll pop the Sneak Up stuff up soon. I did get one sock done out of a skein of the new Sockina Cotton – do you like it? You’ll also be glad to know (because we ALL know about my SSS) that the second sock, knit toe-up, is done past the heel and I just have some cuff left. That will make a pair, for anyone keeping track. Woohoo! I do notice that I knit patterned socks much faster, as they keep me entertained. (Ok, I’m easily entertained.) I think these are going to be really comfortable socks. I’m hoping that as I wash them over and over, they’ll get that “favorite cotton t-shirt” feel to them. Then I’m going to need to make another pair.

DSC01049.JPGRemember when I said we were running out of room in The Loopy Room? WH came up with more pegs on the wall and right now they’re holding some of the 300+ skeins of All Things Heather, waiting for the Sneak Up. Isn’t it pretty? I almost hate to sell it because I love all of that color on the wall! (But I will sell it. Minus the Bandana and Chocolate Kisses I had to take out for myself.) DSC01018.JPGHere’s a photo of another wall in the Loopy Room, just so you can get a picture of where we’re packing all of your orders. It’s just the front end of the room, but you get the idea. I won’t take photos of all of the rest of the walls/shelves/angles here at Loopy, but there’s a little glimpse. The rest you will have to see when you come to the Loopy Retreat next spring and can visit it in person. 🙂 (This photo is specifically for Wendy’s Friend Blogless L-B, who has asked for a photo of the Loopy Room before.)

I like being surrounded by yarn, but I do not think I’d like being surrounded by sheep. What do you think?

How are you coming on your Q3 Challenge? The challenge was to knit a pair of socks in a pattern that was challenging to you. I thought I’d do a Cookie A pattern, but they keep selling out before I have a chance to take a copy for myself. I DO have a skein of the lovely Wollmeise set aside to work with. (Speaking of lovely Wollmeise – more ships out to us tomorrow – yay!!) So what are you all working on for the Challenge? DSC01047.JPGMaybe I ought to do a different pattern now. We have until the end of September to put the photos up in the Q3 Gallery, so get knitting!

Did anyone else get a Pumpkin Spice Latte on opening day of the season, yesterday? (“Opening day of the pumpkin-spice-lattes-are-back season.”) I celebrated by getting a Venti and I had Barista Donna pose with the first PSL of the season. It’s not necessarily going to edge out the PM’s (Peppermint Mocha’s) but PM’s are available year-round and PSL’s come and go. Certainly worth celebrating, don’t you think? I may need another this morning, too. Is it bad to get Starbucks two days in a row? I really try not to.

  1. Yum, I love Pumpkin Spice Latte’s. I’m going to town this morning and one might just happen to sneak into my truck.

Looking forward to sneakup to see if there’s anything I can’t live without.

  2. I have yet to get my first PSL… Maybe this afternoon… Thank you so much for the pictures of the Loopy Room! That wall is fantastic! 🙂 I am working on the Zepher socks for Q3. I love them so far! 🙂 Can’t wait for the sneak up!!!!

  3. Sheri,

I generally don’t like self-striping yarns, but the Sockina is very nice. Cotton, too. I should have had some for this summer. I’m feeling the itch to order more sock yarn, but the stash amount isn’t moving. Back to school puts a crimp on my knitting time.

  4. Our Stewie either goes under the bed (and he’s 65 lbs!) or onto a rug on the floor of an interior bathroom (no windows) anytime there is the slightest hint of thunder or lightening.
All other bright lights? He loves ’em – cameras, flashlights,….uh….reflections. LOL.

  5. I am doing Cookie’s Twisted Flower sock for the Q3 challenge (my first challenge!) and I LOVED it! I had done some cabling (in a very small way) on socks before, but nothing this involved. They are so pretty and that heel is VERY cool.

Your store looks great! I hope to visit in person one day!

  6. Sheri, I had a PSL yesterday and plan to pick up another today on my way to my LYS for some Colinette Jitterbug. So don’t feel like the only knitter obsessed with pumpkin lattes. That photo of the Loopy Room represents what the concept of HEAVEN means to me. Oh, my God, I could live in that room forever! I like the look of that Sockina sock, and I’m just like you with the self-patterning yarn. I’m like a hamster on a wheel as I keep knitting to see what the color pattern is going to do next. Yeah, easily entertained.

  7. Oooh, Pumpkin Spice Lattes…too bad I just got into work otherwise I’d leave and get one.

I am not in the Q3 challenge, however I am getting myself ready to dive into knitting socks for the first time! I think that is a challenge in itself…

  8. Oh Sheri, I could just dive right in to that wall of yarn. and be completely content for the rest of my life. I am DEFINITELY coming to the retreat next spring, even if I have to bribe DH! And I can’t tell you how hap-hap-happy I am that the Wollmeise is coming – I know, I’m such a freak. I’ve just fallen in love with that stuff.

For the Q3 challenge, I am STILL on the heel flap of the Rococo sock. I managed to bend one of my metal needles (don’t ask), so I have to get another set (oh darn!). I’m using the Rococo pattern. Love the pattern, but working on size 0s is really hard – I have to put the sock down often because my hands start hurting. I really hope I can get the pair done by the end of September!

  9. Wow, that’s brave – let people know that Wollmeise is coming, if I lived closer, I would hold up the UPS man…not to give anyone any ideas or anything:) Cookie’s ideas sure are challenging – just initimidating to look at – but they are art one they are finished.

  10. Ooh, thanks for the glimpse of the Loopy Room. It does look like it would be a very happy and colorful place!

I just finished my Q3 socks this week, so I’ll add them to the gallery soon. I did the Embossed Leaves sock. They are on my happy feet right now because today’s weather is supposed to be below 90 degrees!

  11. I did go and get a PSL yesterday because I read on your blog that it was the first day. I said at lunch on Monday that I wished they would come back soon! I got a hot one and it was 90+ degrees. Crazy! I’m very excited about the sneak up! Thanks for the peak at the Loopy Room.

  12. Hey, we don’t have a problem with lightening or thunder…one of ours is thrown by a sneeze!! If anyone sneezes, he runs and hides. Not sure what could have caused this particular problem but with my allergies it makes living with him interesting!!!

  13. I myself like the eggnog lattes, but since I live far far away from latte-land I have to console myself with only very occasional Starbuck’s ‘fixes.’ Yarn travels well through the mail (fortunately) but not lattes!

  14. The next time I need to picture a “happy place”, I can think of the Loopy Room! It’s fabulous.

Josie, our chihuahua, hates the camera. As soon as I pick it up, she begins to slink away. Even with the flash off, she doesn’t like it. She’s such a cute, although weird dog, and we’ve never been able to get a photo of her looking like herself. If we force her to take a picture, she’s got her ears flattened and is glaring at us.

My Q3 challenge socks are socks that I designed all by myself. I’ve never done this before. I’m doing them two at a time, toe up, and they are midway on the foot. I’ve got quite a bit still to do, but I’m delighted to see my idea show up row by row. I’m using Dream in Color too, so it’s wonderful to knit!

  15. OoooooLala………knitters’s heaven in the Loopy Room…thanks for sharing with us……waiting for the Dream In Color yarn to be posted..one of my favorites….Starbucks on a Daily Basis…isn’t that part of the Jenny Craig program….lol

    Blogless Diane

  16. My Q3 challenge socks are from Cat’s new book. I have made one ( I also suffer from SSS) and will endeavor to get the other one going).
I’m so excited about all the cool yarn you are getting in!
    Gina

  17. My sister’s dog Chopper(her 8-year-old step-daughter named him that b/c he’s got big teeth, but he’d never bite anyone – crazy name, crazy dog but he’s really very sweet) is afraid of cameras too. Before that, I’d never heard of such a thing. Storms and loud noises, yes, but not cameras.
My cats are really jumpy. Every Tuesday is when the condo assoc does yard work – Bentley runs around looking for places to hide.

    The Sneak-Up looks fabulous!!!

  18. Oh my! is it PSL season already? the temps here reached 98 yesterday! Of course, I’m not a coffee drinker myself but I do like to indulge in a Carmel Apple Cider every now and then! yummy!
The walls of yarn are just gorgeous!

  19. Ooo, the Sockina is pretty and I’m so excited for another cotton based yarn! that wall of All Things Heather is like artwork. It makes me want to buy one of each and make my own wall yarn sculpture! If only …. 😀

  20. Wow, how can you have all that yarn without throwing it on the floor and rolling in it? Wow.
My friend lived in northern Idaho where there were a lot of Basques. She said the local news would report when they were moving their flocks and tell people to keep their dogs inside!
The sock colorway reminds me of those neapolitan Brach’s candies my mom always loved.

  21. Oooh, I didn’t know it was PSL season! I haven’t been to a Starbucks in ages, but I’ll have to go out of my way to swing by one on my way to work today. 🙂

I am a total PM addict. I know you can get them any time of the year, but I don’t — only during the holiday season. Like eggnog. It’s just more special that way. 🙂

  22. Beautiful pictures, I agree selling all that wall art would make me sad. How in the world are you going to handle the retreat? Seems there are many wanting to go, count me among them? Is it going to be a first come sign up thing? How evil am I thinking it should be offered during a SU? Oh lord, strike that thought right now….I have not got too far on my Q3 challenge sock…so many other things to do as well….I am back from a few days on Martha’s Vineyard and am glad I haven’t missed this week’s SU as I sat the last one out…of course now I want SU and Starbucks…

  23. That’s it. I’m coming! Your yarn room is making me swoon. That and you’re blogging about yarn and my all time favorite coffee flavor in the same post. I’ll even bring coffee when I come!

I think you should just build cabins in your back yard and make your home a year round knitting retreat. You’ve got great food, great coffee and amazing yarn. It’s definitely a vaca spot of choice!

  24. So I did go to Starbuck’s yesterday… While I couldn’t have the hot drink due to the weather here, I did indulge in a pumpkin scone! Yum!

  25. WOW..that’s some pretty All Things Heather. Woefully, I’ve pretty much blown my yarn budget for the year but I still have some yarn to buy before Christmas.

I have one Q3 sock done, the Twisted Flower pattern, and should cast on for the 2nd one sometime this weekend. Maybe I will set aside Labor Day as a knit-only day.

  26. I started my challenge yesterday — toe-up socks with an after-thought heel. I joined the sock club from Angela at A Swell Yarn Shop, and she sent a pattern like this — I must admit, I’m quite intimidated, but excited! I’m using Claudia Hand Paint in Sunrise that I got from you for my 1st try. And, since it’s wound in 2 balls, I’m going to start the second sock before I get the 1st one finished! What heel is in your Sockina socks?

I’m estatic that you will be sneaking up Dream in Color! I’ll be placing an order just as soon as I see it! Love that yarn!

I own a Quilt Shop, and I used to get so excited to play with my walls of fabric, but now, I wish it was all yarn like yours!! 🙂 Can’t wait to see it in person!

  27. goodness gracious, I don’t think I would ever leave the Loopy Room…all that color…I am swooning.

Yep, I saw your post Monday and got a PSL yesterday. I actually had to “argue” with the barista, he wasn’t sure they could sell them, I said, “yes you can today is the first day and it is listed on your menu”…I got one (apparently I was his first customer after a vacation). Thanks for the head’s up on the PSL!

  28. MORE DREAM IN COLOR???

When you say *soon*, what exactly do you mean by that? (developing nervous tic, finger twitching on the F5) 🙂

  29. I’m absolutely swooning over your pics! Living proof that there’s no such thing as too much yarn!

Anyway, if it makes you feel any better, I’m a Venti Iced Mocha a day gal myself. Yes, everyday. It’s part of my sanity treatment for being a SAH mom of 5 boys. I don’t even have to order, they start making it when I walk in. There… my dirty little secret… just to make you feel better! 😉

ps. I like to think that I invented the Starbucks Raspberry Mocha because I started having them make them for me about 5 years ago! But I haven’t seen any of the profits yet.

  30. Don’t do Starbucks…but I do make my own raspberry cocoa..whipped to a froth in the blender and topped with homemade whipped cream…did I mention I make the raspberry syrup from fresh berries…? Did I mention I grate my own chocolate and make the cocoa from scratch…!??! There’s MY calories for the day….And that’s just describing it!

Sure like that Sockina…having just been reminded of Dad’s wool allergy I need all the alternatives I can get! And the yarn room just makes me wanna hop in the car and head across 70…I can be there this afternoon!!

  31. PSS.. I’m not rich, I just buy coffee and sock yarn like I am. I make other sacrifices… little things like clothing for our family and such.

  32. Oh how I love the Loopy Wall. It is really fabulous I would hate to part with it also. Years ago I had a Golden Retriever who was beyond scared of thunder. I use to have to get her tranquilizers from the vet. My two dogs now are not afraid thank goodness. I wish that the weather here was more like Pumkin weather it’s still way to hot for me. Sounds like a great sneak-up. Hugs

  33. When it is lighting and thundering Gizmo hides and all of her hair starts falling out because she is scared. That explains the crazy nut dog nickname she gets. I would swoon looking at all that yarn. Oh My.

  34. I think I would just love to sleep on the floor of the Loopy Room…nirvana! My challenge is creating my very own sock pattern and I’m using yarn purchased from TLE for it!

  35. My Q3 challenge is MimKnits Seraphim Shawl (made from sock yarn), because it’s my first lace shawl, first charted lace, and first big project in several YEARS. I’ve had one lacewreck where I lost 4 rows, but I recovered and now there’s only 26 rows to go! I think I’m going to make it with a full skein of Lorna’s Laces to spare.

Now I’m eyeing up other shawl patterns you can do with sock yarn…

  36. My granddog, Maggie, has an obsessive compulsive disorder & loves flashes of light. She will bat a door around just to get a reflection she can chase. Daught & SIL have to warn anyone who wants to use a flashlight in their home because Maggie will stick to them like glue just to be able to chase the light & has been known to try & turn a flashlight on so she can chase the light. She’s either kookookachoo or really, really smart!

Can’t wait for sneak up although I told myself I wasn’t going to buy anything this time! Okay who am I trying to kid!!!! I’ll just find a new hiding spot.

  37. It’s great seeing pictures of all your beautiful yarn. When is your retreat in the spring? I’d love to come. I’m also hoping to be in STL the weekend of Nov. 17 Maybe I can see everything in person then?

  38. I will celebrate my sons first day of preschool on the 17th with a pumpkin spice latte at the brand spanking new Starbucks in town! We’ll alreayd be having cookies (ya for new traditions!) might as well have some coffee to go with mine, right? 😉

PS Can I come Iive in the Loopy Room? No? I’ll gladly settle for invading the Loopy Room on the retreat then.

I had planned to do some Cookie socks for the Q3 Challenge but turns out the socks I”m doing from Sensational Knitted Socks were more challenging than I thought they would be (96 stitches, size 1 and 0 needles, size 10 foot, non memorizable pattern= challenge for me!) so those are now my Q3 socks.

  39. Oh please! I have a 200lb Mastiff named Princess who is scared of cameras, lightening, fireworks, strangers etc. Here favorite hiding places are the bathtub, the tiny area between the toilet and the wall and my closet. She’s stopped trying to get under the fireplace, she got stuck last time. It’s the funniest darn thing when you walk into the bathroom and see her in the bathtub……love to have a picture of that but…..

If I finish my Monkeys, that will be my Q3 entry! Good day to ya.

  40. Oh, my Q3 challenge project #1 is coming out SO good. It’s one of “those” projects… the ones that miraculously just WORK! I’m still fairly new to knitting and haven’t ventured out very far yet. No lace, no cables. But that’s what I’m attacking. Now I know everyone under the sun is knitting Monkey socks… but hey… it’s lace and it seemed like it was manageable given the number of people knitting it. I had an idea for “curious monkey” socks for my daughter who loves Curious George. I had to do some tweaking to the stitch pattern, but it’s working out like magic! They are going to be SO awesome! I’ve got a wee start of them on my blog, but should have a sock done in the next couple days. YAY!

    Next up… cables…

  41. On my goodness, Sheri – How do you ever stand to leave the Loopy Room with all those beautiful colors and all that YARN?? Hubby would be in big trouble if I were you…He would have to drag me away kicking and screaming just to get dinner! Oh no…more Dream in Color on the sneak-up? I am addicted to that stuff, ya know….you enabler, you! I have my eye on two colors…hopefully I will be able to grab them up after payday!

Yes, my dogs definitely have an issue with thunder and rain…In fact, we call our Yorkie “Thunderdog”! We know before we can hear it that there is thunder in the vicinity…she starts running from door to door, barking her fool head off…like she can scare the thunder away or something, and our lab is starting to pick up the habit as well. That is just a warm-up for when the first drop of rain hits one of the bathroom or kitchen vents…then she really goes nuts! After a while, she finally gets used to the extra noise and settles down, thank goodness!

  42. Those cotton socks are gorgeous. I may have to rethink my position on that type of yarn. I will keep my eyes peeled! I love pumpkin more than anyone I know – pumpkin pie, pumpkin ice cream, PSLs. But even I think that AUGUST is a little early for fall flavors – it is still the SUMMER of socks, after all!

  43. When my husband and I were first dating, he had a big German Shepherd named Rudy who was terrified of fireworks. Lightning with rumbling thunder didn’t bother him much, but sharp loud noises like fireworks or cars backfiring would make him cringe. Watching that huge dog trying to curl up and hide under a tree root was pretty funny!

I was about to give up on my “I Love Gansey” socks (this month’s Six Sox KAL) because they’ve been driving me nuts, but with your Q3 challenge as incentive I might just finish the darn things after all. As soon as I finish the baby blanket for my niece’s second child, she’s having a Caesarean next week.

  44. Beautiful sock! I have to post a photo of my Q3 sock, which was my first attempt at chart-reading. (Tonight…) I didn’t get my pumpkin latte, but today’s another opportunity!

My basset hound couldn’t care less about storms. It’s the jack russell that sits on top of whatever I’m knitting when he hears thunder, or the weird beep the cordless phone makes when the battery dies…

  45. Oh Wow! I’m moving in!! LOL! Thanks for those pictures!! I love the wall O’Heather too! I’m stopping by Starbucks on the way home too! I need a PSL!

  46. I love that All Things Heather. I go online and go through the yarn photos every other day just to pretend I could squeeze them! Those colors are fabulous. I think I would want to sleep in all that yarn. Wait, I DO sleep with my yarn. Half done sock on the floor by the bed, more socks on the dresser, basket of yarn to be wound, yarn to be dyed, tub of leftover balls of yarn, patterns, etc.
I’m doing River Rapids socks by sockbug for Q3 challenge. Very fun.
We will be getting a Starbucks here in Sept. Will try out that PSL. Looking forward to the SU!

  47. I’m so glad you posted those pics of the Loopy Room!! I’ve been wanting to see it myself. That looks so yummy. I could get lost in there! 🙂
