The Christmas knitting is done, and not a moment too soon. Here are the mittens I made from Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport in Mother Lode, double-stranded. It’s from my favorite mitten pattern, which we sold out of the last time I showed you mittens from there! (The patterns are on order and will be back again in a week or two. Added later: guess what? They just came in the mail! Here they are.) What I love about this mitten is how well-fitted it is. Snug on the bottom so that no air zips up inside there. The double stranding makes it wonderfully thick and warm. 
Also finished, the socks out of Posh Cashmere/merino yarn. I love how these turned out and they are soft and comfortable. (Another big Posh order is winging its way to us from the UK – due to arrive in the next couple of weeks. You’ll want to get some and knit with it. I’ll let you know when it arrives.) I can’t tell you who these gifts are for, but they’ll like them. My goal for next Christmas is WAY more knitting than this!
Today’s recipe is another good salad recipe. (I love good salad recipes. Do any of you have ones you want to share with me? I’m always looking for more.) We make this as a meal, along with the Cornbread Rolls, shared previously.
BLT in a Bowl
Romaine and Iceberg lettuce
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1/2 lb. sliced bacon
1 pt. cherry tomatoes
1/2 lb. Jarlsberg cheese (or mozzarella)
1/4 lb. Parmesan
medium sized lemon
large clove of garlic
3/4 cup vegetable oil
Toast the almonds at 300 degrees for 12-15 minutes or until golden. Cut bacon into 1″ pieces and saute in pan. Drain.
Squeeze 3 Tbl. lemon juice from the lemon. Combine this with crushed garlic. Beat with a whisk and add the oil slowly, whisking until well-blended.
Combine all ingredients and toss with the dressing. Enjoy! 🙂
I need to attempt to pack for our trip. We leave tomorrow. My parents are taking us on a cruise for their 50th anniversary and my head is not into warm-weather-clothing. At all. In fact, I’m always a bit happy to be putting those clothes away for the season and pulling the sweaters out. I do have friends who LOVE the warm weather and would love a mid-winter getaway to somewhere beachy. How about you? Are you a “warm weather” person or a “cold weather” person? I’m looking at pictures of the snow in Denver and thinking that would be fun! At any rate, I thought I’d share a picture of my parents (aka: Mimi and Papa) with their grandkids – Knitting Daughter and College Boy. I’ll keep my eye out for interesting stories or photos next week, and will be anxious to return to all of you and share them. I’m thinking the next blog post will be on Wednesday the 3rd.

Have a great trip! My family called my grandmother Mimi too. She taught me to knit along with my aunts Pricilla and Barbara. I still miss her at Christmas time. I hope the kids realize how important it is to hang out with them.

Merry Christmas from a fellow cold-weather person! I too have been looking at pictures of snow-clad Denver with envy. I become quite cranky the instant the temperature goes over 75; I taught summer school in Richmond, VA this past year, and it was NOT for me.

I am a warm weather person but that is no surprise, being from a temperate climate where we never get snow (or even frost for more than 2 hours). We did however have hail drifts this Christmas – some very much needed rain (and snow on the highlands) fell.

I just found the Loopy Ewe and your blog. I’m excited about them. My parents took us on a cruise for their 50th anniversary this summer. But ours was to a cooler climate, the Baltic Sea. Isn’t it nice that they want to share their celebrations?!
