Madelinetosh, Rowan, Into the Whirled and More

madelinetosh-dk-Dahlia-The-Loopy-EweWe have new things up on the website for you tonight. Since we missed last week due to Camp Loopy, we have added a little extra for tonight. Just up, you’ll find:

Madelinetosh DK – we’ve re-stocked more than 90 colors for you. This is a popular weight for sweaters (try the Gnarled Oak Cardigan, Cinnie, or Blank Canvas), shawls (how about the Clementine Shawlette, Anjeli, Great Divide, or  Shaelyn), hats, scarves and cowls. Shown here in Dahlia.

rowan-fine-art-Chiff-Chaff-The-Loopy-EweRowan Fine Art – a fingering weight yarn that is perfect for socks and shawls. The base is 45% Merino Wool, 20% Kid Mohair, 10% Mulberry Silk and 25% Polyamid. It will be warm (thanks to the wool and mohair) and it will wear well (thanks to the silk and polyamid). Shown here in Chiff Chaff because 1) I like that name a lot and 2) it’s a great neutral color.

Shibui Heichi – a re-stock on all of the  colors, as well as new colors for the season. We’ve had a trunk show in the shop with garments made out of Heichi, and have had fun seeing what people are making. Try it with the Mondo Cable Pulli, Beeline, or Garance.

Shibui Linen – a new base for us, which is especially nice for spring and summer tops. This is a fingering weight, which can be doubled for heavier weight patterns. Perfect for Linen Top, Rock Ness, Silken Straw Summer Sweater, Insouciant, Flow, or Deep V Tee.

Shibui Silk Cloud and Sock  – re-stocked.

into-the-whirled-pakkoku-A-Musing-Anecdote-The-Loopy-EweInto the Whirled – more of the very popular Pakkoku fingering weight base in their wonderful color combinations. This is a great yarn for socks, fun multi-color scarves and shawls (like Hitchhiker, Lintilla, Trillian, and A  Little Jazz.) All of those little shawl/scarves make great one-skein, quick knit gifts. Shown here in A Musing Anecdote.

ChiaoGoo a re-stock of all needle sizes.

Atenti Bags – new fabrics and popular re-stocks in both the Overnighter Bags and the Baguette Bags. I love these bags. The Overnighter is perfect for larger projects (sweaters, afghans) or for corralling all of your smaller project bags into one nice looking place. They also make great bags to carry on to planes. The Baguette Bags are just the right size for one or two skein projects (socks, cowls, shawls, hats).

Beads and Beading Hooks – re-stocked. Again, we’ve ordered as many of the beading hooks as they had available in these two sizes. We’ll keep doing that!

Enjoy the new things and we’ll be back in the shop tomorrow to get all of your orders packed up and shipped out.

A Long Weekend Ahead

We’re getting ready for a holiday weekend, with Memorial Day on Monday. We’ll also have an Update for you on Monday evening so be on the lookout for that. (Want to know what’s going up? Madelinetosh DK, Atenti Overnighter Bags, Into the Whirled Pakokku, Shibui Linen, and Rowan’s new sock yarn. Also, bead and needle re-stocks. Check back on Monday night! For those of you doing Camp Loopy with us this summer, we added in the camp t-shirts this week.

Here’s a great recipe that my dear friend Monica shared on her blog, The Yummy Life. I made this this week and it was delicious. I used it in a salad – lettuce, grilled chicken, and this salsa on top. (Trying to replicate Qdoba’s Mango Chicken Salad, which I love.) It would also be a great salsa on top of burgers, grilled fish or chicken, or as a side dish with chips.

Mango-cucumber-salsa-the-yummy-lifeMango Cucumber Salsa from The Yummy Life

1  1/3 cups chopped mango (2-3 mangoes)
1/2 cup chopped cucumber (peeled for regular cucumbers, or unpeeled if using a Persian cucumber)
1/4 cup chopped red onion
1-2 Tbl. diced jalapeños (for less heat, remove seeds and membrane. I did!)
1 minced garlic clove
1/3 cup roughly chopped fresh cilantro (mint or parsley may also be substituted. I used the cilantro.)
1 Tbl. lime juice (from approx. 1/2 lime)
Salt and pepper to taste

Mix and serve. You can also chill it for several hours, but be sure to drain any accumulated liquid before serving.

In addition to this Mango Salsa recipe, check out Monica’s Classic Pico de Gallo Salsa and her Strawberry & Red Bell Pepper Salsa. (And if you wonder how in the heck to chop up a mango? She has a post for that, too!)

Have a great weekend and get some knitting done! I’m happy to say my seven day “no knitting” streak is over. I’m working with a new yarn that we hope to have soon at the shop, and it’s awesome.
