2024 Box of Socks

Make 2024 the year you complete our Box of Socks challenge! The Loopy Ewe is partnering with Little Squirrel Yarn to help you succeed in making 12 pairs of hand knit socks in 2024. Our year of socks will include prizes throughout the year from both LSY and TLE for those who choose to accept the challenge. The prospect may seem daunting in January, but you can do it! We’ll be with you every step of the way. Now is a great time to start building out your sock drawer!

What is the 2024 Box of Socks Challenge?

Afraid of committing to a pair of socks every month? Work at your own pace! While the spirit of the challenge is to complete a pair of socks each month, you can mix things up to suit your schedule and crafting style. If you want to sprint and get them all done quickly – that’s fine!  If you tend to procrastinate (or find out about it late) you can play catch up and make more than one pair in a month. Make the type of socks you like! Toe up? Great! Top down? Fantastic! Use your favorite toe, heel, gusset, patterning, etc! OR challenge yourself to try new techniques for each – it’s up to you! Do you prefer to use a heavier weight? That’s fine, too! DK weight socks are snuggly warm and count for the challenge. Knit? Great! Crochet? Also great! Matching socks? Great. Mismatched socks? Yay! You do yo.

Whatever your path, the ultimate goal is to have 12 pairs of socks completed at the end of the year. How you reach the finish line is totally up to you – we just want you to enjoy the journey. We’ll be here to cheer you on no matter how you tackle the challenge!

To add to the fun, Little Squirrel Yarn will be dyeing up an exclusive sock set each month that you can use for your Box of Socks. January’s sock set – Shine Bright – is already available! If a certain colorway isn’t your cup of tea, you can also use other yarns purchased at The Loopy Ewe or Little Squirrel Yarn.

How to Join the 2024 Box of Socks Challenge

Joining the 2024 Box of Socks Challenge is easy! The first step is to purchase yarn for your socks from either The Loopy Ewe or Little Squirrel Yarn. After that, to get credit for your socks, you will need to:

• Post a photo of your supplies or freshly cast-on socks on Instagram starting January 1, 2024
• Post a photo of your finished pair of socks in Instagram
• You must include #TLExLSY and #2024BoxofSocks in your caption (this is a must – we can’t track your progress otherwise. You also need to make sure your account is public, so we’re able to see your photos)
• Repeat for each pair of socks you start and finish until you reach your 12 pair!
• We will track all participants and sock finishers!

2024 Box of Socks Details

• All yarn for the challenge must be purchased from The Loopy Ewe or Little Squirrel Yarn on or after 12/12/2023 – but start your socks only on January 1, 2024 or after!
• All socks need to be adult-sized and complete (both socks cast off) to count as a finished pair.
• The deadline for completing socks + posting photos is January 1, 2025 at noon, MST.
• To be entered into prize drawings, photos of both the start and finish of the sock must be posted to instagram with the tags #TLExLSY and #2024boxofsocks on a public account. You will know we have seen them if you get a like from LSY or TLE!

Prizes?!?

• We’ll draw prizes at the end of each quarter (March, June, September, December) to help motivate and keep you on track throughout the year! Each post enters you into the current quarter’s prize drawing. As long as you’re posting your starts and finishes on instagram, you’re automatically entered into the drawings.
• We’ll draw for two grand prizes at the end of the year from those who have completed all twelve pairs of socks.

Frequently asked questions

 Technical Details:

• I’m not on Instagram. How do I participate? You’re welcome to participate and sock along anyway! Instagram is the social media platform of choice for TLExLSY’s Box of Socks Challenge so that we have an easy way to track everything. This is solely for the prize drawings though! If you don’t dig social media, you can just sock along with us and not worry about posting photos.
• How do I know you’re tracking my progress? We’ll “like” your photo on Instagram! If Little Squirrel Yarn or The Loopy Ewe has liked your post, that means we’ve seen it and added the info to our records! Please note: If it has been more than 72 hours since your post and this hasn’t happened, then we probably don’t have access to it. If your account is set to Private, we can’t see your posts. A few options:  you can either set it to Public, create a public account just for sock-y posts, or send us a message through Instagram and ask us to follow you. Once you approve that request from us, we’ll be able to see what you post.
