Sweater Weather (and Book Giveaway!)

Happy Fall! The leaves are turning around here and the Aspens are golden up in the mountains. Still waiting for real crisp weather mornings, but I think that’s just around the corner. How about where you are?

When things start to get chilly, I start to think about warm knitwear – sweaters, cowls, hats, scarves – I can’t wait to get it all out and start bundling up! We just added in some perfect sweater yarn for you.

Spud and Chloe Sweater – One of the things I love about Sweater is the base composition. It’s 55% Superwash Merino and 45% Cotton. This has been my go-to yarn for baby blankets, but I’m about to knit a sweater out of it for the very same reasons. The addition of cotton in there makes it feel wonderful without adding too much heat to the equation! You will love knitting with this – whether for baby, kids, or adults. Pattern ideas: Shellseeker, Belvedere Cardigan, Stitch Block CowlChevron Baby Blanket, Pine Forest Baby Blanket, and Golden Pear.

Spud and Chloe Outer – Another wonderful base mix with 65% Superwash Merino and 35% cotton, and since this is a Super Bulky yarn, it knits up really quickly. Try this for some of our holiday gifts – your friends and family will love them. Pattern ideas: Fibre Space Beanie Hat, GAP-tastic CowlSerendipity, Super Soft Merino Hats for Everyone, Cush, and Azel Pullover.

Blue Sky Fibers Worsted Cotton – Sensitive to wool? Then try Blue Sky Worsted Cotton. This worsted weight yarn is 100% cotton, knits up beautifully, and looks just as beautiful two or three years later. It’s a great basic yarn. Pattern ideas: Shale Baby Blanket, Simple Summer Tweed Top Down V-Neck, The Walt Painted Chevron Baby Blanket, Tiered Coat & Jacket, A Noble Cowl, and Granny Stripes.

We also added in two new enamel pins

And finally, we’ve re-stocked a lot of buttons. Find them here!

Our last Yarn Update included: Dream in Color’s September Pop Up Skein, The Uncommon Thread Lush Worsted, Everyday Singles, Posh Fingering, and Merino DK.

We are doing a book drawing every Monday from now through the end of the year (thanks to the donation of some amazing books from our neighbor – F&W Media/Interweave!). Last week’s books go to: Teresa C from CO and Lynn B from IL. (Teresa – I know you’ll be in to pick up your book. Lynn – email us with address confirmation and we’ll get this right out to you!)  I had asked if you mostly knit to challenge yourself or relax and based on your answers, most people knit to relax (or a combination of both).

This week’s contest question: What other crafts do you do besides knitting or crocheting? We’ll randomly pick the winners and announce them next week! Leave a comment below to enter. Here are the two books we’ll be giving away:

Thank you for checking out the new things! We hope you find some beautiful yarn and accessories that you can’t live without. We’ll get them packed right up for you.

  1. I create scrapbook photo albums. My (young adult) children hate having their picture taken but they love looking at albums of themselves!

  2. I’ve pretty much tried them all. Cross stitch, beading, scrapbooking, sewing. But I love to knit most of all.

  3. I am currently teaching myself how to spin better, machine sew, and embroider.

A Hand Knit Romance looks like a romantic’s dream pattern book.

  4. I cross stitch and sew (Halloween costumes for my husband and son and clothing for myself). I also garden, if I can avoid the mosquitoes.

  5. I do a little of everything, but right now for work I’m mostly doing jewelry, cupcake decorating and lettering. And outside of that, mostly seeing for my nieces.

  6. My two main crafts now are knitting and crocheting. I used to do latch hook rugs, embroidery, bead jewelry, cross stitch, etc. I still garden and bake.

  7. Love to try out new things. But I often get into new things to help my kids (as in also teaching them to knit and participate in Camp Loopy), such as pottery painting and “diamond painting” which is really a bead and adhesive craft on a pre-printed background. 🙂

  8. Over the years I have tended to craft in waves. Crochet, knitting cross stitch, sewing, and quilting with a little crewel embroidery thrown into the mix. Now I primarily knit, though I have a pieced window covering that I need to finish before winter.

  9. Weaving, a little embroidery and a little sewing, and occasionally other spontaneous crafts like decorating dishtowels or felting soap. But I always always knit!

  10. Way back when (last century), I did a lot of sewing and embroidery, and a little crochet. I’d like to get back to doing all of them- I still have all the stuff!

  11. A long time again I did cross-stitch, but I kept losing the needle and my dad would later find the needle with his foot. Maybe I’ll try it again now that I’m older and less prone to losing needles.

  12. Oh, that handknit romance book, I’m crossing my fingers for that one! I am working on my embroidery and I do some bookbinding. Also working on my sewing, and have dabbled with jewelry and weaving.

  13. I do a whole bunch of fiber crafts – I sew, quilt, weave, spin, and embroider. I also dabble in woodworking and paper crafts.

The Knitting Wizardry book looks really neat.

  14. Other crafts? … I’ve been knitting since age 6 or 7, but have also done needlepoint, crochet, counted cross stitch, candlewicking, oil painting, stained glass, garment sewing, and quilting.

  15. I’m primarily a quilter. I knit a little, embroider a little, crochet a little, and weave a bit more–but quilting kind of took over. I have friends who love to knit though, so even if I decide not the keep the book it won’t go to waste (Christmas gift).

  16. I like to weave and embroider and cross stitch. I sort of go from a block of one craft and then wander onto another one but knitting is always my go to project.

  17. I’ve done cross stitch. I want to learn how to crochet. I want to learn how to weave too. I just don’t seem to have enough hours in the day.

  18. I garden, sew, embroider, and cross stitch. Not at the level I now knit and crochet. But they are still in the encyclopedia of skills.

The Wizardy book looks like fun.

  19. I’d love to win Knitting Wizardry!

I also do Hardanger embroidery, and a bit of quilting. And sewing, mostly of square dance outfits.

  20. It’s still so hot here it feels like autumn is a million years away…. and so very dry it’s depressing. I know most people love sunshine, but I’m desperate for some cool rainy days.

Besides knitting (and a smattering of crochet), I spin, quilt and do cross stich. Less quilting and cross stitch as of late, but I’ve totes and shelves full of supplies still. I also fell hard for the adult coloring book fad, but haven’t yet actually colored anything 🙂

  21. I do origami and other paper crafts. I’ve done calligraphy and jewelry-making in the past, and keep meaning to get back to them someday.

  22. I needlepoint and do paper crafts, like card and book making. And, I did a scrapbook for my in-laws’ 50th wedding anniversary. I used to do counted cross stitch as well. I occasionally sew, but, only when forced! lol I’m going to start working with sculpting clay, if I ever get my oven working again!

  23. I crocheted for over 25 years, but it’s fallen by the wayside sadly. I still have several projects in process. Maybe if I can still see when I retire I’ll pick them up again. I would love to win A Handknit Romance. There are so many lovely patterns in it.

  24. I make jewelry (mostly wirework & chain maille), dye stuff (serious snow dye addict), and I make books and other items on Shutterfly. I also dabble in stamping when the mood hits me – I love to make tags. I would also love to learn how to sew better with my machine. 🙂

  25. I love variety – I’ve tried huck weaving, sewing, quilting, cross-stitch, rug hooking, and almost everything else at least once.

  26. I have a sewing machine and when I have a little bit more time I try to see something.
Also I just bought a starter spinning kit and hopefully I can learn soon.
