Baa-ble Hat, Cowl and Mittens!

We love these patterns by Donna Smith. She designed the Baa-ble Hat for last year’s Shetland Wool Week and it was a huge hit. I was at Rhinebeck last fall and saw these hats bobbing (baaaa-bing?) along all over the place! I love the whole design – from the snowflakes to the border of sheep, to the colors above and below.

This year, she has designed a Baa-ble Mittens and Cowl to match. Same adorable design, but translated to new winter wear. Yay!

Are you ready to make one? Or two?
We all want to make one here at Loopy, so we have put together some color sets via our Loopy Project Planner pages on our website. Each planner page shows a different color combination. If you want to knit along with us, you can easily click the “Shopping List” link to the right and then click “add to cart” and one skein of each of those colors will pop into your cart. You will get 100 gr. skeins, which will make two of the three Baa-bles. (Hat plus cowl? Cowl plus mitts? Hat plus mitts? Hat for you and hat for a friend?) The links above will take you to Ravelry to buy the patterns from Donna.

Some color combinations that we liked:

Black/White/Tan/Blue Set

Black/White/Green/Blue Set

Black/White/Red/Gray Set

Of course the sky is the limit when picking out colors for these designs. We like Cascade 220 Superwash for this, but you’ll find additional color options with Cascade 220, Stonehedge Shepherd’s Wool, Black Water Abbey and Cascade 220 Superwash Aran.

We think Donna’s Baa-ble designs are truly fun and we wanted to highlight and share them with you today.
We hope you like them as much as we do, and we’ll be sure to share our finished projects when they are completed!

  1. Adorable; too bad I don’t knit anything that complicated (actually, I don’t knit much at all…I’m horribly slow).

    1. Hi Kelly – we don’t sell the completed hats, but you can find the pattern in the blog link above, and you can find the yarn options we came up with in the links in the blog, too. They are fun to knit!

  2. I would like to make a doll, from the Arne and Carlos book. What kind of yarn do you think would work best???
