Camp Loopy Songs

We’re having fun camping this summer! In July, we divided our campers into chat groups by campfire song title. So of course we had to have them come up with Camp Loopy lyrics to the tune of their chat group song. Which group nailed it the best? What do you think?

To the tune of Home on the Range:

Home on the Range (Camp Loopy style!)

Oh give me a home where the alpaca roam,
Where the sheep and the cashmere goats play.
Where seldom is heard, a yarn-cussing word,
And the knitters are ready to stay.

Camp Loopy is here,
Got my pattern and my glass of wine,
And a full-spectrum lamp, hope my fingers don’t cramp,
So I finish before the deadline.

Oh give me a home, with much room to roam,
So I have enough space for my stash,
Each year after Fling we must add a new wing,
But my hubby says there’s no more cash.

Wollmeise is best,
When I’m knitting a shawl or a vest,
But use MadelineTosh for the socks that you’ll wash,
And a little more wine when you’re stressed.

I planned for a while both the color and style,
Of the project I’d knit during June,
Now I’m all in a rage ’cause I used the wrong gauge,
And the deadline is coming up soon.

Knit, purl and increase,
Add a cable, a bauble, or twist,
I’ll try not to bi*ch if I drop a stitch,
If I do, then I’ll surely be pissed.

Got my sticks and my string for this glampfire sing,
And my Ravelry friends sending hugs.
With each knit and each purl I’m a Loopy Ewe girl,
But I’ve emptied the last of my jugs.

Yarn’s different from wine,
One accumulates, one just runs out.
But they each make me smile, so I’ll knit for a while,
Then I’ll buy more of both there’s no doubt.

To the tune of The Happy Wanderer:

The Happy Stitcher

I love knitting and crocheting,
With yarn in great amount,
And as I stitch, I love to sing…
Oh darn, I’ve lost my count.

Chorus:
Julie Spins, and Cascade,
Socktopus,
And Wollmeis-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Loopy Ewe, Colinette,
Oh darn, I’ve lost my count.

I love to play with pretty string,
In colors deep and rich,
So joyously it speaks to me…
Oh drat, I’ve dropped a stitch.

Chorus:
Julie Spins, and Cascade,
Socktopus,
And Wollmeis-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Loopy Ewe, Colinette,
Oh drat, I’ve dropped a stitch.

I shake my head at all I meet,
When they come speak to me,
And curse beneath my breath and say,
“I’m counting, can’t you see?”

Chorus:
Julie Spins, and Cascade,
Socktopus,
And Wollmeis-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Loopy Ewe, Colinette,
I’m counting, can’t you see?

And late at night, all patience gone,
I’m feeling very taxed
But still I stitch, I cannot stop,
I swear that I’m relaxed.

Chorus:
Julie Spins, and Cascade,
Socktopus,
And Wollmeis-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Loopy Ewe, Colinette,
I swear I am relaxed.

Camp Loopy keeps me busy,
In buying I’m no Scrooge,
The projects all so gorgeous…
My queue is now quite huge.

Chorus:
Julie Spins, and Cascade,
Socktopus,
And Wollmeis-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Loopy Ewe, Colinette,
My queue is now quite huge.

And when my project’s over,
The new one not begun,
I visit Loopy’s website for…
Another Box of Fun.

Chorus:
Julie Spins, and Cascade,
Socktopus,
And Wollmeis-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Loopy Ewe, Colinette,
A big ole Box of Fun.

Oh, may I go a-stitching
Until the day I’m dead!
Oh, may I always hook and knit,
Oh shoot, the colors bled!

Chorus:
Julie Spins, and Cascade,
Socktopus,
And Wollmeis-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha,
Loopy Ewe, Colinette,
(Big Finale Now!)
Oh shooooooooot, the colors bled.

To the tune of Country Roads:

Cast them on, Ewe Loopy yarns

I’m in heaven, Loopy Glampin’,
Friends and cocktails, virtual campin’.
Stash is growing, colors of the rainbow,
Swatch a pattern, add a project photo.

It’s Camp Loopy when summer rolls around
Browse your patterns, yarn choices abound.
Old and new friends, hangin’ round the fire,
Needles clicking, singing like a choir.

Loopy yarns, cast them on.
On my needles, you belong,
Colorado, knit nirvana, cast them on,
Ewe Loopy yarns.

Oh the rhythm of the stitches how they soothe me,
Mellow as the breeze that blows through mountain air,
In Camp Loopy we’ll spread warm feelings
With the campers who do share and care, share and care.

Loopy yarns, cast them on.
On my needles, you belong,
Colorado, knit nirvana, cast them on,
Ewe Loopy yarns.

Loopy yarns, cast them on.
On my needles, you belong,
Colorado, knit nirvana, cast them on,
Ewe Loopy yarns.

Loopy Ewe, we’re loving you.
Loopy Ewe, we’re loving you.

To the tune of Oh, Susanna:

We knit, crochet, and sew things, too. We’re creative as can be.
So many projects we can do, but we only need three.
We’re at the start of Project Two, yet think of number three.
Working hard so we’ll be through; our photos for to see.

Chorus:
Oh, Camp Loopy
It’s where I want to be.
Sitting at the campsite with
My yarn cake by my knee.

Colors and yarn do run around my tiny little brain.
I’m never sure just what to make – the prize is mine to claim.
I knit all day and sew all night. The work just never stops.
I better catch a wink or two before my body pops.

Chorus:
Oh, Camp Loopy
It’s where I want to be.
Sitting at the campsite with
My fabric by my knee.

We come from here; we come from there. The whole world we do span.
Our work is done with lots of flair; it’s all part of the plan.
Too many patterns from which to choose; the colors, they are great.
No matter what, we cannot lose. Just meet the deadline date!

Chorus:
Oh, Camp Loopy
It’s where I want to be.
Sitting at the campsite with
Loopy by my knee.

To the tune of Row Row Row Your Boat (our fabric group):

Sew, sew, sew your quilt
Happily in your room
Loopily, Loopily, Loopily, Loopily
Camp is really fun!

Sew sew sew sew your quilt
Cut down the pretty fabric
Piece it, slice it, shape it
Into something nice!

Sew, Sew, Sew your stash
Cut it into bits!
Piece them together again and again
Making quilts with glitz!

Cut, cut, cut those shapes,
Make sure you’re on the line,
Measuring, marking, snipping, cutting,
Hey, I need some wine!

Sew, sew, sew those seams,
Make sure they all are straight,
Laughing, singing, sewing, ripping,
My camping group is great.

Iron, iron, iron those seams,
Make sure they all are flat,
Pressing, steaming, flattening, smoothing,
It’s time to sit and chat!

Piece, piece, piece those shapes,
We work to make them fit,
Pinning, sewing, cursing, ripping,
Let’s hike in just a bit.

Quilt, quilt, quilting now,
Camp Loopy’s so much fun,
Chatting, singing, laughing, sewing,
And camping in the sun.

Camp, camp, camping now,
My project is all done,
Plotting, planning, laughing, talking,
ordering boxes of fun!

Great job, Campers! So – did you have a favorite out of those six songs?

  1. All of the songs are wonderful and I think that they capture the fun of Camp Loopy!! I want to support my fellow wanderers and vote for The Happy Stitcher!

  2. home on the range is classic but then again they all are. BRILLIANT, truly brilliant, I cant decide if they should be turned into “TLE: The Musical” or a concert tour. But I’m also wondering when the CD will be released, music to knit by, year round, with the essence of summer camp in every stitch…

  3. My vote is for row row your boat. Country roads song in my mind butchered the actual song. But once camp is done so am I and down that country road I will go to a place where people see me not some disorder.

  4. Excellent job to all of the Campers! I only wish I had joined in all the fun. Kudos to you all!

  5. They’re all great, but I have to vote for Oh Susannah, Chrispy1 of Oz made a delightful video of our song. Also, with some help with a needed extra verse, I wrote the lyrics – have to vote

  6. They are all really great– WOW we are a talented group aren’t we? I actually I have 2 favorites —– but then I’m in 2 groups so that might explain that huh! Sheri can I vote for more the one???? Pass me the wine and another S’more and I’ll think on it!

  7. I have to go with “Row row row your boat”. Not only is it a great song, but the sewists are all totally new to this camping thing and should get extra points just for that 🙂

  8. I have to vote for the Land of the Silver Birches. We went from a song that none of us had ever heard of to that cute knitting song that I catch myself actually singing now! Knittygirl78 did a great job catching the spirit of The Loopy Ewe and camp while managing to stick to the actual tune!

  9. Thanks Sheri— I was so torn. Hard to pick a favorite when you belong to two great groups!!! So Row Row Row Your Boat and Land of the Silver Birches both get my vote. The campers in both groups all contributed some great ideas! I do have to say that Knittygirl78 putting it to music and pictures was an EXTRA SPECIAL TOUCH!!!

  10. There is some amazing talent I our knitting community outside of the stitching. My vote goes to the The Happy Stitcher supporting my fellow Happy Wanderers.

  11. It is a very difficult choice, but I must stick with my Oh Susanna group and Oh Camp Loopy! I love them all!

  12. Just saw where you can vote for more than one song – so I will toss in a second vote for Row Row Row Your Boat!

  13. It’s hard to vote for one as they are all so good! However, Happy Wander captures my feelings about CampLoopy and knitting in general – I’m always counting stitches! So my vote goes to Happy Wander!

  14. I vote for the Land of the Silver Birches. I also really like Home on the Range. All of the songs are just wonderful! What a great activity for all of us campers.

  15. I’d like to vote for the Land of the Silver Birch. Knittygirl78 did a great job of putting our lyrics in a video! Plus, it’s just a great group of knitters over there!

  16. I vote for Land of the Silver Birch. We had some very talented songwriters in the group and a brave singer with a beautiful voice. Click, click.

    1. I vote for O Camp Loopy (formerly known as Oh Suzanna) because it was well written as a collaboration and Crispy1ofOz did an awesome video!!!

  17. I’m in Home on the range. I’m proud of what we did but Sew Sew Sew your quilt makes me wish I’d joined the quilting camp too so my vote goes to them.

And Kudos to Chrispy for the video.

And Sheri and Loopy Elves – thanks for the idea. At least one will be an earworm today.

  18. I’m voting for the Happy Stitcher and not just because I’m in that group. I like that song the best!

  19. I had Oh Susanna in my head all of yesterday, w/Camp Loopy lyrics of course. We DO need them all on CD, I’m imagining driving around w/knitting songs blasting thru the speakers, assaulting the eardrums of others at red lights.

  20. Oh, I HAVE to vote for Row Row Row Your Boat, as I’m almost into the quicksand of the fabric group. I’m not in yet, but I think I’ll be there soon!

  21. Land of the Silver Birches…because we had to learn the tune before we could even begin to think about a re-write!
