It might just be the perfect fall day, today. The sun is shining, the wind is blowing a bit, and there is a nip in the air. Not too much. Just enough for you to know that it’s fall and not spring. I think I’ll call it “National I Love Fall Day” today. That means you should get out and do something to celebrate fall. Jump in some leaves. Enjoy a Pumpkin Spice Latte. Take a walk before dinner. (It’s ok if you don’t have fall weather where you live. Celebrate anyway.)
Or we could call it “National I Love Yarn Day”, as The Crafty Council has suggested. That means you get to buy some new yarn, start a new project, and leave work early to celebrate and knit. I suspect we might need to extend that throughout the entire weekend. How can you celebrate all of that in just one day?
As long as we’re making holidays, let’s also call today “National I Love Chocolate Day” so that I have an excuse to share a decadent dessert with you. (Not that I need an excuse to do that, I know.) I found this on Pinterest, and it comes from Kevin & Amanda’s blog. I do like the way she stacks two bars for each serving. Not sure I could eat that much since it’s so rich, but it looks impressive!
Oreo Brownie Chocolate Chip Dessert
1 brownie mix (for 9 x 13 size pan)
1 batch of chocolate chip cookie dough (or 1 tube of slice and bake)
1 package of chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreo’s)
Press the chocolate chip cookie dough into the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan. (Or, if using slice and bake – slice the cookies, layer them so that they cover the bottom of the pan, and then press them together to seal any openings.)
Put a single layer of chocolate sandwich cookies on top of the cookie dough batter.
Mix the brownie mix as directed and pour that over the top of the chocolate sandwich cookies.
Bake at 350 for 45-55 minutes.
Let cool slightly and then slice and enjoy with ice cream.
There you go. A triple dessert celebration for a triple national celebration day. Fall, yarn and chocolate. Yum.
What else should we be celebrating today? Since I made up two days (chocolate and fall), you get to make some up, too. National I Love …. what?
Sheri hopingyouhaveagreatweekend!
YUM! I could go for a “National I love chocolate day”! but I like all your ideas! Fall is my favorite time of the year!
Oh that Oreo Brownie Chocolate Chip Dessert looks sinful! What about National I Love Leave Work Early Day and National I Love Me Day!
Oh that looks GOOD. May have to make it. As to what I am celebrating. I am celebrating life.
I think I will stick with ‘I Love Yarn’ day. It is lower in fat 🙂
Now all I need to do is convince my husband that since today is National I Love Yarn day that I need to spend some money on some yarn.
That could definitely take care of my chocolate fix. Yum!!
I am celebrating your I love chocolate with these (just went into the oven)

I just cast on a new project for yarn day and I think we should add a call your kids day if they don’t live with you and if they do give them a hug and some of your time.
Have a terrific weekend!
Oh.my.goodness. I hope I forget about these quickly, because they look soooo delicious!!!!!!! Thanks for the recipe (although my waistline doesn’t thank you ;)).
I have avoided this treat because Oreos have been moved to the Hall of Trans Fat Shame at our house. Yes, the new Oreos have no trans fat, so they are healthier. Seriously? They are a cookie, people. The trans fat departure also took the right texture and flavor. If I’m gonna have a cookie, it should be a good cookie. Now they are just a good cookie gone bad. Grown ups should get to choose about their cookies, just like they get to choose how much yarn they need. I think both of those should be amongst our unalienable rights.
A day almost as unnecessary as I Love Yarn day: I Love my Pet Day. 😀
And yea, I think that cookie thing needs to be explored in all its fullness.
I think I went into sugar overload just reading the recipe. 🙂
It’s a beautiful fall day here in Iowa and I wish I could leave work early and have some of the dessert! WOW that looks yummy.
It just does not get better that loving that chocolate dessert, coffee, a good knitting magazine and loving all my Loopy yarn………….
National I love Friday Day
I agree with Kim’s “I Love Friday” day! And talking about desserts and fall – pumpkin cheesecake has to be one of my favorite fall desserts. I only seem to eat it in October – December and only a couple of pieces, but boy is that a wodnerful taste. One of the best parts of pumpkin cheesecake is that it’s not too sweet, so you can really taste the pumpkin. I like this as much as pumpkin pie (homemade, of course).
And I agree with the other folks, cookies should taste like GOOD cookies. If I’m going to have a treat, I want it to be a good treat. At my house, we don’t do low fat dessert or trans fat free cookies!
I like the National I Love Fall Day! Fall has always been my favorite season. Must write this one on my calendar!
And thanks, Robby, for the information on Oreos. They used to be a favorite cookie, but now I won’t be tempted to buy them any more! (Of course, if I make those chocolate desserts, I won’t have gained anything…)
Since every day is “I love yarn” day for me, I’m celebrating “I love Fridays in Fall” day. 🙂 In Co, you can’t beat days like today!
If you can’t buy yarn and you can’t get a good cookie and there is no chocolate and the weather sucks, you can always celebrate National Grouch Day. Really. If you have never tried it out, check out the website for Brownielocks. More than you ever wanted to know and fun to boot.
I love National I Wanna Nap Day, and everyone I know celebrates TGIF Day each week. I did a walk yesterday, but mine was in the other kind of weather seen around here for fall. It was misty, which was terrific, moving to driving downpours that created mini flash floods along all of our steep streets. By the time I got to my friend’s house I was drenched from head to toe and my bag was soaked through as well.
Totally unrelated, but you have to check out the new Jane Austen Knits special Interweave magazine. There isn’t a pattern in there that I wouldn’t adore making. I think the Scarlet Capelet is my current fave. To. Die. For. 🙂
No fair posting such a tempting dessert without warning. Now i have to run to the store to get ingredients and make two. One to take to the dinner on Tuesday and one for my girls!
Saturday is Sweetest Day!…got some chocolates from my sweetie…yum!!
Sheri,
This whole week has been a fall extravaganza weather wise here in No. Alabama! Beautifyl blue sky days with breezes, cool nights with a full moon each night, leaves turning the autumnal rainbow of colors! I am sitting on my porch knitting with my new Dream in Color October yarn, with coffee by my side, a nice apple to munch on, and the music of birds cherping in the trees. I think I will curl my toes and stretch out just a little bit more! ahhhhhh!
International I Love Oreos Day! I used to have to pay $14 AUD for a double packet of Oreos that were imported to specialty shops in Australia!!! And I would pay it, too!!! The Oreos were lovingly eaten in smallish, (well biggish) doses until they were gone (*sigh*) and then I would have to wait until the next 3 hour trip to Melbourne to go to the specialty store to buy some more. Now that they have opened Costco, I can get them for $2 a box with two sealed foil packs and life is sooooooo Good! Oh, yes, International In Love With Yarn Day is another good day to celebrate!
OMG! That’s sin on a plate! Sugar coma anyone?
Celebrate Life and living the glory of each new day. Fall is the perfect season to see the wonders of God. The crisp air, the smell of a fireplace burning in the evening, the beauty and wonder of foliage and lets not forget football games. I think of the football games when I was a girl when we all wore our pleated plad skirts with matching pandora sweaters and wool socks with penny loafers(Old Maine Trotters) walking to the Field through the crunch of the falling leaves. It was a wonderful time, we still said the Pledge of Allegiance, and prayed in school. Families ate dinner together and talked about their day. That is what Celebration of Life is about for all of you too young to remember. Thank you for Sheri for reminding me to Celebrate.
I made the dessert (which we have dubbed OMFG) in celebration of my friend’s birthday. Thanks for the fabulous (and crazy easy) recipe! The funniest question of the night was, “What stoner genius came up with this??”
