Ok – so you all made me laugh with your comments on Monday’s blog. Thanks for proving that you know how to comment on a Monday blog. 🙂 I just wasn’t sure. (And not that I’m complaining. I do appreciate the fact that you read the blog and then click over and SHOP on Mondays!) Susan from Colorado has won a skein of Kauni and I’ve emailed her to see which color she’d like.
Today, however, we have more important things to discuss. Like the Fourth Quarter Challenge! I thought long and hard about what to do for this quarter. I know that so many of you just finished up with Camp Loopy, where we were pretty specific about what you should knit. (That was fun!) So with this challenge, it’s all about the yarn. You can knit anything you’d like, as long as it uses at least one full skein of Madelinetosh, in any of the Tosh yarn bases that we carry at The Loopy Ewe (Sock, Merino Light, Vintage, Sport, DK and Pashmina). You can knit up more than one skein in your project, but not any less than a full skein. Think sweaters, gloves, mittens, vests, shawls, socks, capelets, scarves, cowls and hats. This might be a great time to work on a holiday gift.
The rest of the specifics:
– Your project must be completed and photos uploaded to the Fourth Quarter Challenge Photo Gallery at The Loopy Ewe by Wednesday, January 4th.
– If you need to buy yarn for your project, you can get it at 20% off between today and next Wednesday, October 5th. (You must specify in your order notes, which yarn you are using for your project. We will then run the discount on our end, before shipping it out. Discount is limited to one project’s worth of yarn, ordered in one order. Make sure you count your yardage carefully and order enough. Remember, only Madelinetosh yarn is eligible for this challenge.)
– If you’re in the U.S. and going for free shipping (orders above $75), be careful that the discount won’t take you below the $75 or the system will add the regular $5.95 shipping back in to your order.
– All entries finished on time will be eligible for prizes (both randomly drawn and voted on).
– If you bought your project yarn between 9/28 and 10/5 (and if you complete your project and upload the photo by the deadline), we’ll double the FSB points for the yarn you used. Quite a few of you earned some extra $25 bonuses this summer by getting your FSB points doubled for the yarn you used for Camp Loopy!
– We do not have any more Madelinetosh yarn arriving before 10/5, but we do have a lot of Sock, Merino Light, Pashmina and Sport currently in stock for you. Less of the DK and Vintage.
– If you want to use yarn in your stash, just make sure that it’s one of the Madelinetosh bases listed above. You’ll still be eligible for the prizes at the end, but not the double FSB credits.
Now might be a great time to do a bigger project, due to the discount, the 3 month knitting time frame, and the opportunity to earn double FSB points on it if you finish in time.
Need some ideas? Â Check out all three photo galleries from Camp Loopy. (One, Two, Three.) I can’t think of anything more motivating than your own photos from Camp this summer. You all did some awesome projects, and in one month’s time, no less! Three months will be a piece of cake.
So …. who’s in and what’re you going to make?

Sheri – you have my sympathies. Our mail doesn’t come until 5 pm and sometimes later. It’s hard waiting for my Loopy order that late. Off to look at some Madelinetosh yarn!
I’m in. This will be my first Challenge at Loopy. I am planning on doing the Triinu Shawl by Nancy Bush and a matching pair of gloves for myself. Bought 2 skeins of Mare in the Tosh Light. Hopefully I will get the gloves made. I have never knit gloves before and will have to find a pattern that is easy. Any suggestions out there?
I’m in. I decided I wanted to make something fun – there’s already multiple scarves inthe works, I recently did a couple shawls, and I’ve got a sweater I’m working on now. So I’ll be making Fiona’s top http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fionas-top for the nearly 2 yr old daughter of a friend. It’s just adorable – so the yarn is ordered for the main part of it and I just have to look through my loopy stash for an accent color to go with it.
The Goddess of knitting is smiling on me. I am in a remote town in Queensland Australia waiting for my Madelinetosh ML to arrive. I am planning a Catkin, in cream and soft green. Mail is slow out here, and man, it is hot. But I am still checking everyday at the post office for my squishy parcel.
I really need to knit down my stash, as I’m beginning to run out of space for it, but I do have a couple of skeins of MT Sock in Tart and Cherry that I plan on using to knit up the Terpsichore shawl with. 🙂
I just bought Ginger Madeline Tosh and a pattern named Maureen! Maybe I will really knit Maureen’s socks! I will swatch it to see if I can learn the serious cables and if my dpn knitting is a fluke.
Man, I wish I had been working for a few months by this point so I could participate in this challenge. But it looks like it’s going to be out of my realm of possibility. I really would love to knit up a little sweater in Madelinetosh too.
I am excited about the Fourth Quarter Challenge. I have a Stephen West shawl pattern in mind. It uses three skeins of Madeline Tosh for a total of 790 yds but you do not use a full skein of any color. Does this pattern meet the requirements of the challenge?
I designed a collar for over my plain shirts to dress them up a bit. It has a double-strand cabled neckband open at the front, with the body of it extending a little over my shoulders. The body is also cabled, with raglan increases, and buttons closed in the front. Finished the band, working down the body. Bought two skeins, looks like both will be fully used up.
Loving working with this yarn. It is my first Tosh experience :O)
I’m a little late to the party and I just bought two skeins of MT Sport in Iris. My plan was to make a shawl. I should have the yarn by the end of November, so now I have to come up with a beautiful shawl pattern that will be my Christmas gift to me. YAY, my first Loopy Ewe challenge, I’m so excited!!!
I bought 4 skeins of Pashmina for a Delancey cardigan. The main color (grasshopper) didn’t contrast with the contrast color (Tern) and I switched the main color to Cobolt, which I also bought from the Loopy Ewe. Can I still get my extra FSB credits?
Please let me know!
I completed the challenge…but how do I send you my photo? Do I just send it to your e-mail addy? I looked at the photo gallery and I don’t see anything about uploading a picture. Please let me know!
Whew, made it into the photo album in time. Granted it is pending; but I did get the pic into Loopy on time. Finished mine at 1:00 a.m. on 01/04. Ran out of yarn, Loopy was out of it, finally found some and it was delivered on the 3rd, up all nighter.
Anyway, happy to have been able to join in and have fun designing it as I went along.
Thank you Sherri & elves, both MO & CO
