Sunshine and Sneak Ups!

weddingpbWe had a great time at the wedding in Ohio this past weekend. The groom was one of Web Guy’s college roommates and the bride was his long-time girlfriend. (Nathan’s long-time girlfriend. Not Web Guy’s long-time girlfriend! ย That didn’t come out right…) It’s so fun when you know both the bride and the groom and can celebrate the long road that has brought them to this place. Here’s a photo of the three roomies (handsome fellows) and the beautiful bride. Web Guy is the tall one on the right. ๐Ÿ™‚ One of the sad things about your kids graduating from college is that you don’t get to see their college friends nearly as often. I miss them (and their nice parents – Hi Jari!).

DSC03163I worked on Sock Number One of my “if it’s going to be gloomy then the least I can do is WEAR sunshine” socks. This is out of Lorna’s Laces Sport in Butterscotch (I love the golden color), and I used the Monica Knit’s Swirl Socks pattern. Changes to the pattern: I knit them toe-up with a short-row heel and used 60 stitches instead of 70. I’ve already started the second sock. I think Swirling Sunshine Socks (say that three times) will be perfect for gloomy days, inside and out. I know that many of you said you were also going to knit some sunshine socks, so you’ll have to let us know what yarn and pattern you have chosen. It’s good to have mood-enhancing socks, don’t you think?

We did a big Sneak Up for you this afternoon. Actually, some of you may have noticed that I have started referring to them as “Monday Updates” instead. A few people get all wigged out over the idea of ย “sneaking up” and think that it’s a marketing scheme. (That always cracks me up. It was simply a survival scheme. As in “let’s just put things up quietly so that the website doesn’t crash from too many people on at once” strategy. We said, “We can’t announce the exact time any more, so we’ll just sneak it up for you and then you can stumble upon it when you check the site.” This started being referred to as a “Sneak Up”.) We went to a much larger server over a year ago and so far it has handled even Wollmeise updates without completely crashing. Most of you know that we put a big batch of new things up most Mondays, so I’m now going with “Monday Update” and hoping that it’s a term that everyone can handle. ๐Ÿ™‚

krumlov concertoIn tonight’s Monday Update: 6 more colors of Fleece Artist’s specially priced Nyoni, Dream in Color Starry (some of the colors have arrived back in stock. We’ll add the rest as they trickle in via UPS). Also, Dream in Color Baby, Perchance to Knit 24/7 Sock, Lorna’s Laces Worsted (more colors arriving as they get dyed up. This is such beautiful yarn!). We also added Black Bunny Fibers Classic, a re-stock of Woolpets (along with two new kits – Chickadees and Sock Monkey), Offhand Designs (in 2 new styles – Suzannah and Daisy, which is reversible so that you can have all of those pockets on the inside or the outside of the bag), Della Q needle cases (I love having my needles all organized in Della’s organizers), more Marie Mayhew patterns, and a re-stock of Addi Clicks in the new smaller soft-touch pack which makes it easier for traveling. Whew. I think that’s it. Come on over and check it out.

  1. It definitely has been a beautiful sunny day, and feels great! I have been mulching leaves and taking in my vitamin D. Love the new socks-it does make me feel brighter-gonna get started on a bright pair for myself. Love the LL worsted!

  2. Monica’s “Swirls” pattern has got to be one of the all-time great sock patterns! It’s beautiful, and yet it’s very easy and satisfying to knit. I love your sunshine sock!

  3. I miss the “Sneak Up” ๐Ÿ™ I thought it was funny ๐Ÿ™‚ I also really love the socks and the pattern. I might have to use the pattern after I complete my first pair of socks.

  4. OMG, I love those new bags!! But as for changing the name from Sneak Up to Monday Update, I must object. I mean, we all KNOW it’s a Monday update. But seriously. It’s so much easier for BFF Liz or me (whoever sees it first) to phone the other’s office and say “Snuck!” than for one to call the other and say, “The Monday Update has occurred.” Don’t you think? ๐Ÿ˜‰

  5. The wedding picture looks beautiful. Hopefully you didn’t encounter too much rain while in Ohio. It rained all night Friday and some on Saturday morning and the rest of the day was fine – meaning no rain. And then Sunday no rain at all. That new bag you have pictured looks so pretty!

  6. I don’t understand the Monday sneak ups or updates (whatever you call them). I never see anything. I have been checking Loopy Ewe every hour since I first noticed that NUMMA NUMMA and SANGUINE GRYPHON will be arriving soon! That started last Friday, I think. Well, did I miss it? Or they still haven’t come in? What does the Monday update really mean? And how come I never see it? Thanks for an answer here.

  7. Would be nice if “mood-enhancing” socks could be knit up then sprinkle them with some sunshine mood fairy dust so I could give them to my boss on his cloudy-crabby days ๐Ÿ™‚ The butterscotch color looks so pretty! My moods are always affected by colors anyway – always have been like that. AND I may have to try to knit socks from the LL Sport – would get them done quicker ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. Sheri – I couldn’t resist – your sunshine socks are too cute! Your pair will have twins here in Pennsylvania. Stepping out of my color comfort zone. But I do have a top that is that color that I wear to work. Hope you don’t mind – you inspired me ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Sunshine socks, love, love, who needs Vitamin D!!!! Love the sneak-up. it has a alluring, incandescent flavor that begs you to drop everything and go see whats new…..

  10. I’m so glad to hear that some other guy didn’t marry Web Guy’s girlfriend. And that a couple of weeks ago, you had a hard time leaving that puppy behind, not WH. That had me laughing out loud. Language can be so strange sometimes!

I love the bright colour of your new sock. Now that it’s so dark in the evenings, we need things like that.

  11. I have the Swirl Socks in progress for my DIL in Creatively Dyed “Hot Hot Hot” (all from TLE of course). I love the pattern–1 sock is done and the other is started. I’m working it top down by the pattern. I’m not sure if I could reverse it to do toe up.
Love your color and love the wedding pic. It is hard to see them grow up.

  12. I lost my Leia dog the end of last week. I’ve decided to make Leia socks–from the PawPrints and Whiskers pattern, in Lime & Violet Intentions Connection. I think those will be a great way to think of her, and snuggly for my feet besides!

  13. Today looked for sure like it would be a rainy one, but now the sun is peeking out and I feel so much better!

I like your Sunshine socks! I still have to finish the pair I started in the green yarn (CTH?).

Oh, and don’t forget about the penguin tin! It’s almost time!

  14. AWWWW – I thought the Sneak up was uniquely Loopy Eweish – too bad you felt compelled to change your signature verbage to suit a few complainers.

Yep I had an easy bake oven and loved it – I actually think I still have that little pizza pan that came with it.

LL Butterscotch – YUMMMM – I have 4 skeins of Fisherman in that color just waiting for the perfect gansey pattern to be found.

Here’s to many sunny days in November for the ewes. Mel

  15. I’m sure I had a pair of slouchy socks that shade of yellow in the 80s. I used to wear them with blue shoes. It was the 80s, what can I say.

As for marketing schemes…I like the idea of “sneak-ups”. I guess there’s no accounting for taste…kind of like yellow socks and blue shoes, I guess.

  16. I like the term sneak up, but I try not to check out the site on Mondays even knowing it is happening. Avoiding the temptation until the things I’d want to knit wiht most are gone!

Of course, I do end up spending a lot of time singing the Out of Stock blues.
