We have a super easy contest for you this month. See this pretty mannequin? We need a name for her. She’ll be modeling hats, scarves, and cowls here at Loopy Central, but so far a name has eluded us. She looks rather 40’s-ish, doesn’t she? Or maybe not. So the contest for the month – leave a blog comment with your name suggestion OR tell us your grandparents first names in the comments section. We might find a good name from one of your grandparents, too. (And that way, we’ll have a good man-name in case we add a guy mannequin at some point.) We’ll choose the name that we think fits her best! If you suggested it, we’ll be sending you some Wollmeise. (If more than one person suggests the same name, we’ll draw for it.) We’ll also do a random draw from all of the comments, for another winner of Wollmeise, just because we want to. (By the way, I missed Blog De-Lurk day on Monday, so today would be a good day to do your annual de-lurk here on the blog – and get into the contest at the same time!)
Update on things here: We all need a bit of a Wollmeise Breather. 🙂 The two Customs-stuck boxes have come in, but the yarn needs to be photoed and put up and I’m heading out to CA on Friday. So – no Wollmeise for awhile. We haven’t decided about next week yet. And speaking of leaving, I’ll be back to the blog on Monday with another Loopy Limelight. (Thanks for all of your fun emails and comments about the Limelights. It is fun for me to share more about these wonderful dyers and knitters with you, and I’m glad you like it, too.) Monday: there’s no mail here in the U.S., so we’ll all off that day. (Me? I’ll be recovering from a very quick weekend in CA. The Elves? Spending time with their kids, who will also be off that day.) A Lola or a Gwen to me….maybe even a Roxie! I like that name, it kind of evokes a woman with a bit of gumption!
And my Nana’s name is Lola. =D So that works!
Oh and my daughter’s name is Gwen….I thought it was such a classy name you don’t hear too often these days. My Nana told me in the 1930s-40s Gwen became very popular.

One of my grandmothers was Sarah. The other was born Jenny, but changed her name to Jean, because it was more glamorous. However, the large eyes on the model do make me think Bette (Davis).
I don’t know if this name has been offered as there are over 700 comments by the time Im adding my suggestion: GUADELOOPY!!

While Greta was my first thought and Clara for Clara Bow was a second i think i would submit Anais for Anais Nin, the author due to her French birth, and if you have a male model ever, Henry, for her long time lover, Henry Miller the playwright…as a pair: hot hot hot. : )

my grandmothers were Lena and Agnes. Lena might work, but never Agnes. Agnes is too prim and proper. a great-grandmother was named josephine, which sounds stately and stylish as long as it isn’t shortened. my suggestions: Letitia maybe, or Annie Rose (another great-grandmother), or Elsa.
My grandparents names were Marilu & Gilbert , Annie & David Byrd; but my parents (who are now age of most folks grandparents) are Gil & Alice. The first grandmother was named Mara Lou then changed it to Marilu.

On the subject of grandmothers’ names, I’ve got nothing too extraordinary. Mine were Doris and Rose (Rose would have been our child’s name if we had a girl, but we had a boy).
However, my great-grandmother was called Yoghaper. It actually sounds nicer than it looks, but would never sound anything but strange to English speaking ears, I fear.
My Dad’s mother was named Rosalind, and she actually looked somewhat like your mannequin in her younger days. Let me tell you about her.
She was the younger daughter of a man who desperately wanted a son he never had. So, he decided that she would be his son, and he called her “Steve” and raised her as he would have raised a boy. He was a businessman, and in her youth she traveled the length and breadth of the US with him.
She obtained a degree in journalism from Columbia University in the early 1900’s. Women did not do that at the time. She met my grandfather while working as a news reporter for the New York Herald. They were married in December, he died in the spring in a flu epidemic, and she had my father in November. For the rest of her life, she could never talk about him.
She continued to work while raising my father. At one point, she was the national secretary of the WCTU. Which is funny, because she did like to drink. However, she took whatever jobs she could find that made it possible to raise my father.
She taught me to knit. She was the one who made many pairs of hand knit socks for my Dad. I took that over after she died, and I knit him many pairs before he died.
She was a woman who was well ahead of her time. I proudly tell people that I come from a long line of uppity broads, and I can hear her laugh every time I say that.

I think that a great name would be Lily La Loopy. The name Lily means beauty and purtiy which reminds me of the beautiful things that can be knit.
My maternal grandmother’s name Eeva, pronounced like Ava. A lovely simple Finnish name but I think the foreign spelling adds something-something. My grandfather was Charles.
I think the mannequin looks like Lilly at The Loopy Ewe. That’s the first name that came to mind, and I’m stickin’ with it!

I’m suggesting Margo. It’s my mother’s name, and it’s also the name of the main character in one of my favorite movies, All About Eve, the amazing Margo Channing. Plus, it was used in The Shadow. It’s very 1940s.

I’m suggesting my grandparents names because I love them AND their names! Elzie and Jane You may think Jane to be too common a name for such a beautiful lady but like my grandma, when you have a wonderfully charismatic face, why laden it down with a wild and exotic name? That face already says “hey look at me!”

My grandfathers names were Fred and Tony. Tony came straight through Ellis Island from Italy and couldn’t speak a word of english. His last name was Brundemonte (with the “r” rolled of course). Since he couldn’t write either, they just made his last name “Breadmont”.
I think having mannequins named Tony and Elsie Brundemonte would be just fabulous.
Fred and Glenny, my other grandparents names, would just be a hoot!
