What Bugs You? (and a Sneak Peak!)

I decided that it’s time for an “It Bugs Me” post again. It has been awhile. And what made me think of it? Last night as I was sitting there shredding envelope after envelope of credit card offers, it came to me. “This bugs me.” When you have a family of four, two family-owned businesses, and two college-aged kids, the credit card offers that arrive every day are annoying. What a complete waste of time and money. (Particularly annoying are the ones that contain a piece of bubble wrap to make it feel more substantial like something fun is in there, the ones that contain a fake ticket to “the destination of your choice”, and the ones that have a piece of heavy cardboard in there. I did find a dollar bill in one of them. That was unique.) Credit card offers. They bug me. (And that photo was as close as I could find to a “bug” around here, which is probably a very good thing.)

It also bugs me that I’m having so much fun knitting scarves and there are only so many you can wear. And it really does need to be pretty cool to wear them. You can wear socks on most days (except the very hottest) but you can only wear merino scarves when it’s cool. I finished the Noro Silk Garden Worsted scarf (colorway 282) in a modified Chevron-type pattern and I really like how it turned out. (Knitting with Noro is always an adventure because of the way the colors play out.) I mixed a few different patterns together and came up with my own version: cast on 36 stitches, knit a row, and then start in on this pattern and work on it as long as you want it, ending with a knit row. (I used 2 1/2 skeins for this):
Row 1: K2tog (x 3), K f&b (x 6), K2tog (x 6), K f&b (x 6), K2tog (x 3)
Row 2: Purl Row 3: Knit Row 4: Purl
K2tog = knit two stitches together as one. K f&B = Knit into the front of the stitch and then knit into the back of the same stitch, then pop the stitch off of the left needle.

And speaking of projects completed, here is the Creatively Dyed Seacell Roving that I spun up. This was a colorway from her first roving order here called Forest Path. (We put up more fun new roving colors from Dianne this week.) The roving didn’t bug me – it spun up like a dream. What bugs me is that I feel like I’m doing a good job while I’m spinning it, getting nice even yarn most all of the time. However, when I ply it and look at the finished results, it doesn’t look anywhere near even. I guess I just need to keep practicing. (Actually, given the quantity of very cool roving here, that is not going to be a hardship.)

Another thing that really bugs me is that this is Cassie’s last week at The Loopy Ewe. Cassie is in college and we hired her for the summer (so that the regular Elves could be a little more flexible with their summer schedules.) Cassie is getting married in a week and so her time here is about over. She has been a huge help and we’re going to miss her. We had a Going Away/Good Luck with the Wedding party for her here today, which was fun! (We’re sending her off with one of those gorgeous Atenti bags – the one that she has had her eye on all summer long.) But it bugs me that we’re losing her, albeit to a good cause! (Knitting Daughter has already laid claim to Cassie’s job next summer.)

Let’s end this post on a positive note! Something that makes me happy – our Second Anniversary “Loopified” Sock Kit! These will go up sometime soon (but not today – we’re not ready yet) and we’re happy to show you the photo of what’s in there! We had Jana at Hand Maiden dye up a special colorway on her Casbah yarn base that we call “Loopified” – the red and black are very “Loopy” colors, and of course the pewter color is in there because of Loopy Kisses, which is also part of being fully “Loopified”. We love how it turned out! Then Debbie O’Neill took the sample skein that Jana had sent and developed a cool pattern out of if, which she calls Halema ‘uma ‘u Socks (which is the name of a volcano, since the colorway reminded her of glowing embers.) To round out the kit, we have a Loopy Ewe Coffee Mug (I love the size and shape of this one), a Loopy Ewe enamel pin (for all of you who keep asking us for these), and two Loopified tattoos (for those of us who are too chicken to get the real thing like Lynda did. And like the others of you who have already emailed for permission to get a real Loopy tattoo, are planning to.) A couple of things to note about the kit – we are limiting it to one per person for now. Also, this has to ship as its own order, since we had to pack it in a certain size cube in order to fully protect the mug. (International orders – we will pack the mugs the VERY best that we can in the international padded envelopes, but we just can’t guarantee them because …. well, we’ve seen some of the things that happen to orders going that far afield. Please order at your own risk.) šŸ™‚

So, those are the things that bug me (and make me happy) today. What bugs you lately?

  1. Hmmmmmmmm, Fridays post should be fun!! When will the Aniversary Kit become available? I know I Know thats a silly question HEHEHE, are the Loopies gonna get an e-mail when they become available like a regular sneak up? That oughta be a more easily answered question šŸ™‚
What Bugs me… Not mucch right now, will have to think on it for while šŸ™‚

  2. It bugs me too that my handspun isn’t nice and even. But if it was nice and even, people couldn’t tell it was handpun right??? (At least I can knit something from mine now.)

It bugs me that I can’t seem to get a knitting group started in my hometown.

It bugs me that we don’t have a LYS in my hometown.

What makes me happy is my “little dog” Debit and my ability to knit.

I can’t wait to see what’s up Friday

  3. You can go to here to opt out of those pesky credit card offers: https://www.optoutprescreen.com/?rf=t

Or, if you want to have a little fun – shred them and stuff them back into the prepaid return envelopes and mail them back to the credit card companies! Let them pay the return postage for their junk mail! šŸ™‚

What bugs me? That it’s not payday yet and I can’t place an order at TLE!

  4. I won’t go into what is bugging me. Looking forward to Friday’s post, and hopefullt getting an anniversary kit.

  5. It bugs me that I don’t have my loopified kit now?

Umm it bugs me that the black hole of un-ending laundry- is NOWHERE near as fun as the black hole of unending knitting?

Oh and it bugs me that I can’t be Cassies replacement.. ..and that maybe I am jealous of her Atenti.

  6. What bugs me is I don’t have the time to F5 so I can get online at the right time to get a Loopified Sock Anniversary Kit. Hopefully it will come up when I am in the house checking TLE. But I will not complain since I am in the Sock Club and did get to go to the Spring Fling. So i guess I should take my “what bugs me” back.

    Well, I feel better!

  7. I think your handspun looks beautiful. I only hope the CD roving I just ordered will turn out half as good!

  8. What bugs me is that I let too many things bug me unnecessicarily. So I’m trying much harder just to let things go and not be hard on myself for “silly” things.

What makes me happy is being able to enjoy the simple things in life. Including family and good friends.

Thank you for sharing your spinning – it looks great to me! Also, a thank you for the sneak peak at the 2nd Anniversary kit. I do hope to be lucky enough to purchase one! : )

  9. Must have kit.

Bugs me that my sock mojo seems gone. Love that I am knitting a ruffled shawl out of Noro Kureyon Sock. Have enough Silk Garden Sock to do a second. Makes me even happier this was a free pattern.

Bugs me that things like “insurance” and “dental bills” are getting in the way of yarn purchases. I love that it is happening now and not nearer to the holidays!!

Bugs me that the dogs are out in the yard yapping at neighbor and getting filthy in the mud. I love the dogs šŸ™‚ and will go let them in and stick the smallest one in the sink to de-mudify.

PS Sheri, look at the picture of this hand spun yarn and compare to the first picture of handspun you posted. You’ve made a ton of progress!!!

  10. What bugs me…… not a lot. I have a shreader next to my dining room table and as I open mail I shread.
It does bug me that I can’t be thin like other people……

That we can;t pre order the 2nd Anniversary kit. LOL

    I’ll be f5ing thursday on.

    Thank you

  11. Mosquitoes that get in the house bug me. I’ve been worrying a bite on my leg for the last hour, and never saw the critter.

I’m happy about little boy giggles and the silly father that starts them. *grin*

I have a friend who starts every single day with a Live Journal post about what little thing makes her smile that day, and encourages us to add our own to the comments. I try to have one every day, and this was today’s.

  12. Oh boy the anniversary kit looks wonderful…keeping my fingers crossed…I will miss Fridays fun and games though, I think as we leave early afternoon for a full weekend charity event. I won’t be back until late Sunday. I am even more excited we are getting a second pup, this one Aussie shep/lab rescued from a kill shelter in another state. Saw him today and so beautiful. New pup, fun and games, finally got to speak with GoatLady, anniversary kit and philanthropy wow…I may have to avoide all caffeine for the next week.
Right now nothing is bugging me at all
The noroscarf is glorious, I am sure I have some in my stash. hmmmmm………

  13. The kit looks wonderful! I’m with you on the credit card offers. Today what’s bugging me is that I can’t stay away from the vending machine even though I knowI won’t feel good afterwards. I guess if that’s it, I can’t complain.

  14. I used to have those scissors/holder. Then I tried to cut wire with the scissors and ruined them, and couldn’t find any other scissors to fit in the cute little caddy. That bugs me.

  15. It bugs me that things don’t always work out the way you really want them to, but I suppose I will grow up and get over it and that things will work out for the best. šŸ™‚
After all, I have a loopified kit to look forward to!
    Happy Anniversary!

  16. , if you want to have a little fun – shred them and stuff them back into the prepaid return envelopes and mail them back to the credit card companies!

I knew someone who would use the prepaid envelopes to send all sorts of things back to them from pornography to bricks.

Anyway, things that are bugging me right now are people who think it’s OK to treat someone like crap because they are different.

And what makes me happy right now is makeup. I’m addicted.

  17. It’s an awesome kit! I’m so excited that I I’ll have a blue and red cup (if I’m luck enough to get a kit of course!). Love the tattoos, so fun, I’m gonna be just like Lynda!

my hair was bugging me, so I cut it off last night, woo!

Ohio’s rainy summer bugs me. I keep having to rescue drying yarn, gr.

My house bugs me, it’s too small, I’m running out of room for yarn!

  18. pre – happy anniversary to you!
What bugs me? Health insurance stuff, this needs to be approved, this is not approved, you need to work REALLY hard to change our minds. THAT bugs me.
    šŸ™‚

  19. *Gasp* Must. Have. Kit. Mustmustmust. You’ve topped yourself again! Not that I’m surprised. You know, I’ve been thinking of getting a small tattoo – is there a permission slip for getting a Loopy? šŸ˜‰ I’d have to get something small, as my mother could never be allowed to see it. Ha – I’m thir-mumblemumble, but there are still things I’d never tell my mother! I know how you feel about the credit cards. After C-mas, I got a small shredder that I can put entire unopened envelopes in – it chews them up and doesn’t even hesitate! I told hubby that he could call it one of my presents, ’cause I just love it! Oh, and you’ve made me want to pull my chevron scarf back out to work on, even though it’s almost 100 here… Better crank up the ac! Happy, Happy Anniversary!!!

  20. What bugs me is that I got all fired up to get some exercise, get some cardiovascular health and lose weight and now I have plantar fasciitis and have to find a new form of exercise other than walking for the foreseeable future – what am I going to do with that treadmill in my living room? Seems silly now that I’ve put it in words, but I’m leaving it. I’m going to abstain from the kit (killing me, let me tell you) as I’m trying to be good so I can get a bigger house – more room for yarn …see how long it lasts šŸ™‚

  21. It bugs me that my stash is growing & there’s many patterns I want to knit, but not enough time in the day/week/month/year to do them all. I’m trying though!

I hope there’s enough Loopy kits to go around w/1 per person. Will they be located in the kits section? the Loopy Accessories? Where will I have to look to know when they’ve been posted? Or is that part of the challenge?

Thank you for your simple scarf pattern write-up. I’ve been looking for something simple.

  22. Ooo, ooo…Happy 2nd Anniversary to (Loopy) Ewe!!

What bugs me? Not much right now…because I am taking a BREAK (starting August 1st)! I have decided to take a 6-month sabbatical from my ER work, and instead use my time to play music, clean out my basement, go visit my daughter in NY, knit, knit , knit, read, read, read, exercise, maybe get a wheel and start learning to spin, and relax! It will be tight without my salary (and that may necessitate an enforced yarn-purchasing diet), but I think trading the stress for a more relaxed lifestile for a while will be good.

I’ll be F5’ing for the Anniversary kit! I plan to sleep in on Friday…but maybe I’ll stop by TLE for a visit.

  23. What bugs me?

Uhm, certain “pushers” showing off their beautifully ply’d roving from Creatively Dyed and then not having shipping available to Alaska on their wheels. But I want it! Oh, I want it BAD. Show me more, more, more…

  24. Nothing is really bugging me at the moment. But i do agree about those credit card offers. That just bugs me to no end. Love the kit and hope I will be able to get one. Thanks for pic. Hugs

  25. The only thing bugging me right now is not knowing what state I’ll be living in next month or what country by Christmastime. I think it’s starting to get to me… I find the rate of decay of my mood to be somewhat alarming too. If it doesn’t flatten out I’ll be gibbering in a corner before dinner. I think I’ll go play with yarn and see if that will help any.

I want a 2nd Anniversary kit so badly that I will probably cry if I miss it. (Actually, I probably won’t – that’s probably the stress talking, so don’t worry about sending the guys in the white coats, Sheri.) I love that mug! It’s beyooootiful!

  26. What bugs me… earwigs. We have tons of them this year. I am finding them everywhere and it’s grossing me out! CC offers. Yup, me too. And I’ll round it out with children who don’t stay in their room during “quiet time”. šŸ˜‰

  27. Other than a sore throat and a headache not too much is bugging me.

I think your handspun looks gorgeous, I don’t spin … yet…. so I am not an expert, but to me it looks great. Want me to knit all the handspun up for you?? : ) that I know how to do.

  28. It bugs me when I get unsolicited mail with stickers with my name on them,
or tags, or notepads with my name on them. I can’t donate to everything, and I
feel funny keeping them, and feel funny throwing them away. I could gift them
to someone but, they have my name on them. It bugs me that I never got a skein
of Wollmeise. It’s bugging me that I can’t get my WIP’s done. I made a donation
to Zen String today for Angelina and that made me happy because I wanted to do
it. I made it to my LYS yesterday and that always makes me happy. Plus I am
    happy reading your blog.

  29. And your “bug” will come in handy when cutting up all those annoying card offers!
Can’t wait for one of those Loopified kits!

  30. Your handspun looks beautiful, Sheri. Great job!

I hated those credit card offers, too. I would get several of them a week. They stopped arriving, though, after I did the opt-out thing. YAY–because those things really bugged me!

I’m so hoping for a Loopified kit!

  31. Awesome kits!!! Can’t wait to order one. I love the Loopy Ewe!!!! And I think your handspun is beautiful too as is the scarf. Thanks for giving us your pattern.

  32. I love the anniversary kit! I hope I have more luck with that than I have with Wollmeise. šŸ™‚

What bugs me today is that I moved over 100 boxes today and none of them contained yarn! Only textbooks. Bah!

Your handspun is beautiful. Not anything I’ve ever had a hankering to do but I love to see what other people do. šŸ™‚

  33. The Loopified Anniversary kit is awesome! Hope to get one šŸ™‚ Those credit card offers bug me too. They don’t just put your name on the front page, it’s now printed on every page…name, address, etc. We shred too. I’ll be using some of those links above. Other than that…nothing else bugs me. A good thing—I’ve had a great 2 years shopping with The Loopy Ewe!

  34. lol, just this morning I was thinking that I needed to get someone to dye me some black, red, & silvery grey yarn so I could knit some socks to go with a fave pair of pin striped work trousers, et voila! You deliver, with Casbah to boot. I will keep my fingers crossed that the mug will survive the journey intact!

  35. Here’s a suggestion for you. Since you love to knit scarves (and we love to wear scarves), why don’t you have a contest and give away a scarf as a prize??

Those credit card offers are the worst. We get some (seems like) every day. Our shredder gets quite a workout.

  36. It bugs me that going from fiancee visa to green card costs over a thousand dollars which could be EASILY spent on such as yarn!

Also, this picot cast-on is driving me bats.

  37. I second the use of optoutprescreen.com. It really helps.

What’s bugging me is the guy who changed my oil yesterday. I think he was a little condescending to me because of my gender, and it’s made me want to learn how to change my oil myself.

  38. Happy early Anniversary, can’t wait for Friday.

What bugs me the most are some people at work that expect me to drop everything just for them. But I just learn to accept this, and go on with my day.

  39. bugs me:
    – clients expect that because a computer is involved it will only take me 5-10 minutes to do X,Y, or Z
    – tourists who stand in the bike path on the brooklyn bridge and get upset when asked to move.
    – cyclists who think that they can barrel across the brooklyn bridge at 2pm on a nice sunny not humid sunday without tourists in their way
    – anyone who walks in more than a 2-person row in the sidewalks and walks slowly especially in mid-town at lunch time
    – that i can’t knit and type at the same time yet. yet. i’m training my toes.

    makes me happy:
    – i am taking a week away from the office next week.
    – i had a chance to spin for 15 minutes today (my target is 10min/day)
    – i sent off a RAoK package today.

  40. The humidity and inconsiderate neighbours are at the top of my list right now! BTW, I love your handspun – it’s as cool and fresh looking as wool can possibly be in the middle of the summer!

  41. What bugs me?

Bugs. Little ants that think it’s perfectly okey-dokey to come into MY clean kitchen and find out where some hidden crumbs or sticky stuff is. It’s gone! Go away!

Not being able to keep up with ravelry – I’m swamped!

Not posting to my blog regularly. Pictures might help. So might a camera!

    And what doesn’t bug me?

    YARN!!!!

  42. What bugs me–I’ve been religiously going to the gym and the scale won’t move!
Tonight I said “the….. with it and I just stopped at Dairy Queen!!! I am thinking positive thoughts that I WILL be one of the lucky ones to get a beautiful anniversary package!! It will be the perfect thing to knit on my “staycation!”

  43. To reduce the number of credit card offers, opt out of them with http://www.optoutprescreen.com. It’s legit: http://www.fraudguides.com/consumer_optoutprescreen.asp

Companies you already have a relationship with can still send you offers, but since I signed up, the number of credit card offers I get in the mail has gone way down. That, and signing up for catalogchoice.org.

Happy second anniversary! I kinda just want the pin. The mug is cute too, but no room for mugs in my house. And, no room for yarn either, or else the Casbah is tempting…

  44. Did you know Loopy Ewe and I have the same birthday? That certainly DOESN’T bug me! šŸ™‚ It kind of bugs me when Peaches the cat tries to nap on my arm while I type (like right this instant) but she’s so cute it can’t bug me for long.
