Well Holy Cow

Well Holy Cow – I had no clue that we’d end up with over 1000 comments on our Happy Anniversary blog last week! You have no idea how fun it was to go through and read all of your wonderful comments and best wishes. I wish I could email each and every one of you to tell you how much we appreciate you. Due to the large number of entries, I decided to give away 10 drawings instead of 6. Remember, one prize goes to the person who guessed closest to the number of skeins we had here on August 1st. The other 9 have been randomly drawn. It was funny to see the wide variance in numbers guessed! We do send out a lot of skeins each week, but we also have a lot of skeins arriving each week as well. The total in-house at any given time goes up and down, but the number on August 1st (according to our website admin section – so no, I didn’t have to hand count each one) was 7977. Would you believe that someone actually guessed within 4 skeins? Greta from Oklahoma guessed 7981 and wins the big prize! (Next year I ought to have you guess total number of items we have in stock – yarn plus accessories plus patterns. Or maybe not. I don’t think I even want to know that number, as it might overwhelm even me.) The other nine prizes go to: Michele in Maine, Megan V, Shelby B, Jenifer C, Mo B, Sarah L, Lisa, Amy H, Kim and Margaret R. (Email me your addresses – sheri AT theloopyewe DOT com, just so I can make sure the prizes are going to the right place. I do have last names for Sarah, Amy and Margaret, so email me if you’re wondering if I mean YOU!) Thanks so much for participating in the contest, and more importantly thank you so much for your continued support and encouragement. This was Year One, and we do plan to be around for a long time to come. πŸ™‚

This week’s recipe is my favorite to make for “company”. It always gets rave reviews and it’s suprisingly easy to make. I hope you and your family enjoy it!

DSC00993.JPGChocolate Truffle Cake

Melt in pan and then cool:

8 oz. semi-sweet chocolate
1 cup sugar
1 cup unsalted butter

Add in:

1/2 cup brewed coffee
4 beaten eggs

Line a springform pan with foil and then butter the foil. Pour batter in and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes (or until crust forms.) Cool to room temperature and then refrigerate overnight.

Topping:

Whip 8 oz. whipping cream, 1/4 cup powdered sugar, and 1/4 tsp. vanilla until stiff peaks form. Pile whipped cream on top of cake and garnish with raspberries or strawberries. Serves 10. (Keep refrigerated. Can also freeze the baked cake base and just add the whipped cream and fruit when you’re ready to serve it.)

  1. Holy crap that’s a lot of yarn! Niiiiiiice πŸ˜€

No plans for the weekend here, maybe next weekend as it’s our 6th wedding Anniversary… but the husband has to work so we might celebrate early.

  2. I am going to have tons of fun this weekend. I am going to have a nice long ride in our new-to-us pickup/limo (it rides awfully well for a truck) to south Texas during which I will finish my incredibly beautiful Sea Wool socks (will send a photo of them on a tree when done!) and then start the Campanula pattern for the Campanula for the Cure KAL, which is also from Loopy Ewe yarn, the Pale Fire Dream in Color Smooshy stuff. It is so pretty, and honestly, I selected it before anyone famous did. I can’t wait for hours of truck-riding knitting.

My kids’ father will be staying at our house for his visitation weekend and dog-sit our dogs. How civilized is THAT? So, it’s off to see how my beau’s 84-year-old-dad did with his corn crop this year. Hoping for some barbecue on the way. Yee haw.

Congratulations to the winners of the contest!

  3. Wow! That is honestly way more yarn than I thought you would have! I can see why you have mentioned that the Loopy Room is not so much just a room anymore.

Congrats again on your anniversary! I am doing something fun this weekend–I am going to Green Lake, WI to ride around in a boat. πŸ™‚

    Jen

P.S. I just have to say, if I had that much yarn, I might make a bed o’ yarn and then nap in it. Best idea ever! πŸ™‚

  4. That really is a lot of yarn. I’m impressed that you’re able to stay around all that sock yarn and not feel woozy πŸ™‚ This weekend I’m playing the last two nights of Folklorama with the German Club Band at the German Pavilion. Polkas for all!

  5. If we assume an average of 150 yards/skein (and that’s probably low), then you had 680 miles of yarn in-stock at the time. That would take a while to knit up ;-).

This weekend I am going to knit mindless socks while en route to and from my boyfriend’s niece’s wedding. Fortunately it’s not 680 miles away.

  6. Your baking always looks awesome. Not too much fun stuff this weekend. Hogwarts Sock Swap Socks, and baking lasagne. mmmm…. lasagne.

  7. Congrats to the winners. That cake looks yummy. I will be getting ready for DD2’s B-day this weekend, my baby is going to be 10 on Monday and school starts Tuesday. back to School supplies are almost all ready, now to just convince the kids they are ready too.

  8. That Chocolate Truffle cake looks yummy. I could go for a piece right now. That is an awsome amount of yarn. You are so generous Sheri, to increase the amount of winners. And a big good for you to all of the happy winners and congratulations to all of you. I will be leaving tommorw for the St. Lawrence Seaway in Hammond, New York for the week. It,s a long drive 8 hours. Good knitting time. Have a great weekend. Hugs

  9. Surely that should be “serves 1”, followed by “on a big platter with a giant latte, brought to me in bed by a hunky cabana boy for Sunday breakfast”.

  10. That cake looks delicious!! No major plans for me – agree with you – just trying to stay indoors in the A/C to avoid the heat and humidity… Although, a friend just gave me the first season of “Lost” to see if it might be something I could get interested in watching like so many others have. That means more knitting time for me! And, I really need to try to do a blog update – its been a while! Have a great weekend. : )

  11. I plan to get my oil changed. That should be good for an inch or so of Cotton Panda sock.

(Actually, the car’s getting it’s oil changed. My oil’s just fine, thanks.)

  12. What a great inventory you must have. You must walk into a room and see rainbows. What a fun job! The cake looks delicious. I am absolutely going to try it.

Community yard sale this weekend and working on a sock in the pattern broadripple from the knitty site. Stay cool where you are. I am in the San Francisco area so no ac for me.

  13. I’m staying inside in the air conditioning too. 90 degrees and up: I start wilting as soon as I step outside.

And wow at that cake…it looks delicious!

Also, question: Is the Skinny Duets one of the yarns that will be saved for online only?

  14. Great contest, Sheri! Congratulations to all the lucky winners!

I’ll be spending the weekend getting ready to leave next week for Kansas City to visit kids and grandkids — YAY! And, of course, yarn shopping! KC has a lot of great yarn shops. But, I’m sure I’ll have to buy more from you when I get back!

  15. WOW…was I ever wrong?!? Never guessed you would have that many skiens. And to think, I ACTUALLY had a “scientific” method for my guess. πŸ™‚ Congrats to the winners!

  16. Don’t know if the hard part counts as fun, but I’m having a baby sometime between now and next Wednesday, LOL. Hence the rapid-fire ordering of late … πŸ™‚

    That cake looks so tasty!!!

  17. WOW…..that’s alot of yarn….my guess was way low!

I’m selling my work at an art show this weekend at a winery. I’m excited…been helping the winery with this event and it looks like we will have about 50 artists, musicians, food and of course wine! Wish me luck! I never seem to have any when you are having a contest! LOL!

  18. We are heading out for a walk in the woods followed by some wading in the river. Then I plan to knit my socks that I cast on yesterday. Embossed Leaves with Dream in Color Beach fog from the Loopy. I can see what all the fuss is about on the pattern and the yarn. Both are a joy!

We also jump everytime the phone rings….wondering if the baby we are adopting is going to be born:) Due date is later in the month but the midwife says anytime!

  19. Bummer…I WAY underestimated the number of skeins you had that day!!!!! I’d love to see The Loopy Room in person — I’m sure I’d drool or have to sit down because I’d be weak in the knees in front of all that splendor!

It hit 100 here in Richmond VA too! Down right miserable. All I have plans to do is to keep cool, and maybe venture out for some Filipino food on Saturday at a local festival.

That truffle cake sure looks decadent.

  20. Even though I didn’t win, that was a fun contest!

    I am going to Stitches Midwest this weekend πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

But I promise to come back for more sock yarn as soon as my credit card stops smoking πŸ™‚

  21. Heee! I’m going to an interview with a potential violin teacher this afternoon, and then I’m going home to California for a week!

Sadly, I fear the cost of an instrument (cause you can’t learn to play the violin without a violin) may cut into my yarn budget. πŸ™

  22. Happy Anniversary again….and congratulations to the winners. I agree, that was a fun contest. I never dreamed you’d have that much yarn!!! This weekend I hope to work on my socks in progress and go to Easton (mall in Columbus, OH) to Barnes & Noble and then home to relax. Oh yes, Easton also has a Trader Joe’s too πŸ™‚

Have a great weekend….looking forward to the new items that will be up soon.

    Kristi

  23. I don’t know how you keep all that yarn straight! But I’m so glad you do – and that you continue to find more yarn and fun stuff that we all “need.” Some day I’d like to have a drool, er, look at The Loopy Room!

We are playing golf this weekend. Fingers crossed that the temperature remains in the mid 80s!

I hear the siren song of Chocolate Truffle Cake calling to me…

  24. Congratulations winners! Sheri, next year your contest should be “how many skeins of yarn are in Sheri’s personal stash?”. Bwahahahah…

  25. That’s a LOT of yarn! WOW! I wanna play in it! hee-hee
Plans for the weekend? Thinking of how many ways I can stay cool in a heat index of 105.
    Let me count the ways:
    1. Turn on the air conditioning
    2. Try to guess how much sock yarn I have stashed in my yarn room
    3. Try to guess how many SIP on needles
    4. Drink many glasses of water, lemonade…..anything cold.
    5. Sit and knit……….SIP of course!

    Have a cool one, Sheri!

  26. wow, I wasn’t even close! I would love to see that much yarn in one room – I’d be rollin around nekkid in it hahahaha

Thanks for that cake recipe – that sure does look yummy!

  27. Having spent 20+ years buying for my stores, I should have known how seductive the stocking of a shop can be and doubled my guess. Congratulations to the winners! – and to you and your Loopy helpers.

As for this weekend…staying cool and knitting mostly. Your cake looks enticing, but will need to wait for an occasion – it looks yummy, but caloric!

    Joan

  28. Wow, that’s a lot of comments, and even more yarn (You’re doing so well with your business)! Congrats to all the winners and to the Loopy Ewe!
We are headed to a place called “Sight and Sound” theatre in Lancaster PA – We are seeing a show called “In the Beginning” – about Creation. This theatre is supposed to rival Broadway from what I hear, but we shall see……They use live animals – so my kids are excited. I’m excited because it’s a two hour trip, and maybe I’ll finally get some solid knitting time this week!

  29. Wow, I can’t believe I won something! This is my lucky day. I also got a new stove today and the delivery people brought the wrong one – a better one – all stainless! Woohoo! I’ll let you know how my next batch of chocolate-espresso (orange) shortbread comes out.

  30. Holy Sock Yarn, Batman! That’s alotta yarn…

I was only off by about 100 skeins. Knew I should have guessed higher. I have birthday parties (not mine) and other family gatherings to attend this weekend, and I will be bringing along my trusty Rococo sock in my lovely Wollmeise (have I told you lately how much I adore the wollmeise?!).
At least it won’t be 107 degrees this weekend. The projected high of 84 is going to feel down right like winter.

  31. goodness, i was off by about 6thousand skeins! goodness. what i’m doing this weekend? cracking the whip. boy #2 needs to mow my husband’s lawn, and boy #1 will be mowing my in-laws’ lawn. i’m also dragging boy #1 down to his new school for band uniform at 945. fortunately, his school is relatively close to downtown, so i’ll run to the farmer’s market afterward! snacky samples anyone?

other than that? i’m not budging from this house. they’re predicting 100 with a heat index around 110, so i’m not budging!

  32. I am soooo hungry right now…I’d love a piece of that cake! Anyway…tomorrow will involve grocery shopping and finishing (finally!) my first pair of Duets socks! I’m skipping Stitches Midwest because 1) my best friend is laid up at the moment, and it would be no fun alone, and 2) I’m saving my pennies for the next Sneak-Up!

Sunday, plans are to go out for yummy German food at the Chicago Brauhaus. Not necessarily the first thing you think of eating on a hot summer day, but that won’t stop us.

  33. hurray !! a gluten-free cake …
    Seemmm soooooo delicious…
    I’ll try the recipie…
who thought those who won’t receive skeins receive nothing ?

    thank you

  34. Congrats!! to all the winners and to you for a great first year!! I am not doing anything overly exciting this week end BECAUSE I just returned from a fun week end in TX with my son and his family. Got some great bonding time with my grandson who is 4.5 years old!! It was super! I am going to be working on my socks this weekend and recovering from a nasty cold. I swear I always get sick when I fly!!! I actually have three pairs going. One in the Fiesta Boomarang, one in Urban GypZ, and one in sKNITches. I am anxiously awaiting the Baby Boomarang!! You ALL have a SUPER weekend!!!

  35. So my very scientific guess wasn’t too far off then πŸ˜‰ Congrats to all the winners!

Weekend plans: Visit friends and their two-week-old baby and hope that my own baby takes the hint to be born already!

  36. Boy, was my guess ever low! I had no idea you had that much yarn in stock.

That Truffle Cake looks too scrumptious. I’m going to file it away for when I have company. I know my SIL woud just love it.

My weekend plans: work outside in the am and clean the house in the PM. I’m getting ready to start the heel flap on the Fall Socks…woohoo!

  37. That cake looks amazing!

I’m helping a friend host a house tour on Sunday. She lives in a very cool and very old house that she and her husband restored over the years. I’m trying to convince her to have the house on the Ghost Tour in October as well as she says she has some ghosts!

  38. Wow! I was off by 21. I guess my math skills aren’t as poor as I thought! : )

My weekend doesn’t start until Sunday, but I don’t have plans, except to sit in the back yard knitting with my feet in our newish Ashiyu. I’m almost afraid to admit how wonderfully cool the weather has been this summer in the Pacific Northwest. I truly hate hot weather!

  39. Congratulations to all the winners!! Enjoy your prizes!

Sheri that is ALOT of yarn and I truly don’t understand how you aren’t drunk from the luscious fibery goodness of it all :).

Love the chocolate truffle cake. YUM! Now we’re drunk on the chocolatey goodness of it. Double Yum!

My weekend plans consist of finishing two pairs of socks for gifts and staying in the AC. Of course, we are now having a cold snap and are down to the mid 90’s :D.

  40. Congratulations to all the winners! (My guess turned out to be ever so low. I’ll be ready next time!) This weekend will be spent packing for our annual trip to an island off the western coast of Sicily next week. I don’t anticipate getting a lot of knitting done, unfortunately, but I’m looking forward to welcoming some Loopy Ewe packages when we get back (there’s a major holiday coming up next Wednesday and the mail has slowed to a trickle since so many people are on vacation)!
