Yarn Pirate has Arrived!

ypneopol I have been surrounded by Yarn Pirate colorways for two days now, and it has been wonderful. I’ve been anxious to get the photos up on the web to show you! This yarn is tightly spun and comes in fingering weight. I suggest using a size 0 or 1 needle. I love the vibrancy of the colors in all of Georgia’s yarns (Georgia – head Pirate). DSCF2828.JPGHere is the sock (yes, that’s singular) that I knit with Viola. I really like what the stripes are doing in there. Granted, not the best cuff pattern to choose, but I was simply anxious to work that one. This beautiful sock is now in my box of “mates needed” and I WILL do the mate! yploopy My favorite colorway in this bunch is of course Loopy. Very near and dear to my heart. I think that Georgia did a great job of not making it look just Christmas-y – although it would certainly make a nice pair of Christmas socks, too. I’m knitting Loopy next. πŸ™‚ What do you think – does it look like our Loopy homepage colors to you?

I have so many WOOPs (Works Out Of Progress) right now. So what did I do? I cast on a new project. Why, oh why, oh why do I do this? I have twinless socks, I have a half done sweater, I have a log cabin quilt in progress, I have …. well, a lot more, frankly. So why did I find it necessary to cast on a completely new project? It must be a sickness. But here’s the thing – it ought to be a quick knit. DSCF2928.JPGThese fingerless gloves are so fun to knit up! My wonderful chocolate swap partner, Lynne, sent me this wool/tencel blend by Green Mountain Spinnery and this pattern that I am now in love with. (If you already have a favorite fingerless glove pattern, the pattern I’m using says that the Baby Cable Ribbing is from Barbara Walker’s A Treasury of Knitting Patterns. Just in case you want to try it on your own favorite fingerless glove instructions. It’s beautiful and very comfortably stretchy. I love it.) So Lynne – thank you again for the wonderful project, and for enabling me to ignore my WOOPs for yet another few days. Now I’m thinking of all the beautiful sock yarns in The Loopy Room that would make gorgeous fingerless gloves. Like Sweet Georgia and Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport and Schaefer Lola. (Not to mention the fun self-striping yarns. Ooooh – and the Regia Silk which is as soft and wonderful as you might imagine!) Yes, I think I will be making more fingerless gloves finish the WOOPs I have going on, making mates for all of my mate-less socks, and then maybe I’ll make more fingerless gloves.

DSCF2935.JPG Look at this fun new little notebook that I added to The Loopy Ewe this week! If you have ordered from us, you have received the “Purse Pal” version of some of these pages. I love the Purse Pals, but I also wanted more sheets to keep track of all of this information for my knitting bag. Thus – Loopy’s Knit Notes for Socks. In this little 4×5 book you will find sheets that help you keep track of: needle inventory (in both US and mm sizes), favorite sock yarn information (what size needles, what was your gauge), stats for the people you knit socks for, favorite sock patterns (what book are they in?), favorite sock/yarn websites (yes, of course I filled The Loopy Ewe in there for you!), favorite blogs and podcasts, etc. This was all information that I seemed to be collecting on post-it notes and index cards that multiplied around my computer and in my knitting bag. This was my solution. I hope it’s a good solution for you, too.

So – weigh in on your favorite Yarn Pirate Colorway, and reassure me that you’ve started projects even though you shouldn’t have because of your pile of unfinished ones……

  1. There is no way I can pick a favorite from Yarn Pirate. Just too many lovelies. Though I am going to be unconventional and give a special recognition vote to what I consider to be the best looking ‘gray’ color around… Yarn Pirate’s ‘Storm’. In the sea of purple, blue, green, reds, pinks and all those eye candies it takes a really special touch to make a good enough looking ‘gray’ to do a double take. So that’s my vote.

P.S. Don’t know if ‘gray’ is what YP would call it but that’s my take.

  2. Oh, and Loopy is fabulous too. And yes, I am casting on for things that I have no business casting on for till I get something else done. :>)

  3. Ooh! These are all so very lovely! I love all of the new yarns you’ve gotten.

I love your sock blockers! I’ve actually been looking for sock blockers – are you going to start selling them? I would love to give you the business!

  4. Oh, Sheri! Your glovies are so pretty! I’m really glad you made up the pattern..it really is a nice little cable effect, isn’t it? And, I have to say, I’m so glad you got some of Heather’s yarn. I have a few skeins from awhile back that I got in a trade with her, and I love it! Good for you!

  5. Neopolitan is on my must get list – but oh man they are all so nice! I was finally able to make it to the PO today, thank you so much for the yarn. On the starting another project, girl your such an enabler πŸ™‚

Hope you have a fun weekend with your son home.

  6. About your casting on for another project… A friend of mine recently learned the term “castaholic” — she was very happy to find a term that she felt was more positive than “a finishing failure.” I think it’s kinda cute.

  7. It was hard to vote for just one YP color, but Storm stood out for me (enough so, that I ordered one last night!). Viola was a close second, since I’m partial to purple.

I’ve only known one knitter in my life that was a one-project-at-a-time knitter, and that is my mother. I often wish I had more of her self-discipline. Right now I have four projects in the works – 2 pairs of socks, a sweater, and a baby blanket for charity. But there is this beautiful purple silk blend yarn for a scarf in my bag that is screaming to be cast on. I’m thinking that would be a good project to keep in my car for all the time I spend waiting for my kids at school, dance, etc. It may find its way there today in time to go to the dentist’s office!

  8. My package of ATH arrived last night. So pretty. My problem is I can buy yarn so much faster than I can knit it. DH buys cans of sardines “in case of an earthquake”. I guess I buy yarn in case of as sheep shortage!

And at The Loopy Ewe, you gotta be quick or get left out. Which is what happened with YP Storm. Loved that color but missed it.
