We’re having a great time seeing all of the beautiful yarn and fabric that you’ve been picking out for your Camp Loopy projects this past week! And I have seen so many pattern ideas that you all are using that I want to add to my list. One of my favorite parts of Camp! I hope you’re joining us on this virtual adventure this summer.
As I was reading through some of the Camp threads on our Ravelry group this morning, someone mentioned that their 8 year old wanted to participate, but that a 400 yard project in June was a lot for a kid. That led me to think – why not Camp Loopy – the Kids Version? Easy enough to put together, and so many benefits to involving kids this summer:
- We LOVE seeing kids pick up knitting and sewing at an early age. It gives them a creative outlet their whole life, and also gives them a great way to relieve stress.
- We love seeing kids and parents or grandparents working on projects alongside each other. Great bonding time. 🙂
- We all remember the summers of our youth where we were bored with “NOTHING TO DO!”. And how many times have you had your kids or grandkids tell you that?
That’s where Loopy Kids Camp comes in. (Remember this is a virtual camp – no travel involved!) It works like this:
Dinosaurs come with all different textures – feathers, scales, spots and more. Pick a project that has texture (through different stitches) OR pick a yarn that reminds you of these textures (speckles, gradients, sparkles, etc).
Dates: Knit or crocheted between 6/1 and 6/30, with photo of the completed project uploaded by 7/1.
Yardage Requirement: 200 or more yards in one project
Points for completing June Project: 50
Pick a project that has texture (through quilting or technique) OR pick fabrics that remind you of these textures (spots, waves, metallics, etc.)

Yardage Requirement: 1 yard or more used in one project
Points for completing the June Project: 50
We are offering a 15% discount during Camp Store Week. We have also extended Camp Store Week until Sunday, May 21, since we are a few days later in announcing Kids Camp. (Adults can also have the extended discount time this month.) The discount for Project One is valid for one project’s worth of yarn/fabric between now and 5/21.
If you are ordering for your kids or grandkids on your account, you must leave us an order note letting us know which yarn/fabric they are using, and that it’s for Kids Camp. If they prefer to have their own Loopy account, you can also leave us an order note if you’d like us to combine their order with yours to save on shipping.
To earn the points, you must be using yarn or fabric purchased from The Loopy Ewe during Camp Store Week or later for each project, and your photos of the completed project must be uploaded to the Camp gallery by the due date for each project. Points will be awarded to the account that purchased the materials. (So if you’re using your account to order for your kids or grandkids, the purchase and completion points will also go to your account. We’ll leave it up to you to keep track of how many points are theirs, so they can pick a prize in our Loopy Rewards Store at the end of the summer!)
Watch for upcoming photo challenges and contests that you and your kids and grandkids can participate in for Camp as well. We’ll announce the first one on the blog next week.
We look forward to seeing what these talented young-dinosaurs do with their projects this summer, and we hope they have a lot of fun participating in Camp Loopy!
